Request the refund from Steam Support while signed in to the Steam account that made the purchase. Open Purchases, choose the purchase transaction—not simply a game in your library—select the relevant problem, and choose I’d like to request a refund. A game bought separately follows Steam’s standard individual-purchase rule. A bundle bought as one transaction is assessed as a whole: Valve’s published policy describes a full-bundle refund when the bundle’s combined usage is under two hours and no included item was transferred. It does not establish a general right to remove and refund only one title from a bundle.

How do I start a Steam refund request?
Use the account’s purchase history in Steam Support. Selecting the correct transaction is the key step because Steam’s rules and the available refund choices are tied to what was bought in that transaction.

- Open Steam Support and sign in. Use the Steam account that paid for the game or bundle. If you are signed in to another account, the purchase may not appear.
- Open Purchases. Steam Support presents purchases associated with the signed-in account. Locate the transaction you want reviewed.
- Select the purchase transaction. For a separately bought game, choose that game purchase. For a bundle bought as one checkout transaction, choose the bundle purchase. Do not assume that selecting an individual library title creates a separate transaction.
- Choose the applicable problem. Steam will show issue categories for the selected purchase. Pick the one that best describes why you want the money returned.
- Select “I’d like to request a refund.” This opens the refund form for that transaction.
- Complete the form and choose the destination offered. Steam may offer Steam Wallet funds or the original payment method. The original-method option is not available for every payment type.
- Submit the request. Steam Support says to expect a submission-confirmation email, followed later by a processing email. Keep both messages until the request is resolved.
Valve’s policy says, “You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason.” That sentence describes the ability to submit a request, not an automatic approval. Eligibility is reviewed against the purchase type, timing, usage and any special restrictions.
What is the difference between an individual-game refund and a bundle refund?
The purchase type determines which usage figure Steam evaluates. A game bought alone is measured on its own; a bundle bought in one transaction is measured across the bundle.

When the game was purchased separately
Valve’s standard offer for a Steam Store game is a request made within 14 days of purchase with less than two hours of playtime on that game. The two-hour figure is a policy threshold, not a guarantee that every request below it will be approved; other restrictions can apply to particular content or payment situations.
If you are outside either threshold, you can still submit a request for review. Steam Support’s FAQ states, “Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can submit a request and we’ll take a look at it.” Approval in an exception case is discretionary.

For a bundle purchased as one transaction, Valve describes a full-bundle refund when no included item was transferred and combined usage of every bundle item is less than two hours. Treat the bundle as one purchase for this calculation: there is not a separate two-hour allowance for each game.
Read the disclosure shown at checkout. Some bundles can contain nonrefundable in-game items or downloadable content, and those terms can affect what Steam can return. A bundle’s contents and restrictions are part of the transaction you are asking Support to review.
When you want only one game from a bundle refunded
Valve’s published bundle section explains the conditions for refunding the complete bundle, not a universal process for refunding one title while keeping the others. Steam may review the circumstances you describe, but the policy does not promise that Support will remove or refund only the unwanted game.
Select the original bundle transaction and explain precisely what you are asking for. If the game was actually bought in a separate transaction at another time, select that separate purchase instead; the individual-game rules then apply to that transaction. This is a distinction between two purchase records, not evidence that Steam grants partial refunds from every bundle.

Does Steam count bundle playtime separately for each game?
No. For a bundle bought as one transaction, the published rule uses combined usage across the included items. Playing one title for 90 minutes and another for 45 minutes would total 135 minutes for the bundle, rather than giving you a fresh two-hour allowance for each title.
The same combined approach means that opening several included games briefly can add up. Before submitting, check the playtime shown for every item tied to the bundle and consider whether any item was transferred. Steam’s policy condition is less than two hours in total and no transfer of an included item.
What if the purchase is missing from Steam Support?
A transaction that does not appear in the guided purchase list may be too far outside Steam’s normal refund window. That message does not prove that an exception is impossible, and it does not guarantee that Support can recover the purchase through the form.
- Confirm that you signed in to the Steam account that paid for the transaction.
- Check the account’s purchase history for the exact date, title or bundle name and payment record.
- Return to Steam Support and look under Purchases again, selecting the transaction rather than a library entry.
- If the purchase remains unavailable, use the support route that lets you describe the situation, if Steam presents one, and include the transaction details. Ask for a review rather than claiming that the normal rules automatically apply.
Steam’s broader policy allows an out-of-rules request to be submitted for consideration, but a missing guided-list entry is a warning that the ordinary automated path may not be available.
Where does an approved Steam refund go, and how long does it take?
An approved refund is issued within one week of approval, according to Valve. That is not a promise of payment within one week of submitting the request: Steam first has to review and approve it.
When the option is available, the money can return to the eligible original payment method. If that method cannot receive the refund, Steam may issue the amount as Steam Wallet funds instead. You cannot assume that a different card or an unrelated account can be selected as the destination.

The submission-confirmation email only confirms that Steam received the request. A later processing email indicates what Steam decided and how the refund will be delivered. Keep the transaction information and both messages if you need to follow up.
How do gifts and separately purchased DLC affect a refund?
Redeemed gifts
If a gifted game has been redeemed, the recipient must initiate the refund process. When Steam refunds that purchase, the funds go to the original purchaser rather than becoming money in the recipient’s account. The recipient should therefore coordinate with the person who paid before submitting a request.

Downloadable content purchased as its own transaction has a separate rule. Valve describes a request within 14 days, less than two hours of base-game play since the DLC was purchased, and no consumption, modification or transfer of the DLC. Marked third-party exceptions can apply.
Do not automatically apply that DLC rule to an entire bundle. A bundle’s refund is assessed under the bundle conditions, while a separately purchased DLC record is assessed as DLC.
Which purchases are outside Steam’s refund process?
Retail activation keys and Steam Wallet cards bought elsewhere
Valve cannot provide a Steam refund for a third-party retail key or a Steam Wallet card purchased outside Steam. The seller that took the payment is the party to contact for those purchases; the Steam Support purchase flow cannot turn them into Steam Store transactions.
Pre-release purchases
Pre-release timing has an extra distinction. If the title was playable through early access or advanced access, that playtime counts toward the relevant refund assessment. If the pre-purchase was not playable, the ordinary 14-day period starts when the title releases, rather than on the date the pre-purchase was placed.

What should I do if my bundle request is denied?
First, read the decision email and compare it with the transaction facts: purchase date, combined playtime, whether an item was transferred, and whether the bundle contained restricted content. If you believe Steam evaluated the wrong transaction, submit a new explanation through Support that identifies the bundle purchase and supplies the relevant details.
- Wrong record selected: Start again from Purchases and select the bundle transaction, not an individual library title.
- Combined playtime is over two hours: Explain any unusual circumstance, but understand that an exception is discretionary.
- An item was transferred: State what happened accurately; the published full-bundle condition requires that no included item was transferred.
- Purchase is old or missing: Ask for a manual review and include the transaction date and payment information. Do not present the request as guaranteed.
- Payment destination is unavailable: Check whether Steam offered Wallet funds, because an original payment method may not be able to receive the refund.
How should I describe a request for one title in a bundle?
Be explicit that the purchase was one bundle transaction and identify the single title you no longer want. Explain whether you are requesting a partial refund, asking to remove that title, or seeking another remedy, and provide the bundle’s purchase date and your combined usage.
That wording gives Steam Support the facts it needs without implying that the published full-bundle rule guarantees a partial refund. If the title was purchased separately, submit the separate transaction instead and follow the individual-game route.
