AT&T carrier bundle version 72.0.3 is reportedly rolling out to iPhone 18 Pro Max devices running the iOS 27.2 beta. The report says those phones had been on version 72.0.2; it does not include an Apple or AT&T release note explaining what changed or confirm that the update fixes a cellular outage.
What the AT&T update report says
9to5Mac reported on October 8, 2026, that iPhone 18 Pro Max users on the iOS 27.2 beta were receiving AT&T carrier bundle 72.0.3. The sighting was attributed to Aaron Perris on X. The report says the beta devices had previously shown version 72.0.2. No direct Apple or AT&T release note for this specific beta bundle is available in the cited coverage, so the rollout should be treated as reported rather than independently confirmed. 9to5Mac’s report

How the reported versions differ by iOS release
| iOS context | AT&T carrier bundle reported | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| iOS 27.2 beta on iPhone 18 Pro Max | 72.0.3, previously 72.0.2 | 9to5Mac reported the rollout on October 8, 2026; no specific settings changes are stated. |
| iOS 27.0 | 72.1 | 9to5Mac said these users received version 72.1 the previous week; the report does not explain the version difference. |
These are reports about separate software contexts, not options users can choose between. The version numbers alone do not establish which bundle is newer in function, more effective, or available to all AT&T customers.
How to check your iPhone’s carrier settings
Apple says carrier settings updates can improve network connectivity and performance, and may add support for features such as 5G or Wi-Fi Calling. To check for an update and see the installed carrier version:

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi or cellular service.
- Open Settings > General > About.
- If an update prompt appears, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Look next to Carrier to see the installed carrier settings version.
If no prompt appears, this does not by itself confirm that a particular bundle is available for your phone. Apple advises contacting your carrier to verify whether the latest carrier settings are installed. Apple’s carrier settings instructions
Does bundle 72.0.3 fix the iPhone 18 Pro Max AT&T outage?
That has not been established. The 9to5Mac report also describes a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T who lost cellular service, including calls, and saw “SOS” in the status bar. It says Apple told the outlet that iOS 27.0.1 and a carrier settings update were intended to prevent further cases, while devices that had already lost service still required hardware replacement. The report does not identify the technical cause or show that bundle 72.0.3 restores service to an affected phone.

What SOS means and what to try
Apple says “SOS” or “SOS only” means the iPhone is not connected to its subscribed cellular network. Emergency calls through other carriers may still be possible; Apple identifies this support for Australia, Canada, and the United States. Apple’s SOS and No Service guidance
