The safest way to move to a new iPhone is to use Quick Start for the phone-to-phone data transfer, then complete eSIM Quick Transfer if your carrier supports it. Keep both iPhones updated, nearby, unlocked and connected to power. During setup you can either transfer directly, restore from iCloud, use a Finder, Apple Devices or iTunes backup, or connect the phones with a compatible cable. eSIM Quick Transfer can move your number without a carrier call when eligible; otherwise the carrier must provide activation through a QR code, link, app or manual details. Do not erase the old iPhone until calls, texts, cellular data, photos, messages, authenticator apps and payment cards work on the new one.
What moves to a new iPhone, and what may need attention?
A migration normally brings across your apps, photos, messages, device settings and other content associated with the backup or direct transfer path you select. The new phone also needs your Apple Account credentials during setup, so have the account password available before starting.

Your mobile number is a separate operation from copying data. The eSIM or physical SIM must be activated on the new iPhone through eSIM Quick Transfer or your carrier’s activation process. Data can finish restoring while the cellular plan is still waiting for approval.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
How should I prepare both iPhones before starting?
Make a current backup
Create a fresh iCloud backup, or confirm that a recent backup exists. A backup gives you a recovery path if the direct transfer is interrupted and is required when you plan to restore from iCloud or from a computer. Leave the old phone untouched until the new phone has been checked.
Update software and charge the phones
Install available iOS updates on both devices. Apple’s current eSIM Quick Transfer instructions require iOS 18.4 or later on the relevant iPhones. Charge both phones or keep them connected to power; a large photo or video library can take a long time, and Apple says the duration varies with network conditions and the amount of data.

- Have the Apple Account password and the old iPhone passcode ready.
- Turn on Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth on the old iPhone.
- Disable any setting that might disconnect Wi‑Fi during the move, and keep the phones close together.
- If you use a computer backup, confirm that Finder, Apple Devices or iTunes can see the backup before you begin.
- Find your carrier account login or support details in case eSIM Quick Transfer is unavailable.
Which transfer method should I choose?
Choose direct Quick Start when the old iPhone is present and working. Use iCloud when you want the new phone usable sooner or are relying on a backup, a computer restore when a suitable backup already exists, and a wired transfer when you have a compatible data cable and want a direct connection.
| Method | What you need | What happens | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct Quick Start | Both iPhones, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, nearby and unlocked | Content transfers directly from the previous iPhone during setup | Both devices remain occupied until the transfer finishes |
| iCloud restore | A current iCloud backup and internet access | The new iPhone restores from iCloud; apps and data can continue downloading in the background | The phone may be usable before every app or file has arrived |
| Computer backup | A Finder, Apple Devices or iTunes backup | The new iPhone is restored from the selected computer backup | You must have access to the computer and the correct backup |
| Wired transfer | A compatible data cable for the two iPhone ports | The phones exchange data over the cable during setup | The connector and cable must match both models |
Apple describes the difference this way: “If you download from iCloud, your apps and data download in the background so that you can start using your new device right away.” With direct transfer, “you’ll need to wait for the transfer to complete on both devices before you can use them.”
How do I use Quick Start to transfer data directly?
- Turn on the new iPhone. Place it next to the old iPhone while the old phone is unlocked. The Hello screen should appear on the new device.
- Follow the Quick Start prompt. On the old iPhone, tap the option to set up the new iPhone and confirm that the Apple Account shown is yours.
- Authenticate. Use the old iPhone’s passcode when requested. The new phone may display an animation that you scan with the old phone’s camera.
- Choose the transfer path. Select the option to transfer directly from the previous iPhone if you want a phone-to-phone copy. If you prefer a backup, choose the iCloud option instead.
- Keep the devices together. Leave Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth on, keep both phones near power and do not restart either one while the progress indicator is active.
- Complete setup prompts. Sign in when asked, configure Face ID or Touch ID, review privacy settings and wait for the Home Screen to appear.
Direct transfer requires patience because both phones are committed to the process. There is no universal time estimate: the amount of data and network conditions determine the duration. If the progress display appears unchanged, leave the phones connected and nearby rather than cancelling immediately.
How do I restore the new iPhone from iCloud?
- Start the new iPhone and proceed through the setup screens until the transfer method appears.
- Select the option to download from an iCloud backup.
- Sign in with the Apple Account used for the backup.
- Choose the newest backup by checking its date and size.
- Keep the new iPhone connected to Wi‑Fi and power after setup. Apps, photos and other content can continue arriving in the background.
This path is useful when the old iPhone is not available for a direct transfer or when you need to start using the new phone before every download has completed. Do not judge the restore by the first few minutes after the Home Screen appears; open key apps later and confirm that their content has finished syncing.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
How do I restore from a Finder, Apple Devices or iTunes backup?
- Confirm that the backup on the Mac or PC is current and belongs to the old iPhone.
- Connect the new iPhone to the computer and open Finder on a Mac, Apple Devices on a current Windows setup, or iTunes where that is the installed Apple software.
- Select the new iPhone, choose the restore-from-backup option, and pick the appropriate backup by date.
- Start the restore and keep the iPhone connected until the computer reports completion.
- Reconnect to Wi‑Fi and allow apps and cloud content to synchronize after the restore.
A computer restore is most practical when you already maintain local backups. If the only backup is old, use it as a fallback but expect to repeat any work or downloads created after that backup date.
When is a wired transfer the better choice?
Use a cable when both iPhones have compatible ports and you want a direct data path that does not depend on a wireless connection between the devices. The exact cable depends on the connectors on the two models, so check whether each phone uses Lightning or USB‑C and use a data-capable cable or the appropriate adapter combination.
Connect the phones when the setup assistant offers the wired migration option, then follow the same authentication and transfer prompts as Quick Start. Keep the cable connected until setup reports completion. A charge-only cable will not carry the migration data; if the iPhones do not recognize one another, try a different certified data cable before abandoning the method.
How do I transfer my eSIM during iPhone setup?
If your carrier supports eSIM Quick Transfer, the setup assistant can offer to move the cellular plan from the nearby iPhone. Both phones should be signed in to the same Apple Account, have Bluetooth enabled, be close together and unlocked, and the old phone’s passcode must be available. Apple’s current instructions specify iOS 18.4 or later.

