What are the two Siri behaviors you can disable?

How do I turn off Siri AI completely?
Use the main Siri setting when you want the typing button and other Siri AI behavior disabled across macOS.
- Open System Settings from the Apple menu or Dock.
- Click Siri in the sidebar.
- Click Turn Off Siri.
- Confirm the change when macOS asks.
This is a system-level switch. It is broader than changing Messages alone, so use it when you do not want Siri AI available throughout the Mac.

How do I stop Siri suggestions in Messages without disabling Siri?
Use Siri’s per-app controls when the problem is limited to Messages.
- Open System Settings.
- Select Siri in the sidebar.
- Open App Access.
- Select Messages.
- Turn off Show Siri Suggestions in application to stop suggestions from appearing in Messages.
This approach leaves Siri available elsewhere. It is the narrower choice if you still use Siri in other applications but do not want prompts or suggested actions while replying to messages.
Should I also turn off learning from Messages?
That depends on whether you want to prevent Siri from using Messages as a source for personalization as well as hiding the visible suggestions. In the Messages entry under App Access, turn off Learn from this application to stop Siri from learning from that app. You can disable both switches for the most restrictive Messages-specific configuration.

Which setting should I use?
Choose based on how much of Siri you want to remove:
- Use Turn Off Siri if the typing button and Siri AI behavior are unwanted everywhere.
- Use Siri Classic if you want an assistant but prefer not to use Siri AI, and your installation offers that choice.
- Turn off Show Siri Suggestions in application if only the visible Messages suggestions are distracting.
- Turn off Learn from this application if your concern is Siri learning from Messages, whether or not suggestions are displayed.
- Turn off both Messages controls if you want neither learning nor in-app suggestions from Messages.
Because these controls are independent, disabling suggestions in Messages does not automatically disable Siri everywhere, and turning off learning does not by itself describe whether an on-screen suggestion will be hidden. Check both switches when you want both outcomes.

How can Screen Time restrict Siri on a managed or child account?
Screen Time adds an account-level restriction layer for Macs managed by a parent or administrator. It can limit which Siri version is allowed and block specific capabilities.
- Open the Mac’s Screen Time settings for the managed account.
- Open the Siri-related restrictions.
- Set the permitted option to Siri Classic, Siri AI (Beta), or Don’t Allow Siri.
- If required, block capabilities such as Writing Assistance.
Screen Time is different from an individual user’s Siri preference. A user may be unable to select an option that an administrator or parent has prohibited, so check the account’s restrictions when the normal Siri controls are unavailable or keep reverting.
