If an EA app cloud-save sync problem affects Mass Effect or Dragon Age, first protect any local saves you can find. Then check whether the problem is an EA app connection or account issue, or whether the specific game supports the transfer you expect. Clearing the EA app cache can help with some app problems, but it is not a documented way to recover a missing save.
The safest approach is deliberately conservative: stop actions that could overwrite a save, identify the game and platform involved, preserve every intact copy, and only then test app-side fixes. A message that mentions cloud saves does not prove that a cloud copy exists or that the title supports moving progress between systems.

What kind of cloud-save problem are you trying to fix?
“Cloud-save sync problem” describes what you see, not necessarily what caused it. An offline or authentication error is different from a game that keeps progress only on one computer, and both are different from a missing local save.
| What you see | What it may indicate | First response |
|---|---|---|
| The EA app reports an offline, network, or authentication problem | An app connection or account issue | Check the signed-in EA Account, service status, and connection. |
| A save exists on one computer but not another | The game may not transfer saves automatically between those systems | Preserve the existing local save before trying to move or replace anything. |
| A cloud-versus-local replacement prompt appears | The app may be asking you to choose between copies whose age you cannot yet verify | Stop, make independent backups, and identify the newer intact copy first. |
| The game starts with no campaign progress | A missing or inaccessible local save, the wrong account, or a title-specific limitation | Do not create or overwrite progress until you have searched for existing files. |
| Dragon Age: Inquisition offers story choices from an earlier game | Dragon Age Keep world-state import, not the active campaign save | Treat the Keep import separately from campaign-save troubleshooting. |
These distinctions matter because an app repair cannot create a missing local file, and a story-choice import is not a copy of campaign progress. Start by preserving files, then troubleshoot the app symptoms and check what is known about the particular game.

How do you protect a save before troubleshooting?
Make a separate copy of any local save folder you can find before launching the game again, reinstalling, attempting another sync, or choosing a cloud-versus-local replacement prompt. This gives you a fallback if a later action replaces the copy you wanted to keep.
- Close the game. Avoid making more progress in one copy while you are trying to determine which save is current. If the game is open, close it normally before examining files.
- Find the local save folder. For Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Windows, an EA community manager identified the default location as
Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect Legendary Edition > Save. Treat that as guidance for this game and Windows, not a universal path for every edition or operating system. - Check the actual Documents location. Windows Documents folders can be redirected. Look in the Documents location used by your computer, including a backup or cloud-backed Documents folder if you use one. Do not assume that the default path is present on every installation.
- Look for more than one intact copy. If you have used another computer, a backup service, or a redirected Documents folder, check each relevant location. A second folder may represent a different date or computer, so do not delete either while comparing them.
- Copy the folder somewhere separate. Keep the copy distinct from the original and do not move files into a different save folder unless you have confirmed the destination and which copy is newer. A USB flash drive or other external storage is an optional place for a second manual backup; it does not repair cloud sync and no particular capacity is required by the guidance.
- Record which copy you believe is current. Note which computer it came from and when you last played. If you later see a replacement prompt, do not choose an option until you can identify the intact save you intend to keep.
- Keep the original untouched while testing. Work from a duplicate when possible. This preserves an evidence copy for EA Help and reduces the chance that a launch, reinstall, or replacement choice changes the only file you have.
There is no universal cloud-versus-local conflict rule established for these games in EA’s guidance. If you cannot tell which version is newer, preserve both and avoid replacing either one while you investigate. “Cloud” is not automatically the newer copy, and “local” is not automatically the older one.

When the app reports an authentication, network, or connection error, check the account and service basics before treating the message as evidence that a save has been deleted.
- Confirm the signed-in account. Make sure the EA app is signed into the EA Account associated with the game and the save history you expect. EA says account data, including saves and achievements, is associated with the EA Account; moving a game to another account does not move that data.
- Check ownership and the expected library. If the game or its history is absent, verify that the app is showing the account that owns the title. A different account can make expected content and account-associated data appear missing without proving that a local file was erased.
- Check EA service status. If an EA service is unavailable, retrying a sync or changing local files may not help while the service problem continues. EA’s cache guidance also warns that clearing cache cannot fix an outage.
- Check the network connection. Resolve an obvious connection problem and retry the app when service is available. A connection error and a game’s lack of save-transfer support are separate issues, so a successful app connection does not establish that a save will transfer between systems.
- Read the exact error or prompt. Record its wording. A sign-in error, a sync conflict, and a missing save folder point to different troubleshooting paths. Keep a screenshot or written copy for support.
- Note recent account or computer changes. Changing the signed-in account, moving to another computer, reinstalling, or switching launch arrangements can affect what you see. Include those facts when asking for help rather than assuming they are unrelated.
EA’s account-level description explains the relationship between account data and an EA Account; it does not establish the save-sync behavior of every individual game, storefront, or platform. An account check can rule out one class of problem, but it cannot turn a title without automatic transfer into a cross-device cloud-save system.
When should you clear the EA app cache?
Use cache clearing as an app-side troubleshooting step when the EA app is stuck in offline mode, will not update itself, has download problems, or does not show games in the Library. EA does not describe it as a procedure for restoring deleted or missing local saves.

