The fairest way to assess those expectations is to compare them with Apple’s eventual announcement. Apple’s 9 September press release is the primary source for the product details it confirmed. Which iPhone 17 expectations did Apple confirm?
Apple’s announcement confirmed the following specifications for the base iPhone 17. These are Apple-published product claims, not independent test results.

Apple also described faster charging, but the announcement does not make the optional power adapter a required purchase. It named an optional 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max, MagSafe charging accessories, and model-specific MagSafe cases.
When did iPhone 17 go on sale, and what was its launch price?
Apple announced iPhone 17 on 9 September 2025. Pre-orders opened on 12 September, and initial availability began on 19 September. These are past launch dates, not a schedule for a future release.

Apple’s UK launch announcement listed a starting price of £799. That is the UK launch price stated in 2025; it should not be treated as a current price, a price for every storage option, or a worldwide price. Current pricing and availability may differ by region and seller.

For a present-day purchase, the old rumor coverage is less useful than checking the exact offer available to you. Compare the model and storage configuration, regional price, stock, carrier terms, and any trade-in eligibility directly with the seller or carrier. Those details can change or vary by location, and Apple’s launch announcement is not a live offer or stock listing.

If you are considering accessories, Apple announced iPhone 17-specific MagSafe cases and charging products. They are optional; confirm compatibility and current availability before buying rather than assuming a particular accessory or deal is included with the phone.

The announcement establishes what Apple said the base iPhone 17 includes. It does not independently verify performance, battery life, scratch resistance, or whether a pre-launch report obtained information from a particular source. Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, called it “a big upgrade” and described the display, battery, chip, cameras, and front camera as major benefits. That statement is Apple marketing, not an independent assessment.
