Revoke access at the same place it was granted. Disconnect a personal 1Password for Agents connector in the AI agent’s settings; revoke an OAuth integration or bearer token from 1Password.com; remove a service account’s vault assignment or app permission for a business vault; and suspend or delete a team-member identity running the agent. Then rotate any passwords, API keys, or sessions the agent may have used. Revocation stops future authorized access, but it cannot retrieve information the agent already viewed, copied, or sent elsewhere.

Which revocation method should you use?

The correct control depends on the credential or identity behind the agent. Disconnecting a connector affects that connector’s approved login requests, while an OAuth revocation invalidates every token issued to that application’s client credentials. Removing a vault permission is narrower than deleting the identity that holds it.

Where access was granted Revocation point Typical scope Reversible? Follow-up
Personal 1Password for Agents connector Connected agent application Approved login requests for that connector Usually; reconnecting can restore the integration Confirm pending requests disappear
OAuth application or security-automation integration 1Password.com > Integrations All access tokens generated with that client’s credentials Issue new credentials and reconnect Stage replacement credentials first if automation must continue
Business-vault app or browser-extension permission Vaults > selected vault > App access > Manage Apps allowed to use that vault Yes, by restoring the permission Review member, group, and service-account assignments
Service account Service-account assignment and its integration credential Resources assigned to that service account Disablement is reversible; deletion depends on your administration process Disable or remove the assignment, then revoke the credential
Team-member identity Member details Every vault and item available to that identity Suspension is temporary; deletion is permanent Inspect activity and rotate exposed secrets
Bearer token, such as Events Reporting Integration’s token settings Whatever the token authorizes Generate a replacement token Replace downstream configuration before revoking when uptime matters

How do I disconnect a personal 1Password for Agents connection?

Disconnect it in the AI agent application, not by deleting random vault items. 1Password describes the personal agent connection as opt-in: the agent can request a login for a task, but it cannot approve its own request or browse information stored in your vault.

  1. Open the AI agent application that is connected to 1Password.
  2. Open its Integrations or Connectors settings.
  3. Select the 1Password connection and choose Disconnect.
  4. Confirm the disconnect when prompted.
  5. Start or review a task that previously used the connection and verify that pending or previously approved login requests no longer appear.

1Password Support says, “Disconnecting removes existing approved login requests and stops the agent from continuing to use the integration to sign in.” That makes disconnecting the appropriate first action when the concern is a personal connector rather than a company-wide identity.

What this connection does not grant

Connecting an agent does not, by itself, hand the agent a copy of your entire vault. The documented flow lets the agent ask for a login while you retain approval control. Disconnecting removes the approved requests associated with that integration, but it does not undo a password that the agent may already have submitted to a website.

Availability can change

1Password says 1Password for Agents is currently supported with Muse by Meta and that availability may change. If the menu names differ, use the current integration or connector controls in the agent application rather than assuming that a missing option means the account is safe.

How do I revoke an OAuth application or security-automation integration?

Revoke the application in 1Password.com. This invalidates all access tokens generated with that application’s client credentials, so it is broader than disconnecting one approved login request.

  1. Sign in to 1Password.com with an account that can manage integrations.
  2. Select Integrations in the sidebar.
  3. Select the active OAuth application or security-automation integration.
  4. Choose Revoke integration.
  5. Enter your account password and confirm.

1Password Support defines the result precisely: “Revoking an OAuth application removes it from your active integrations and revokes all access tokens generated with those client credentials.” Existing tokens should therefore be treated as unusable after confirmation.

How to avoid interrupting a replacement automation

If a collector, script, or agent must continue operating, create or issue replacement credentials and update the downstream system first. Test the replacement, then revoke the old integration. For a suspected compromise, containment takes priority: revoke immediately, then rebuild the automation with new credentials and investigate the old one’s activity.

What to check after revocation

  • Confirm the application no longer appears among active integrations.
  • Check the automation’s logs for authentication failures, which show that old tokens are no longer accepted.
  • Look for another integration or service account that may provide the same agent with a separate path.

How do I remove an AI agent from a business vault?

