To set up a Mac Studio, connect its power cable, a compatible display, and a keyboard and mouse or trackpad, then press the power button on the back. Setup Assistant will guide you through network access, a new or transferred setup, and account settings. Exact ports and some software options depend on the Mac Studio generation and macOS version.
Before you turn on your Mac Studio
Place the computer on a hard, stable surface with room for air to circulate under and around it. Have these items ready:

- The power cable included with Mac Studio.
- A display and its cable, with any external display power supply it requires.
- A keyboard and a mouse or trackpad. You can use wired devices or compatible Bluetooth accessories.
- A Wi-Fi network, or an Ethernet cable and network connection if you prefer wired internet.
Mac Studio does not include a built-in display, keyboard, or pointing device. If you need peripherals, check their connector requirements and compatibility before buying; Apple does not require a particular brand or model.

1. Connect power
Connect the included power cable to Mac Studio and then to a power outlet.

2. Connect a display
Connect the display to a Thunderbolt port or the HDMI port on the back of Mac Studio. The right cable or adapter depends on the ports available on your specific Mac Studio and display. If the connectors do not match, check both devices’ documentation before choosing a compatible cable or adapter.
3. Connect a keyboard and pointing device
Connect a keyboard and mouse or trackpad. Wired devices can be used if their connectors are compatible. To use a Bluetooth accessory, pair it with the Mac; Apple says Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad can be connected with their cable for pairing and then used wirelessly. Turn on Mac Studio and use Setup Assistant
Press the power button on the back of the computer. Setup Assistant guides you through the initial configuration, including accessibility options, network access, a computer account, and optional Apple Account sign-in or creation. The screens and available options can vary with macOS version, language, and region.
- Choose a language. Follow the on-screen prompts to begin.
- Connect to a network. Select Wi-Fi, or choose Other Network options to use Ethernet if available.
- Choose how to set up the Mac. Set it up as a new Mac, use an iPhone or iPad where offered, or transfer information from another Mac, a Windows PC, a Time Machine backup, or a startup disk.
- Set accessibility options and create a computer account. Follow the prompts to configure accessibility features and create a local account and password.
- Choose account and preference settings. Sign in to or create an Apple Account if you want to, then review later options such as Location Services and Appearance.
Choose a fresh setup or transfer your information
A fresh setup is appropriate if you want to begin with a clean Mac and bring over only selected files later. Choose a transfer if you want to bring information from an existing Mac, Windows PC, Time Machine backup, or startup disk during setup. The source and transfer options shown depend on what you have available.

Transferring data takes additional time, and the duration depends on the amount of information and the transfer method. Apple does not give a universal setup-time estimate. Keep the source device or backup available and follow the prompts until the transfer completes.

When Setup Assistant is finished, wait for the Welcome message that says Mac Studio is ready to use. If something is not working, check the connection involved rather than assuming a particular adapter or port will fit every model:

- The display stays black: Confirm that the display is powered on and that its cable is securely connected to a compatible Thunderbolt or HDMI port. Check the display documentation and Apple’s Mac Studio setup guide for connection guidance.
- A display cable does not fit: Compare the display’s connector with the ports on the back of your Mac Studio. Consult the display documentation and choose a compatible cable or adapter for those exact devices.
- A keyboard, mouse, or trackpad will not connect: Check that a wired connector fits, or use the accessory’s documented pairing method for Bluetooth. For Apple Magic accessories, connect them with their cable to pair before using them wirelessly.
- You cannot join the network: Try Ethernet through Other Network options if you have a working wired connection, or check the Wi-Fi network details and try again.
