To avoid missing dialogue in Control Resonant, turn on subtitles under Options → Interface, choose Large text and a background if needed, then make speech more prominent under Options → Audio. Raise Speech Volume before touching Master Volume; if effects or music still cover voices, lower those channels. Use Night Mode for a less extreme loudness range, Mono Audio when one ear or one stereo channel is unreliable, and the Hyperacusis Filter when high frequencies are uncomfortable.
Subtitles are a backup rather than a transcript of every sound: the PlayStation accessibility listing says basic subtitles cover the main story and main characters only. Ambient conversations, radio lines, grunts and other incidental cues may therefore remain unc captioned. The steps below combine readable text, a neutral audio baseline and hardware checks so you can tell whether a problem is in the game, the operating system or the listening device.

How do I turn on subtitles in Control Resonant?
Open the pause menu and go to Options → Interface. Enable Subtitles, then adjust the related display controls before resuming play.
- Set Subtitles to on.
- Enable Subtitle Speaker Names if identifying the speaker helps you follow a busy scene.
- Choose a Subtitle Background when text blends into bright environments or visual effects.
- Set Subtitle Size to Large if you sit far from the screen, play on a small display or have reduced visual acuity. The available sizes are Small, Normal and Large.
Remedy lists these controls in the game’s interface options. The PlayStation accessibility listing separately identifies Subtitles (Basic) and Large Subtitles, so the exact presentation can vary slightly by platform or accessibility menu while the purpose is the same: make primary dialogue readable without changing the mix.

Which subtitle choices work best at different distances?
| Situation | Recommended choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Close monitor, good contrast | Normal size; background optional | Keeps more of the picture unobstructed while retaining readable text. |
| Television across the room | Large size and a background | Increases character size and separates letters from the scene. |
| Several characters speaking | Speaker Names on | Associates each line with its speaker when faces or camera cuts are unclear. |
| Reading is difficult even with larger text | Large size, strong background, and brighter room lighting | Improves contrast without requiring a louder soundtrack. |
Subtitles can stay enabled while you diagnose an audio fault. They do not repair a missing channel, but they let you continue the story while you test the output path.
Which audio setting makes dialogue louder?
In Options → Audio, raise Speech Volume first. If voices are audible but are being covered by impacts, environmental effects or music, lower Effects Volume and Music Volume instead of raising every channel.
| Control | What changing it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Speech Volume | Changes the level of spoken dialogue. | Voices are consistently too quiet while other sounds are balanced. |
| Effects Volume | Reduces competing sounds such as impacts and environmental effects when lowered. | Action scenes mask otherwise audible speech. |
| Music Volume | Reduces the musical bed when lowered. | Music is the main source of masking during conversations. |
| Master Volume | Raises or lowers the overall game output. | The entire game is too quiet after individual channels are balanced. |
| Controller Speaker Volume | Adjusts sound routed to the controller speaker on systems that support it. | A cue is being sent to the controller rather than the television or headset. |
Make one change at a time and replay the same type of conversation. Raising Speech Volume and Master Volume together can make explosions uncomfortably loud without improving the speech-to-effects balance. A better sequence is to set a comfortable overall level, increase speech modestly, then trim the channel that is masking it.
What if voices sound muffled rather than simply quiet?
Return any custom Bass and Treble adjustments to 0 while testing. Excess bass can make a mix feel congested, while aggressive treble can make consonants harsh without making the words clearer. Once dialogue is intelligible at the neutral setting, make small changes for your room or headphones rather than using a large boost.
Should I use Mono Audio?
Use Mono Audio when one ear is weaker, one stereo channel is missing, or stereo separation makes speech difficult to follow. Remedy describes the option as combining the audio channels and removing sound directionality. Both left and right content is therefore sent as a single combined signal instead of relying on a sound arriving from a particular side.
Mono is not a universal quality upgrade. With normal stereo hearing and a working headset, it removes left-right positioning that can help you locate a voice or an approaching threat. Treat it as an accessibility or fault-isolation setting: switch it on, test a conversation, and keep it only if the combined signal is easier to understand.