Business administrators should remove the narrowest permission that stops the agent, then disable its credential if it uses a service account. A vault permission, app permission, and service-account assignment are separate controls; changing one does not automatically remove the others.

Restrict app access to a vault

  1. Sign in to 1Password.com.
  2. Open Vaults and select the affected vault.
  3. Choose App access > Manage.
  4. Restrict or remove the 1Password apps or browser extension that the agent uses.
  5. Save the change and verify that the agent can no longer request the vault through that app.

The vault-management area also exposes service-account access. Use the ellipsis menu beside a person or group to remove or reduce permissions. The Manage Vault permission includes the ability to grant and revoke vault access, so assign it only to administrators who need that control.

Disable a service account and its credential

  1. Identify the service account associated with the agent or automation.
  2. Disable the account or remove its assignment to the affected vault.
  3. Revoke the integration credential used by the agent.
  4. Check other vault assignments and integrations before re-enabling anything.

1Password’s agentic-AI guidance describes scoped credentials and service accounts that can be disabled in real time. Removing the vault assignment limits data access; revoking the credential prevents the same secret from being reused through another path.

Choose the smallest effective scope

If the agent needs one vault, remove that vault assignment rather than deleting the entire service account. If the same identity has access to several vaults, inspect each assignment: revoking one vault does not imply that access to the others has ended.

What if the agent is using a team-member identity?

Use suspension for an emergency stop that you may need to reverse, and deletion when the identity must be permanently removed. A member identity can carry all of the vault and item permissions assigned to that person, so its scope may be much wider than a single connector.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Temporary emergency stop

  1. Open the team member’s details in the administration console.
  2. Choose the control to Suspend the member.
  3. Confirm the suspension.
  4. Review active sessions, integrations, and recent activity while the account is blocked.

Suspension is the reversible option. It stops the identity without discarding its configuration, which is useful while you determine whether the agent was misconfigured or compromised.

Permanent removal

  1. Open the member’s details.
  2. Select More Actions > Delete.
  3. Confirm the deletion only after exporting or documenting anything your organization must retain.

1Password states that deleting the account permanently revokes its access to vaults and items. Re-creating a member later creates a new identity; it does not restore the old identity’s credentials.

How do I revoke a bearer token?

Revoke the token in the integration that issued it. For Events Reporting, 1Password documents a gear button beside the token and a Revoke command.

  1. Open the relevant integration under Integrations.
  2. Find the bearer token and select its gear button.
  3. Choose Revoke and confirm.
  4. Update or stop every collector that used the token.

If a downstream collector must remain online, issue a replacement token and install it before revoking the old one. Treat the old token as exposed if it appeared in logs, environment variables, tickets, or agent prompts; remove those copies and rotate any related credentials.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What does revocation stop, and what can it not undo?

Revocation blocks future authorized use of the connector, token, identity, or vault permission. It cannot erase information that the agent already read, copied, submitted to a website, placed in logs, or sent to another service.

Why read access can be removed server-side

1Password explains that read access is tied to vault cryptographic keys and that revoking read access is enforced by the server. Once the permission or identity is revoked, subsequent requests should fail even if the agent still has an old local configuration.

Why shared data cannot be recalled

1Password’s business-security guidance puts the limitation plainly: “After something has been shared, it cannot be unshared.” A disconnect therefore is not a data-erasure operation. Treat any information the agent could have viewed as potentially copied until you establish otherwise.

Containment checklist after suspected exposure

  • Review audit and Events Reporting data for sign-ins, vault reads, token use, and administrative changes.
  • Rotate website passwords that the agent used or could have retrieved.
  • Replace API keys, SSH keys, recovery codes, and other secrets that may have been exposed.
  • Invalidate downstream web sessions so a previously authenticated browser or API client cannot continue operating.
  • Inspect actions taken by the signed-in account, including password changes, purchases, data exports, and new integrations.
  • Preserve relevant logs and timestamps for your incident record.

What order should I use when I need both continuity and containment?

The safest order depends on whether you are replacing a healthy integration or responding to active misuse. Planned replacement favors continuity; suspected compromise favors immediate containment.

