You can manage Walmart’s saved cards and bank accounts in Account → Settings gear → Wallet, while notifications and access to your camera, microphone, contacts, and location require both Walmart’s in-app controls and your iPhone or Android settings. Walmart’s Sparky shopping assistant is available to signed-in US app users, but Walmart’s Sparky help documentation does not describe a separate privacy switch. Use the broader Communications & Privacy controls, the Walmart Privacy Notice choices, and device-level permissions to limit how the app communicates with you and which phone features it can use.
Which Walmart settings control payments, notifications, permissions, and Sparky?
Walmart divides these choices between your Walmart account and the operating system on your phone. Account settings govern saved payment methods, communication preferences, store-purchase history, and some app controls. iOS or Android settings provide the final authorization for notifications and sensitive hardware or data such as the camera, microphone, contacts, and precise location.

| Saved cards, PayPal, gift cards, or bank accounts | Account → Settings gear → Wallet | No, except when a feature asks for camera access to scan a card |
| Marketing push notifications | Account → Settings gear → Communications and Privacy → Communications or Communications & Privacy | Yes. Notifications must also be allowed for Walmart in iOS or Android |
| Camera | Permission is requested by the feature, such as card scanning or barcode scanning | Yes |

| Automatic store-purchase history | Account → Communications & privacy → Store purchases | No, but Walmart Pay and receipts scanned in the app remain visible after opting out |
Because the two layers work together, turning off a switch in only one place may not produce the result you expect. For example, disabling Walmart’s in-app push option does not grant the app permission to send notifications, while enabling the phone permission does not override an in-app opt-out.
How do I add, edit, remove, or change the default payment method?
Open Walmart’s app and use the Wallet section under your account. Wallet is where you maintain methods for future eligible purchases, but an active order, subscription, or membership can temporarily prevent removal.

Add a payment method
- Open the Walmart app and select Account.
- Select the Settings gear in the top-right corner.
- Choose Wallet.
- Select Add new payment method.
- Choose the payment type and enter the requested details.
- Select Save Card.
Walmart allows you to scan a card with your device camera or enter the card number manually. Scanning is optional; you can deny camera access and type the details instead.
Edit billing details, expiration, or security code
- Go to Account → Settings gear → Wallet.
- Select Edit next to the saved method.
- Change the billing address, expiration date, or security code.
- Save the updated details when prompted.
If the card number itself has changed, Walmart’s instructions are to delete the old card and add the replacement as a new payment method. Editing the expiration date or billing information is not the same as replacing the account number.

Remove a saved card or other method
- Open Account, then select Wallet.
- Choose the payment method you want to remove.
- Select Edit.
- Choose Remove Card and confirm.
The removal command may be unavailable or rejected when the method is linked to an active order, subscription, or membership. Finish or update that obligation first, then return to Wallet. Removing a method affects its future use; it does not erase purchase records that Walmart has already imported into your account.
Set a different default method
- Open Wallet from your account.
- Select the payment method you want to use by default.
- Choose Set as Default.
The default method is used for future eligible purchases unless you select another option during checkout. Choosing a default does not automatically rewrite the payment method on an order that has already been submitted.
Change payment for a pending order
For an order that is still eligible for changes, use Account → Purchase history → select the order → Edit under Payment Method. Walmart says the payment method can be changed only once per order and cannot be changed after the order is on the way or has been delivered. This order-specific route is separate from changing the default in Wallet.
Are there limits on saved bank accounts and payment removal?
Walmart’s payment-method instructions state that you can save up to three bank accounts, but only one bank account can be connected at a time. The limit applies to saved bank-account entries, not to the general number of cards or other payment types you may see in Wallet.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Removal blocked: Check for an active order, subscription, or membership using the method.
- Card number changed: Remove the old card and add the new one instead of trying to edit the number.
- Wrong method at checkout: Select another payment method for that purchase; changing the Wallet default only affects future eligible purchases.
- Old purchases still visible: Removing a card does not delete historical transactions already associated with the account.
If a method still cannot be removed after its active linkage ends, sign out and back in, update the Walmart app, and try Wallet again. Keep the order or membership details available if you need Walmart support to identify the account-level block.
How do I turn Walmart marketing notifications off?
Marketing push notifications require two independent permissions: Walmart’s in-app communication setting and your phone’s notification authorization. Turn off both if you want to stop push alerts completely.

