The user manual specifies an 85–165° recline range when tilt is unlocked. Lumbar height and curvature use separate knobs, while the armrests provide independent height, front/back, side-to-side, and angle adjustments.
Control map: what each adjustment does
| Part | Control | Movement | Use it to set |
|---|---|---|---|
| Backrest recline | Recline lever | Pull fully upward while the backrest is unweighted, lean to the desired position, then return the lever | Your working or resting back angle |
| L-ADAPT lumbar support | Height knob | Counter-clockwise lowers support; clockwise raises it | Where the support sits vertically on your lower back |
| L-ADAPT lumbar support | Curvature knob | Counter-clockwise reduces the curve; clockwise increases it | How far the support projects toward your back |
| 4D armrest | Height lever | Pull up, move the pad, release to lock | Elbow height relative to the desk |
| 4D armrest | Front button | Press to change angle and front-to-back position; release to lock | Where your forearm rests in relation to the keyboard or mouse |
| 4D armrest | Inner-side button | Press to move the pad side-to-side; release to lock | How closely the armrest follows your shoulder and elbow width |
Prepare the chair before making adjustments
Place the chair on a stable, level surface and clear enough space behind it for the backrest to move. Sit in your normal working posture rather than leaning unusually hard against the chair. Keep both feet supported and let your shoulders drop naturally. This gives you a consistent reference as you change one control at a time.

The order matters because the backrest angle changes the way your pelvis and lower back contact the chair. Set recline before tuning lumbar support, then set the armrests after your torso position is settled. Make only one small change at a time, sit normally for a moment, and assess the result before touching another control.
Secretlab’s usage guidance is about operating the mechanisms safely, not prescribing one universally correct posture. Your preferred settings can differ according to desk height, monitor position, body proportions, and whether you are typing, using a mouse, reading, or resting.

Set the recline angle first
Why recline comes before lumbar and armrest setup
Changing the backrest angle changes the contact point at your lower back and the height at which your elbows meet the desk. If you adjust lumbar support or armrests first, then recline, you may need to redo both. Starting with the backrest gives every later adjustment a stable reference.
Step-by-step recline procedure
- Shift your weight off the backrest. Do not try to move the backrest while pressing your full body weight into it.
- Pull the recline lever fully upward.
- Lean back slowly until the backrest reaches the angle you want. Move gradually so you can stop at a useful position instead of passing it.
- Return the lever slowly to its starting position.
- Remain still for a moment and confirm that the backrest is locked before you rely on it.
The TITAN Evo user manual lists an 85–165° recline range when tilt is unlocked. That figure describes the mechanism’s stated travel; it does not mean every angle is equally suitable for every task.
Choose a working or resting position
For keyboard and mouse work, begin near the upright portion of the range and make small changes until your screen, shoulders, and wrists stay comfortable without you bracing against the backrest. A more open angle can feel better for reading, video viewing, or a break, but move the keyboard, mouse, or other controls with you if leaning back makes you reach forward.

Tune the L-ADAPT lumbar support
Understand the two independent knobs
L-ADAPT has separate controls for height and curvature. The height knob changes the vertical location of the support. The curvature knob changes how pronounced the support feels. They are not interchangeable: turning the height knob will not make the support deeper, and turning the curvature knob will not move it up or down.

