There is no universal console switch that disables every motion control, quick-time event (QTE), or other gameplay mechanic. Open the specific game’s Accessibility, Gameplay, or Controls menu and change the option that matches the problem: Motion Sensor Function Aiming for gyro input, QTE Auto Complete for supported QTEs, or Repeated Button Presses > Hold to replace rapid tapping. Camera shake, motion blur, puzzle timers, and remapped buttons are separate settings with different results.
The steps below explain what each option actually changes, show documented examples from current PlayStation and PC games, and outline platform remapping and adaptive-controller options when a game does not provide the assist you need.

Identify the exact barrier before changing a setting. Tilting a controller to aim is an input problem; a swaying camera is a visual-comfort problem; a rapidly flashing button prompt is a QTE problem; and an awkward controller layout is an access problem. Each normally has its own control.
| Problem | Look for | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Controller tilt or gyro aiming | Motion Sensor Function Aiming, Motion Sensor Aiming, or Gyro | Stops or changes motion-based aiming in that game |
| One-time timed prompt | QTE Auto Complete, QTE Autocomplete, or a timing assist | May remove the required button input, if the game supports it |
| Rapid repeated presses | Repeated Button Presses > Hold, Button Mash Assist, or similar | Substitutes a hold or easier input; it may not skip the scene |
| Camera shake, blur, or sway | Camera Shake, Motion Blur, Sway, or a motion-reduction preset | Reduces visual movement, not controller motion input |
| Unreachable or painful button | Custom Controls, Alternate Controls, or platform remapping | Moves the command to another physical input |
Pause in a suitable scene after each change. Confirm whether the setting removes the mechanic, substitutes the input, gives you more time, or only changes the presentation.

How do I turn off motion controls or gyro aiming?
Open the game’s own control or accessibility settings and disable its motion-sensor aiming option. A console-wide “turn off gyro everywhere” switch is not documented for the examples below, so a setting in one game does not prove that another game has the same label or behavior.
God of War Ragnarök
In the game’s settings, find Motion Sensor Function Aiming Activation and choose Off. The menu also offers an Aiming state, so check which behavior you want before leaving the screen. This option concerns motion-sensor aiming; it is not the same as the game’s motion-reduction preset.
The Last of Us Part I
Open the accessibility controls and set Motion Sensor Function Aiming to Off. The game separately exposes camera-shake and motion-blur controls. Turning off blur or shake can make the image steadier, but it does not disable motion-sensor aiming.
Games with a generic “gyro” label
Some games place the switch under Controls, while others put it under Accessibility or Gameplay. Search every relevant submenu for “motion,” “sensor,” or “gyro.” If no option exists, a remap can move an aiming command to a stick or another control, but that is a substitute input, not proof that the game has disabled its motion code.
How do I skip or complete quick-time events?
Only a game-level QTE assist can remove the required QTE input. The clearest documented example is Insomniac’s QTE Autocomplete in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2; its accessibility description says, “Auto advance all QTE sequences without button presses.” Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered lists a similarly named QTE Auto Complete option. Do not assume that every version of a game, or every title in a series, includes it.
Enable the game’s QTE option
- Pause the game and open Settings.
- Check Accessibility first, then Gameplay or Controls.
- Enable QTE Auto Complete, QTE Autocomplete, or the closest explicitly named option.
- Resume at a scene containing a QTE and verify whether the sequence advances without your input.
An auto-complete setting is different from a button remap. Remapping changes which physical button sends an input; it does not necessarily remove the QTE or its time limit.