Turn off the Walmart app setting
- Open the Walmart app and tap the Account icon.
- Tap the Settings gear.
- Open Communications and Privacy. The wording can appear as Communications & Privacy on some versions.
- Open Communications or the communications subsection.
- Toggle Push Notifications off.
Labels can vary slightly between iPhone and Android releases, but the control remains under the account’s communications and privacy area.
Block notifications on iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Select Notifications.
- Choose Walmart.
- Turn off Allow Notifications.
You can leave notifications authorized at the device level and use Walmart’s in-app categories if you want only certain alerts, provided those category controls are offered in your app version.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBlock notifications on Android
- Open Settings.
- Choose Apps or Apps & notifications, depending on the Android version and phone manufacturer.
- Select Walmart.
- Choose Notifications.
- Disable the notification categories or the main notification permission.
Android manufacturers use different menu names and may place category controls on a separate screen. If alerts continue, check both the main Walmart notification switch and individual promotional categories.
Why can notifications continue after one switch is off?
An in-app opt-out and a device-level block are separate gates. If the app setting is off but the phone setting is on, Walmart may still be able to deliver other permitted notifications; if the phone setting is off, no Walmart push notification can appear even when the app setting is enabled. Review both locations before reinstalling the app or changing your account.
How do I stop Walmart from using my camera, microphone, contacts, or location?
Walmart’s Privacy Notice says you must give permission before the app accesses these features and that you can opt out at any time by changing your device settings. The exact menu names differ by operating-system version, but the controls are managed by the Walmart app entry in iOS or Android privacy settings.
Camera access
The camera can support card scanning, barcode scanning, and mobile Scan & Go. To revoke access, open your phone’s privacy or app-permission settings, select Walmart, and turn Camera off. Card entry remains available when Walmart lets you type the number manually, but camera-dependent scanning will stop until access is restored.

Voice shopping features require microphone and speech-recognition permission. Walmart says that after a voice feature is activated, the app receives a text transcription and does not use voice data for biometric analysis. Its notice also describes “Hey, Walmart” wake-word behavior when you have consented to microphone and speech recognition.
To stop microphone access, open the Walmart app’s permissions page in iOS or Android settings and disable Microphone. Voice search and wake-word features will not work while that permission is blocked, but text-based shopping remains available.

Contacts access
Contacts permission is used for functions such as importing contacts. Disable Contacts for Walmart in your device’s app-permission controls if you do not want the app to read that address-book data. Any feature that depends on contact importing will then be unavailable until you grant access again.
Precise location
Walmart says precise location collection depends on your device settings and consent. In the Walmart entry under iOS or Android location settings, choose the least-privileged option your phone offers, such as denying location, allowing it only while using the app, or disabling precise location while retaining approximate location.
Changing a location permission affects location-based functions, including experiences that need to know which store or area you are using. It does not remove your saved payment methods or change communication preferences in the Walmart account.
Where to find permission controls
On iPhone, use Settings → Privacy & Security for categories such as Camera, Microphone, Contacts, and Location Services, or open Settings → Walmart for the app’s available switches. On Android, use Settings → Apps → Walmart → Permissions; some devices expose the same controls under Privacy or Permission manager. Menu names and the available location choices vary by phone model and operating-system version.
What is Sparky, and what privacy controls are available?
Sparky is Walmart’s AI-powered shopping assistant. Walmart describes it as a tool that can understand shopping needs conversationally, suggest products, answer questions, synthesize reviews, and make recommendations based on preferences. It is available in the Walmart app for US customers who are signed in.
What Sparky can do
- Interpret a shopping request expressed in ordinary language.
- Suggest items that fit the request and stated preferences.
- Answer product questions and summarize or synthesize reviews.
- Provide recommendations intended to help with purchase decisions.
Walmart says Sparky uses limited customer data and operates under restrictions in Walmart’s Privacy Policy. The company also cautions that Sparky should not be relied on for medical, legal, or financial advice; treat its responses as shopping assistance rather than professional guidance.
Can I turn off Sparky separately?
Walmart’s Sparky help information does not document a dedicated Sparky data-retention, personalization, or privacy toggle. To reduce related data access, use the broader Walmart Privacy Notice choices, review Communications & Privacy in your account, and deny camera, microphone, location, contacts, or notification permissions at the phone level when those features are not needed.
Voice-related controls are distinct from Sparky’s existence in the app. You can deny microphone and speech-recognition permission to prevent voice activation while still using ordinary text interactions that do not require the microphone.