- Confirm the transfer on the old iPhone. Enter its passcode or any verification requested by the setup assistant.
- Wait for activation to finish on the new iPhone. Do not remove the old phone from the area or turn off Bluetooth during this step.
- Check the cellular signal and place a test call after the new phone reaches the Home Screen.
When activation completes on the new iPhone, the previous SIM is deactivated. The old iPhone may still show Wi‑Fi service, but it should no longer provide cellular service for that number.
How do I move an eSIM after setup is finished?
You can start the transfer later if you skipped it during setup or if the cellular prompt did not appear.

- Tap Set Up Cellular or Add eSIM, depending on the screen shown.
- Choose the option to transfer a plan from a nearby iPhone.
- Select the plan, approve the request on the old iPhone and complete the verification prompts.
- Wait for activation, then test a call, text message and cellular data.
If the transfer option is missing, that does not necessarily indicate a hardware fault. eSIM Quick Transfer depends on carrier participation, account eligibility and regional availability.
What should I do when eSIM Quick Transfer is unavailable?
Use the carrier’s approved activation route instead of repeatedly restarting setup. Depending on the carrier and region, that route may be eSIM Carrier Activation, a QR code, a carrier link, a carrier app or manual entry of activation details. A banner reading Finish Setting Up Your Carrier’s Cellular Plan can take you to the carrier’s website or activation flow.

QR code or link
Display the carrier’s QR code on another screen or open the activation link supplied by the carrier. On the new iPhone, use Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM and follow the on-screen instructions. Keep the carrier account information available if an identity check appears.
Carrier app
Install the carrier’s official app from the App Store, sign in to the account that owns the number and select its option to activate or move an eSIM. The app may require a one-time code sent by text or email, so keep access to those channels.
Manual activation
If the carrier supplies a server address, confirmation code or other manual details, enter them exactly as provided under Add eSIM. Do not guess an activation value; an incorrect entry can leave the plan pending and require the carrier to issue new details.
Can I move an eSIM from Android to an iPhone?
Android-to-iPhone eSIM moves generally require carrier involvement. Newer cross-platform transfer support exists in limited situations, but it is not universal across carriers, countries or phone combinations. Ask the carrier for its current activation method and keep the Android phone available for any verification code or approval.
Your iPhone data migration and your number activation are separate. You can restore photos and apps from iCloud or another backup while waiting for the carrier to activate the eSIM.

