AI-video flicker, melting faces, and jerky motion are usually symptoms of unstable visual instructions or weak frame-to-frame references—not problems that a single sharpening filter can solve. The most reliable fix is to replace a flawed source image, generate a short shot with one clearly defined action, carry identity references forward, and reserve temporal filters or face recovery for restrained post-production. Some defects can be repaired without a full rerender; others are cheaper and cleaner to regenerate.
This guide shows how to diagnose each failure, rebuild the shot, extend a sequence without identity drift, and decide when tools such as Premiere’s Anti-flicker Filter or desktop enhancement software will help rather than create new artifacts.

Most defects trace to one of six conditions: an ambiguous prompt, conflicting motion cues, a damaged input frame, an action that is too complex, a clip that is too long for the model to maintain identity, or post-processing that has to invent motion between very different frames. These causes can overlap. For example, a blurry face in the input may become a changing face during image-to-video conversion, while interpolation can add a second layer of wobble afterward.
- Unstable source details: The image-to-video model treats the input image as the first frame. Blurry hands, malformed eyes, compression damage, and motion blur can be intensified rather than corrected.
- Competing instructions: Asking the camera to push in and remain locked, or asking a subject to stand still while also turning rapidly, gives the model incompatible targets.
- Overloaded action: Multiple characters, several transformations, and a camera move in one short generation create too many relationships to preserve.
- Insufficient temporal conditioning: Long clips and weak character references allow clothing, facial structure, and proportions to drift.
- Missing motion parameters: A prompt that names only an object does not tell the model its direction, speed, timing, or the camera’s behavior.
- Invented intermediate frames: Interpolation estimates what should appear between frames. If adjacent frames differ dramatically, the result can strobe, bend, or wobble.
There is no dependable universal defect percentage to quote: official guidance describes failure modes and remedies, not a measured prevalence rate. Treat each clip as a diagnosis problem and inspect the source, generation settings, and post-processing history separately.

How should I inspect the source frame before generating?
Start with the still image, because an image-to-video model cannot reliably preserve anatomy that is already ambiguous. Replace the frame instead of trying to animate through obvious damage.
Use a clean reference
Choose the highest-quality image available, with faces, hands, clothing edges, and important props in focus. Remove heavy compression, severe motion blur, duplicated fingers, asymmetrical eyes, and accidental objects before uploading. Runway’s image-to-video guidance specifically warns that artifacts in the input can be intensified in the resulting video.

Check whether the requested movement is visible in the pose
A still image showing a person seated does not provide strong evidence for a full sprint, spin, or complex interaction. Either choose an image whose pose supports the movement or reduce the action to a motion that follows the visible cues. Contradictory cues—such as a locked pose combined with a request for violent body rotation—are common causes of warped limbs and unstable backgrounds.
Prepare close-ups more carefully
Faces and hands occupy many pixels in a close-up, so small generation errors are conspicuous. Use a sharp, front-facing or deliberately posed reference when identity matters. If the source face is already soft or partially hidden, expect more variation and plan to regenerate that segment rather than relying on recovery filters alone.
How do I simplify a prompt so the shot stays stable?
Design each generation as one short scene with one principal action. Direct, positive wording gives the model fewer interpretations than a paragraph of negatives and exceptions.
State the camera behavior first
Use an explicit instruction such as The locked camera remains still when the viewpoint should not move. If the camera moves, name one move—such as a slow pan left—and do not add a simultaneous zoom, orbit, and handheld shake unless the model’s documentation confirms that combination is reliable.

Describe the action in one sentence
Write a subject-action relationship, for example: The woman walks forward while the man remains still. Avoid chaining unrelated events such as walking, changing clothes, turning into smoke, and cutting to a new location in one prompt. Generate those beats as separate shots and edit them together.
Use positive phrasing
Runway’s Gen-4 prompting guidance recommends positive phrasing only. Instead of stacking prohibitions—“no shaking, no warping, do not move the camera”—state the intended behavior directly: The camera remains locked and the background stays stable while the subject raises her hand slowly. Positive wording does not guarantee success, but it removes conflicts caused by competing negative instructions.
Put ordered actions in order
When events must happen sequentially, write the sequence explicitly or use timestamps supported by the generator. A structure such as 0–2 seconds: the subject looks left; 2–4 seconds: she walks forward is clearer than listing both actions without timing. Keep the order short enough that the model can preserve the first action before beginning the next.
Which motion details should a prompt include?
A dependable motion prompt covers the subject, environment, camera, timing, direction, and speed. Runway’s guidance emphasizes describing how the scene moves rather than merely repeating objects already visible in the image.
- Subject action: Name the body movement and its target, such as “raises the right hand toward the window.”
- Environmental motion: Include only movement that matters, such as “curtains move gently to the right.” Remove dust, wind, rain, or smoke if those cues conflict with a still background.
- Camera movement: Specify locked, pan, tilt, dolly, or another single move, together with direction.
- Timing: Say when an action starts, stops, or follows another action.
- Direction: State left/right, toward/away, up/down, or a clear screen direction.
- Speed: Use measured language such as slow, steady, or rapid only when it matches the shot’s intended rhythm.
Do not request motion that contradicts visible cues. If the image contains blur suggesting fast movement but the prompt calls for a statue-like pose, remove the blur or rewrite the action. The model is resolving both the pixels and the text; contradictory evidence increases instability.
How long should an AI-video shot be?
Short segments are easier to keep coherent. NVIDIA’s LTX-2.3 guidance recommends one clear motion and says that clips up to five seconds—121 frames in that guidance—significantly improve end-frame adherence. Treat five seconds as a practical ceiling for a difficult shot, not a promise that every scene will remain stable for that duration.

