Report each known post or comment on the platform where it appears, and explain that it depicts an identifiable person in intimate imagery without consent and was AI-generated or manipulated. Report threats to share images too, where the platform provides that option. A fabricated image can still violate platform rules even if the person never posed for it. If the image depicts someone under 18, do not download, forward or ask anyone to send it for a removal service.
What should I do first?
Start with the content itself: report the image, post or comment where it is hosted. StopNCII.org advises reporting an image that is already online to the platform first; a hashing service is a complementary measure, not a substitute for reporting a known post.

- Describe the violation clearly. State that the image is intimate or sexual, depicts an identifiable real person, was shared without that person’s consent, and is AI-generated or manipulated. If there is a threat to share it, report the threat as well.
- Choose an age-appropriate next step. If the person was under 18 in the image, even if now an adult, use NCMEC’s Take It Down guidance only if the file is already on the device. Do not seek out or obtain a copy just to submit it.
- Consider a hash service as an additional measure. StopNCII.org is for adults depicted as adults; Take It Down is for imagery depicting someone under 18. Neither guarantees removal everywhere.
These steps apply whether someone says “someone made an AI nude of me” or you are helping another person. The available platform routes differ, and a US-specific legal complaint option is not the same as an ordinary content report.
What should I say in the report?
Keep the explanation focused on the facts that make the content reportable: the depicted person is identifiable, the image is intimate or sexual, consent was not given, and the image is synthetic or manipulated. If the post threatens to share an image rather than showing one, say that plainly. If you are reporting for someone else, identify that you are a bystander or helper if the form asks; do not claim to be the person depicted.

Report the particular post, comment or threat at each place it appears. A general complaint about an account may not identify every copy that needs review. If the same image has been reposted on more than one service, use each host’s own reporting route. Avoid forwarding the image to other people to illustrate the report, especially if the person shown may have been under 18.
How do I report a fake intimate image on Instagram?
Report the image or threat within Instagram and state that it is non-consensual intimate imagery and AI-generated or manipulated. Meta says sharing or threatening to share intimate images without permission violates its policies and provides a dedicated reporting option.

Meta’s non-consensual intimate imagery guidance links to Instagram reporting instructions. The precise current menu labels are not established here, so do not rely on a guessed sequence of taps.
Meta also identifies Instagram as a founding participant in NCMEC’s Take It Down service and explicitly includes AI-generated imagery in its description of that service. That is a possible additional route for content depicting someone under 18; it does not replace reporting the Instagram post itself.
Meta says its teams review reports in more than 70 languages. That figure describes the languages in which reports are reviewed, not a removal deadline or a promise that a particular report will be resolved within a set time. If the image is reposted or also appears in comments, report those specific items as well.
How do I report a deepfake or fake intimate photo on X?
On X, report the post under Private or Non-Consensual Content and select the option for sharing or threatening to share a sexual, nude or intimate photo or video without permission. X’s August 2026 policy expressly includes AI-generated, deepfake and digitally manipulated sexualization of an identifiable real adult.

- Open the offending post and select Report.
- Choose Private or Non-Consensual Content.
- Select the choice describing a threat to share or the sharing of a sexual, nude or intimate photo or video without permission.
- Indicate whether you are reporting for yourself or someone else, then submit the report.
X says anyone can report this type of content. Its policy also recognizes AI sexualization of an identifiable person as reportable even when the image is fabricated. See X’s non-consensual nudity policy for the policy details. This means a person depicted need not be the only person able to flag the post; a bystander can report it too. Follow the form’s question about whom you are reporting for rather than presenting yourself as the depicted person.
What is X’s US Take It Down Act route?
For a US report under the Take It Down Act, X documents a separate post-menu option, Report content under the US Take It Down Act, and a Help Center form. X says a person does not need an X account to use the form. Its US-specific page says qualifying reported content will be removed no later than 48 hours after X receives a valid report—not 48 hours after an initial contact of any kind. The 48-hour statement applies to qualifying reports under that specific US route. It should not be treated as a deadline for an ordinary report, for a report that has not been determined valid, or for a report to Instagram, TikTok or Reddit. If the person reporting is outside the US or does not meet the route’s requirements, the ordinary report option remains the relevant platform route described above.
How do I report a TikTok deepfake?
TikTok’s indexed AI-generated-content instructions give a report path for deepfakes and manipulated media: Report → Misinformation → Deepfakes, synthetic media, and manipulated media. Use the post’s own report action and explain that the synthetic intimate image depicts an identifiable person without consent.

- In the app, open the post’s Share menu or press and hold the post to find Report.
- On the web, open the post’s more-options menu and select Report.
- Choose Misinformation, then Deepfakes, synthetic media, and manipulated media, and submit.
This is the route given in TikTok’s AI-generated-content help. A separate abuse-specific reporting category could not be confirmed, so do not assume this is TikTok’s only or preferred route for non-consensual sexual imagery.
If the labels have changed in your app or the path does not fit the post, use TikTok’s current in-product reporting choices and describe the non-consensual intimate nature of the material. The available instructions establish a synthetic-media route, but do not establish a separate sexual-abuse category or a platform-wide takedown timeframe.
How do I report Reddit non-consensual intimate media?
On Reddit, open the offending post or comment’s overflow menu and select Report → Non-Consensual Intimate Media. Answer the follow-up questions and submit. Reddit’s rule explicitly covers deepfakes and lookalike pornography, as well as sharing, threatening to share or soliciting intimate content without consent.
- Open the post or comment containing the image, or the threat to share it.
- Open its overflow menu and choose Report.
- Select Non-Consensual Intimate Media, answer the follow-up prompts and submit.
Reddit’s help page on shared or threatened intimate images describes this route. Reddit Rule 3’s cited scope distinguishes an identifiable real person from fictional AI-generated sexual characters; this exclusion from that particular rule does not establish that every other Reddit policy is inapplicable.
That distinction matters when deciding whether the issue is non-consensual intimate imagery of a real person: a fictional sexual character is not the same as a synthetic image that sexualizes an identifiable person. For a real person depicted in a deepfake or lookalike image, use the non-consensual intimate media route and answer the follow-up questions accurately.
When can someone use Reddit’s US legal complaint?
Reddit separately documents a Take It Down Act legal complaint for a person in the US who is depicted or legally represents the depicted person. It requires a contact email, full legal signature and a direct link to the content. Someone outside the US, or a person reporting a general rules violation, can use Reddit’s ordinary report button instead.

