- Open the webpage in Chrome and wait for the text, images, and other content you need to finish loading. If the page is still fetching data, the PDF can contain an incomplete view.
- Open the print dialog by choosing File > Print, or press Ctrl+P.
- In the destination list, select Save as PDF. On some systems the available PDF destination is presented through the operating system’s print services instead of Chrome’s own label.
- Set the filename and folder. Choose a descriptive name that will still make sense when the file is detached from the original link.
- Review the preview and adjust the page range, layout, paper size, margins, scale, and background graphics when those controls are available.
- Click Save, then open the resulting file from the folder you selected to check it.
A physical printer is unnecessary. The PDF destination writes a file directly to storage, so selecting a printer is only needed when you actually want paper.
Which desktop print settings matter most?
The preview updates as you change these settings, and each can alter pagination or appearance:
- Pages or page range: save all pages or enter only the pages containing the material you need. A range is useful for a long article but can omit a section if the preview’s page numbering differs from the site’s visible scroll position.
- Layout: choose portrait for text-heavy pages and landscape for wide tables, dashboards, or comparison charts.
- Paper size: select the size your reader will use. A different size changes line wrapping and page breaks.
- Margins: default margins are usually safest. Narrow margins fit more content but can make headers, footers, or table edges look cramped.
- Scale: lowering the scale can keep a wide element on one page, but very small text may become difficult to read. Increasing it improves readability at the cost of additional pages or clipped content.
- Background graphics: enable this option when colored panels, shaded headings, or background images carry meaning. Leave it off when you want a simpler, ink-saving document.
- Headers and footers: if shown, turn them off when you do not want the page title, URL, date, or page number added to the PDF. Keep page numbers when the file will be printed or reviewed by others.
Not every Chrome installation exposes every control. The operating system, printer services, page CSS, and the type of destination selected can change which options appear.
How do I print a web page to PDF on a Mac?
Chrome on macOS opens the system print dialog after you choose File > Print or press Command+P. The labels may look different from Windows, but the workflow still ends with a PDF file rather than paper.
- Load the page completely in Chrome.

Can I save a Chrome page as a PDF on Android?
Yes. Android Chrome’s route is More > Share > Print, followed by the system destination Save as PDF. Google Chrome Help describes the final action this way: “To save your print preview as a PDF, tap Save as PDF.”

- Open the webpage in Chrome and wait for the content you want to preserve to load.
- Tap More, the three-dot menu.
- Tap Share, then choose Print from the share options.
- Open the printer or destination selector at the top of the print preview.
- Select Save as PDF.
- Tap the save control, choose the storage location and filename if Android asks for them, then tap Print.
- Use a file manager or the notification shown after saving to open the PDF and verify it.
The word Print in the final step does not mean that paper is produced. With Save as PDF selected, Android writes a PDF file instead of sending the job to a physical printer.
Where does Android put the PDF?
The location picker determines the destination. Depending on the device and Android version, you may be offered internal storage, a downloads folder, cloud storage, or another document provider. Make a deliberate choice rather than relying on an unnamed default; otherwise the file may be difficult to find later. If you cannot locate it, check the location shown in the save dialog and search your file manager for the filename or the newest PDF.
Why does Chrome on iPhone or iPad not show “Save as PDF”?
Current Chrome guidance for iPhone and iPad documents Share > Print through Apple’s AirPrint system. It does not establish a Chrome-specific Save as PDF destination like the one available in desktop Chrome and Android instructions.
- In Chrome, tap Share.
- Choose Print to open the AirPrint interface.
- Select an available AirPrint printer if you intend to print on paper.
If your goal is a PDF file rather than a physical printout, use Safari’s webpage-to-PDF workflow on the iPhone or iPad, or save the page from a computer or Android device. The exact Safari controls can vary by iOS version, so do not assume that a button labeled Save as PDF will appear inside Chrome.

