If “Hey Meta” is not responding on your Ray-Ban Meta glasses, start with the Meta AI app’s Voice and Hey Meta settings, then check power, Bluetooth range, and background noise. Look for the white notification LED or optional wake sound to determine whether the glasses heard the wake word. If settings and basic checks fail, update the app and glasses, enable Microphone adjustment (Ray-Ban specifies Meta AI app version 143 or later), and test again. Only after that should you disable the adjustment and unpair and re-pair the glasses. A factory reset is not a first-line fix because it deletes captures stored on the glasses.
What should I check first when Hey Meta is not responding?
Use this order: confirm the glasses are powered and charged, keep the paired phone within Bluetooth range, reduce surrounding noise, verify Voice and Hey Meta are enabled, and run a simple test command. These checks separate a disabled feature or connection problem from a microphone or software fault.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Check power. Turn the glasses on and make sure they have charge. A completely flat battery cannot respond to a wake word.
- Keep the phone nearby. Leave the paired phone within Bluetooth range while testing. Voice features depend on the glasses and phone maintaining that connection.
- Move to a quieter place. Traffic, music, wind, conversation, and other competing sounds can interfere with voice controls.
- Open the Meta AI app. Check the Voice setting and Hey Meta preferences before trying more advanced recovery steps.
- Say one simple command. Use a basic request that you already know the glasses support, then watch and listen for the activation feedback described below.
Do not jump directly to a reset or replacement. Ray-Ban’s support flow puts settings, software, microphone adjustment, and re-pairing ahead of warranty escalation.
How do I enable Voice and Hey Meta in the Meta AI app?
Voice commands will not work if either the general Voice feature or the Hey Meta wake-word preference is disabled. App labels can move as Meta updates its software, but Ray-Ban’s documented paths are the following.

Turn on Voice
- Open the Meta AI app on the phone paired with your glasses.
- Open Settings > Voice. In some app layouts, select your glasses first and then choose Voice.
- Make sure Voice is enabled.
Check the Hey Meta preference
- In the Voice area, open Hey Meta preferences.
- Confirm that Hey Meta is turned on.
- Turn on Wake sound if you want an audible confirmation when the wake word is detected.
After changing either switch, test again rather than changing several unrelated settings at once. If recognition remains inconsistent, turn Voice and Hey Meta off, wait briefly, turn both back on, and run another test. This toggle cycle is specifically included in Ray-Ban’s troubleshooting guidance.
What do the white LED and wake sound tell me?
The activation feedback helps identify where the failure occurs. When the wake word is recognized, the glasses’ notification LED blinks white. If Wake sound is enabled, the glasses also play an audible signal. No feedback generally means the wake word was not recognized; feedback followed by no useful answer points you toward command language, feature availability, connectivity, or a later software step.
| What you observe | What it indicates | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| No white blink and no sound | The glasses did not visibly acknowledge the wake word. | Recheck Voice and Hey Meta, reduce noise, speak again, and then try the off/on toggle. |
| White blink, with Wake sound enabled | The wake word was recognized. | Check whether the request is supported in the current language and whether the phone remains in Bluetooth range. |
| White blink but no completed action | Activation occurred, but the command may be outside the available language or feature scope, or the connection may be unstable. | Try a known supported command, verify language settings, and continue with software and microphone checks if the pattern persists. |
| Intermittent feedback | Recognition is being affected by settings, sound conditions, positioning, or software. | Retest in a quiet place, toggle the settings, update software, and use Microphone adjustment. |
The LED confirms wake-word recognition; it does not guarantee that every request is available in every language or that the requested service completed successfully.
Could language or command type be the reason a voice command fails?
Yes. Ray-Ban distinguishes between general functional commands, Meta AI assistance, and WhatsApp voice commands. A command can fail even when the microphone and wake word are working if it falls outside the language or feature scope stated by Ray-Ban.
| Feature | Language availability stated by Ray-Ban | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Most functional voice commands | English, French, and Italian | Availability still depends on the particular function. |
| Meta AI assistance | English only | A non-English app or spoken language can prevent an AI-assistance request from working. |
| WhatsApp voice commands | English only | The Meta AI app language must be set to English. |
When the LED or wake sound confirms activation but a request does nothing, test a basic function in a supported language before concluding that the glasses’ microphones are defective. For WhatsApp, set the Meta AI app language to English and test again. This is a scope check, not a microphone repair.
How do I update the Meta AI app and the glasses?
Ray-Ban advises using the latest software when voice commands continue to fail. The exact update controls and menu names can change with app releases, so use the current update prompts shown in the Meta AI app for both the phone application and the connected glasses.

