Do not trust or reject a game-wiki page because it looks AI-written. Verify the individual gameplay claim you intend to use: record the game, edition, platform and build; open the original citation; inspect the page’s revision history; and compare the statement with the current game or the developer’s release notes. If those checks do not establish the claim for your exact build, label it unconfirmed rather than treating it as fact.
This matters because a polished paragraph can preserve an old patch note, confuse editions, or repeat an error from another wiki. The workflow below lets you check an item stat, recipe, unlock condition, location, mechanic or drop-rate claim without needing to prove who wrote the page.

Why AI authorship is the wrong first question
Authorship is a weak proxy for gameplay accuracy. A human editor can copy an obsolete value, while an AI-assisted draft can contain a correctly transcribed developer note. The useful question is whether the specific sentence is supported for the version you are playing.
AI-content detectors are not a reliable verdict on authorship. Wikipedia’s guidance warns that detectors have non-trivial error rates and should not be used as the sole basis for a conclusion (Wikipedia’s signs-of-AI-writing guidance). A 2024 study estimated that 4.36% of 2,909 newly created English Wikipedia articles sampled from August 2024 contained significant AI-generated content, but that estimate depends on detector calibration and a particular Wikipedia sample. It is not an accuracy rate for game wikis or a current 2026 measurement (Brooks, Eggert and Peskoff, ACL 2024).

Some communities set rules about AI contributions. The wiki.gg support policy says, “Original AI-generated content is not permitted on wiki.gg” (wiki.gg AI policy). The Minecraft Wiki has its own policy as well. Such rules tell you how a site governs contributions; they do not prove that every existing page is correct. Evidence and version matching still decide whether a claim is usable.
What should I capture before checking a claim?
Start with one actionable statement, not an entire page. Copy the exact sentence, table row or formula and save the page title, page URL and the date you read it. Then write down the conditions that could change the answer:
- Game title and edition, such as Java or Bedrock where applicable.
- Platform and installed version or patch number.
- Whether the game is a beta, snapshot, preview, test realm or normal release.
- Mods, server plugins, data packs, experimental toggles or custom settings.
- Mode, difficulty, world-generation settings or other conditions named by the wiki.
This record prevents a valid statement from one environment being misapplied to another. Release notes are often edition-specific. For example, Mojang published Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 notes on September 15, 2026, while Bedrock Edition 26.60 notes were posted October 27, 2026. A Bedrock feature marked experimental cannot automatically be treated as a released Java feature.
How do I audit the wiki’s citation?
Open the linked source itself, not merely the reference label. A citation supports the claim only when the original material states the same number, condition or instruction for the same release.
- Find the exact evidence. Search the source for the item name, value, mechanic or phrase. A general announcement that an item was changed does not establish its current drop rate.
- Check scope. Confirm edition, platform, patch, mode and experimental status. A guide written before a balance update may still be useful historically but not for your current build.
- Check timing. Compare the source date with later developer notes. If a patch changed the mechanic after the citation, the wiki needs a newer source or an explicit historical qualifier.
- Trace the chain. If the reference points to another community page, follow that page to its evidence. Two pages repeating one unsourced sentence are not independent corroboration.
Wikipedia’s verifiability guidance distinguishes a citation that directly supports a statement from a circular or indirect source. Apply the same test to game wikis: a link is a lead, not proof.
How can revision history reveal where a claim came from?
On a MediaWiki site, choose View history and locate the revision that introduced the sentence or table row. Select two revisions and use the comparison control to inspect the precise diff; open an older version by its date when necessary. The MediaWiki history guide documents these controls.