Across all platforms, the output follows print CSS. A page can therefore look different from the scrolling version even when the same URL is used.
How can I make the saved PDF look right?
Do a short preparation and review pass instead of saving the first preview blindly.
Before opening print preview
- Scroll through the page once so lazy-loaded images and sections have a chance to load.
- Expand accordions, tabs, or “read more” sections whose text must appear. A collapsed control may print only its heading, or it may be hidden entirely.
- Sign in if the page requires an account and confirm that the content is visible in the browser before printing.
- Close transient pop-ups, cookie banners, chat panels, and video overlays that could cover text in the print rendering.
- For a page that changes continuously, copy the URL and note the date separately; the PDF is a snapshot of what was rendered at save time.
While viewing the preview
- Check the first page for a missing title, oversized blank area, or clipped image.
- Check a page containing a table or code block. Wide content often needs landscape orientation or a smaller scale.
- Check the final page for orphaned lines, a cut-off paragraph, or an unexpectedly large blank section.
- Turn on background graphics only when the design’s color or shading communicates information.
- Use a page range when advertisements, navigation, or unrelated sections make the document unnecessarily long.
After saving
- Open the PDF in a viewer and test text selection or search. This confirms that text was rendered as text rather than disappearing as an image.
- Inspect images at normal zoom, especially diagrams near page boundaries.
- Confirm that the file opens from the chosen folder before deleting the original bookmark or link.
- When sharing sensitive material, check the filename, visible URL, account name, and any headers or footers for information you did not intend to disclose.
What should I do if “Save as PDF” is missing?
A missing destination usually means the print dialog is showing a different printer or that the operating system’s print service is unavailable. Work through these checks in order.
- Open the destination or printer selector rather than accepting the currently selected physical printer. On Android this is the selector at the top of the print preview; on desktop it is the destination list.
- Look for a PDF destination, a PDF button, or an operating-system option to save the print job as a PDF. The wording differs by platform.
- Cancel and reopen the print dialog if the list is empty or still loading.
- Check the device’s print services. A disabled or unavailable system print service can remove destinations that normally appear.
- On Android, ensure you reached More > Share > Print rather than a different share target, then tap the current printer name to reveal alternatives.
- On iPhone or iPad, do not assume that installing a printer will create a Chrome PDF destination. Use Safari or another device for a file-based workflow.
Destination availability varies by device, operating-system version, and installed print services, so two computers running Chrome can show different lists.

Why is the PDF blank, incomplete, or badly paginated?
The page is blank or missing text
Wait for the page to finish loading and make sure the text is visible before opening print preview. Pages built almost entirely from scripts can print before their data arrives. Reload the page, allow the content to settle, and try again. If the site intentionally hides content from print, Chrome cannot force that element into the PDF through ordinary print settings.
Images or charts are absent
Scroll until lazy-loaded images appear, then reopen preview. Enable background graphics when the missing visual is a CSS background rather than a normal image. Some interactive charts have no printable equivalent; capture the visible data in a separate document only when you have permission to do so.
Text is cut off at the right edge
Switch to landscape, reduce the scale, choose a larger paper size, or use narrower margins. Check the preview after each change because a fix for width can make body text too small or create additional pages.

Headings and paragraphs split awkwardly
Try a different scale or margin setting and inspect the page range. Print CSS controls where breaks occur, so Chrome may not be able to keep every heading with the paragraph that follows. If the page offers a reader or print view, use that version before printing.
Links or buttons do not work in the PDF
PDF output is a static print representation. Menus, form controls, animations, and other interactive behavior may be removed or represented only by their visible label. Keep the original URL when the recipient needs to interact with the page.
How do I save only part of a webpage?
On desktop and Android, use the print preview’s page range after checking where the desired section begins and ends. Web pages do not map one-to-one to browser scroll positions, so identify the correct PDF page numbers in the preview rather than guessing from the amount of content on screen.
If the section is inside an expandable panel, open it before printing. If unrelated navigation or advertising is consuming pages, a site’s print view or reader view may produce a cleaner result than trying to remove elements after the PDF is created.
What are the privacy and file-management considerations?
A saved PDF can contain more identifying information than the visible article text. Depending on the print settings, it may include the page URL, document title, date, account name, comments, or other headers and footers.
- Review headers and footers before saving or sharing.
- Choose a folder with appropriate access controls, especially on a shared computer or a device synchronized to cloud storage.
- Use a neutral filename when the URL or page title contains personal information.
- Open the file from the selected folder before removing the source page from your browser history or bookmarks.
- Remember that a PDF is a separate copy. It will not update when the webpage changes, and it can continue circulating after the original page is edited or removed.
