Short answer: the HP OmniBook 5 configuration documented for the UK market (model BH3G3EA#ABU) has the right basic specification for office work, study, browsing and media: an AMD Ryzen 5 8540U, 16 GB of onboard LPDDR5 memory and a 512 GB SSD. HP also lists a 59 Wh battery, a 65 W USB-C charger and fast charging to about 50% in 30 minutes. However, there is no independently verified test of this exact AMD 16-inch machine in the available evidence, so its real battery runtime, noise, thermals, display quality and gaming performance remain unmeasured. Treat the advertised £729 sale price as a snapshot rather than a permanent value, because the HP listing was out of stock when checked.
What exactly is the HP OmniBook 5 Ryzen review unit?
The model that can be identified precisely is HP BH3G3EA#ABU, a 16-inch OmniBook 5 sold on HP’s UK site. It pairs an AMD Ryzen 5 8540U processor with 16 GB of onboard LPDDR5 memory and a 512 GB solid-state drive. Those details matter because “OmniBook 5” is a family name rather than one fixed specification. Screen sizes, processors, memory arrangements and regional configurations vary under the same branding.

This article therefore evaluates the documented AMD configuration and separates confirmed specifications from questions that an independent hands-on review would need to answer. Do not assume that a review of another OmniBook 5 represents this machine.
Which OmniBook 5 versions are easy to confuse?
| Machine | Processor | Screen size | What the available review evidence means |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP BH3G3EA#ABU | AMD Ryzen 5 8540U | 16 inches | HP specification listing; no independent benchmark or battery test verified for this exact SKU |
| Notebookcheck 16-af1037nr | Intel Core Ultra 7 255U | 16 inches | A separate Intel configuration reviewed on 18 December 2025; its measurements do not apply to the AMD model |
| TechRadar 14-inch variants | Snapdragon X and X Plus | 14 inches | A different size and processor platform; reported battery, display and gaming results cannot be transferred to the AMD machine |
The processor and chassis size are not minor details. They can change battery behavior, application compatibility, graphics performance, keyboard layout and even the panel fitted at the factory. Always match the complete model number before using a review as buying evidence.