- On Windows: open the EA app menu and select
App Recovery. - On macOS: open
Helpand selectApp Recovery. - Follow the recovery options shown by the app, then check whether the original app symptom has changed.
- Afterward, check the game and the save folder separately. A repaired Library display or resolved offline message is not proof that a campaign save has returned.
Menu wording and app behavior can change. Cache clearing can be reasonable for an app that is stuck or failing to update, but it should come after you make your independent save copy. EA specifically cautions that cache clearing cannot fix an outage. Do not use it as a substitute for checking the signed-in account, service status, or local files.

| Situation | What to compare | Safer next step |
|---|---|---|
| Same PC, same account, app error | App symptom versus local-file presence | Back up the local folder, then address account, service, network, or cache symptoms. |
| Another Windows PC | Local copy on the original PC versus what the title supports between PCs | Preserve the original and investigate manual movement only from copies. |
| PC to console | Platform compatibility, not merely account sign-in | Do not infer portability from PC-to-PC guidance. |
| Inquisition story choices | Keep world state versus active campaign save | Use Keep for importing choices into a new game, not as a campaign recovery tool. |
| Cloud/local conflict prompt | Which intact copy is newer and valuable | Cancel or pause if uncertain; preserve both copies before selecting a replacement. |
This comparison prevents a common mistake: treating every message containing “cloud” as the same failure. A service outage, a wrong account, a local-only save design, and a missing file require different actions.
Does Mass Effect Legendary Edition transfer saves between systems?
An EA community manager’s older EA Forums response says Mass Effect Legendary Edition saves are stored locally and do not automatically transfer between systems. The response says manual movement between PCs may be possible, but it is not a current guarantee for every edition, platform, or storefront.
If both systems are Windows PCs
First make a separate backup of the save folder on the computer that has the progress you want. The cited EA guidance gives the default Windows location as Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect Legendary Edition > Save. If you attempt a manual PC-to-PC move, work from copies and take care not to overwrite a newer or otherwise valuable save on the destination computer.
Compare the source and destination before doing anything irreversible. Identify which computer contains the campaign you want, preserve that folder separately, and only then consider placing a copied folder in the destination’s corresponding location. The forum response describes possible manual movement between PCs; it does not provide a universal migration procedure for every installation. The Documents location may also be redirected, so verify where the game’s files actually reside instead of assuming the default path applies unchanged.

If the destination already contains progress, keep that folder as its own backup. A manual copy is a file-management operation, not proof that EA’s cloud service will reconcile the two versions. If the game or app presents a replacement choice afterward, stop and identify the newer intact copy rather than accepting the first option.
If you are moving between a PC and a console
Do not infer cross-platform compatibility from the PC-to-PC guidance. The same older forum response said transfer to Xbox was not planned at the time of that response. That is a dated statement, not confirmation of current support across all Mass Effect releases or platforms. The evidence does not justify promising that a PC save can be placed on a console, or that signing into the same EA Account will make it appear there.
If your edition is different
Keep the scope of the guidance narrow. The named save path and local-storage statement concern Mass Effect Legendary Edition and a Windows example. They do not establish behavior for every earlier Mass Effect release, every operating system, or every storefront. Confirm the exact edition and platform when contacting EA Help.
Is Dragon Age Keep the same as an Inquisition cloud save?
No. Dragon Age: Inquisition uses Dragon Age Keep to set or import earlier-game story choices into a new Inquisition game. Those choices form a story world state; they are not the active campaign save file.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If an Inquisition campaign save is missing, using Keep should not be treated as a way to recover that campaign. The official manual describes Keep as a story-choice import tool, while EA forum discussions about local folders and cloud mismatches are user reports rather than a definitive current recovery procedure. An empty local folder does not, on the evidence available, guarantee that a cloud copy can be restored.

