Win + Xand select Device Manager. - Expand the category related to the failure, such as Display adapters, Network adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, Bluetooth, Universal Serial Bus controllers or Printers.
- Right-click the suspected device and choose Properties. On the Driver tab, check the driver provider, date and version against the time the problem began.
- Choose Roll Back Driver when it is available and the issue follows a recent update. Restart and test.
- If rollback is unavailable, choose Update Driver and let Windows search, or install a matching driver obtained from the device manufacturer. Avoid mixing drivers intended for a different model or Windows edition.
- If the driver is damaged and an appropriate replacement is available, choose Uninstall Device, restart, and install the correct driver. Do not remove a device when you cannot restore basic input, display or network access without a recovery plan.
When Device Manager shows a code that is not listed in Microsoft’s guidance, Microsoft advises seeking help from the hardware vendor or Microsoft Support. Provide the device model, driver version, Windows build and the full status text.
How do I test the problem in Safe Mode?
Safe Mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup services. If the error disappears there, a third-party driver or startup service becomes more likely; if it remains, the cause may be closer to Windows, the hardware or the application itself.

- Open Settings > System > Recovery.
- Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After the restart, press 4 for Safe Mode or 5 for Safe Mode with Networking when internet access is required.
Windows 10
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
- Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart, then press 4 or 5.
In Safe Mode, inspect Device Manager, remove or update the recently changed component, and retry the operation that produced the code. If the failure occurs only in normal startup, review recently installed services and applications rather than repeatedly changing core Windows files.
What storage, update and firmware checks should I make?
Microsoft’s advanced troubleshooting guidance recommends current Windows updates, BIOS or firmware checks, hardware and memory tests, malware scanning and sufficient free disk space. A practical target in that guidance is 10–15% free space.

- Check space: Open File Explorer > This PC and inspect the Windows drive. Remove or move files only after confirming they are not needed, and keep at least the 10–15% target where practical.
- Install updates: On Windows 11, use Settings > Windows Update. On Windows 10, use Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Restart when requested and test again.
- Check BIOS and firmware: Compare the computer or device manufacturer’s current firmware information with your installed version. Follow that manufacturer’s instructions and do not interrupt a firmware update.
- Test hardware and memory: Use the diagnostics supplied by the computer or device manufacturer, and run a memory test when crashes or unexplained restarts accompany the code.
- Run a malware scan: Use your installed security software’s normal scan and review any detections before deleting or quarantining files.
These checks address conditions that can produce secondary application or device errors, but they cannot establish that 0x011CB260 itself is a Windows defect.
What if only one application shows the error?
Keep the troubleshooting focused on that application when Windows and other programs work normally. Install the application’s latest compatible update, remove a recently added extension or plug-in, and use its built-in repair option when available.

When should I use System Restore or another recovery option?
Use recovery after recording the evidence and trying the context-specific steps, especially when the problem began after a driver, update or system change and normal operation remains impaired.
- Back up personal files while Windows is still usable.
- Open Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore, or enter Windows Recovery Environment through Settings > System > Recovery > Advanced startup on Windows 11 or Settings > Update & Security > Recovery on Windows 10.
- Select a restore point dated before the change, review the affected programs and drivers, and start the restore.
- If no suitable restore point exists or Windows cannot start reliably, choose the recovery option that matches the situation and follow its backup and reset warnings.
A recovery operation can remove recently installed drivers or applications. Keep the original error text and logs so you can identify the triggering change if the code returns.

How should I escalate an unknown 0x011CB260 error?

No. Reinstalling can remove applications, settings and evidence. First identify the source, test the recent driver or hardware change, install updates, and try an appropriate restore point; reserve a reset or reinstall for cases where those steps and backups are complete.
Is it safe to ignore the message if it appeared only once?
A one-time status with no continuing symptoms may be transient, but keep the screenshot and timestamp. If it recurs, affects the same device or appears with crashes, freezes or data errors, investigate before the failure becomes harder to reproduce.
