Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe iPhone 18 Pro’s headline changes over the iPhone 16 Pro are a variable-aperture 48MP main camera, newer A20 Pro chip with a vapor chamber, Apple’s stated battery-life estimate, and iOS 27 with Siri AI features announced in beta. The 16 Pro already has 48MP main and Ultra Wide cameras, a 5x telephoto camera, and 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision recording. The upgrade is therefore about new controls and a newer platform—not a simple jump from basic cameras to capable ones.

How does the camera change?
Variable aperture is the main new control
The 18 Pro adds adjustable aperture to its 48MP Fusion Main camera. Apple lists ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, and ƒ/4.0 settings, which let the camera adjust for lighting and depth of field. That gives photographers a new way to influence how much of a scene appears in focus; it is a more meaningful distinction than comparing megapixel counts, since both phones have a 48MP main camera.

Telephoto numbers describe different things
Apple lists the 18 Pro with a 4x telephoto camera, 8x optical-quality zoom in, and a 16x optical-quality zoom range. For the 16 Pro, Apple lists 5x optical zoom in and a 10x optical zoom range. “Optical-quality” zoom and optical zoom are not interchangeable labels, so these figures should not be collapsed into a simple claim that one phone has universally better zoom. The better fit depends on the framing and focal length you use most.
The 16 Pro also launched with 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision recording, so that video format did not debut with the 18 Pro. See Apple’s 2024 iPhone 16 Pro announcement for that capability.

What do A20 Pro and the vapor chamber mean?
The 18 Pro uses Apple’s A20 Pro, while the 16 Pro launched with A18 Pro. Apple describes the A20 Pro as having a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and Dual 16-core Neural Engine, paired with a next-generation vapor chamber. That establishes a newer processor and a changed thermal design, but the cited Apple material does not provide a direct 18 Pro versus 16 Pro benchmark.
Apple’s stated claim of up to 40 percent better sustained performance uses iPhone 17 Pro as the comparison—not iPhone 16 Pro. It should not be read as a measured 40 percent gain over the 16 Pro.

What do Apple’s battery and software claims establish?
Battery
Apple specifies up to 36 hours of video playback for iPhone 18 Pro. This is Apple’s estimate, not an independent head-to-head runtime result, and the cited material does not establish a directly comparable 16 Pro figure. It therefore does not support a quantified claim about how much longer the 18 Pro lasts than the 16 Pro in everyday use.
iOS and Siri AI
The 18 Pro was announced with iOS 27 and Siri AI features in beta; the 16 Pro launched with iOS 18. The announcement alone does not establish that every iOS 27 feature is exclusive to the 18 Pro. Availability of AI features may also depend on language and region, so check Apple’s current compatibility and availability information for the specific feature you want.

Should you choose the iPhone 18 Pro or keep the 16 Pro?
Consider the 18 Pro if you value its new features
- You want variable-aperture control on the main camera.
- You want the current-generation A20 Pro platform and its redesigned cooling approach.
- You are interested in the Siri AI beta features and have confirmed their availability for your language and region.
The 16 Pro remains a capable option
If your 16 Pro already meets your needs, its 48MP main and Ultra Wide cameras, 5x telephoto, and 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision recording remain substantial capabilities. The feature differences alone do not establish that every 16 Pro owner should upgrade.

Check the actual price before deciding
Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $1,199 for the 18 Pro in 2026, with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB configurations. That is a launch-announcement price, not a current quote or a direct price comparison with the 16 Pro. The amount you would pay depends on region, configuration, availability, trade-in eligibility, and carrier offers; compare current local prices and terms before buying.