- 【Wide Compatibility with Gaming Devices】Setup the perfect entertainment system by plugging in 2.4G USB. The convenience of dual USB work seamlessly with your PS5,PS4, PC, Mac, Laptop, Switch and saves you from swapping cables.
How can I tell whether a missing channel is the problem?
- Listen to a scene with the headset worn normally, then swap the ear cups or earbuds. A large change points to a fit, cable or channel issue.
- Test the same output with another application. If that application also loses one side, investigate the operating-system mixer, balance control or hardware before changing the game.
- Enable Mono Audio temporarily. If dialogue suddenly becomes complete, a missing or weak stereo channel is likely involved.
After repairing the hardware or routing, turn Mono Audio off and retest stereo. That restores directional information for players who do not need channel combining.
What does Night Mode do, and when should I enable it?
Dynamic Range – Night Mode limits the difference between quiet and loud sounds and reduces bass. Remedy describes it as a way to make loud moments less disruptive. It is useful when quiet dialogue disappears after a sudden impact, or when you must keep the television or headset at a modest level for people nearby.
Night Mode changes the character of the mix rather than selectively boosting speech. If voices remain too quiet after enabling it, return to Speech Volume and the Effects/Music controls. Players who want the broadest contrast should begin with Dynamic Range: Default and use Night Mode only when the wider range is causing a practical problem.
What is the Hyperacusis Filter for?
The Hyperacusis Filter has Low and High settings for listeners who find high-frequency sounds uncomfortable. Start with Low and move to High only if the discomfort remains. The filter is intended for comfort, not for making dialogue louder, so judge it by whether harsh sounds become tolerable while words stay understandable.
For diagnosis, Remedy’s support guidance recommends Hyperacusis Filter: Off and Bass and Treble: 0. Establish a neutral mix first, then add the filter or tone changes that address your hearing needs.
Will subtitles show every sound cue?
No. The PlayStation accessibility listing says the game’s basic subtitles cover the main story and main characters only. They are designed to preserve the primary narrative, not to caption every audible event.

