- Reopen the application and perform the same action once.
- If a printer is involved, turn it off, unplug its power for about 30 seconds, reconnect it, turn it on, and wait until it finishes its startup cycle before retrying.
If the error returns, stop repeating the action and follow the branch that matches the symptom. Repeatedly submitting a print job, for example, can create duplicate jobs in the queue.
Does the error appear when you print?

How do I check a USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth printer connection?
Connection checks depend on how the printer reaches the computer. A printer that is powered on can still be unavailable if its cable, network, or pairing state is wrong.

How do I remove and add the printer again?
Removing and re-adding the device rebuilds its Windows registration. Use it when the printer is missing, shown as unavailable, or present with stale settings after the connection has been checked.

An outdated, corrupted, or missing driver can prevent Windows from communicating with a printer. Update the existing driver first; reinstall it when updating does not change the behavior.

Update through Device Manager
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand the printer-related category, select the affected device, right-click it, and choose Update driver.
- Let Windows search for an available driver and complete the installation if one is offered.
- Restart Windows and test a single print job.
Reinstall the manufacturer driver
- In Device Manager, right-click the printer and choose Uninstall device. Confirm only the printer device you intend to remove.
- Restart Windows. The restart allows Windows to unload the old device instance.
- Obtain the current driver for the exact printer model from the printer manufacturer’s official support channel. Do not substitute a driver for a similar model.
- Install the driver, reconnect or re-add the printer when the installer requests it, and print a test page.
Record the driver version before and after the change. If the manufacturer supplies separate packages for Windows 10 and Windows 11, select the package that matches your edition and architecture. A driver change will not repair a broken network connection or a stuck queue by itself.
How do I clear a frozen print queue and restart Print Spooler?
Print Spooler manages queued jobs. When jobs remain pending, printing stops, or an application hangs at Ctrl+P, clear the queue and restart the service before reinstalling every device.
Cancel jobs normally
- Open your printer in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 11, or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 10.
- Select the printer and open its queue.
- Cancel each unnecessary or duplicate job. Wait briefly for the queue to empty.
- Retry one small document.
Restart the Print Spooler service
- Press Windows key + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Find Print Spooler in the service list.
- Right-click it and choose Restart. If Restart is unavailable, choose Stop, wait for the service to stop, then choose Start.
- Return to the printer queue and submit one test job.
Clear the spool folder when jobs will not disappear
- Open
services.msc, right-click Print Spooler, and choose Stop. - In File Explorer, enter
%WINDIR%system32spoolPRINTERSin the address bar. Approve an administrator prompt if Windows requests one. - Delete the files inside that PRINTERS folder, not the folder itself. This removes pending print jobs.
- Return to
services.mscand choose Start for Print Spooler. - Reopen the application and print a test page.
Stopping the service is required before deleting spool files; otherwise files may be locked or recreated. If the queue immediately fills again, remove duplicate or unnecessary printer drivers and install the latest manufacturer driver before testing again.

What if the code appears in only one application?
When another application can use the same printer or device, the problem is more likely isolated to the failing program’s integration, configuration, or document workflow than to the hardware itself.