If there is no auto-complete switch
Look for a repeated-press assist, extended timing, adjustable game speed, or an automatic option inside the relevant minigame. These alternatives can reduce the physical demand while leaving the scene or challenge intact. State the result precisely: “hold instead of tap,” “more time,” and “automatic completion” are not interchangeable outcomes.
How do I stop button-mashing without skipping the scene?
Choose a hold-based repeated-button option when the game provides one. In God of War Ragnarök and The Last of Us Part I, Repeated Button Presses > Hold lets you hold a button rather than tap it repeatedly. The timed action can still occur, so this is a physical-input assist, not a QTE skip.
- Open the game’s Accessibility menu.
- Find Repeated Button Presses or the equivalent input-assist heading.
- Select Hold instead of Tap or Rapid Presses.
- Try the next repeated-input prompt and note whether a hold, a toggle, or another action is required.
If holding is also difficult, search for a toggle, an automatic minigame mode, or a longer timing window. The available choices differ by game and edition.
How do I reduce camera shake, blur, or swaying?
Use visual-comfort settings when the discomfort comes from the image rather than from tilting the controller. Camera shake, motion blur, head bob, sway, and a motion-reduction preset affect what you see; they do not turn off gyro aiming.

God of War Ragnarök
The game documents a motion-reduction preset in addition to its motion-sensor aiming control. Use the preset or individual visual options if camera movement is the issue, and use Motion Sensor Function Aiming Activation > Off if tilting the controller is the issue.
The Last of Us Part I
Its accessibility menu lists motion-sensor aiming separately from camera shake and motion blur. You can therefore leave aiming on while reducing visual movement, or turn aiming off without changing the camera presentation.

After changing a visual option, check a scene with traversal or combat movement. If the controller still responds to tilting, return to the motion-sensor setting; reducing blur alone will not change that input.
Which other gameplay assists can remove a specific barrier?
Games often provide targeted assists rather than one master “disable gameplay” switch. Choose the mechanic that is blocking progress.

Precision and minigames
The same game lists Precision, Single Button, and Auto precision-minigame styles. Pick the style that matches the input you can perform. “Auto” in a particular minigame should not be read as an automatic setting for every interaction.
Dodge and parry timing
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 lists adjustable game speed and dodge/parry timing options. These settings can make reaction windows more manageable, but they do not necessarily remove every combat prompt or QTE.
Hold, toggle, and alternate inputs
The Last of Us Part I documents hold/toggle actions and minigame input or timing adjustments. The Last of Us Part II‘s original accessibility guide describes alternate touchpad and guitar inputs, as well as a motor-accessibility preset. How do I remap controls on PlayStation 5?
Use the game’s custom control scheme first, because it can preserve context-sensitive prompts and behavior. If the game lacks a suitable layout, PS5 provides a system-level remap for the DualSense Wireless Controller.
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Choose Accessibility.
- Select Controllers.
- Open Custom Button Assignments for DualSense Wireless Controller.
- Assign the physically easier button, then return to the game and check every affected command.
System remapping changes where an input comes from. It does not document automatic completion of a game’s QTE, and on-screen labels may no longer match the physical button you press.
To inspect a game’s documented accessibility features before launching it, open the game’s hub in the PlayStation Store and review the listed accessibility information. Availability and labels can vary by title and update.
What can I do on PC when the prompts or gyro behavior are wrong?
Steam Input is device-configuration software, not a universal accessibility switch. Do not treat a global Steam Input instruction as a blanket solution for gyro aiming or QTEs.
For the PC version of God of War, Santa Monica Studio gives a specific troubleshooting instruction: if DualSense or DualShock prompts are incorrect, disable Steam Input in that game’s Steam Controller properties. That is a game-specific fix for controller detection and prompts. It does not establish that disabling Steam Input turns off gyro controls in other games.
- Check the game’s own control and accessibility menus first.
- If prompts are wrong, open the game’s Steam properties and inspect its controller settings.
- Change Steam Input only for that title when the developer’s instructions call for it.
- Restart the game and verify prompts, sticks, triggers, and motion input separately.
What if a required input is still physically difficult?
Use the least invasive free option first: a game-specific remap, hold or toggle mode, timing adjustment, or auto option. If the game still requires an input you cannot comfortably provide, an adaptive controller can change how that input is made, but it does not automatically disable QTEs.