Secretlab’s TITAN Evo Usage Guide gives two operating limits: do not put weight on the backrest while adjusting lumbar support, and do not turn either knob past its maximum or minimum point. Turn only one knob at a time. If a knob reaches its stop, stop turning it rather than trying to gain more movement by force.
Set lumbar height
- Lean forward or otherwise unload the backrest so your weight is not pressing into the lumbar mechanism.
- Turn the height knob counter-clockwise to lower the support or clockwise to raise it.
- Make a small change, release the knob, and sit normally against the backrest.
- Check whether the support meets the lower-back area you want supported. If it feels too high or too low, unload the backrest and make another small change.
Use the position of the support on your back as the reference, not the number of turns. Two people can need different heights because their torso lengths differ.
Set lumbar curvature
- Unload the backrest again.
- Turn the curvature knob counter-clockwise to reduce the curve or clockwise to increase it.
- Stop at the first setting that gives noticeable support without making you brace, arch, or push away from the backrest.
- Sit normally and reassess before making another adjustment.
Curvature is a pressure preference as well as a support setting. If the support feels intrusive at the correct height, reduce curvature instead of immediately moving it. If the support location is right but feels absent, increase curvature in a small increment.
Use a deliberate sequence
Adjust height first, then curvature. Once both feel close, lean forward, make one final small change if necessary, and sit back normally. Avoid turning both knobs at once; doing so makes it difficult to tell which change produced a better or worse result and conflicts with the operating guidance.
Position the 4D armrests
Each armrest can be set independently. Work through height, front/back and angle, then side-to-side position. Keep your shoulders relaxed while testing; lifting your shoulders to meet the pads makes a setting appear lower than it really is.

Set armrest height
- Pull up the armrest’s height lever.
- Move the pad to the height at which your forearm can rest while your shoulder stays relaxed.
- Release the lever and check that the pad is locked.
For desk work, start with the pads approximately level with the desk surface, then fine-tune them to your elbow height. The desk itself may not be perfectly level with your keyboard or mouse, so use the position of your forearms rather than the desktop edge as the final reference.

Set front-to-back position and angle
- Press the front button on the armrest.
- Move the pad forward or backward until it supports the part of your forearm you want supported without forcing you to reach.
- While the button is pressed, set the pad angle that lets your wrist and forearm approach the keyboard or mouse naturally.
- Release the button to lock the setting.
The front button controls both angle and front-to-back movement. If the pad is in the right place but your wrist is twisted, change its angle before moving it farther forward or backward.
Set side-to-side position
- Press the button on the inner side of the armrest.
- Move the pad inward or outward so your elbow can remain close to your natural shoulder line without crowding your torso.
- Release the button and test the position with both hands on your normal controls.
Do not assume both sides must have identical settings. Your mouse hand, keyboard position, and preferred working angle can make one armrest more useful slightly forward, inward, or outward than the other.
Bring the armrests into your working position
With the backrest and lumbar support already set, sit at the desk and let your upper arms hang naturally. Raise or lower the pads until your forearms are supported without shrugging. Use front/back and angle adjustments to bring the pads under your forearms rather than pulling your shoulders forward. Use side-to-side movement to avoid pressing your elbows against your ribs.
If you need to move closer to the desk, lower or reposition the armrests instead of forcing your body around them. When you switch to a more reclined or relaxed posture, you may need a different armrest position; use the same controls and release each one to lock after moving it.

Correct an armrest that looks asymmetrical
The aftercare guidance for the TITAN Evo notes that the right armrest may be installed farther outward to accommodate the recline mechanism. An apparent mismatch does not automatically indicate a defect, and the positions of the underside plates do not have to mirror each other.
If the armrests look uneven relative to the chair, compare the pads and the chair shell from above and from your normal sitting position. If a structural correction is needed, use this procedure:
- Remove the adjustment-lever handles.
- Using the supplied Allen key, loosen the three M8 screws underneath the affected armrest.
- Slide the metal plate inward or outward until the armrest sits where it should relative to the chair.
- Retighten all three screws securely.
- Reinstall the adjustment-lever handles and test height, front/back, angle, and side-to-side movement.
Judge the result by how the armrest sits in relation to the chair, not by trying to make the two underside plates occupy identical positions.

For keyboard and mouse work
Lock a mostly upright backrest position first. Set lumbar height and curvature while the backrest is unloaded, then place the armrests so your forearms are supported and your shoulders remain relaxed. Keep the pads close enough to support you without preventing the chair from approaching the desk.