That limitation means you may hear or notice an unc captioned radio line, background conversation, exertion sound, alarm or other environmental cue. If a puzzle or encounter depends on a sound outside the main character dialogue, subtitles cannot guarantee that you will see a text equivalent. Keep the audio setup comfortable and use subtitles as a second channel for story-critical speech, not as a complete sound-effects log.
Why can’t I hear dialogue through my headset?
Work from the outside in. The aim is to determine whether the fault is specific to Control Resonant, the operating-system mixer, the connection, or the headset itself. Restart the game and retest after each meaningful change so you know which step helped.
- Check another application. Play any known-good audio outside the game. If dialogue or other sounds are missing there too, skip game-specific tuning and inspect the system output device, balance and volume mixer.
- Review the in-game route. Open Options → Audio. Confirm Speech Volume is not turned down, check Master Volume, and make sure Effects and Music are not so high that they mask speech. If the platform offers Controller Speaker Volume, verify that important sound is not being directed away from the headset.
- Inspect the operating-system mixer and output device. On Windows, check the per-application volume mixer and the selected playback device. A game can be audible while its process is routed to a monitor, Bluetooth device or another output instead of the headset you are wearing.
- Reconnect and isolate the hardware path. Unplug and reconnect a wired headset; for wireless devices, reconnect the device and confirm it is the active output. Test another headset, the television speakers, a different HDMI path, Bluetooth, or USB as appropriate. A change in result identifies the original cable, port or device as the likely point of failure.
- Temporarily disable processing. Turn off operating-system audio enhancements and spatial-sound modes for the test. Virtualization can alter channel routing or make a centered voice seem unusually distant.
- Try another supported Windows audio format. If the problem occurs only on Windows, select a different format supported by the complete audio chain, then restart and test again. Do not assume the headset, USB interface, HDMI device and operating-system format all support the same modes.
- Verify the installation. Use the file-verification function in Steam or the Epic Games Launcher. Damaged or incomplete files can affect audio assets even when the game launches normally.
- Use a neutral game baseline. Set Dynamic Range to Default, Mono Audio to Off unless you need it, Hyperacusis Filter to Off, and Bass and Treble to 0. Then test one scene before reapplying accessibility adjustments.
If another application fails in the same way, the game-file step is unlikely to solve the root cause. Conversely, if other applications work and only this game is affected, keep the system path unchanged while checking the in-game mix and verifying files.
What does a channel-specific symptom suggest?
| Symptom | Most useful next check |
|---|---|
| No sound anywhere | Operating-system output device, master volume, cable or power. |
| Effects are audible but voices are absent | Speech Volume, output routing, channel balance and Mono Audio test. |
| Voices are present only on one side | Reconnect or replace the headset, inspect balance, then test Mono Audio. |
| Dialogue disappears after loud impacts | Lower Effects/Music or try Dynamic Range – Night Mode. |
| Sounds are painful or piercing | Return tone controls to 0 and try the Hyperacusis Filter at Low. |
How should I use PS5 3D Audio with the game?
The PlayStation listing says PS5 3D Audio works with a compatible headset. On PS5, first confirm the console’s output device and then choose a format supported by every part of the connection: console, headset, adapter, television or receiver. Only after that should you fine-tune Speech Volume, Night Mode or channel settings in the game.
Keep the hardware path consistent while comparing settings. Switching between television speakers, a USB headset and a Bluetooth route can change latency, channel handling and perceived balance, making it difficult to tell whether an in-game adjustment helped. If the headset is not compatible with the selected PS5 3D Audio mode, use a supported output configuration or disable that processing for a clean comparison.

| Your priority | Starting setup | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Readable story dialogue | Subtitles on; Large size and background if needed; Speaker Names on for busy scenes. | Text remains available even when the mix is crowded. |
| Speech covered by action | Raise Speech Volume slightly; lower Effects Volume. | Reduces masking without making every sound louder. |
| Speech covered by music | Raise Speech Volume slightly; lower Music Volume. | Preserves effects while reducing the competing musical layer. |
| Quiet play at night | Dynamic Range: Night Mode; moderate Master Volume. | Limits sudden peaks and reduces bass. |
| One weak ear or failed stereo side | Mono Audio on after checking the hardware. | Combines channels so content is not lost on one side. |
| High frequencies are uncomfortable | Hyperacusis Filter Low, then High if necessary. | Reduces discomfort without treating the filter as a speech boost. |
| Unknown or unstable audio fault | Default dynamic range, Mono Off, Hyperacusis Off, Bass/Treble 0. | Provides a neutral baseline for troubleshooting. |
How do I reset the setup after troubleshooting?
Write down any accessibility changes you rely on, then return the audio controls to the neutral baseline: Dynamic Range Default, Mono Audio Off, Hyperacusis Filter Off, and Bass/Treble 0. Confirm that the operating system is using the intended output, verify one conversation, and re-enable only the settings that solve a specific readability, channel or comfort issue.
There is no published player-outcome statistic showing that one preset improves dialogue comprehension for everyone. The practical test is repeatable: use the same scene, change one control, and keep the setting only when speech is clearer or listening is more comfortable without creating a new problem.

Can I use a television instead of a headset for the same setup?
Yes. The in-game subtitle and mix controls do not require a headset. PS5 3D Audio is the part that specifically requires a compatible headset and a supported console output path.
Why does Mono Audio make it harder to locate sounds?
It combines the left and right channels, so directional separation is removed. That can restore missing content for one-sided hearing or a failed channel, but it also reduces the stereo information used to judge where a sound originates.
