If an Etsy listing misrepresents what buyers will receive, report the specific listing while signed in: open it, select Report this item to Etsy, choose I don’t think it meets Etsy’s policies, select the closest reason, add a factual explanation, and submit. In the Etsy app, press and hold the listing image in search results or use Report this item at the bottom of the listing. Report an entire shop from its homepage with Report this shop to Etsy. Suspected copyright, trademark, patent, or other intellectual-property infringement belongs in Etsy’s separate Reporting Portal, which is reserved for the rights owner or an authorized representative.
AI involvement alone is not proof of a violation. Etsy permits some seller-prompted AI work when the seller contributes original creative input and discloses AI use. Your report is strongest when it identifies a concrete mismatch with Etsy’s rules, preserves the listing evidence, and explains the problem without guessing about the seller’s motives.

How do I report a misleading Etsy listing on Etsy.com?
Use the listing-level report for one item that appears deceptive, inaccurately represented, or otherwise contrary to Etsy policy. You must be signed in to submit it.
- Copy the listing URL and note the listing ID and shop name before you begin.
- Open the listing on Etsy.com.
- Select Report this item to Etsy.
- Choose I don’t think it meets Etsy’s policies.
- Pick the reason that most closely describes the problem.
- Enter a short, factual note describing the exact mismatch or policy concern.
- Submit the report and keep your screenshots and notes for your records.
Describe what a buyer can verify from the page: for example, a generated scene depicts a feature the delivered object cannot have, the description promises a handmade process that the photographs contradict, or the listing omits a required AI disclosure. Avoid conclusions about who made the item or why the seller used a particular image unless the listing itself establishes that fact.

Where is the report button in the Etsy app?
The app provides two ways to start a listing report. From search results, press and hold the listing image, then choose the reporting option. From an open listing, scroll to the end and tap Report this item. Continue through the policy reason and explanation screens, then submit.
Capture the listing before reporting if the page may change. Save the title, description, every image, price, personalization language, shipping promise, and any statement about AI. A report should point reviewers to evidence that was visible when you submitted it.
How do I report an entire Etsy shop?
Use a shop-level report when the concern involves a pattern across the seller’s storefront rather than one isolated listing. Open the shop homepage and select Report this shop to Etsy. Choose the concern, explain the pattern with specific examples, and submit.
Include the URLs or IDs of representative listings in your explanation when the form allows it. Keep the report focused: identify what is repeated, which Etsy policy appears relevant, and what a reviewer can see. If only one listing is problematic, a listing-level report is the more precise route.

Do not use the intellectual-property portal simply because an image looks AI-generated. That portal is a legal notice process for people who own the relevant right or are authorized to act for the owner.

Is AI-generated content automatically prohibited on Etsy?
No. Etsy allows seller-prompted AI creations when the seller supplies original prompts or other creative input and discloses AI use in the listing description. Etsy’s stated wording is: “Seller-prompted AI creations must disclose the use of AI.” The existence of an AI-assisted image is therefore not, by itself, a complete policy violation.
AI practices Etsy prohibits
Etsy prohibits bot-generated content, AI-generated functional instructions such as patterns, recipes, and manuals, and bundles of AI prompts. If a listing sells or includes one of these prohibited forms, identify the specific content and category in your report rather than making a general accusation that the seller used AI.
When an AI image can be misleading
A listing can mislead buyers when its imagery or wording creates an inaccurate impression of the physical item. Examples include an AI scene that adds impossible construction details, hides defects, changes the scale or materials, or depicts a finished product that differs materially from what the seller ships. A missing AI disclosure can also matter where Etsy requires disclosure for the type of seller-prompted creation shown.
What does Etsy require for listing photos?
Etsy’s current image guidance says listing photos must accurately represent what the buyer will receive. Listings must include at least one unedited photograph of the actual item against a real background, subject to Etsy’s stated exceptions. A polished mock-up or generated lifestyle scene may not substitute for that required view when the exception does not apply.

