How to Fix Controller Input, Audio, and Save-State Problems in Delta on iPhone

Most Delta problems on iPhone have a specific fix: connect the controller in iOS Bluetooth settings before opening Delta, then select and remap it under Player 1; check the iPhone’s Ring/Silent state and Delta’s audio options; and treat an in-game battery save as your primary backup because it is more reliable than a save state. Updates matter too: Delta’s release notes document fixes for analog calibration, delayed input, remapped buttons, preview audio in silent mode, SNES crackling, incompatible-state warnings, and save-state crashes.

The recovery path depends on the symptom. A controller that appears connected may still need a system-specific mapping. Silent preview audio does not necessarily mean gameplay audio is broken. A missing save state may be hidden by a sync conflict, an incompatible-state warning, or a crashing context-menu preview. Work through the matching section below rather than deleting data or repeatedly overwriting a state.

Why is my controller not working in Delta on iPhone?

Delta cannot use a controller that is only paired; iOS must show it as connected first. Once the connection is active, choose the controller for Player 1 in Delta and assign controls for the console system you are playing.

1. Connect the controller in iOS before opening Delta

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth on the iPhone.
  2. Put the controller in pairing mode if it is not listed.
  3. Tap its name and wait for the status to change to Connected. “Paired” or a remembered device entry is not enough.
  4. Leave Bluetooth settings, then reopen Delta. If Delta was already open while the controller was disconnected, force-closing and relaunching the app gives it a clean device scan.

Delta’s controller guide states: “You must first connect your controller or keyboard in your device’s Bluetooth settings for it to appear in Delta.” The same connection requirement applies when using a keyboard.

2. Select it under Player 1

  1. Open Delta’s Settings.
  2. Choose Player 1 in the Controllers section.
  3. Select the connected controller from the device list.
  4. Open Customize Controls.
  5. Choose the affected console system and assign each button to the physical control you want to use.

Mappings are system-specific. A controller can work in one system and appear wrong in another when that system’s layout has not been configured or was changed accidentally.

3. Restore the mapping when buttons are shifted

If A/B, face buttons, triggers, or menu controls perform the wrong action, open the system’s mapping in Customize Controls and redo the assignments. A remap is more likely than a dead controller when the game responds but the wrong function is triggered.

Update Delta before spending time on unusual workarounds. Its release notes record fixes for remapped menu buttons, delayed inputs, and analog sticks being interpreted as discrete inputs. Those bugs can look like a hardware failure even when the controller is connected correctly.

4. Check analog calibration and intermittent movement

Analog movement that jumps, drifts between directions, or works only intermittently can be a calibration or input-interpretation problem. Reopen the affected system’s mapping, restore the intended analog assignments, and test again after updating Delta. If a stick is being treated as a series of digital directions, the game may receive repeated taps instead of smooth movement; Delta has shipped a fix for that class of behavior.

5. Test a controller family supported by Delta

Delta’s controller documentation names the following families. Actual support also depends on the iOS version installed on the iPhone, so a model listed here still needs to be compatible with your current iOS release.

Controller family Models named in Delta’s guide
Xbox Xbox Wireless Controller (Bluetooth Model 1708); Xbox Elite Series 2; Xbox Adaptive Controller; Xbox Series controllers
PlayStation DualShock 4; DualSense
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller; Switch Joy-Cons

If a supported family still fails, remove the controller from Settings > Bluetooth, pair it again, and repeat the Player 1 selection. This separates a stale iOS connection from a Delta mapping problem without deleting games or save data.

How do I tell whether the controller problem is Bluetooth, mapping, or a Delta bug?

Use the symptom rather than repeatedly changing every setting. A controller absent from Delta points to the iOS connection; a controller that appears but sends wrong commands points to mapping; delayed, discrete, or oddly calibrated input points to a software issue that may be fixed in a newer Delta build.

What you observe Most useful check Next action
Controller does not appear in Delta iOS Bluetooth status Connect it in Settings > Bluetooth, then relaunch Delta
Controller appears, but buttons are wrong Player 1 and system mapping Open Customize Controls and remap that console system
Analog stick acts like separate taps Analog assignment and Delta build Redo the mapping and update Delta
Inputs arrive late Delta release history Install the newest available Delta build and retest
Menu button performs a game action System-specific menu mapping Restore the menu assignment in Customize Controls
Only one iOS-supported controller fails Device compatibility Re-pair it or test another supported family

Why is Delta audio not playing on my iPhone?

Start with the iPhone’s Ring/Silent state and Delta’s audio behavior settings. Delta has a “Respect Silent Mode” behavior, and its release notes include a fix for game-preview audio when silent mode is involved, so preview sound and gameplay sound should be tested separately.

1. Check Ring/Silent and Delta’s audio behavior

  1. Turn off the iPhone’s Silent mode temporarily, or change Delta’s audio behavior so it is allowed to play while the phone is silent.
  2. Launch the game itself and listen during gameplay.
  3. Open a game preview separately if that is where sound is missing.

If gameplay audio works while a preview is silent, the emulator is not necessarily muted. Preview audio and in-game audio can follow different paths, and Delta has specifically addressed preview behavior in silent mode in its release history.

2. Check whether another app is taking the audio session

When music, a podcast, or another app is already playing, review Delta’s audio option for mixing with or pausing other audio, if that option is present in your installed build. The App Store version history documents audio-behavior changes across releases, so the exact label can vary between builds.

3. Fix SNES crackling by updating Delta

For crackling that occurs specifically with SNES games, update Delta before changing game files or iPhone settings. Delta’s release notes list a dedicated SNES audio-crackling fix. If the problem remains after updating, compare the same game with other audio apps stopped and with Silent mode changed; those checks distinguish the known emulator issue from an audio-session conflict.

