How do you pair the glasses?
- Install or open the Meta AI app on your phone.
- Turn on Bluetooth in the phone’s system settings.
- Put the glasses in pairing mode when prompted and select them in the Meta AI app.
- Follow the in-app first-use instructions, including any available glasses software update.
- Confirm that the glasses appear as connected in the app before testing calls, audio, or capture importing.
Ray-Ban’s official setup tutorial, published April 5, 2024, also walks through first-use setup and software updates. Follow the instructions shown in the app for the glasses in front of you, and let any offered update finish before testing features. If the glasses are not shown as connected, resolve that connection first rather than troubleshooting calls, playback, or importing as separate problems.
How do you turn on hands-free voice control?
In the Meta AI app, open the Voice settings and enable Voice Control. Once it is active, start a command with Hey Meta. Voice control is optional; the capture button and right-temple touchpad continue to handle the core camera and playback actions.

Voice is useful when you want to call or message someone, select a media service, adjust volume, or capture an image without touching the glasses. The official FAQ describes “Hey Meta” as a way to answer questions, get information, spark creativity, and express yourself hands-free, as well as take photos and videos, call, message, and control media and volume. For this guide’s everyday tasks, the practical distinction is simple: enable the feature in the app for spoken commands, and use physical controls when you prefer not to speak or when a command is not recognized.
How do you connect a music service?
Open the Meta AI app’s settings and choose the supported media-service connection. Sign in to Apple Music, Amazon Music, or Calm when prompted. Connecting a service in the app lets you start and control it by voice or touch instead of opening the phone each time.
Service setup and playback control are separate steps. First link the service through the app; then use its name in a command to start it, or use the touchpad to control the stream already playing. The documented integrations are Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Calm. Do not assume that every other audio or streaming service can be linked or controlled in the same way.
How do you make, answer, and control calls?
With Voice Control enabled, say Hey Meta, call [contact name] to place a call. You can also specify a supported messaging service, for example Hey Meta, call [contact name] on Messenger or Hey Meta, call [contact name] on WhatsApp. To send a message, say Hey Meta, send a message to [contact name] and follow the spoken prompts.
Say the contact’s name as it is recognized by the phone and use the service name when you want to direct a call through Messenger or WhatsApp. A messaging command is not the same as a media command: it requires Voice Control and the phone-based calling or messaging integration to be available. Pairing the glasses is therefore a prerequisite, not just a way to transfer pictures later.
What happens when a call arrives?
An incoming call produces a white blink on the inward-facing notification LED. While the call is connected, that inward-facing LED pulses white. Answer or manage the call using the voice prompt and controls presented by the glasses and phone integration.
The inward-facing light is intended as a status signal for the wearer, unlike the forward-facing capture LED, which is visible to people in front of the glasses during capture. The two indicators communicate different things. If you are trying to tell whether the camera is active, look for the forward-facing signal rather than interpreting the call notification LED.
What if people cannot hear you?
Before starting a call, open the Meta AI app and go to Glasses & privacy → Your glasses → Microphone troubleshooting. Use the Microphone adjustment toggle, then test the microphone again. The official guidance recommends changing this setting before a call rather than trying to alter it while a call is already in progress.
If the problem is that you cannot hear the other person, first check that the glasses remain connected to the phone and that the call is using the expected audio connection. If the other person cannot hear you, use the microphone troubleshooting path above instead of repeatedly changing settings during a live call. The documented advice is specifically to adjust the microphone setting before the call.
What does the phone still do during a call?
The glasses provide the hands-free interface, but the phone supplies the Bluetooth connection and the underlying calling or messaging integration. If the phone is not paired or its wireless connection is interrupted, calls and messaging commands may not work as expected.
On iPhone, Siri call announcements can overlap with Meta announcements. If calls are announced twice or the announcements conflict, adjust call-announcement settings on the iPhone and in the Meta AI app. This is a settings issue involving two announcement systems, not a reason to assume that the glasses have stopped receiving calls.

How do you play music and adjust volume?
After connecting Apple Music, Amazon Music, or Calm in the Meta AI app, you can start playback with a voice command or control the current stream from the right temple. The touchpad recognizes taps and swipes, so you can leave the phone in your pocket.
Use voice when you want to name a connected service or make a hands-free adjustment. Use the temple touchpad for repeatable playback actions without needing a spoken command. If a track is already playing, the basic gestures work on that stream; if you want a particular integrated service to start, name it in your voice command.
What do the right-temple controls do?

The tap count matters: one tap toggles playback, two taps move forward, and three taps move back. Swipes change volume rather than tracks. If you are learning the controls, test them while audio is playing so you can confirm whether the glasses are responding to a tap or a swipe as intended.
Which voice commands work for media?
Examples include Hey Meta, play Apple Music, Hey Meta, play Amazon Music, Hey Meta, pause, Hey Meta, skip, and Hey Meta, volume up. Use the service name when you want to start a specific connected provider; use the shorter playback commands for the stream that is already active.
These examples cover both starting a provider and controlling playback. If a service command does not work, confirm that the service was connected in the Meta AI app, that Voice Control is on, and that you began with the wake phrase. You can still test the right-temple controls separately to determine whether the issue is with voice recognition or with the media connection.