In your note, distinguish a normal enhancement from a material misrepresentation. A brighter crop is different from an image that invents texture, changes the product’s shape, or shows accessories that are not included. Quote or describe the exact promise a buyer would rely on, then explain how the visible evidence conflicts with it.
How should I document a suspicious listing before reporting it?
Collect the evidence while it is still available. Use this checklist:
- Copy the complete listing URL, listing ID, and shop name.
- Take screenshots of the title, description, all listing photos, price, personalization fields, processing and shipping promises, and any AI disclosure.
- Record the exact mismatch: for example, a generated room scene shows a feature the item cannot contain, the photographs conceal a flaw, or a “handmade” claim conflicts with visible mass-produced characteristics.
- Save relevant messages or order details if you purchased the item and the delivered product differs from the listing.
- If the concern is intellectual-property infringement, identify the work or mark allegedly copied and gather ownership or authorization records for the portal.
Keep original files and note the date you captured them. Do not edit screenshots in a way that removes context. Etsy reviewers need to see the listing as a buyer saw it, including disclosures and qualifying language.
How do I write an effective explanation?
A useful report is short, specific, and tied to an Etsy rule. State what appears on the page, what a buyer would reasonably infer, and why the representation may violate policy.

- Identify the evidence: name the image, sentence, or claim and include the listing URL or ID.
- Explain the mismatch: describe the concrete difference between the advertised item and what the seller appears able to provide.
- Name the concern: connect the facts to inaccurate representation, missing disclosure, prohibited AI-generated functional content, or another specific Etsy policy issue.
For example: “The first and second photos show a generated interior with three-dimensional lettering and a metal clasp. The materials and dimensions in the description describe a flat paper print, and no clasp is included. The listing does not disclose AI use. Please review whether these images accurately represent the item buyers receive.” This is more useful than “This seller is scamming people with fake AI.”

Do not speculate about the seller’s identity, nationality, intent, or software. Do not submit repeated reports for the same conduct or debate a flagged listing in Etsy community spaces.

Use the Etsy Reporting Portal for suspected copyright, trademark, patent, or other intellectual-property infringement. The portal is not a general-purpose complaint form: the reporter must be the rights owner or an authorized representative.
- Open the Etsy Reporting Portal and register the intellectual-property right at issue.
- Provide the requested ownership information or authorization details.
- Add the infringing listing URLs or listing IDs.
- Review the notice for accuracy and submit it.
- Keep the confirmation email and monitor the portal for status and Etsy’s outcome notification.
If you are a buyer who recognizes someone else’s artwork but do not own it and are not authorized to act, use the ordinary listing or shop report instead. Explain what appears copied and let the rights owner decide whether to file the formal notice.
What happens after I submit a report?
Etsy says reports are confidential and routed to specialist review teams. Review may lead to contact with the seller or other action, but Etsy does not promise a particular outcome for every report. A confidentiality assurance means the seller is not shown your identity as the reporter through the normal reporting process; it does not turn a report into a public finding of wrongdoing.
Intellectual-property reporters can check status in the Reporting Portal and receive an outcome notification. For ordinary policy reports, retain your evidence and watch the email account associated with your Etsy account in case Etsy requests clarification. Do not file the same violation repeatedly while waiting, because duplicate submissions do not add new evidence.
What if I cannot find the report option?
Check that you are signed in and viewing the listing or shop on Etsy rather than a cached search preview. On the website, open the full listing page and look for Report this item to Etsy; for a shop-wide concern, open the shop homepage for Report this shop to Etsy. In the app, use the press-and-hold action from search results or scroll to the bottom of the listing.
If the page has disappeared, save any URL, ID, and screenshots you already have and describe that the listing is no longer accessible. A changed title, image, or disclosure is precisely why preserving the original evidence matters.
What should I do if the problem is a purchase, not just a policy violation?
A policy report does not replace Etsy’s order-support process. If an item you bought is materially different from its listing, keep the order record, messages, photographs of the delivered item, and packaging. Use Etsy’s buyer-help or case process for the transaction itself, while reporting the listing separately when the page appears to violate a marketplace rule.
Keep those two purposes distinct in your explanation: the report asks Etsy to review marketplace conduct; the order process addresses your specific purchase and remedy.

Can I report an Etsy listing without revealing my name to the seller?

Does Etsy publish a deadline for reviewing a misleading-listing report?
Etsy’s reporting guidance does not promise a fixed review time or a guaranteed enforcement result. Preserve your evidence, avoid duplicate reports, and use the Reporting Portal’s status view when your issue is an intellectual-property notice.
Can I report an AI image if I cannot prove which software made it?
Yes, if you can show a concrete policy concern such as an inaccurate depiction, a missing disclosure where disclosure is required, or prohibited functional instructions. You do not need to identify the generation tool; describe what the buyer is shown and why it conflicts with the listing or Etsy’s rules.
What if another person owns the copyright I think an Etsy seller copied?
Do not file the intellectual-property notice in your own name unless you are authorized. Submit a normal listing or shop report with the visible evidence, and direct the rights owner or authorized agent to Etsy’s Reporting Portal for the formal claim.
