As of October 30, 2026, AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1 is not yet available to turn on manually on Xbox Series X or Series S. AMD says console support is “coming soon,” but has published neither a release date nor console launch-game list. On the Windows-based ROG Xbox Ally X, ASUS documents a preview-driver path: install the applicable OEM GPU update, enable AMD FSR Upscaling in AMD Software or the Command Center tile, then select FSR in a supported game’s graphics menu. The base ROG Xbox Ally has conflicting ASUS availability wording, so owners should check their own Armoury Crate SE update feed rather than assume the preview is installed. The Ally’s Xbox-style full-screen interface does not make it an Xbox console; it remains a Windows handheld with a separate driver and game-support model.
What is the current FSR 4.1 status on Xbox devices?
The answer depends entirely on whether you mean an Xbox console or a Windows handheld. AMD’s October 20, 2026 announcement lists “Xbox Series X|S consoles, coming soon.” That is an availability statement, not an activation instruction. Can I turn on FSR 4.1 on Xbox Series X or Series S?
No verified procedure exists for either console as of the date above. A Series X|S game showing an FSR 2 or FSR 3 option does not prove that its console build contains FSR 4.1, and installing a PC driver or changing Windows settings cannot add a feature to an Xbox console.
What AMD has actually announced
AMD’s wording is deliberately prospective: “Xbox Series X|S consoles, coming soon.” The announcement does not identify a system-update menu, a developer switch, a first supported title, or a date when owners should expect the feature. Until AMD or Xbox publishes those details, any guide claiming a current Series X|S FSR 4.1 toggle is extrapolating beyond the official information.

What to do on a console today
- Update the console and the game normally, then use the game’s own documented graphics options.
- Treat the visible FSR label as the version implemented by that title’s console build, not as proof of Redstone/FSR 4.1.
- Recheck AMD’s console announcement and Xbox communications for an actual rollout, supported-game list, and activation path before changing settings.
Do not buy a Series X or Series S specifically to obtain FSR 4.1 today; the announced console support has not reached a documented, user-configurable release.
How do I enable FSR 4.1 on the ROG Xbox Ally X?
The Ally X route uses ASUS’s device-specific GPU package and a supported game’s own FSR setting. The procedure below follows ASUS’s preview instructions; preview software can be unstable, so the equivalent release under Official Updates is the safer choice if you do not need early access.

- Confirm that you are using the ROG Xbox Ally X, not an Xbox Series console. ASUS identifies the Ally X with a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor; AMD lists that handheld class as eligible for FSR 4.1 upscaling.
- Connect the handheld to AC power, close the game, and make sure Windows and Armoury Crate SE can complete a driver installation.
- Use ASUS’s OEM GPU driver. AMD’s generic Adrenalin 26.10.1 package is not the correct handheld package; its release notes explicitly state, “AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition does not include support for handheld gaming devices” (AMD release notes).
1. Install the preview GPU update
- Open Armoury Crate SE on the Ally X.
- Choose Update Center, then open Preview Updates.
- Install the latest applicable GPU update for the Ally X and allow the device to restart if ASUS requests it.
- If no preview appears, do not substitute a generic desktop driver. Check again after ASUS publishes the device-specific package, or use Official Updates when you prefer a stable release.
2. Turn on the driver feature
ASUS documents two equivalent controls. In AMD Software, open Gaming > Graphics and enable AMD FSR Upscaling. Alternatively, open the Ally’s Command Center, press Y to customize its layout, add the FSR Upscaling tile, and switch that tile on.
The tile or AMD Software setting makes the driver upgrade route available; it does not force every game to render with FSR. Leave the game closed while enabling the feature, then restart the game so it can detect the driver state.
3. Enable FSR in the game
- Launch a title that supports AMD’s documented FSR path.
- Open its Graphics, Video, or similarly named options menu.
- Choose the game’s FSR option. Some interfaces still label the control FSR 4 even when the underlying Redstone implementation is the current 4.1 generation.
- Select a quality preset offered by the title. ASUS’s general handheld guidance treats Quality or Balanced as sensible starting points; the correct choice depends on the game’s resolution and performance target.
- Apply the change and restart the title if it does not take effect immediately.
FSR Upscaling 4.1 is an upscaler, not a universal frame-rate switch. The final image and performance depend on the game’s integration, output resolution, workload, and selected preset.
Does the regular ROG Xbox Ally get FSR 4.1?
Possibly, but the ASUS material available for October 2026 does not establish a clean base-model release date. One ASUS article says in its introduction that the base ROG Xbox Ally GPU driver is “coming soon,” while the same article’s Key Points say FSR 4.1 is already available as a preview for the base Ally as well as the Ally X and X20. Because those statements conflict, the update offer shown on your device is the reliable test.