Closing the glasses pauses streaming. Opening them again reconnects to the Bluetooth audio source, allowing playback to continue without manually reopening the music app.
This behavior can be useful when you put the glasses away briefly: folding pauses playback, and reopening reconnects to the Bluetooth audio source. If playback does not resume as expected, check the phone connection and the selected service rather than assuming the glasses have permanently lost the media integration.
How do you take photos and record video?
The physical capture button is the quickest method. Press it once for a photo. To record video, press and hold the capture button until recording starts, then press the button again to stop.
For a still image, a single press is the complete capture action. Video uses a press-and-hold to begin and a further press to end the clip. This makes the capture button a useful alternative when Voice Control is off, when you do not want to speak, or when you want a direct physical action.

With Voice Control active, say Hey Meta, take a photo or Hey Meta, take a picture for a still image. Say Hey Meta, take a video to begin recording and Hey Meta, stop video to finish.
Voice capture follows the same basic distinction as button capture: request a photo for a still, or request a video and then tell the glasses to stop. For either method, check that the forward-facing capture LED activates. The signal is an important indication to people nearby that a photo or video may be in progress.
How long can a video be?
The default video length is 30 seconds. In the Meta AI app’s camera settings, you can choose 60 seconds or 3 minutes instead. Those are capture-length settings, not guarantees that every recording will reach the selected limit; stopping manually ends the clip earlier.
If you want a longer clip than the default, change the duration in the app’s settings before recording. The available choices documented by Ray-Ban are 30 seconds by default, 60 seconds, and 3 minutes. Keep in mind that the stop-video command or a button press ends recording sooner, so the configured maximum does not force a clip to continue.

What does the capture light mean?
The forward-facing capture LED activates during photo or video capture. It gives people in front of you a visible indication that the camera may be recording. Do not cover or disable the LED, and explain the recording context when local rules or social expectations require consent.
Use the light as a visible privacy signal, not as a substitute for good judgment. Before recording in public or around other people, check that the indicator is unobstructed and consider whether consent or an explanation is appropriate. The inward-facing notification LED has a separate role, reporting wearer-facing states such as calls, power, wake, low battery, shutdown, capture, and voice activity.
How do you import and share photos and videos?
Captures move to the phone through the Meta AI app after the glasses are paired. Open the app’s gallery, select the download control for the items you want, and use the gallery’s sharing or saving options once the files are on the phone.
- Open the Meta AI app with the glasses connected.
- Go to the glasses gallery and wait for available captures to appear.
- Tap the download control for an individual item or the available selection.
- Save the downloaded file to the phone’s photo library or share it from the gallery.
Capturing and importing are separate parts of the workflow. The button or voice command takes the photo or video on the glasses; the app gallery is where you find the capture and use the download control. Do not expect an image to appear automatically in the phone’s photo library before it has been downloaded through the app.
If the gallery is empty, verify that the glasses are still paired and that both the app and glasses are running current software before trying the transfer again.
What do the Ray-Ban Meta LED signals tell you?
Two LEDs serve different purposes. The forward-facing LED is the privacy indicator for camera activity; the inward-facing notification LED reports states that are mainly visible to the wearer.

Check both the LEDs and the app’s privacy settings before recording in public. System sounds for events such as taking a photo can be adjusted in the Meta AI app, but the glasses retain event feedback rather than offering a complete silent mode.
In other words, changing sound levels is not the same as disabling all capture feedback. Ray-Ban’s FAQ says system sounds can be adjusted but cannot be turned off entirely. If you want additional confirmation that a photo was taken, leave audible feedback at a level you can hear; regardless, keep the forward-facing LED visible during capture.

How do you troubleshoot pairing, importing, and audio?
Pairing fails or the glasses disappear from the app
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled and that the glasses are charged.
- Check the Meta AI app version and the glasses software version.
- Turn Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off and on again, then restart the phone.
- Reopen the Meta AI app and retry pairing.
- If the connection remains stuck, unpair the glasses and complete the pairing process again from the app.
Work through the checks in order: connection and charge first, software versions next, then wireless restarts and phone restart. Unpairing and pairing again is a later step when the simpler checks have not resolved the problem. After a successful reconnection, verify the glasses in the app before testing other features.
Photos or videos will not import
Keep the glasses near the phone with Bluetooth active, then reopen the Meta AI app and check the gallery. A software-version mismatch can prevent transfers, so update both the app and glasses before unpairing and pairing again. Use the gallery download control rather than expecting captures to appear automatically in the phone’s photo library.
Music will not start
Confirm that the desired service is connected in the Meta AI app and that the phone has an active Bluetooth connection to the glasses. Try a direct voice command such as Hey Meta, play Apple Music, then use the temple gestures to test pause, skip, and volume independently.
If voice does not start the service, a touch test helps separate a command problem from a connection problem. If touch controls work on an active stream but the named provider will not start, check the app’s service connection and sign-in. If neither voice nor touch controls audio, confirm that the glasses have reconnected to the phone’s Bluetooth audio source.

Check that Voice Control is enabled in the app’s Voice settings and begin with the wake phrase Hey Meta. Speak the contact, service, or camera action clearly, and verify that the glasses show their voice-activity status before repeating the command.

If the command is still not recognized, use the physical control where available: the capture button for a photo or video, and the right-temple touchpad for playback and volume. These alternatives do not replace pairing or service setup, but they help identify whether the issue is limited to voice control.
Are Ray-Ban Meta glasses dependent on a phone?
For the functions covered here, yes, you should treat the phone and Meta AI app as part of the system. Initial pairing is required before relying on calls, messaging, connected music services, or importing captures. Are music apps other than Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Calm supported?
Those three services are the integrations documented for these controls. Ray-Ban’s official material does not establish support for every other streaming app, so do not assume an unlisted service will respond to the same voice commands or appear in the Meta AI app’s connection settings.
Why does my iPhone announce a call twice?