How do I control broader communications and store-purchase history?
Account-level privacy choices are located in Communications & Privacy. This area is broader than push notifications and may include how Walmart communicates with you and whether automatic store-purchase history is collected.
Turn off automatic store-purchase history
- Open the Walmart app and select Account.
- Open Communications & privacy.
- Select Store purchases.
- Set the option to Off.
Walmart says that opting out does not hide purchases made with Walmart Pay or receipts scanned with the app. Those transactions can still appear even when automatic store-purchase history is disabled, so this setting is not a deletion tool for existing purchase records.
Separate account choices from phone permissions
Communications & Privacy governs Walmart’s account-level choices. It cannot grant or revoke the operating system’s camera, microphone, contacts, location, or notification authorization. Make the account change first, then check the Walmart entry in your phone settings whenever the choice involves a device feature.
What is the difference between removing a payment method and hiding purchase history?
These actions affect different kinds of data and should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Action | What it changes | What it does not change |
|---|---|---|
| Remove a saved card in Wallet | Stops that saved method from being available for future eligible purchases | Does not erase previously imported purchases or necessarily remove an active order linkage |
| Set a new Wallet default | Chooses the method Walmart uses by default for future eligible purchases | Does not automatically change a submitted order |
| Change payment on a pending order | Updates the payment method for that particular eligible order | Can be done only once and not after the order is on the way or delivered |
| Turn off Store purchases | Opts out of automatic store-purchase history | Does not hide Walmart Pay purchases or receipts scanned with the app |
| Disable phone permissions | Blocks the app from using the selected device feature | Does not remove account data already stored by Walmart |
Use Wallet when your goal is payment housekeeping. Use Communications & Privacy when your goal is account communications or automatic store-purchase history, and use iOS or Android settings when your goal is to block a phone capability.
What should I check when a Walmart privacy setting does not work?
The card will not delete
Look for an active order, recurring subscription, or membership tied to that method. If an order is pending, use its Payment Method edit control rather than trying to remove the card first. After the linkage ends, reopen Wallet and attempt removal again.

Check the Walmart in-app Push Notifications switch and the phone’s Walmart notification permission. On Android, inspect individual notification categories; on iPhone, verify that Allow Notifications is disabled if you want a complete device-level block.
A scanner or voice feature stopped working
Review the relevant permission in the Walmart app’s iOS or Android settings. Card scanning and barcode features need Camera, while voice search and wake-word behavior need Microphone and speech recognition. Grant only the permission required for the feature you intend to use.
Best Value
Location results seem wrong after changing access
Confirm whether the phone is supplying precise, approximate, while-in-use, or no location. Store-finder and other location-dependent experiences can change when you select a less permissive option. Re-enable the required level temporarily if a feature cannot identify the correct store.
Sparky recommendations raise a privacy concern
Review the Walmart Privacy Notice and Communications & Privacy controls, then disable any camera, microphone, contacts, location, or notification permission that is unnecessary for your use. Walmart’s available Sparky documentation does not list a separate assistant-specific privacy switch, so these broader controls are the documented ways to limit related access.
How should I review Walmart settings after an app or phone update?
Updates can rename menus or add permission categories, especially on Android devices. Use this short review whenever Walmart or your operating system changes:
- Open Wallet and confirm that only current payment methods remain.
- Check whether the intended default method is still marked as default.
- Review Communications & Privacy and verify Push Notifications and Store purchases choices.
- Open the Walmart app’s phone settings and inspect Camera, Microphone, Contacts, Location, and Notifications.
- For voice features, confirm both microphone and speech-recognition access.
- For location, confirm whether precise location is enabled and whether access is limited to app use.
- Review Sparky usage with the same account and device permissions rather than assuming a separate Sparky switch exists.
Take screenshots of important settings only if you need a personal record; screenshots may contain account or order information, so store them securely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Walmart voice shopping without allowing microphone access?
No voice feature can listen for a request while the Walmart app lacks microphone permission. You can still use non-voice shopping interactions, including typed searches, and grant microphone access later when you want voice features.
Does changing iPhone or Android permissions delete data Walmart already has?
Device permission changes stop future access to that phone feature; they are not account-data deletion requests. Existing orders, saved account information, and records covered by Walmart’s privacy practices require account-level controls or a request handled through Walmart’s privacy process.
Why does Walmart ask for camera access when I only want to save a card?
The app offers card scanning as a convenience during payment setup. You can decline the camera request and enter the card details manually, so camera access is not required for every way of adding a payment method.
Can another person using my Walmart account change these settings?
Wallet, communication, purchase-history, and Sparky-related choices apply to the signed-in Walmart account, while phone permissions apply to the device. Anyone with account access may be able to change account controls, so use a unique password and sign out of shared devices.