Look for the edit summary, contributor, date, linked reference and later corrections. A change that adds a number without a source deserves more scrutiny than one that quotes a dated developer note. Read the surrounding diff, because a value may be correct only under a condition that another edit removed. Check whether a later editor reverted, qualified or replaced the statement.
History establishes provenance, not truth. A page with hundreds of edits can still carry one stale row, and a recent edit can be either a careful correction or an unsupported guess. Use history to identify what must be checked and to find the earliest evidence, never as an automatic trust score.
How do I match a wiki claim to the build I actually use?
Use the game’s displayed version and the developer’s changelog as the matching key. Do not merge editions or release channels simply because their names look similar.
For each claim, make a small comparison record:
| Field | Wiki statement | Evidence to match |
|---|---|---|
| Edition/platform | What the page names | Developer notes and your installed client |
| Version | Revision date or stated patch | Exact release number and later hotfixes |
| Status | Released, preview, snapshot or experimental | Release-channel label in official notes |
| Conditions | Mode, biome, difficulty, tool or configuration | In-game description or reproducible procedure |
The Minecraft examples illustrate why this matters: Java 26.3 and Bedrock 26.60 are separate releases, and Bedrock notes can identify upcoming-drop material as experimental. If the wiki says “the feature exists” without naming that status, rewrite your working conclusion as “available only in Bedrock 26.60 experimental,” or whatever the matching notes actually establish.

What is the strongest way to verify a gameplay fact?
Choose the evidence source that can observe the fact most directly. The Games Wiki describes its own research method by saying, “The strongest source for any claim about a game is the game itself” (The Games Wiki research methodology). That is a statement of its published standard, not a certification of every page.
- Visible mechanics: Read the current in-game UI, tooltip, recipe screen or quest text on the matching build. Capture the wording and any conditions.
- Patch-dependent behavior: Consult the developer’s release notes, hotfix notices and official technical documentation. Prefer a note that names the exact value or behavior over a summary that merely says “balance updated.”
- Reproducible actions: Follow the described steps on the same edition and build when the mechanic is observable. Keep conditions constant and record what the game reports; do not generalize a result from a modded or experimental environment.
- Hidden formulas and rates: Look for a documented formula, data file or a transparent method that explains sample size and conditions. If neither the developer nor a reproducible source establishes the number, leave it unconfirmed.
This approach does not require claiming that a site or its editors personally tested anything. It simply gives you a hierarchy: direct game evidence and official notes first, then well-documented independent work, with unsourced repetition last.

How should I classify the result?
Use a narrow status that describes what your evidence establishes for your recorded build. Four labels cover most cases:
| Status | Use it when | What to write |
|---|---|---|
| Supported for this build | The source and conditions match, and no newer evidence conflicts. | “Supported in [edition] [version] under [conditions].” |
| Contradicted for this build | Current game text or official notes give a different value or behavior. | Quote the conflicting value and identify its release. |
| Outdated | The wiki statement was accurate for an earlier release but changed later. | Give the old and current versions rather than deleting the history. |
| Unconfirmed | The available evidence does not directly establish the claim. | State what is missing: source, build match, method or sample. |
“Unconfirmed” is a useful conclusion, not a failure. It prevents a plausible number from becoming advice that players repeat as fact. If the page makes a stronger claim than its evidence allows, quote the precise sentence and explain the narrower conclusion.
How do I check drop rates and other hidden numbers?
Drop rates, encounter probabilities and damage formulas need more than a citation to a guide. Ask whether the number comes from game data, an official statement, a sufficiently described sample or an inference.
- Identify the object being measured: chance per roll, chance per enemy, chance per chest, or chance after a guaranteed pity rule.
- Check whether the sample includes modifiers such as difficulty, luck effects, looting bonuses, world seed or server settings.
- Look for the denominator and method. “It seems rare” is an observation, not a rate.
- Separate a datamined value from a live value; developers can change server-side tables without changing the wiki’s wording.
- Record uncertainty when the evidence cannot distinguish close possibilities. Do not convert a rough estimate into a precise percentage.
If the only support is another wiki that copied the same percentage, classify the rate as unconfirmed until an original source or reproducible methodology appears. A page may still be a useful lead, but it should not be the sole basis for spending resources or planning a build.
What should I do when a wiki says a feature exists but I cannot find it?
First rule out a scope mismatch, then check the feature’s release status. Confirm that you are on the named edition and version, that any experimental toggle is enabled, and that the feature is not limited to a preview, snapshot, server configuration or mod.
Next, search the developer’s changelog for the feature name and its introduction or removal. Compare the wiki revision with that date. A page may have retained a planned feature after it was postponed, renamed or restricted. If official notes describe it as experimental, the accurate wording should preserve that limitation rather than saying simply that the feature is available.