What are the confirmed specifications and HP’s claims?
HP’s UK product page is the primary source for the AMD configuration. The following are manufacturer specifications or claims, not independent measurements.
| Specification | HP BH3G3EA#ABU |
|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 8540U |
| Display size | 16 inches |
| Memory | 16 GB onboard LPDDR5 |
| Storage | 512 GB SSD |
| Battery capacity | 59 Wh |
| Advertised video playback | Up to 16 hours 45 minutes, according to HP |
| Fast charging | Approximately 50% in 30 minutes, according to HP |
| Power adapter | 65 W USB-C |
| Price observed | £729 sale price on HP UK when accessed; the listing showed out of stock |
HP does not present the 16-hour-45-minute figure as a universal workday guarantee. Video playback is a relatively controlled workload, and brightness, wireless activity, software, battery health and power settings all affect endurance. The same qualification applies to the approximately 30-minute fast-charge statement: the result depends on the supplied adapter and the conditions HP used.
Is the Ryzen 5 8540U model good for productivity and study?
On paper, yes. Sixteen gigabytes of memory and a 512 GB SSD are a sensible starting point for documents, web research, video calls, coding classes, spreadsheets and streaming. The configuration should also leave more breathing room than an entry-level machine with 8 GB of memory when many browser tabs and communication apps are open. That is a specification-based assessment, not a benchmark result for this laptop.
Everyday tasks it is designed to cover
- Office suites, PDFs, email and browser-based services.
- University or school work involving simultaneous research tabs, note-taking and video meetings.
- Media playback and general home use.
- Light photo edits and short, non-professional creative projects, provided the particular application supports the installed platform and the project does not demand workstation-class graphics.
The SSD should make application launches and file access feel considerably more responsive than a hard-drive-based system, but the available data contains no measured boot or application timings. Likewise, there is no independent result establishing sustained performance under long exports, virtual machines or large code builds.
What does “onboard” memory mean for ownership?
HP identifies the 16 GB as onboard LPDDR5. That wording indicates memory integrated into the system rather than a conventional removable module, so buyers should treat the advertised capacity as the configuration they will live with. Before ordering, check HP’s service documentation for the exact product number if future memory expansion is important; the listing alone does not establish an upgrade path.
How long will the battery last away from a socket?
The only runtime figure verified for BH3G3EA#ABU is HP’s claim of up to 16 hours and 45 minutes of video playback from its 59 Wh battery. No independent AMD-specific runtime test was verified, so it would be misleading to convert that figure into a guaranteed number of hours for mixed office work.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor planning purposes, consider the advertised result a best-case manufacturer scenario. A day of document editing, video meetings, high screen brightness, background synchronization and frequent browser use can draw power at a different rate from locally played video. If reliable all-day operation is essential, wait for a test of the exact AMD SKU or buy from a seller with a practical return policy.
What does the fast-charge claim mean in practice?
HP says the laptop can reach approximately 50% charge in 30 minutes with its fast-charge feature and lists a 65 W USB-C adapter. “Approximately” is important: charging speed can taper as the battery fills, and the result can change if the computer is being used heavily, if a different charger is connected or if battery-protection settings are enabled. The USB-C adapter is a useful travel detail, but confirm whether the retail box in your region contains the same adapter before relying on it.
Can this OmniBook 5 handle very light gaming?
There is not enough evidence to promise a frame rate, game resolution or graphics preset for the Ryzen 5 8540U configuration. The available gaming observations in the available data belong to a 14-inch Snapdragon review, while the detailed 16-inch Notebookcheck measurements belong to an Intel machine. Neither is a valid substitute for AMD testing.
It is reasonable to approach the laptop as an everyday computer that may suit undemanding games, older releases and browser titles, but that is a buying strategy rather than a measured result. Before purchasing for a particular game:
- Check the game developer’s minimum and recommended requirements against the Ryzen-based system.
- Look for reports from the exact Ryzen 5 8540U configuration, not simply “OmniBook 5” or another processor family.
- Confirm that the game’s anti-cheat software and launcher support the installed operating-system and processor platform.
- Plan to use modest resolution and quality settings if smooth play matters more than visual detail.
- Keep expectations separate from demanding modern 3D games, which require independent graphics testing that is absent here.
Thermal behavior is another unknown. A thin 16-inch chassis can behave differently during a short game and a long session, and no noise, surface-temperature or sustained-performance measurements for BH3G3EA#ABU were verified.
Is a 16-inch OmniBook 5 portable enough?
A 16-inch screen gives more room for side-by-side documents, timelines and spreadsheets than a 14-inch model, which can be valuable for study and home-office work. The trade-off is physical size: a larger display generally occupies more space in a backpack, on a train tray or on a small desk. The available data does not provide the AMD unit’s weight, thickness or dimensions, so portability cannot be rated precisely.
Think about your routine rather than assuming that “laptop” means equally mobile in every size. If the computer mostly moves between rooms, classrooms and a car, the larger panel may be a worthwhile convenience. If it must be carried daily with books or used on cramped tables, locate the exact weight and dimensions on the regional listing before committing.

What are the display, keyboard and port options?
The confirmed evidence establishes a 16-inch screen but does not establish its resolution, refresh rate, brightness, color coverage, touch support or panel technology. Those characteristics can materially change the experience of reading, creative work and outdoor use. Do not infer display quality from the OmniBook 5 name or from a review of a different size.

The same caution applies to ports and input hardware. Before buying, open the detailed specification for BH3G3EA#ABU and verify the number and type of USB ports, video output, audio connection, wireless standard, keyboard layout and webcam features. Retail listings sometimes combine photographs or bullet points from several configurations; the model number is the reliable anchor.

Those reviews are useful for understanding that the family has multiple designs, but they cannot supply missing AMD measurements.

