To revoke an AI agent safely, remove its authorization in the account that supplied your data, disconnect the account inside the AI service, disable the agent’s device permissions, and end active sessions or tokens. These are separate controls: turning off Contacts access on an iPhone does not remove a Google OAuth grant, and changing an AI app’s permission may not disconnect the provider account. After access is stopped, review chats, uploaded files, memories, exports and activity logs. Revocation prevents new access; it may not erase information the agent already copied, so request deletion from the AI vendor or developer and use the provider’s own deletion tools.
What does revoking an AI agent’s access actually do?
Revocation blocks future requests made with a particular authorization, permission or session. It does not automatically undo actions already taken or erase copies that were stored elsewhere. Treat access as a chain with several links: the cloud provider’s OAuth consent, the AI service’s connected-account record, local device permissions, and active sessions or tokens.

Remove every authorization layer that applies to your setup rather than relying on one switch.
- Provider authorization: Google, Apple, Microsoft or a social network can issue the OAuth grant that lets an app call account APIs.
- AI-service connection: The agent may keep a separate record of which provider account or workspace it can use.
- Device permission: iOS and other operating systems can independently allow Contacts, Calendars, Photos, Microphone, Files, Messages or notifications.
- Session and token state: Existing browser sessions, refresh tokens or device sessions can remain active until revoked or expired.
Removing one layer can leave another intact. Work through all four, then verify that requests and sessions have stopped.

How do I revoke an AI agent’s access to Google data?
Google’s linked-app controls cover services such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Photos and Contacts. Use the Google Account security or connected-app page associated with the account the agent used.
- Sign in to the relevant Google Account and open its security or connected-app controls.
- Select the AI agent, browser extension, automation, plug-in or integration.
- Review the listed scopes. Look for access to mail, files, calendars, photos, contacts or other data.
- Choose the control to remove the app’s access and confirm.
- Record the date and account you changed, especially if you have personal and work Google accounts.
Google states that you can remove access to your Google Account at any time. Removal stops the app from making new requests with that authorization. It does not guarantee deletion of data the app previously copied; ask the developer to erase those copies and use any deletion controls in the AI service.
If the agent appears more than once, remove each entry. A browser extension, mobile app and automation may have separate grants even when they use the same brand or login. Check every Google account and workspace you connected.
How do I disconnect an AI agent from Apple iCloud and an iPhone?
Apple has an account-level control for third-party access to iCloud Mail, Calendar and Contacts, plus independent privacy controls on each iPhone or iPad.
Remove the Apple Account authorization
- Sign in at
account.apple.com. - Choose Sign-In and Security, then Account Data Sharing.
- Select the app or service that has access to iCloud Mail, Calendar or Contacts.
- Choose Remove access and confirm.
Apple says that after authorization is revoked, the app cannot access the data again unless you authorize it again. This applies to the account grant; it does not delete information the service already downloaded.
Turn off local iPhone permissions
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Choose Contacts, Calendars, Photos, Microphone or another relevant category.
- Find the AI app and switch its access off. Repeat for every category it does not need.
Use App Privacy Report to inspect permission use and network activity. A local permission change can stop an app from reading data on that device even if an older cloud authorization still exists, so complete both Apple steps.

How do I revoke an AI app’s Microsoft work or school access?
For a Microsoft work or school account, use the Microsoft My Apps portal. The portal distinguishes permissions you personally granted from permissions approved by an administrator.
- Open My Apps and select the AI application.
- Review the permissions listed for your account.
- Choose Revoke Permissions for permissions you granted yourself.
- Confirm, then test the app to make sure the connection no longer works.
You cannot revoke administrator-consented permissions as an individual user. Contact your work or school administrator and identify the application, account and scopes that should be removed. Removing a permission can break the application’s functionality for you or other users, so document what was changed and why.
If you have both personal and organizational accounts, repeat the review in each tenant. A successful removal in one account does not change consent in another.
How do I disconnect a connected account inside an AI service?
Disconnect the provider account in the AI service after removing the provider-side authorization. In ChatGPT, app permissions control when an available action can run, but changing that setting does not itself disconnect the provider account or revoke access already granted.

- Choose Apps or Plugins, depending on the interface label.
- Select the connected app and the provider account it uses.
- Choose Disconnect and confirm.
- Repeat in each personal account, team, organization or workspace where the connection appears.
Disconnecting stops future access through that account. It does not automatically delete existing or archived conversations, saved files, Memory summaries or other saved memories. Handle those records separately in the AI service, then use the provider’s deletion controls where applicable.
Do not confuse an action toggle with a connection status. A permission that prevents an agent from running an action today can leave the underlying account authorization available for a later change. Look for an explicit disconnected state.