Use shorter generations for difficult actions
Close-up faces, fast turns, occlusions, reflective surfaces, and interactions between several people deserve shorter attempts. Generate the cleanest beat first, then build the sequence from adjacent references instead of forcing every event into one long clip.
Control identity with a reference or LoRA
For a recurring character, use a character reference or a subject LoRA when the generator supports it. LTX-2.3 guidance specifically recommends a subject LoRA for recurring characters. This conditions identity more strongly than hoping the model will infer the same face from a text description on every call.

For LTX-2.3, the cited guidance recommends CFG 3.0–3.5. Apply that range only to that model and workflow; it is not a universal setting for every generator. Record the model, prompt, reference images, duration, and guidance value for each successful shot so a repair attempt can reproduce the same conditions.
How can I extend a sequence without changing the character?
Carry visual evidence from one finished shot into the next instead of starting every segment from an unrelated still. Runway recommends extracting the last frame of a finished clip and using it as the next image input when extending a sequence.
- Render the first short shot and inspect its final frames for a clean face, hands, wardrobe, and background.
- Export the last usable frame at the generator’s required resolution.
- Use that frame as the next image input, then describe only the new action.
- Keep the camera position and lighting language consistent unless the cut intentionally changes them.
- Join the shots only after checking the boundary at full speed and frame-by-frame.
Adobe Premiere’s generative workflow also supports first-frame, last-frame, and multiple reference frames for continuity. Multiple references are useful when the beginning and ending poses must both be respected; a single carried frame is simpler when the next shot starts immediately where the previous one ends.
Can I repair a generated clip without regenerating it?
Yes, when the defect is localized and the underlying frames still contain usable detail. Post-production can reduce noise, stabilize a camera, recover a face, or soften flicker. It cannot reliably reconstruct a face that changes identity throughout a shot or make a fundamentally contradictory motion physically coherent; those cases are better regenerated as shorter segments.