Notebookcheck’s review, dated 18 December 2025, describes its Intel unit as a budget laptop aimed at student and home multimedia use. That positioning may resemble the intended audience, but the CPU and measurements are different. TechRadar’s October 2025 article evaluates Snapdragon configurations in a smaller chassis, so its battery, display and gaming observations should not be quoted as AMD evidence.
Is the £729 sale price good value?
HP’s UK page showed £729 for BH3G3EA#ABU when accessed, alongside an out-of-stock status. Because both price and availability can change, the figure is a dated buying reference rather than a standing recommendation.

The value case weakens if the panel is dim or low-resolution, if the machine is too heavy for your routine, or if you need independently verified gaming and endurance results before spending. Compare the exact CPU, memory, storage, screen specification, keyboard region and warranty—not just the OmniBook 5 name—against any alternative you are considering.
What should you check before ordering?
- Match the SKU: confirm BH3G3EA#ABU or the exact model printed on the seller’s page. A different suffix may indicate a different processor, panel or keyboard.
- Confirm the display: record resolution, brightness, refresh rate, finish and touch status from the same listing.
- Verify memory and storage: make sure the listing says 16 GB onboard LPDDR5 and 512 GB SSD if that is the configuration you want.
- Check regional details: verify keyboard layout, operating-system language, warranty coverage and charger plug for your country.
- Inspect connectivity: confirm the USB, display-output, networking and audio ports you need rather than relying on a stock photograph.
- Check live stock and price: the HP UK page was out of stock at the time of checking, and sale pricing is not permanent.
- Set a gaming threshold: if a specific game is important, require an AMD-specific test or a clear return option before purchase.
- Look for independent measurements: seek tests of this processor and screen combination for battery, fan noise, temperatures and sustained performance.
Who should buy this Ryzen 5 OmniBook 5?
This configuration is a sensible candidate for students, home users and office workers who value a large workspace and need mainstream applications rather than workstation performance. The documented memory and storage capacities avoid the most restrictive entry-level configurations, and HP’s fast-charge claim may suit people who regularly top up between classes or meetings.
It is a poor choice for anyone who needs guaranteed all-day mixed-work runtime, a known high-quality display, extensive upgradeability, professional 3D performance or independently verified thermals before purchase. Those buyers should wait for exact-SKU testing or choose a machine whose required characteristics are explicitly measured and documented.
What is the final verdict on the HP OmniBook 5 Ryzen 5 8540U?
The AMD Ryzen 5 8540U OmniBook 5 looks like a capable everyday specification, not a proven performance champion. HP’s 16 GB onboard memory, 512 GB SSD, 59 Wh battery and USB-C charging setup address the practical basics, while the 16-inch format favors a roomy workspace. The decisive caveat is evidence: battery life, responsiveness under sustained loads, gaming, display quality, acoustics, weight and port selection have not been independently established for BH3G3EA#ABU. Buy it only after matching the full regional SKU and confirming the current price, stock, panel and warranty.

Does the HP UK listing guarantee a UK keyboard and local warranty?
No. A UK store page is a useful regional reference, but keyboard language, warranty duration and service coverage should be confirmed in the checkout documentation for the exact seller and destination. Cross-border stock can carry a different keyboard or support policy even when the model name looks identical.
Can I replace the 16 GB memory later?
HP describes the memory as onboard LPDDR5, so you should not assume that a removable upgrade is available. Check the service manual or ask HP support for BH3G3EA#ABU before buying if you expect to need more memory.
How can I tell whether a retailer is selling the same laptop?
Compare the complete product number, processor, screen size, memory, SSD capacity, keyboard region and included charger. Product photos and the words “OmniBook 5” alone are not sufficient because the family contains Intel, AMD and Snapdragon versions in different sizes.
Should I wait for an AMD-specific review before buying?
If battery endurance, fan noise, gaming or display quality is central to your decision, waiting for measurements of the exact 16-inch Ryzen configuration reduces uncertainty. If your needs are limited to ordinary productivity and the seller offers a straightforward return policy, the confirmed specification may be enough to make a cautious purchase.