How do I revoke access from social and messaging accounts?
Open the social or messaging service’s connected-app page and its active-session page. X’s guidance illustrates the possible scope: a third-party app may read posts, access Direct Messages or act on your behalf.
- Open the service’s Apps and sessions (or equivalent) settings.
- Select the AI agent or integration and revoke it.
- Log out active sessions associated with the app or unfamiliar devices.
- Inspect account activity for messages, posts, follows, settings changes or other actions you did not authorize.
- If the connection was suspicious, change the account password and enable stronger sign-in protection.
Revoking a session can stop further actions without deleting data cached on a device. Ask the service or developer what records remain and remove them from the agent’s dashboard, your account, or both.
What is the safest order for revoking an AI agent?
Use this sequence so that you close the source authorization, the AI connection and the local paths without overlooking sessions or retained data.
- Inventory connections. List every AI agent, browser extension, automation, plug-in and integration. Include personal and work accounts, mobile and desktop installations, and duplicate entries for the same service.
- Remove provider authorization. In Google, Apple, Microsoft or the relevant social service, revoke the OAuth or linked-app grant. Record the account and date.
- Disconnect inside the AI service. Remove each connected account and workspace. Confirm that the connection status is disconnected.
- Disable device permissions. On phones and computers, turn off Contacts, Calendars, Photos, Microphone, Files, Messages and notification access that the agent does not need.
- End sessions and rotate credentials. Sign out active sessions, revoke tokens where the service offers that control, and change any password that was ever shared with the agent. Enable stronger sign-in protection.
- Review retained data. Check conversations, uploads, memories, exports and provider activity logs. Request deletion of information already copied.
- Reconnect narrowly, if necessary. Grant only the minimum scopes, prefer read-only access, and keep approval prompts enabled for sending messages, changing records or modifying account settings.
Does revoking access delete what an AI agent already copied?
No. Revocation generally prevents future access; it is not a guaranteed erasure command. A service may already hold message text, contact details, calendar entries, uploaded files, generated summaries, exports, logs or memories created from the connection.
After revoking, inspect the AI service for conversation history, archived chats, saved files, Memory summaries and other saved memories. Delete those items using the service’s controls. Then contact the AI vendor or integration developer and request deletion of data copied from your provider account. Ask whether backups, cached copies or shared workspace records have separate retention periods.
Also review the original provider. Google, Apple, Microsoft and social services may retain their own activity records even after an app grant is removed. Delete records there when the account offers a relevant control. Keep a written record of requests and dates so you can follow up if the vendor reports a different retention status.

How can I verify that the agent no longer has access?
Verification should test each layer rather than relying on a confirmation banner.
- Reopen the provider’s connected-app list and confirm the agent is absent or marked revoked.
- Check the AI service’s Apps or Plugins page in every account and workspace for a disconnected status.
- Review phone privacy settings and App Privacy Report for recent Contacts, Calendar, Photos, Microphone or network activity.
- Inspect active sessions and sign-in logs for the agent’s devices or locations; end anything that remains.
- Watch for new messages, posts, calendar changes, contact edits or file activity that would indicate a still-active token.
- Attempt a harmless connection test only if necessary, using a test account or read-only scope. Do not reconnect your primary data merely to prove that revocation worked.
Some dashboards update slowly. If an entry persists, sign out, refresh the page and check again from the provider’s own security area rather than only the AI service.
What should I do if the connection was suspicious?
Prioritize containment over investigation. Revoke the provider grant, disconnect the AI service, end active sessions, change the password if it was exposed, and enable stronger sign-in protection. Then review account activity for unauthorized reads or actions.
Preserve useful evidence before deleting everything: note the app name, account, scopes, device, timestamps and any unexpected messages or changes. If the account is managed by an employer or school, report the incident to the administrator because administrator-consented permissions cannot be removed by an individual user. Ask the AI vendor or developer to confirm what data was received and to delete it.

If messages were sent or records changed, tell affected contacts or teammates when appropriate and correct the changes at the source account. Revoking access stops additional actions but cannot retract a message already delivered or restore an overwritten record.
How should I reconnect an AI agent without restoring excessive access?
Reconnect only after you know which feature you need. Select the narrowest scopes, prefer read-only access, and keep high-impact actions behind explicit approval.
- For a scheduling assistant, allow calendar visibility needed for availability rather than full account management.
- For contact lookup, grant contacts access only if the feature cannot work from manually supplied information.
- For messaging, disable send or delete actions unless you actively need them.
- For files, share a specific folder instead of an entire drive when the provider supports that choice.
- Use a separate account or workspace for experiments so a failure cannot expose your primary history.
Recheck the scopes after authorization. Save a screenshot or written record of what you approved, and set a reminder to review connected apps periodically.

Why can an AI agent still appear after I revoke it?
A visible entry does not always mean usable access. It may be a stale listing, a second authorization under another account, an active session that was not ended, or an administrator-controlled grant. Check the provider’s own security page, the AI service’s connected-account list and active sessions separately.
If the app continues to read or act, revoke every duplicate grant, end all sessions, rotate credentials and contact the administrator or developer. Keep the date and screenshots of each change for support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an AI agent regain access after I revoke it?
Yes, but it normally needs a new authorization or a still-active grant you missed. Recheck personal, work and shared accounts, and avoid approving a reconnect prompt unless the requested scopes are necessary.
Does deleting the AI app from my phone revoke its cloud access?
Not necessarily. Uninstalling an app does not replace provider-account revocation, AI-service disconnection or session termination, so complete those controls explicitly.

How do I find AI connections I no longer remember approving?

Can my employer remove an AI integration I cannot revoke?
Yes. Microsoft work or school permissions granted by an administrator must be removed by that administrator. Give the administrator the app name, account, requested scopes and the date you noticed the connection.