Use the least aggressive repair first
Topaz Video provides denoising, stabilization, motion deblur, frame interpolation, and face-recovery options. Apply one operation at a time and preview the result at native size. Denoising can calm unstable texture; stabilization can remove unwanted camera shake; motion deblur can help a readable edge; face recovery can improve a localized facial defect.
Be cautious with interpolation
Interpolation depends on motion estimation. Topaz cautions that drastic frame changes, reflective water, patterned motion, and extreme parallax can produce strobing or wobble. Do not interpolate footage merely because it is short; first confirm that neighboring frames have trackable features and manageable displacement.
Reduce flicker with temporal filtering
Premiere’s Anti-flicker Filter can reduce brightness or texture changes between frames. Adobe notes that increasing its strength removes more flicker but makes the image softer. Preview several strength levels and stop when the flicker is acceptable without erasing facial detail or fine texture.
Cut around an unrecoverable moment
If only a few frames contain a melted face or a warped hand, trim that moment, use a cutaway, or replace the short section with a regenerated insert. A clean edit is often less distracting than applying heavy recovery to an entire clip.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What is the fastest fix for each visible symptom?
| Symptom | Likely cause | First fixes |
|---|---|---|
| Brightness or texture flicker | Frame-to-frame generation changes, unstable detail, or aggressive interpolation | Shorten the shot; simplify the action; carry a consistent reference; then try restrained temporal cleanup or Anti-flicker filtering. |
| Melting face, changing eyes, or shifting teeth | Low-quality source, close-up anatomy failure, or identity drift | Replace the source frame; reduce motion complexity; use a character reference or subject LoRA; apply localized face recovery or inpainting where available. |
| Identity or wardrobe changes | Long clip, too many actions, or weak identity conditioning | Generate shorter segments, one action at a time, and carry the last frame or character reference forward. |
| Warping camera or background | Multiple camera moves, contradictory spatial cues, or excessive parallax | Specify one camera move, use clear positional language, and cut or regenerate the unstable moment. |
| Floaty or jerky motion | Direction and speed are unspecified, or interpolation lacks reliable correspondences | State direction and speed, simplify the action, and interpolate only footage with manageable frame-to-frame change. |
What should I regenerate, and what should I fix in post?
Use regeneration when the model chose the wrong structure; use post-production when the structure is correct but the presentation is unstable. The decision is easier when you separate identity, geometry, and texture problems.
| Problem type | Preferred action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong pose, wrong direction, or contradictory camera move | Regenerate | A filter cannot infer the intended spatial relationship from incorrect frames. |
| Face changes identity across most of the clip | Regenerate with a better reference, shorter duration, or character conditioning | Recovery can sharpen a face but does not restore a consistent identity that was never present. |
| One or two soft or noisy sections | Localized enhancement or a cut | The rest of the shot is usable, so a full rerender may introduce new variation. |
| Small brightness pulsing with stable geometry | Restrained Anti-flicker or temporal cleanup | The motion is already correct; only frame-to-frame appearance needs smoothing. |
| Large gaps between frames, reflective water, or patterned motion | Avoid interpolation; regenerate or edit around the section | Motion estimation has weak correspondences and may create new strobing or wobble. |
How do generation and repair tools differ?
No single tool controls every part of the workflow. The practical choice depends on whether you need new frames, continuity references, or conservative cleanup of footage you already have.
Best Value
| Capability | Image-to-video generation | Premiere reference-frame workflow | Desktop enhancement workflow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identity and reference-frame control | Depends on the model and available character conditioning | Supports first-frame, last-frame, and multiple reference frames | Works on existing frames; does not recreate missing identity reliably |
| Camera and subject-motion control | Prompt-driven; simplify to one clear motion | Prompt and reference driven for a new segment | Limited to correcting or smoothing captured motion |
| Maximum practical shot duration | Model-specific; LTX-2.3 guidance recommends up to five seconds for difficult adherence | Depends on the generation model and reference setup | Processes the supplied clip length, but longer clips do not solve generation drift |
| Regenerate only a defective segment | Yes, by creating a short replacement shot | Yes, with boundary references | No; it enhances or filters existing frames |
| Temporal consistency of enhancement | Can vary between generations | Depends on the generated segment | Filters may smooth or stabilize, but excessive strength can soften detail |
| Risk of new interpolation artifacts | Not applicable unless frames are later interpolated | Not inherent to reference prompting | Highest when adjacent frames differ greatly, especially with water, patterns, or extreme parallax |
| Processing and hardware | Typically cloud or model-dependent; exact requirements vary | Desktop editing workflow with generation features that depend on the installed version and model access | Desktop processing; speed and hardware requirements depend on resolution, effect, and system |
What is a repeatable repair workflow?
Use the following order so you do not spend time polishing a shot whose source or motion plan is unsound.
- Classify the defect. Decide whether it is texture flicker, anatomy, identity, camera geometry, or motion timing.
- Inspect the first frame. Replace blurry faces, malformed hands, and heavy artifacts before another generation.
- Reduce the scene. Keep one principal action and one camera behavior. Remove conflicting negatives and unrelated events.
- Rewrite motion explicitly. Add subject action, environmental movement, camera direction, timing, and speed, while matching visible cues.
- Shorten the clip. For difficult shots, stay well below the model’s practical limit; for LTX-2.3, the cited guidance favors up to five seconds and 121 frames.
- Lock identity. Add a character reference or subject LoRA where supported, and preserve the last clean frame for the next segment.
- Regenerate the smallest necessary unit. Replace the unstable beat rather than rerendering an entire sequence.
- Apply one post effect at a time. Test denoise, stabilization, deblur, face recovery, or Anti-flicker separately and compare at native resolution.
- Reject harmful interpolation. If the footage contains drastic changes, reflective water, patterned motion, or extreme parallax, do not add interpolated frames.
- Inspect the edit boundary. Watch at normal speed, then step through the join to catch a reference mismatch before export.
How do I prevent the same defects on the next shot?
- Keep a shot log containing the model, duration, reference image, guidance value, prompt, and successful seed or project settings when available.
- Build sequences from short, independently reviewable shots instead of one long generation.
- Use the final clean frame as the next starting image whenever continuity matters.
- Separate camera motion from subject motion in the wording so a failure has an identifiable cause.
- Review faces and hands at 100% before applying any upscale, interpolation, or stylization.
- Preserve an unprocessed master so a strong filter can be removed without another generation.
- Preview every temporal effect on the most difficult section, not only on a static opening frame.
The central principle is to solve structure upstream and appearance downstream: regenerate incorrect motion or identity, then use restrained filters for localized temporal or image-quality defects.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an AI-video face be fixed if it changes for only a few frames?
Often, yes. Trim or replace the short interval, or apply localized face recovery or inpainting while leaving the stable frames untouched. Check the repaired section at normal playback speed and at frame-by-frame inspection, because an overly strong recovery pass can make the face look unnaturally soft.
Why does flicker return after I export the video?
A flicker pass may hide changes at one preview scale while compression, scaling, or a different frame-rate conversion makes them visible again. Review the final export settings and inspect the encoded file, not only the editing timeline, before deciding whether to increase filter strength.
Should I interpolate every AI clip to make motion smoother?
No. Interpolation is safest when adjacent frames have clear, trackable correspondences. Reflective water, repeating patterns, extreme parallax, or large frame-to-frame changes can produce new strobing and wobble, so a shorter regenerated shot or a clean edit is safer.
What should I save when a generation finally looks right?
Keep the clean source image, the last frame used for continuation, the exact prompt, model and duration, identity reference or LoRA, and the unprocessed render. Those assets let you recreate a matching segment instead of guessing after a later edit introduces drift.
