When should I upgrade a tower instead of adding another one?
Upgrade when the existing tower is already firing through the busiest part of the route and another placement would not add meaningful range, coverage or control. Add a new tower first when you have an uncovered entrance, an air threat, a resistant enemy or a choke point with no damage at all.
- Identify the failure. Is a runner escaping because it is too fast, because the tower cannot target it, or because total damage is too low? A speed problem calls for slow coverage; a targeting problem calls for a different class; a damage problem can justify an upgrade.
- Check firing time, not price. A lower-priced tower that fires for most of the route can outperform a costly weapon that gets one shot at a corner.
- Upgrade the productive choke point. Prioritize the tower that repeatedly hits large groups or a dangerous runner before upgrading a tower that rarely acquires a target.
- Re-evaluate after each wave. New enemy types can invalidate an earlier choice. Keep cash available for anti-air or a resistance-safe weapon instead of spending every coin on a single damage tier.

How do I build a difficult map step by step?
- Read the objective before placing anything. A kill target, a time limit, a leak allowance and a restricted tower list each change the correct opening.
- Map every entrance. Pause and place a minimal number of cheap gun towers so that streams converge where your first damage cluster will sit.
- Secure the first wave. Put enough direct damage at the first bend to stop an early leak. A beautiful maze that fails immediately cannot be repaired economically.
- Add control. Place Glue, Oil, Ice or another available slow tower where runners are already inside the damage cluster. Avoid two identical slow fields covering the same short segment unless the map gives you a clear, separate purpose.

Helicopters and other air units
Ground mazes do not automatically protect against flying units. Place Tesla or another available anti-air tower on the helicopter approach, and check its range while paused. If air units arrive from a different entrance or cross the map outside your ground choke point, a single anti-air position at the center may leave a blind spot.
What changes between Survival, Time Trial, Puzzle and Sudden Death?
Survival
Survival rewards a stable, repeatable defense. Build for sustained waves, keep leaks below the map’s allowance and upgrade productive choke points before extending the maze again. Endless continuation is optional and brings escalating enemy health, so a build that clears the required waves may not remain efficient indefinitely.

Time Trial
Time Trial changes the value of distance: killing near the entrance can be better than sending enemies through a very long route, because faster wave clearance brings the next wave sooner.