Update before microphone adjustment
- Open the Meta AI app and check for an available app update through your phone’s normal app-update mechanism.
- Reconnect the glasses in the app and install any glasses software update it offers.
- Wait for each update to finish before testing. Keep the glasses powered and the phone within Bluetooth range during the process.
- Run the same simple voice test again so you can tell whether the update changed the behavior.
For the documented microphone procedure, Ray-Ban specifies Meta AI app version 143 or above. Treat that number as a dated support requirement rather than a permanent label: future app versions may use different menus, while older versions may not show the troubleshooting control.
How do I use Microphone adjustment?
Microphone adjustment is Ray-Ban’s next documented step for persistent voice-command problems after basic checks and software updates. It is intended to address microphone behavior without immediately erasing the glasses or sending them for service.
- Open the Meta AI app after updating it to version 143 or above.
- Go to Glasses & privacy > Your glasses > Microphone troubleshooting.
- Turn on Microphone adjustment.
- Test another voice command in a quiet environment, with the phone still within Bluetooth range.
- If voice recognition returns, leave Microphone adjustment enabled as Ray-Ban recommends.
- If the command still fails, turn Microphone adjustment off before moving to unpairing and re-pairing.
If you cannot find the menu, first confirm that the app is current and that the correct pair of glasses is selected. Menu wording can shift between releases, but the requirement for version 143 or above belongs to Ray-Ban’s stated procedure.
What should I do if Microphone adjustment does not help?
Disable the adjustment and perform a clean unpair-and-re-pair cycle. Re-pairing refreshes the relationship between the glasses and the Meta AI app without the data-loss consequence of a factory reset.
Before unpairing
- Make sure you know which phone and Meta AI account are paired with the glasses.
- Finish or cancel any update currently in progress.
- Turn Microphone adjustment off if it did not restore voice recognition.
- Keep the glasses charged and the phone close during the entire process.
Unpair and pair again
- Use the Meta AI app’s controls for the connected glasses to remove or unpair them.
- Follow the app’s on-screen instructions to place the glasses back into pairing mode.
- Pair the glasses with the same phone again and allow the app to complete its setup.
- Confirm Voice and Hey Meta are enabled after pairing; settings may need to be checked again.
- Test a supported command and observe the white LED or Wake sound response.
The app’s exact buttons can change, so follow the current labels it displays rather than relying on an older screenshot. If re-pairing restores voice control, leave the working settings in place and avoid a reset.
Should I factory-reset Ray-Ban Meta glasses?
Not as a casual first step. Ray-Ban warns that a factory reset deletes all captures stored on the glasses and requires unpairing and re-pairing afterward. Because the official voice troubleshooting sequence tries settings, software, Microphone adjustment, and re-pairing first, reset should be reserved for a situation where official support specifically directs you to use it or where you have accepted the data loss.

If a reset is unavoidable
- Review the captures stored on the glasses and save anything you need before resetting.
- Expect to unpair and re-pair the glasses after the reset.
- Be prepared to enable Voice and Hey Meta again and repeat the language check.
A reset cannot make an unsupported language or WhatsApp configuration supported. It is a data-erasing recovery action, not a substitute for checking the command’s feature scope.
When should I contact Ray-Ban warranty support?
Escalate after the documented sequence has failed: power and Bluetooth checks, noise reduction, Voice and Hey Meta verification, the off/on toggle, current software, Microphone adjustment, and re-pairing. At that point, repeated failure across supported commands and a quiet environment is evidence that the problem needs official diagnosis rather than more random setting changes.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why do voice commands work sometimes but not others?
Intermittent behavior usually calls for controlled retesting rather than repeated resets. Change one condition at a time and note the result.
Noise and speaking conditions
Test indoors or in another quiet location, away from fans, traffic, music, and overlapping conversation. If recognition improves there, the background sound was masking or confusing the wake word; continue using the glasses in a quieter setting or speak when the noise drops.
Connection distance
Keep the phone within Bluetooth range and avoid walking away from it during the test. If the LED responds but the requested action does not complete, connection stability or command scope may be the problem rather than wake-word detection.

Settings state
Open Voice and Hey Meta preferences after an app update or re-pairing. A setting that was previously enabled may need to be confirmed again, and Ray-Ban specifically recommends toggling both controls off and back on when recognition is inconsistent.
Language and service
Compare a basic supported function with the failing request. Meta AI assistance and WhatsApp voice commands have narrower language requirements than most functional commands, so a difference between those tests can be expected behavior rather than a broken microphone.
What is the shortest safe troubleshooting sequence?
For a quick but complete pass, use the following checklist in order:
- Power on and charge the glasses.
- Keep the paired phone within Bluetooth range.
- Move away from competing background noise.
- In Meta AI, enable Settings > Voice and Hey Meta; enable Wake sound if useful.
- Say a simple supported command and check for the white LED or audible wake signal.
- Toggle Voice and Hey Meta off, then back on, and test again.
- Update the Meta AI app and glasses; use app version 143 or above for the microphone procedure.
- Open Glasses & privacy > Your glasses > Microphone troubleshooting, enable Microphone adjustment, and test.
- If it fails, turn the adjustment off and unpair and re-pair the glasses.
- Submit a Ray-Ban warranty claim if supported commands still fail.
Keep factory reset out of this sequence unless official support tells you to use it or you have backed up captures and accepted that the reset deletes them.

Why does the white LED blink but my request still produces no answer?
The blink confirms that the glasses recognized the wake word, not that the requested service is available. Check whether the request is Meta AI assistance or a WhatsApp action, since both have English-only requirements, and verify that the phone remains within Bluetooth range.
Do I need to leave Wake sound turned on for voice commands to work?
No. Wake sound is an optional audible confirmation. The white notification LED is the other documented activation signal, so you can use the LED alone if you prefer silent operation.
What information should I give support when opening a warranty claim?
Describe whether activation produced a white blink or sound, the language and command type you tested, the Meta AI app version, and whether Microphone adjustment and re-pairing changed anything. This gives support a reproducible sequence instead of only reporting that voice control failed.
Can a factory reset recover captures that were already deleted?
No. Ray-Ban warns that the reset deletes captures stored on the glasses; it is not a recovery tool. Save any needed captures before considering that step.