Situation Recommended order Reason
Routine migration or credential rollover Issue replacement credential, update and test the consumer, then revoke the old integration or token Reduces automation downtime while retiring the old secret
Unknown or suspicious agent activity Disconnect, revoke, suspend, or remove access immediately; then rotate credentials and invalidate sessions Stops additional authorized requests before rebuilding service
Unclear access path Check integrations, vault app access, service accounts, tokens, and member identities; disable the active paths you find Prevents a second credential from keeping the agent connected

Do not rely on password rotation alone when an OAuth token, bearer token, or member identity is still valid. Conversely, revoking access without rotating a website password leaves the secret usable through any other channel where it was copied.

How can I verify that the agent is really disconnected?

Verification should test the exact path you revoked and look for alternate paths. A green status badge in an agent interface is not proof that every token or identity has been disabled.

  1. Repeat the action that previously required 1Password and confirm that no new login request is created.
  2. Check the active-integrations list and confirm the OAuth application is absent after revocation.
  3. Review the vault’s App access and member or group permissions for another app or identity with equivalent access.
  4. Confirm the service account is disabled or unassigned and that its integration credential has been revoked.
  5. Check audit or Events Reporting records for attempts after the revocation time.
  6. Test rotated website credentials and invalidate sessions that predate the incident.

If activity continues, stop treating it as a single disconnected connector. Look for a second token, a cached downstream session, a different service account, or a team-member identity with overlapping permissions.

How should you design agent access so revocation is safer?

Use separate, narrowly scoped identities and credentials for agents instead of sharing a human account. Give each automation only the vaults and operations it needs, keep app access restricted, and document which integration owns each token.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Prefer a dedicated service account for automation that must run unattended.
  • Keep credentials scoped to the required vaults rather than granting broad organization access.
  • Record token owners, creation dates, consumers, and replacement procedures.
  • Separate production and test integrations so a test agent cannot reach production secrets.
  • Review group membership and vault permissions when an agent’s purpose changes.
  • Maintain a written emergency sequence: disconnect or revoke, suspend the identity if necessary, rotate secrets, invalidate sessions, and review logs.

These controls make the revocation point obvious and reduce the chance that deleting one connector leaves a hidden credential active elsewhere.

What are the most common revocation mistakes?

Revoking the wrong layer

Disconnecting a personal connector does not revoke an organization-wide OAuth application, and removing a vault permission does not invalidate a bearer token. Map the agent to its connector, application, token, vault assignment, and identity before deciding that the incident is closed.

Forgetting downstream sessions

An agent may have already signed in to a website or API. Revoking 1Password access does not log that external service out; invalidate sessions and rotate the external credential when exposure is possible.

Deleting before preserving evidence

Permanent member deletion can remove the easiest way to correlate later activity with the identity. When circumstances permit, suspend first, preserve audit data, and document the incident before choosing deletion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Breaking an automation without a replacement

Revoking a token immediately can stop a legitimate collector or deployment. For planned changes, stage and test replacement credentials first; for suspected compromise, accept the interruption and rebuild from clean credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell whether an AI agent used OAuth, a token, or a team-member account?

Start with 1Password.com’s Integrations list, then inspect the affected vault’s App access and service-account assignments. If neither identifies the connection, review member activity and the agent’s deployment configuration for a bearer token or human account. Mapping each credential to its consumer prevents you from revoking only one of several parallel paths.

Does revoking vault access delete the passwords and documents in that vault?

No. Revocation changes who or what can read the vault; it does not delete the vault’s items. Administrators can restore an appropriate permission later, although any secrets believed to be exposed should still be replaced.

What should I do if the agent keeps acting after I revoked its 1Password access?

Invalidate sessions and API credentials at the websites or services the agent used, then check for another token, service account, app permission, or member identity. Preserve timestamps and audit records, and suspend the associated member while you investigate. Continued activity usually indicates a credential or session outside the revoked path.

Should I rotate website passwords before or after disconnecting the agent?

For suspected misuse, disconnect or revoke first so the agent cannot obtain another login, then rotate passwords and API keys and invalidate sessions. During a planned migration, you can stage replacement credentials before revocation to avoid downtime, provided the old path is not suspected of being compromised.
