Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThere is no single setting that caps every in-game purchase. The right control depends on who processes the payment: a console store, Apple or Google, or the game publisher. Check the purchase prompt or receipt, then choose a monthly limit, approval requirement, purchase restriction, or prepaid balance that covers that payment route.
First, identify where the payment is processed
A game’s own parental controls may not govern a purchase billed by a console or mobile app store. Look at the checkout screen and the receipt to identify the payment provider. Then check the control’s scope: it may cover only one store, publisher service, or supervised account.

- Monthly spending limit: sets a recurring ceiling for a defined period.
- Purchase approval: asks a parent or organizer to approve eligible purchases before they go through.
- Purchase restriction: blocks a defined category of purchases; it is not necessarily a budget.
- Prepaid balance: limits spending to funds already added, but does not reset monthly.
Set a limit or approval on the platform handling the purchase
PlayStation: set a child account’s monthly limit
The child must belong to a PlayStation family. A family manager can set the child’s Monthly Spending Limit in Account Management under Family Management. On PS5, go to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, select the child, then choose Parental Controls > Monthly Spending Limit. On PS4, go to Settings > Parental Controls/Family Management > Family Management, select the child, then open Applications/Devices/Network Features > Monthly Spending Limit. See PlayStation Support’s instructions for setting parental controls.
PlayStation says the limit defaults to zero and child purchases are paid from the family manager’s wallet. If you change a setting while the child is playing, have them sign out and back in for the change to take effect. The PlayStation Family app can also manage spending, funds, balances, and the monthly limit.

Apple: require approval for eligible purchases
Apple’s Ask to Buy is an approval gate, not a monthly dollar cap. On a device signed in to the family organizer account, go to Settings > Family > [child’s name] > Apps & Websites > Restrictions > Ask to Buy, then turn on Require Purchase Approval. Apple notes that age and state, country, or region can affect whether Ask to Buy is on by default or can be disabled. See Apple’s Ask to Buy setup instructions.
Google Play: approve purchases billed through Google Play
Google Play purchase approvals can cover a child’s purchases made through Google Play billing with the family payment method. They do not cover a transaction billed through another system or payment route. Check the checkout screen and receipt to confirm whether Google Play handled the game purchase, then configure approvals using Google Play’s family purchase approval settings.

Nintendo: restrict eShop purchases or use a prepaid balance
A parent or guardian in a Nintendo family group can restrict eShop purchases and automatic renewals for a supervised account. Nintendo describes this as a restriction, not a configurable dollar allowance. To give a fixed budget instead, add a chosen amount using a credit card or Nintendo eShop card; Nintendo says the child can spend only the funds in the eShop balance. That is a finite balance, not a monthly cap. Check region and redemption compatibility before buying a card. For purchases inside smart-device apps, use the device’s own settings. See Nintendo’s purchase restriction guidance, Nintendo’s eShop balance information, and Nintendo’s eShop card guidance.

Epic’s Parental Controls PIN can authorize real-money purchases made using Epic’s payment service. It does not apply to PlayStation, Steam, Xbox, or Nintendo platform payments, or purchases made with in-game currencies such as V-Bucks. Epic also documents a daily $100 threshold for accounts where the player indicates they are under 13: purchases above that amount require a parent or guardian PIN to override. Epic says this threshold applies to purchases processed by Epic across Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys, and the Epic Games Store; it is not a universal game-spending cap. See Epic Games Safety’s parental controls information.

Choose a control that matches the problem
| What you want | Control to consider | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Set a recurring ceiling for a child’s console purchases | PlayStation Monthly Spending Limit | Child family membership; purchases draw from the family manager’s wallet. |
| Review eligible purchases before they happen | Apple Ask to Buy or Google Play purchase approvals | Approval applies only to eligible transactions through that store’s flow. |
| Stop eShop purchases or renewals | Nintendo family-group purchase restriction | This is a restriction, not a set dollar allowance. |
| Give a fixed amount to spend on Nintendo eShop | Prepaid eShop balance | Spending is limited to available balance; it is not a recurring monthly limit. |
| Require a PIN for certain publisher-billed purchases | Epic Parental Controls PIN | Does not cover console-store payments or in-game currency purchases. |
For each game, consider the account eligibility, payment route, and exceptions that matter: subscriptions or automatic renewals, in-game currency, purchases on another device, and physical purchases may not be covered by the same setting. If you want to stop purchases completely, use a purchase restriction where available or remove the relevant payment method; verify the result with the platform’s controls rather than assuming a game-level setting covers every checkout.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