What should I verify before erasing the old iPhone?
Use the new iPhone for a deliberate acceptance test before handing over, trading in or resetting the old one.
- Cellular service: place an outgoing call, receive a call, send and receive a text, and load a webpage with Wi‑Fi turned off.
- Connectivity: join your usual Wi‑Fi network and confirm Bluetooth accessories can reconnect.
- Personal content: open recent photos, videos, messages, contacts, notes and files.
- Authentication: launch key authenticator, banking, work and password-manager apps and complete any new-device approval.
- Payments: open Wallet and confirm that required payment cards are present or ready to be re-added.
- Accounts: check email, calendars, cloud drives and other services that matter for work or school.
Only after these checks should you erase the old iPhone. Keep any required sign-in or recovery codes until you are certain that every account can be accessed from the new device.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What are the most common transfer problems?
Quick Start does not appear
Unlock the old iPhone, turn on Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth, bring the phones closer and restart the setup process on the new phone. If the old phone is managed by an organization or cannot be updated, use an iCloud or computer backup instead.
The transfer stops or appears frozen
First check power, cable connections if using a wired method, Wi‑Fi stability and available storage on the new iPhone. Because Apple does not publish a universal transfer time, wait longer when the old phone contains a large library. Cancelling too quickly can force you to begin again.
Apps are missing after an iCloud restore
Reconnect the new iPhone to Wi‑Fi and power and allow background downloads to continue. Confirm that you are signed in to the same Apple Account used for the backup, then check the App Store download queue.
The eSIM transfer option is absent
Verify that both phones meet the software, proximity, Bluetooth and Apple Account requirements. If the option still does not appear, use the carrier’s QR code, link, app or manual activation path. Carrier eligibility and geography determine whether Quick Transfer is offered.

Turn Wi‑Fi off and check that the intended line is enabled under Settings > Cellular. Restart the new iPhone if activation recently completed, then contact the carrier if calls work but cellular data remains unavailable.

How long does an iPhone transfer take?
There is no reliable single number of minutes. Apple says transfer time varies with network conditions and the amount of data, so a phone with many videos can take substantially longer than one with mostly contacts and settings. Keep both iPhones near power and do not plan to use either device until a direct transfer finishes. With iCloud, the Home Screen may become usable sooner, but background downloads can continue afterward.
How do I protect my information during the switch?
Use only your own Apple Account and the carrier’s official activation channel. Do not give an activation QR code or account password to someone who is not authorized to manage the line. Keep the old iPhone locked when you are not actively following a setup prompt, and avoid erasing it until the acceptance checks are complete.
After the new phone is confirmed, sign out of services required by your organization, remove the old device from account device lists when appropriate, and then use the iPhone’s erase process before recycling or selling it. The exact account-removal steps can differ for personal and managed devices, so follow your employer or school’s instructions if the phone was supervised.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are some apps asking me to sign in again after the transfer?
Apps can treat the new iPhone as a new trusted device even when their data was restored correctly. Complete each app’s verification process, and use its account-recovery method if the old phone was the only approved authenticator. Keep the old device powered on until those approvals are finished.
Can I transfer my iPhone data without transferring the phone number yet?
Yes. Restore by Quick Start, iCloud or a computer backup first, then activate the cellular plan later from Settings > Cellular. This is useful when a carrier has not yet issued a QR code or when you need the new phone on Wi‑Fi immediately.
What should I do with a physical SIM after moving to eSIM?
Leave the physical SIM in the old phone until you have confirmed service on the new iPhone. Once the carrier confirms the new line is active, remove and securely destroy the old SIM rather than leaving it in a phone you will pass to someone else.
How can I prepare an old iPhone for sale after migration?
After verifying your data and accounts, back up anything still needed, sign out of the Apple Account and disable device-tracking features as prompted, then erase all content and settings. Remove the device from carrier and account-management lists if your carrier or organization requires that additional step.
