The two menu paths are not interchangeable: Windows 11 places the utility under System, while Windows 10 places it under Update & Security. If the code came from a third-party application, this troubleshooter is not the appropriate first tool because it does not establish that the application uses Windows Update.
Which upgrade blockers should I remove?

Disconnect nonessential hardware
Shut down and disconnect peripherals that are not required to boot or operate the installer, including docking stations, external storage, printers, and specialty USB devices. Leave only essential input, display, and network hardware connected. Reconnect devices after the upgrade succeeds so a particular peripheral can be identified if the error returns.

How do I repair the Windows image with DISM and SFC?
When the troubleshooter and upgrade cleanup do not resolve an update-related failure, Microsoft Learn lists Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) as the first diagnostic repair step. Run it from an elevated Command Prompt, allow it to finish, restart, and then perform the file-corruption checks in Microsoft’s repair guidance.
- Open Start, type
Command Prompt, right-click it, and choose Run as administrator. Approve the User Account Control prompt. - Enter
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthand press Enter. - Wait for DISM to complete. Do not close the window or power off the PC while it is servicing the image.

- Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run
sfc /scannowto perform the applicable system-file corruption check. - Restart once more, then run Windows Update or retry the upgrade that originally produced the code.
DISM repairs the running Windows image; System File Checker checks protected system files after that image repair. If either command reports that it could not complete, keep the exact wording and completion percentage for escalation instead of repeatedly interrupting the process.

How do I install the update manually from Microsoft Update Catalog?