Recline to a more open angle using the stated lever sequence, then reassess lumbar contact. Move the armrests so they support your forearms in the new torso position; a setting that was ideal for typing may now feel too far forward.
Best Value
For short breaks
Use the recline mechanism rather than twisting your torso or forcing the backrest. Keep the lumbar knobs and armrest controls untouched unless the new posture exposes a genuine mismatch. Return the recline lever to the locked position before shifting your weight fully onto the backrest.
Make changes measurable
Keep a simple mental note of which control you changed and in which direction. If the next position feels worse, reverse that one change instead of changing several controls at once. This method is slower than turning every control together, but it identifies your useful settings and makes them easier to reproduce.
Troubleshooting common adjustment problems
The backrest will not move
- Shift your weight off the backrest before operating the lever.
- Pull the recline lever fully upward rather than partially engaging it.
- Lean back or forward slowly while the lever is engaged; abrupt force can make the movement feel stuck.
- If the backrest still does not move, stop forcing the mechanism and contact the manufacturer’s support service.
The backrest moves but does not stay locked
- Return the lever slowly to its normal position after choosing the angle.
- Test the lock with your weight off the backrest, then apply light pressure gradually.
- If it releases unexpectedly after the lever is returned, discontinue use of that position and seek service rather than relying on a partially engaged lock.
The lumbar support feels too high, too low, or too prominent
- Unload the backrest before touching either knob.
- Use the height knob for vertical misalignment and the curvature knob for excessive or insufficient projection.
- Turn only one knob at a time and stop at its end point.
- Sit normally between changes; judging support while leaning forward can give a misleading result.
A lumbar knob reaches its stop
The manual’s instruction is not to turn past the maximum or minimum point. A stop is the limit of that adjustment, not a signal to apply more torque. If the available range does not produce a comfortable position, change your sitting posture or seek assistance instead of forcing the knob.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallAn armrest will not lock after moving
- Release the height lever, front button, or inner-side button completely after positioning the pad.
- Test the pad with light pressure before placing your full forearm on it.
- Check that you are operating the control for the movement you want: the front button handles angle and front/back, while the inner-side button handles side-to-side.
- If a control continues to slip after correct operation, stop leaning on that armrest and contact support.
The armrests appear unequal
First compare the pads from your seated position; the recline mechanism can require the right armrest to sit farther outward. If the chair itself is visibly misaligned, use the three-screw metal-plate procedure rather than trying to force the adjustment buttons to compensate.
Optional accessories are not required for these adjustments
The compatible accessories listed for the TITAN Evo include the Lumbar Pillow Pro, CloudSwap Armrests, replacement casters, and footrests. None is needed to set the built-in recline mechanism, L-ADAPT lumbar support, or 4D armrests. Consider an accessory only when you have identified a specific need that the integrated controls cannot address; installing one should not be a substitute for setting the chair correctly.
Safety and maintenance boundaries
- Unload the backrest before changing lumbar support or operating recline.
- Never force a knob beyond its stop.
- Do not turn both lumbar knobs simultaneously.
- Return each lever or button to its released position so the adjustment can lock.
- When correcting armrest asymmetry, use the supplied Allen key and retighten all three M8 screws after sliding the plate.
- Check the lock after every adjustment before putting full body weight or sustained pressure on the part.
The official TITAN Evo usage video, published July 12, 2021, demonstrates recline, 4D armrests, and four-way L-ADAPT lumbar adjustment. The 2024 user manual supplies the operating limits and the stated recline range. Those materials explain how to operate the chair; they do not establish a medically correct setting for every user.
Final setup check
Your setup is ready when the backrest remains locked at the angle you selected, lumbar height and curvature support the intended lower-back area without forcing you away from the chair, and each armrest supports your forearm with relaxed shoulders. Test the chair in the task you actually perform—typing, mousing, reading, or resting—and make any further change as a single, small adjustment.
