If your PlayStation PULSE 3D headset will not pair, has missing or unbalanced audio, echoes in chat, or will not charge, start by power-cycling the headset and firmly reseating its USB wireless adapter. Then isolate wireless or USB interference, check the PS5 audio controls, and use the hardware reset only if simpler steps fail. The PULSE 3D models CFI-ZWH1 and CFI-ZWD1 are listed as compatible with PS5 and PS4.
What should I check before troubleshooting a PULSE 3D headset?
Confirm that the headset is charged, its power switch is on, and the USB wireless adapter is connected to the console. PULSE 3D connects wirelessly through that adapter; it does not pair to the console simply by switching on the headset.

When the adapter is searching and the headset is pairing, the headset indicator blinks. Once connected, the indicator becomes solid. That change gives you a quick way to tell whether the wireless link has been established before you investigate console audio settings.
- Check that the adapter is fully inserted in a console USB port.
- Slide the headset power switch on and watch its indicator.
- Allow the adapter and headset a moment to find each other.
- If the indicator does not become solid, work through the pairing steps below.
How do I fix a PULSE 3D headset that will not pair?
Turn the headset off and back on, then firmly reseat the USB wireless adapter. If the connection still fails, reduce nearby wireless and USB interference before resetting the headset.

- Bluetooth 5.0 and 3.5mm audio jack for Mobile devices

- Power-cycle the headset. Switch it off, then switch it on again with the adapter connected.
- Reseat the adapter. Remove it from the console USB port and plug it back in firmly.
- Remove unused wireless adapters. Disconnect adapters in other USB ports while testing, so they are not adding unnecessary nearby wireless activity.
- Move nearby wireless devices away. Temporarily create more space between the headset adapter and nearby wireless equipment.
- Separate the adapter from USB 3.0 devices. If USB 3.0 devices are attached to the console, temporarily remove them. Alternatively, use a USB extension cable to increase the distance between those devices and the headset adapter.
- Check the indicator again. A solid indicator means the headset and adapter have connected; if it remains in the pairing state, proceed to the hardware reset.
These steps are useful because a pairing failure is not always a fault in the headset itself. The adapter’s location and other nearby devices can affect the wireless connection, so moving or removing those devices is a sensible test before concluding that hardware needs replacement.
How do I reset the PULSE 3D USB wireless adapter?
The hardware reset involves both the small reset button on the adapter and two headset buttons. Press the adapter’s reset button for at least one second, then hold CHAT and VOLUME+ while turning on the headset.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Turn the headset off.
- Insert the USB wireless adapter into the console or another powered USB Type-A port.
- Locate the small reset button in the adapter and press it for at least one second.
- On the headset, press and hold CHAT and VOLUME+.
- While continuing to hold both buttons, slide the power switch on.
- Check whether the headset and adapter connect.
Sony’s PULSE 3D instruction manual says, “If the reset is successful, the headset and adaptor will connect.” If the connection does not return, repeat the simpler checks: confirm the adapter is seated, the headset has charge, and nearby wireless or USB 3.0 devices are not interfering. A reset is not a substitute for checking those physical and environmental causes.
Why can I hear game audio but not party chat?
PULSE 3D has separate CHAT and GAME controls, so one audio source can be much louder than the other. Adjust the relative levels with those buttons; pressing CHAT and GAME simultaneously resets the balance.

- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- VOLUME WHEEL — Its on-headset control makes it convenient to adjust audio levels without having to fiddle with any system or program settings
If the game is audible but voices are not, first press CHAT to raise the chat level relative to game audio. If voices are audible but the game is too loud, use GAME to adjust the balance in the other direction. After adjusting, check the sound again before changing unrelated console settings.
If both game and chat are missing, the issue may be the overall headphone output rather than the balance between them. On PS5, open the Control Center, choose Sound, and check the headphone volume and output. A balance adjustment cannot restore audio if headphone output is turned down or the wrong output is selected.
How do I fix PULSE 3D echo on PS5?
Lower the microphone level in the PS5 sound settings. Go to Settings > Sound > Microphone > Adjust Microphone Level and move the fader two to four notches to the left.
Test chat after moving the fader. If echo continues, reset the headset using the adapter procedure above. Changing microphone level is the targeted first step; resetting is the next troubleshooting action if that adjustment does not resolve it.

What should I do if the PULSE 3D headset will not charge?
Try a different USB port and a different cable before assuming the battery or headset has failed. Charge the headset from a supported USB device and allow enough time for a full charge: Sony says it may take up to 3.5 hours.
- Connect the headset to a supported USB device for charging.
- If it does not appear to charge, try another console USB port.
- Try a different cable as well, changing one item at a time where practical.
- Allow up to 3.5 hours for a full charge before judging how long a complete charge takes.
Changing the port and cable helps separate a charging-path problem from a headset problem. The available guidance does not establish a separate charging indicator diagnosis, so use the alternate-port and alternate-cable checks rather than treating a particular light pattern as proof of a failed battery.
When should I replace the headset or its adapter?
Try the connection, interference, reset, audio-setting, and charging checks that match the symptom before replacing anything. If the failure remains, identify whether the likely problem is the headset, its battery or audio hardware, or the USB wireless adapter; a lost or defective adapter is a different failure point from a headset fault.
For a replacement decision, check the exact model and the intended console. The PULSE 3D models CFI-ZWH1 and CFI-ZWD1 are listed as compatible with PS5 and PS4. A different PlayStation headset may use a dedicated USB wireless adapter, a 3.5 mm analog connection, or another supported USB design, so confirm its connection method and console compatibility rather than assuming it works the same way.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a PULSE 3D headset battery last?
The PlayStation Blog estimated up to 12 hours of wireless play from the built-in rechargeable battery in a 2020 post. That is an estimate, not a guarantee for every headset or usage pattern.

Does a blinking PULSE 3D indicator mean the headset is broken?
Not by itself: the headset blinks while pairing, and the indicator becomes solid when it connects. Check the adapter’s connection and nearby interference before treating a blinking indicator as evidence of a hardware fault.
Can I use any USB wireless adapter with a PULSE 3D headset?
The compatibility information here identifies the PULSE 3D USB wireless adapter, not generic USB adapters. Confirm that a replacement is specified for PULSE 3D and the console you use.