Conditional setup for base-Ally owners
- Open Armoury Crate SE > Update Center > Preview Updates.
- If an applicable base-Ally GPU preview is listed, install it and restart as directed.
- Use AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition > Gaming > Graphics to enable AMD FSR Upscaling, or add the same tile through Command Center by pressing Y to customize the layout.
- Enable FSR in the supported game’s graphics menu and restart the title if necessary.
If the preview is absent, your device has not received the applicable ASUS package. Wait for ASUS’s device-specific update rather than installing the unsupported generic Adrenalin download. ASUS’s Ryzen Z2 A base Ally is in the processor class AMD identifies as eligible for upscaling, but hardware eligibility alone does not prove that the OEM rollout has landed.
How does a game become eligible for FSR 4.1?
A compatible handheld driver is only one part of the chain. The game must expose an appropriate FSR integration, and the particular PC build must support the feature path you intend to use.
Native ML-based integration
Some titles integrate one or more Redstone technologies directly. In those games, the FSR control appears in the game’s own graphics menu after the correct ASUS driver is installed. The menu may use the shorter “FSR 4” wording, so the label alone is not a version audit.
Driver upgrade for FSR 3.1-or-newer titles
AMD’s upgrade route applies to appropriately integrated games using at least FSR 3.1. AMD’s live technology page marks some entries with an asterisk to indicate this driver-upgrade requirement; other entries have native integration of one or more Redstone technologies (AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution). A game appearing on AMD’s broad list is not proof that every Redstone feature works in every build, nor that the Xbox console version supports it.
Upscaling is separate from frame generation
AMD describes the Ryzen Z2 handheld class as upscaling-only for Redstone. Do not read an FSR Upscaling 4.1 toggle as a promise of ML frame generation, Radeon Super Resolution, or a particular frames-per-second increase. AMD specifies a separate set of conditions for the ML frame-generation upgrade path: at least FSR 3.1.4, Windows 11, and DirectX 12. Those requirements describe a different feature path.
Why is the FSR Upscaling toggle or tile missing?
Work through the device, driver, game, and restart checks in that order. Missing one layer can make the next control invisible.

Check the exact hardware
Confirm that the device is an Ally X, base Ally, or another supported Ryzen Z2 handheld class—not a Series X|S console. The Xbox-style launcher on Ally hardware does not change its Windows driver requirements.
Check Armoury Crate SE
Open Update Center > Preview Updates and look for the applicable ASUS GPU package. If the base Ally has no listing, use the conditional rollout guidance above. If you prefer reliability, inspect Official Updates instead of forcing a preview package.

Check AMD Software or Command Center
After the OEM update, verify AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition > Gaming > Graphics > AMD FSR Upscaling. If you use the quick-access route, customize Command Center with Y and add the FSR Upscaling tile. A missing tile after an update can indicate that the package did not install correctly or that the handheld needs a restart.
Check the game’s integration
Open the title’s graphics or video menu. The driver cannot add an FSR control to a game with no compatible integration. Consult AMD’s current supported-game page before assuming that a similarly named edition, launcher build, or console port has the same support.
Restart before replacing anything
Close the title, restart Windows, and launch it again after enabling the feature. If the option remains absent, revert to the official ASUS package or wait for a stable release; do not download replacement DLL files or stack an unsupported desktop driver on top of the handheld OEM driver.
Can FSR 4.1 run together with Radeon Super Resolution?
ASUS advises against combining a game’s FSR setting with Radeon Super Resolution (RSR). Both can perform scaling, and stacking them can produce an unintended processing path rather than a meaningful quality improvement. Use the game’s FSR control when the title supports it, and leave RSR off for that title unless ASUS or the game’s documentation gives a specific exception.

What performance should I expect?
No controlled, Ally-specific FSR 4.1 frame-rate comparison is published in the material available for this date, so there is no defensible FPS figure to quote. ASUS describes the efficient FSR 4.1 model used on the Ally X and X20 as less than half the size of the original INT8 model; that is a model-size description, not a measured frame-rate gain.
AMD currently describes more than 400 supported ML-powered FSR Upscaling titles. That count is not a tally of released Series X|S FSR 4.1 games, nor a handheld benchmark. Actual results vary with the game’s native resolution, preset, CPU/GPU load, display refresh rate, and whether the title uses native integration or the driver-upgrade route.
Can I connect an Ally to a TV while using FSR?
Yes, an Ally can be connected to an external display through a compatible dock or adapter, but the connection does not install or unlock FSR 4.1. ASUS names the ROG Bulwark Dock (2025) DG300 for handheld-to-display use; treat it as an I/O accessory, not a graphics feature. FSR availability still comes from the OEM driver, the Windows handheld, and the game’s integration.

- Series X|S owner: wait for AMD/Xbox to publish the console release and title-specific instructions. There is no current manual enablement path.
- Ally X owner: install the ASUS preview GPU update from Armoury Crate SE, enable AMD FSR Upscaling, then select FSR in a supported game’s graphics options.
- Base Ally owner: check Preview Updates on the device because ASUS’s public wording conflicts on rollout timing.

Why does my game still call the option “FSR 4”?
Game developers may retain the shorter menu label while updating the underlying Redstone implementation. The label is a user-interface choice; it does not by itself identify whether the title uses native 4.1 features or the driver upgrade path.
Will a generic desktop Radeon driver unlock FSR on an Ally?
No. AMD’s 26.10.1 release notes exclude handheld gaming-device support, and the Ally procedure depends on ASUS’s OEM package. Installing a desktop package can leave the handheld without the expected control rather than adding it.
Is the X20 preview proof that the model is sold in my country?
No. ASUS’s announcement is localized to Switzerland and names the X20 in the preview context, but it does not establish retail availability in every market. Check your regional ASUS listing and the update feed on the specific device before treating it as a purchase option.

Does enabling FSR guarantee a higher frame rate?
No. Upscaling can reduce the internal rendering workload, but the outcome depends on the title, preset, resolution, and limiting component. No Ally-specific controlled FPS result is established here, so use the game’s own performance display or a reputable published measurement for that particular title.