PlayStation 5
Sony’s PlayStation Access controller supports configurable inputs, profiles, and external-switch connections. Its guide documents four 3.5 mm AUX expansion ports and up to 30 on-console control profiles. Those are hardware capabilities, not statistics about disabled players or QTE availability. Compatible switches and accessories must be checked for the exact controller, connector, and game setup; Sony names the Logitech G Adaptive Gaming Kit for Access controller as one accessory example.
Xbox and Windows
Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller is a separate platform-qualified option with external inputs and profiles. Confirm the device’s compatibility with the console or Windows setup, the game, and any required switch before buying. Neither adaptive controller is documented as a game-level QTE skip.
How should I choose between auto-complete, hold, timing, and remapping?
Choose by outcome rather than by the word “assist.” The following distinctions prevent a setting from solving the wrong problem.
| Option | Scope | Outcome | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| QTE Auto Complete | Specific game and supported QTE sequences | Advances QTEs without the required button presses | You want the QTE input removed |
| Repeated Button Presses > Hold | Prompts that require repeated presses | Replaces rapid tapping with a hold | You can hold but not mash |
| Extended timing or adjustable speed | Specific puzzles, combat, or minigames | Provides more reaction time or slows the sequence | You need additional time, not a skip |
| Camera-shake or blur reduction | Visual presentation | Reduces image movement | The display causes discomfort |
| Custom button assignment | Game or platform controls | Moves an input to another button or switch | The command is physically hard to reach |
| Adaptive controller or external switch | Hardware input method | Provides an alternate physical way to send commands | Standard controls remain inaccessible |
What are the common failure modes?
- Turning off motion blur instead of gyro: blur changes the image; motion-sensor aiming changes the input.
- Expecting a remap to skip a QTE: remapping relocates the command but does not prove that the event is removed.
- Assuming “hold” means “auto-complete”: a hold still requires an input and may leave the timed scene in place.
- Applying one game’s label to another: “QTE Autocomplete,” “QTE Auto Complete,” and repeated-press assists are not universal standards.
- Changing a global PC setting first: Steam Input behavior is game- and device-dependent; follow a developer’s title-specific guidance.
- Ignoring edition differences: an accessibility guide for an original release may not describe a remaster, remake, or later patch.
- Changing several settings at once: one-at-a-time changes reveal whether the result is a skip, substitution, timing extension, visual reduction, or remap.
How do I verify that the change worked?
- Write down the exact barrier: tilt, rapid tapping, a single timed prompt, camera movement, or button reach.
- Change only the matching setting.
- Use a save or checkpoint before a representative scene.
- Observe the input requirement, timer, camera behavior, and on-screen prompt separately.
- Keep the setting if it produces the intended outcome; otherwise restore it and try the next narrower assist.
This process matters because two settings can sound similar while affecting different systems. A visual preset may leave gyro active, and a hold mode may leave a QTE’s timing and story sequence unchanged.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will turning off gyro aiming affect ordinary stick aiming?
No. The documented motion-sensor options disable the motion-based aiming input; the standard analog-stick aiming control remains a separate input. Check the game’s control screen if it combines or layers those inputs.
Can accessibility settings be saved separately for different players?
Some games and hardware support profiles, while others keep one active configuration. On PS5, Sony documents up to 30 on-console profiles for the Access controller; the game itself may still use a single settings file.

Do accessibility assists change trophies or achievements?
The supplied game settings do not establish a universal trophy rule. Check the specific game’s accessibility or trophy documentation before assuming that an assist will disable, preserve, or alter achievement progress.
What should I do if a patch removes or renames an option?
Recheck the game’s current Accessibility, Gameplay, and Controls menus and its publisher’s updated guide. Menu names and availability can change by platform, edition, and patch, so an older walkthrough may no longer match your build.