Keep is therefore relevant when you are starting a new Inquisition game and want prior decisions represented. It is not a replacement for the folder containing an existing character’s campaign progress. Changing or importing a world state should not be described as rewriting a lost campaign, and starting a new game should wait until you have preserved any remaining local files.
What common mistakes can make the situation worse?
- Launching repeatedly before making a copy. New activity can make it harder to determine which version was present first. Preserve files before testing.
- Choosing a replacement option by guesswork. Without knowing which copy is newer, either choice can discard the version you wanted.
- Assuming the cloud copy is always authoritative. The cited guidance does not give a universal conflict-resolution rule for these games.
- Using the Mass Effect path for another title. The folder example is for Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Windows, not every Mass Effect or Dragon Age installation.
- Confusing account access with portability. The same EA Account relationship does not establish cross-device or cross-platform save transfer for each game.
- Expecting cache recovery to restore files. Cache clearing targets app symptoms such as offline mode, updating, downloads, or a missing Library item; it is not documented save recovery.
- Treating Keep as a backup. Keep imports prior-game choices into a new Inquisition game; it does not hold the active campaign save.
- Deleting the only copy during cleanup. Do not remove local folders or backups while the cause is still unknown.
What should you do if the save is still missing?
If you cannot find the save locally and the app does not retrieve it, EA’s documented steps do not establish a guaranteed recovery route. Contact EA Help with enough detail to distinguish an account problem, an app error, and a game-specific save issue.
- The exact game and edition, such as Mass Effect Legendary Edition or Dragon Age: Inquisition
- Your platform and storefront
- The EA Account signed into the app
- The exact sync prompt or error text
- Whether any local save folders remain and where you found them
- Which computer or platform last showed the progress
- Recent changes, such as using another computer, changing accounts, or reinstalling the app or game
- Whether service-status or connection problems were present when the issue occurred
Keep your backup copies unchanged while seeking help. Do not describe cache clearing, Keep imports, or a successful sign-in as proof that a missing campaign save has been restored. Support may need the edition, platform, account, and error details to determine whether the problem is app-side or a limitation of the title.
A cautious decision flow
- Stop making progress. Close the game and avoid accepting a cloud/local replacement prompt.
- Search and preserve. Find every relevant local folder, including the actual Documents location and any backup or redirected location, and make a separate copy.
- Classify the symptom. Decide whether you have an offline or authentication message, a missing Library item, a conflict prompt, a save present on only one computer, or no local save at all.
- Check account and service basics. Verify the EA Account, service status, and network before changing files.
- Use App Recovery only for app symptoms. On Windows use the EA app menu’s App Recovery; on macOS use Help and App Recovery. Recheck the save independently afterward.
- Apply title-specific expectations. Scope the local/manual-transfer guidance to Mass Effect Legendary Edition; keep Dragon Age Keep separate from an Inquisition campaign save.
- Escalate with evidence. Give EA Help the edition, platform, account, exact message, local-file status, and recent changes. Do not promise yourself or others that a missing save can be restored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I move a Mass Effect save from Steam to the EA app?
The EA Forums guidance described here addresses local saves and possible manual movement between PCs, but it does not establish a Steam-to-EA-app migration procedure. Storefront-specific save behavior should be confirmed for the exact installation before copying or replacing files.
Will reinstalling the EA app bring back a missing Dragon Age save?
EA’s app troubleshooting guidance does not identify reinstalling the app as a save-recovery method. Before changing an installation, check whether any local save copy remains and preserve it separately.

Can Dragon Age Keep import my choices after I start a new Inquisition game?
The official manual describes Keep as a way to set or import prior-game story choices into a new Inquisition game. It does not establish that changing Keep later will rewrite an existing campaign or recover its progress.
Does signing into the same EA Account put my Mass Effect save on another PC?
Not necessarily. The older EA Forums guidance for Mass Effect Legendary Edition says saves are stored locally and do not automatically transfer between systems. Account association and cross-device save support are separate questions.
Can I use a USB drive to repair EA cloud sync?
A USB flash drive or other external storage can hold a separate manual copy of a local save folder before troubleshooting or a possible PC-to-PC move. It is optional backup storage, not a repair for cloud synchronization.
Should I choose the cloud copy or local copy in a conflict prompt?
Do not choose by assumption. Preserve both copies first and identify which one is newer and intact. The guidance does not establish one universal conflict-resolution rule for these games.
Will clearing the EA app cache recover a deleted save?
No documented EA procedure says that it will. Cache recovery can address app symptoms such as offline mode, updating, downloads, or a missing Library item, and EA warns it cannot fix an outage. Check local save copies separately.
Does an empty Dragon Age save folder prove that a cloud copy can be restored?
No. An empty local folder does not guarantee cloud recovery. Dragon Age forum reports about folders and mismatches are anecdotal, and Dragon Age Keep is a story-choice import tool rather than a campaign-save backup.
What should I tell EA Help about a missing save?
Provide the exact game and edition, platform and storefront, signed-in EA Account, exact error or prompt, locations and status of local save folders, the last computer or platform where progress appeared, and recent account, app, or installation changes.
The Bottom Line
Protect every local save copy first. Then verify the EA Account, service status, and connection, using App Recovery only for app-side symptoms. For Mass Effect Legendary Edition, treat saves as local unless exact platform guidance says otherwise; for Dragon Age: Inquisition, keep Dragon Age Keep separate from campaign saves. If no local copy remains and the app does not retrieve it, contact EA Help without assuming recovery is guaranteed.
