If you already own Volcano Princess on Steam, you do not need to purchase another edition. The original PC game is scheduled to receive the Complete Edition content as a free update on October 30, 2026. Steam should download it through the normal Library and Downloads screens. Before launching the new build, copy your save folder to a safe location; the developer has previously documented save migrations when the save structure changed. If the update is missing, paused, or fails, use Steam’s own queue, cache, library-repair, download-region, and file-verification tools rather than downloading an unofficial patch.
Do I need to buy Volcano Princess Complete Edition again?

The developer said the Steam release was planned roughly three months after the Complete Edition launched on other platforms. That timing explains why the Steam game remains the original store product while receiving the newer content.
What should I do before installing the update?
Make a manual copy of your save folder before opening the updated build. This is a precaution, not a prediction that your save will be lost: the available developer guidance documents earlier save migrations and recommends backing up before a version with a changed save structure.

In Windows, you can paste that path into File Explorer’s address bar after adding your user-profile location, or use the %USERPROFILE% environment path before AppDataLocalLowEggHatcherVolcanoPrincess. Copy the entire VolcanoPrincess folder to another drive, a removable drive, or a clearly named folder outside the game’s save directory. Do not move the original; make a copy.
What the earlier migration guidance means
The same update log described an OldVersionArchives backup folder during a previous update with a changed save structure. That record shows why a backup is sensible, but it does not establish that every Complete Edition save will migrate in exactly the same way. Keep your manual copy until you have launched the new build and confirmed that your progress loads correctly.
How do I install the free update through Steam?
Use the Steam client. Do not obtain a patch from a random download site; the supported installation route is Steam’s own content delivery system.
- Open the Steam client and sign in to the account that owns Volcano Princess.
- Open Library and select Volcano Princess.
- Let Steam place the released update in its download queue. Steam normally queues game updates automatically when they become available.

Which Steam update setting should Volcano Princess use?
For an unattended rollout, set the game to Always keep this game updated. Steam also offers Only update this game when I launch it and High Priority – Always auto-update this game before others.
- Open Library and select Volcano Princess.
- Open the game’s gear menu, then choose Properties.
- Open the Updates section.
- Select Always keep this game updated unless you intentionally manage updates yourself.
The launch-only option can make the update appear absent until Steam starts the game. If you select that option, use the Downloads view immediately after launching and allow the update to finish before closing Steam.

Why is my Volcano Princess update not downloading?
Work through Steam’s checks in order. They address a hidden queue entry, an update policy that delays downloads, stale client data, an unwritable library folder, and a regional content-server problem.

Open the game’s Library page and then the Downloads view. Look for a job that is paused, queued behind another title, or marked failed. Resume a paused job and let earlier downloads finish or move the game up in the queue if Steam provides that control.
2. Check the per-game update policy
Open the game’s gear menu, choose Properties, and inspect Updates. If it is set to Only update this game when I launch it, Steam may not download the Complete Edition content until the game starts. Change it to Always keep this game updated, return to Downloads, and wait for the job to begin.

3. Restart Steam and the computer
Exit Steam completely, reopen it, and check the Downloads view again. If the job remains absent or failed, restart the computer and repeat the check. Steam lists restarting as a first-line response to update and installation errors because it refreshes the client and its connection to the content service.
4. Clear Steam’s download cache
Use Steam > Settings > Downloads > Clear Download Cache. Steam describes this as flushing locally cached configuration data so the client can reacquire current information from its servers. Clearing the cache can sign you out, so sign in again, reopen Volcano Princess in Library, and inspect Downloads.
5. Repair the Steam Library folder

- Restart the computer and launch Steam.
- In Library, right-click Volcano Princess, or open the game’s gear menu.
- Choose Properties.
- Choose Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to finish. Steam notes that the process can take several minutes.
When the check ends, reopen the Downloads view. If Steam reacquires files, allow that download and installation to finish before launching. Verification is a repair and consistency check; it is not a separate way to purchase or unlock the Complete Edition.
What does “one or more files failed to verify” mean?
It does not automatically mean that the Complete Edition update failed. Steam says one or more files may fail verification in a normal installation because local configuration files are not meant to be replaced. A failed-file count alone is therefore insufficient evidence of corruption.
Use the result together with what Steam does next. If Steam schedules replacement files, leave Downloads open until that work completes, run the check again if needed, and then launch the game. If the game still will not start, repeat the restart, cache-clear, library-repair, and verification sequence rather than deleting the save folder.

Keep the manual copy of AppDataLocalLowEggHatcherVolcanoPrincess until you have opened the updated game, loaded a known save, and confirmed that your progress and settings are present. If the game presents a migration or creates an archive folder, do not delete either the new files or your manual backup while you decide which save state is correct.