This legal complaint route is narrower than the ordinary report button: it specifies who may file and what information is required. A bystander who is not the depicted person or their legal representative should use the standard report route for a rules violation rather than assuming they qualify to submit the legal complaint.
Which removal route fits the person’s age?
Use the age of the person as depicted in the image, not their age today. For an adult depicted as an adult, StopNCII.org may help participating platforms detect matching files; for an image depicting someone under 18, NCMEC’s Take It Down service is the age-appropriate hash-sharing option.

Both services work from a file already available to the person using the service; they do not require publishing that file as part of the hash process. NCMEC says the image or video remains on the device and is not uploaded. Its Take It Down page also points to its CyberTipline as an additional route for exploitation or threats.
Hashing and platform reports do different jobs. A platform report targets a known post or comment; a hash can help participating services recognize matching files. A hash is not a promise that a copy will disappear from every site, and it may not match an edited, cropped or encrypted copy. For an image already posted, report it to the host first.
Can a helper submit a hash for someone else?
StopNCII.org’s FAQ says the person pictured, rather than an unrelated helper, must submit their own image. A friend or family member can still offer practical support, such as helping the person find the report option or sit with them while they report a post. That does not mean the helper should take possession of, request or circulate the image.
For Take It Down, the critical restriction is that the file must already be on the device; NCMEC says not to download, share or ask someone to send an image just to use the service. If there is no safe, existing file to submit, do not try to create one for hashing. Report the known content to its host and use the service’s guidance for the age of the person depicted.

Do not download, forward or ask another person to send the image just so it can be submitted to a removal service. Report the known post directly to its platform, and use Take It Down only if the relevant image file is already on the device.
Take It Down is intended for imagery depicting someone under 18 at the time shown, even if that person has since become an adult. NCMEC warns that the service cannot guarantee the image will disappear everywhere or that past posts will be removed. For exploitation or threats, NCMEC’s CyberTipline is another reporting route; the service information is available at takeitdown.ncmec.org.

The age question is about the person shown at the time represented by the image. Someone who is now 18 or older may still need the under-18 route if the image depicts them as a minor. Do not assume a synthetic image is exempt from this caution because it was generated rather than photographed.
What should I expect after submitting a report?
Each platform’s report concerns the particular content submitted; there is no verified, comparable removal-time promise across Instagram, X, TikTok and Reddit. Do not treat X’s US legal-route timing as a general deadline for ordinary reports or for other services.
X’s US Take It Down Act page states a limit of no later than 48 hours after receipt of a valid report for qualifying content. That is a specific X statement tied to the US legal route. It does not establish when another kind of X report, or a report to another platform, will be decided.
If copies appear on multiple platforms, report each known copy at its host. A hash service may provide an additional way to flag matching files on participating surfaces, but it is not internet-wide and does not reach encrypted services. The absence of a posted image does not make a threat irrelevant: X, Meta and Reddit describe reporting options that cover threats in the circumstances stated in their policies.
Meta says its teams review reports in more than 70 languages, but that information is about language coverage and not how quickly a report will be decided. Do not infer a response time from it, or from X’s separate 48-hour statement for qualifying US legal complaints.

How can you decide which route to use?
- Known post or comment: report it on the platform where it appears, using the platform-specific route above.
- Only a threat so far: report the threat where the platform allows it; X, Meta and Reddit explicitly address threats in their relevant guidance.
- Adult depicted as an adult, file already available to that person: consider StopNCII.org in addition to reporting known copies.
- Person depicted as under 18: do not obtain or circulate the file; report the post and use Take It Down only when the file is already on-device.
- US legal route: check the specific eligibility requirements for X or Reddit before using a Take It Down Act complaint; those options are not interchangeable with ordinary platform reports.
- Fictional character rather than an identifiable real person: do not assume the non-consensual intimate-image rule applies in the same way; Reddit’s cited Rule 3 expressly excludes fictional AI-generated sexual characters from that rule.
The key distinction is not whether the image is genuine photography. It is whether the content depicts an identifiable person, is intimate or sexual, and was shared or threatened without consent—and which platform currently hosts it.

Can a friend or family member submit a StopNCII case for me?
StopNCII.org’s FAQ says the person pictured must submit their own image rather than an unrelated helper. If you are supporting someone, you can help them navigate the platform’s own report process without taking possession of the image.
Does Take It Down apply if the person in the image is now an adult?
It can: eligibility is based on the person’s age at the time depicted, so it includes an image showing them under 18 even if they are older now. The file must already be available on the device; it should not be obtained just to use the service.
Can someone report this without having an account on the platform?
X says a person without an X account can use its US Take It Down Act Help Center form. The evidence here does not establish an equivalent no-account process for Instagram, TikTok or Reddit.
Does a hash service remove every copy of an image from the internet?
No. StopNCII.org and Take It Down work with participating services and cannot guarantee universal removal. Hashing may not cover encrypted services or edited and cropped versions, so report each known post or comment directly to its host.
Should I wait for StopNCII.org or Take It Down before reporting a post?

What if the image has only been threatened, not posted?
