Yes, but not every Fanatical purchase can be transferred in the same way. The safest method is Fanatical’s official Gift this order flow, which keeps the keys hidden until the recipient accepts. You can also pass an unused Steam key from a multi-key bundle, but a key revealed and pasted into chat or email loses Fanatical’s normal gifting and refund protection. Steam’s own game-gifting system and Steam Gift Cards are usually safer when the recipient lives in another country or you want them to choose their game.

Use Fanatical’s official order-gifting feature before revealing any key. Fanatical says, “You can gift your fanatical.com orders to others through fanatical.com.” The recipient receives a redemption link, creates or signs in to a free Fanatical account, accepts the order, and then reveals the keys from their own Order History.

- Enter the recipient’s email address, your name, an optional message, and a delivery date.
- Pay for the order. An immediate gift is emailed after payment; a scheduled gift is sent at 12PM GMT on the chosen date.
Checkout gifts can be deferred for up to one year. If every item in the cart is ineligible, Fanatical disables the Gift this order option.
Gift an order you already completed
A completed order can still be gifted if it remains eligible and was delivered no more than 180 days ago.

- Open Order History.
- Select View Order & Keys.
- Choose Gift This Order.
- Enter the recipient’s email, your name, and an optional message.
The recipient accepts through the emailed link. Until acceptance, the sender can edit the details or revoke the gift from Manage Gift Order. Once accepted, the order moves to the recipient’s Fanatical Order History, where that person reveals the Steam keys.
Buy from a friend’s wishlist
A friend can share a Fanatical wishlist. Shared lists appear under My Friends; select Gift beside an eligible title to purchase and send it.
Can I give a friend unused keys from a Fanatical bundle?
Yes, when the bundle delivers separate keys and you have not redeemed the extra games yourself. Fanatical’s September 2026 guidance says: “Yes, if a bundle is delivered as multiple separate keys (we include a note in the bundle’s description if the whole bundle is delivered as a single key) you can pass on the individual Steam® keys to a friend to redeem.” It also warns: “Please remember that each Steam® key can only be redeemed once.”
Check the bundle description before purchase. If the entire bundle arrives as one key, there is no separate serial to hand over. Do not activate an unwanted title on your own Steam account first; Steam licenses are normally bound to the account that redeems them.

Can I copy and paste a Fanatical key I have already revealed?
Technically, a revealed serial can be sent to another person, but this is the riskier, legacy method. An older localized Fanatical help article describes buying a key in your own name, revealing it, and copying it into an email or document. That advice applies only to key-delivered products, not keyless Ubisoft or EA-style delivery, and it predates the current English recommendation to use Gift this order.
Revealing a key has three immediate consequences:
- Fanatical disables the official gifting button for that order.
- A normal refund is generally no longer available because the serial has been disclosed.
- Anyone who obtains the text or a screenshot can redeem it first, and Fanatical does not promise recovery for a key stolen through a compromised account or unsecured message.
Only use a raw key when it is an unused extra from a bundle and you accept that there is no revoke button, delivery scheduling, or reliable recovery if the recipient loses it.
Which Fanatical orders cannot be gifted?
Fanatical’s October 2026 gifting guidance lists several hard exclusions. An order is not eligible if any of the following applies:
- It contains a Ubisoft, Epic, or Nintendo game. (The gift-guide excerpt is less complete; the October how-to list also names Ubisoft and Nintendo.)
- Any associated key has already been revealed.
- The order was delivered more than 180 days ago.
- Any part of the order was refunded.
- The product is region-locked in a way that may prevent the recipient’s country from activating it.
- The recipient does not create or use a free Fanatical account through the gift link.
Fanatical’s terms also allow up to two serial keys for one product when the purchase is for gifting, although some products are limited to one. The store will not increase that cap. Keys are sold for personal, non-commercial use, so the allowance is not permission to run a resale business or a giveaway operation.
How do I check whether a Fanatical key works in my friend’s country?
Check the recipient’s country before paying, not after sending the key. Fanatical detects the buyer’s country from the connection used at checkout and supplies that country’s product variant. A key that works for the buyer may fail for an account registered elsewhere, activate a cut-down or locally altered version, or be blocked entirely. Puerto Rico is often handled separately from the United States.
- Open the game’s Fanatical product page.
- Under Activates in XYZ, select Check country restrictions.
- Choose the recipient’s country and read the activation result.
- If the result is unclear, open a Fanatical support ticket before purchasing.
SteamDB can provide additional package and country information when you know the game’s Steam ID, but a store-page check and Fanatical support are the practical final checks. Do not use a VPN or another IP-masking service to force a different country. Fanatical’s terms prohibit location-blocking software, and Valve’s Steam Subscriber Agreement prohibits IP proxying to bypass geographic restrictions or pricing. A mismatched key is a failed gift, not a legitimate discount method.