Finally, document the negative result carefully: client version, edition, settings, the in-game location searched and the sources consulted. “Not found in my build under these conditions” is stronger and more honest than claiming the feature never exists anywhere.
How do AI policies and page quality fit into the decision?
Treat an AI policy as one governance signal, not a substitute for checking facts. A prohibition on original AI-generated text may reduce one risk, while allowing machine-assisted translation, summaries or formatting may introduce another. Conversely, a site with no stated policy can still contain carefully sourced work.
Compare candidate pages on four practical axes:
- Directness: Does the evidence come from the game or developer, or from an unsourced retelling?
- Build match: Are edition, patch and experimental status explicit?
- Traceability: Can you open the original citation and the revision diff?
- Independence: Is the source original evidence, or mirrored text circulating among several pages?
These are decision axes, not a numerical rating system. A page can score well on traceability yet be outdated; another can have a current date but no direct evidence. Keep the dimensions separate so one attractive feature does not hide a serious mismatch.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do I report a mistake without creating another one?
Preserve the evidence before editing. Save the exact wiki URL, revision identifier or date, your captured claim, the build information and the source that conflicts with it. Then use the site’s edit, discussion or correction process, following its local rules.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Describe the smallest verifiable correction: quote the old sentence, provide the matching release note or in-game wording, state the affected edition and propose replacement text. If the evidence is incomplete, request a citation or mark the row as unconfirmed rather than inserting your own estimate. The Games Wiki says readers can submit corrections on its site, but procedures differ elsewhere, so do not assume every wiki uses the same form.
After an edit, watch the next revision. A correction can be reverted, narrowed to another platform or superseded by a hotfix. Keep your local record so you can recheck the claim when the game updates.

Common failure modes and their fixes
| Failure | Why it misleads | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Judging by prose that “sounds like AI” | Style does not establish a stat’s truth. | Check the claim, source and build. |
| Trusting a citation label | The linked page may not contain the stated number. | Open the original and verify direct support. |
| Counting repeated wikis as agreement | They may all copy one unsourced error. | Trace each chain to independent evidence. |
| Using the newest edit as proof | Recency can mean an unsupported change. | Read the diff, summary and citation. |
| Mixing editions or previews | Identical names can hide different mechanics. | Record edition, channel and version. |
| Turning a sample into a guaranteed rate | Small or biased samples omit modifiers and variance. | Require method and denominator; otherwise say unconfirmed. |
| Deleting an old value without context | Readers may need to understand legacy saves or guides. | Label the old value by version and show the current one. |
A printable checklist for every wiki claim
- Copy the exact claim, page URL and reading date.
- Record game, edition, platform, build, mode and experimental settings.
- Open the original citation and verify the exact number or instruction.
- Check whether a later developer note changed it.
- Use View history and a revision diff to find when and why it entered the page.
- Seek direct in-game wording, official notes or a reproducible method.
- Separate original evidence from mirrored community text.
- Classify the result as supported, contradicted, outdated or unconfirmed.
- Report a precise correction with evidence and conditions.
- Recheck after patches, hotfixes or changes to experimental status.
The practical standard is simple: trust a claim only to the extent that its evidence matches your build. A polished page, an AI policy, a long edit history or many copied links can guide your investigation, but none replaces direct, version-specific support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an AI detector prove that a game-wiki page was written by AI?
No. Detectors can produce false positives and false negatives, and a correct or incorrect gameplay statement can come from either human or AI-assisted writing. Use detector output, if at all, as a prompt to inspect sources—not as evidence about the game mechanic.
What should I save when a wiki page keeps changing?
Save the page URL together with the revision date or permanent revision link, the quoted claim and the release number you checked. A dated revision lets you distinguish a later correction from the wording that originally influenced your decision.
How often should I recheck an item stat?
Recheck after any patch, hotfix, edition update, server-side balance change or change from experimental to released status. For a long-running game, also check the developer’s changelog before relying on a stat copied into a new guide.
Is a datamined value trustworthy if the wiki includes the game files?
It may describe a value present in files, not necessarily the value used by the live game. Confirm whether the data belongs to your build and whether the mechanic is enabled; label it as a file value or unconfirmed when live behavior is not established.