What happens to refunds and old unrevealed keys?
For a normal Fanatical refund, the request must generally be made within 14 days of purchase, and the game must not have been activated or downloaded. Disclosing a serial usually makes the transaction final unless Fanatical confirms that the key itself is faulty. Mystery bundles have an additional rule: once the mystery product name is revealed, the purchase is normally non-refundable even if the serial remains hidden.
Fanatical may offer a discretionary refund when a game is unactivated, the request is within 14 days, the platform has not withdrawn the product, and the circumstances are considered reasonable. In the European Union, the cooling-off right can be lost when a download or key disclosure starts. UK residents may have fault remedies under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including rights that can apply within 30 days for defective digital content.

Fanatical also reserves the right to clear purchased serial keys from its platform after 180 days. That means an unrevealed key can disappear from Fanatical’s Order History after the gifting window even if you never opened it. Keys already redeemed on Steam continue to belong to the Steam account after Fanatical removes its stored copy, so redeem or gift eligible keys promptly.
Why does Steam show “Duplicate Key”?
A Duplicate Key message does not prove that Fanatical intentionally sold a bad code. Fanatical’s current FAQ lists three possibilities: another person copied and redeemed the key first, a publisher cancelled a very old unused key, or Fanatical supplied a duplicate.
Contact Fanatical support with the order number, game name, and the key. Support can trace the serial, but older keys are harder to rectify. A key pasted into a public channel, shared screenshot, or unsecured email has an obvious exposure risk, and Fanatical’s terms say it will not refund keys stolen or compromised through a breach of the customer’s own account security.
Is Steam’s own game-gifting system safer?
Usually, yes. A Steam gift is a new purchase delivered through Valve, not a transfer of a Fanatical serial and not a game already sitting in your library. Valve states that a gift is a one-time transfer after acceptance and that existing games cannot be transferred.

Steam changed several gifting rules in July 2026:
- Guest checkout can buy any Steam game, not only gift cards or hardware.
- A game or digital gift card can be sent to an email address that does not match the recipient’s Steam login email.
- Email gifts must be between people in the same country. If the recipient does not accept within 30 days, Steam automatically refunds the purchaser; email gifts cannot be scheduled for a future date.
- Cross-region gifts use the recipient region’s price and still require the recipient to be on the sender’s Steam friends list.
- Ordinary gifts and wishlist-based gifts no longer universally require an existing friends-list connection, although some titles remain ungiftable and the checkout option may be absent.
If Steam will not allow a particular game to be gifted, Valve directs customers toward a Steam Gift Card instead.
Would a Steam Gift Card be better?
A Steam Gift Card avoids sending a one-time game serial and lets the recipient buy the title in their own Steam store country. Valve offers both digital and physical cards; physical cards are redeemed at Steam’s wallet-code page. Funds can be used for games, software, hardware, and other Steam purchases.
This option is useful when you are unsure which edition the recipient needs, when Fanatical’s region check is unfavorable, or when the game is not giftable on Steam. Digital cards are sent through Steam, while a physical card can be held and given in person. Steam’s Subscriber Agreement says wallet funds are non-refundable and non-transferable once added to an account, so send the card to the intended recipient and verify the country rules of the retailer or card type.
Fanatical does not sell Fanatical or Steam gift cards. Its gift guide says cards for Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation, Roblox, Minecraft, and EA stores may be available depending on location; those cards do not substitute for a Steam gift.

Which method should you choose?
- Choose Fanatical Gift this order when the product is eligible, the recipient’s country passes the restriction check, and you want scheduling plus the ability to edit or revoke before acceptance.
- Choose an unused bundle key only for a separate key you have not redeemed and are comfortable treating as irreversible once shared.
- Choose a Steam store gift when the game is available for gifting and you want Valve to manage acceptance, decline, and refund handling.
- Choose a Steam Gift Card when you want the recipient to select the game, when regional activation is uncertain, or when you prefer a physical present.
For most friends, keep the serial hidden and use Fanatical’s official gift flow, Steam’s native gift system, or a Steam Gift Card. Copying a revealed key is the least recoverable option.