4. Separate preview audio from gameplay audio

Use this short test:

  1. With Silent mode off, open the game preview and note whether sound plays.
  2. Start the game and test a title screen or known sound effect.
  3. Re-enable Silent mode and repeat both checks.

A failure limited to previews identifies the preview path. A failure limited to SNES titles identifies the documented SNES issue more strongly than a general iPhone speaker problem.

What is the difference between a Delta save state and an in-game save?

A save state is a snapshot created by Delta’s pause menu; an in-game save is written by the game itself, usually through its save or memory-battery system. Delta explicitly recommends in-game saves because they are more reliable than save states, so use the game’s own save system for your primary progress and save states for convenient checkpoints.

Storage path How you create or manage it Reliability or recovery role
In-game save Use the game’s own save command, such as its menu or save point Delta says this is more reliable than a save state
Manual save state Pause the game and choose Save State Fast checkpoint; can be renamed, deleted, locked, or unlocked
Auto-save state Created periodically by Delta Additional checkpoint when a manual state is unavailable
Locked save state Long-press a state and choose the lock option Cannot be overwritten accidentally
Delta Sync copy Enable and monitor Delta Sync in Settings Synchronizes games and save data between devices

Creating and loading a manual state

  1. While the game is running, open Delta’s pause menu.
  2. Choose Save State to create a checkpoint.
  3. To return to it, open the pause menu again and choose Load State.
  4. Long-press the state in the list to rename it, delete it, or lock or unlock it.

Lock a milestone state before experimenting with another branch. A locked state cannot be overwritten, which protects it from an accidental save at the same slot.

How do I recover a Delta save state after an update?

Do not keep overwriting the affected slot. First create a normal in-game save if the game still opens, then update to the newest Delta build and check synchronization before attempting destructive cleanup.

1. Preserve whatever still opens

  1. Start the game without loading the questionable state if possible.
  2. Use the game’s own save command and confirm that the save completed.
  3. Create a separate manual state rather than replacing the old one.

This gives you a recovery path even if the older snapshot later proves incompatible.

2. Install the newest Delta build

Delta’s release notes list fixes for incorrect incompatible-state displays and rare save-state crashes. An “incompatible” label after an update can therefore be a software-version problem rather than proof that the underlying game progress is gone. Update Delta, reopen the title, and check the state again before deleting anything.

3. Check Delta Sync status

  1. Open Delta’s Settings.
  2. Review the Delta Sync status and any pending changes.
  3. Allow synchronization to finish before switching devices or repeatedly launching the game.

Delta Sync is designed to synchronize games and save data between devices. Delta’s release history also records fixes for missing-file errors, conflicts, and outdated queued changes. A state missing on one device may therefore require the sync queue to resolve rather than a new local save.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Disable Context Menu Previews if opening a state crashes

If Delta crashes when you long-press a game or save state, open Settings and turn off Context Menu Previews. Delta’s settings guide recommends this toggle to keep the context menu usable. Once the menu opens normally, you can inspect, rename, lock, or remove the affected state.

5. Use the in-game save as the final fallback

If a state remains incompatible or crashes after updating and synchronization has settled, load the newest state that still works and use the game’s own save system immediately. Because in-game saves are the more reliable path, they should carry progress through future Delta updates rather than relying on a single emulator snapshot.

Can Delta Sync restore a missing save state?

It can restore synchronized game and save data when the relevant copy has reached the service, but it is not a guarantee that every unsynchronized local state can be recovered. Review Sync in Settings, look for conflicts or queued changes, and let the process complete before making more edits.

When two devices have diverged, avoid launching both repeatedly and creating new saves at the same time. Establish which device has the newest confirmed in-game save, then allow Delta Sync to process that data. The release notes’ fixes for conflicts and outdated queued changes explain why an update and a settled sync queue are important before judging a file as lost.

What should I do when Delta crashes while I inspect a game or save state?

Turn off Context Menu Previews in Delta’s Settings. This setting is specifically documented as the workaround when long-pressing a game or save state causes a crash, and it leaves the context menu available for managing the item.

  1. Open Settings in Delta.
  2. Find Context Menu Previews.
  3. Disable the option.
  4. Return to the game or save-state list and long-press again.

Do not delete the game or its states merely because the preview crashes. The preview is an interface feature; disabling it lets you reach the underlying rename, lock, load, and delete actions.

How can I prevent controller, audio, and save problems from returning?

A short routine reduces the chance that a temporary connection or fragile snapshot becomes a permanent problem.

  • Connect first: Before launching Delta, confirm the controller says Connected in iOS Bluetooth settings.
  • Map per system: After changing controllers, verify Player 1 and the affected console’s Customize Controls screen.
  • Update deliberately: Read Delta’s release notes when an input, audio, or save symptom appears; several of these exact failures have received fixes.
  • Save in the game: Use the game’s own save feature at normal milestones, then add a manual state for convenience.
  • Protect milestones: Long-press important states and lock them so later checkpoints cannot overwrite them.
  • Use Sync as another copy: Keep Delta Sync status under review when moving between devices, and wait for queued changes to finish.
  • Keep previews optional: If context-menu previews crash, disable them rather than removing your games or states.
  • Test audio in context: Check both preview and gameplay audio, with Silent mode changed, before concluding that all Delta audio is broken.

Which fix should I try first?

Match the failure to the shortest safe path:

  1. No controller in Delta: Connect it in Settings > Bluetooth, relaunch Delta, then select it under Player 1.
  2. Wrong or delayed controller input: Remap the affected system and update Delta for calibration, delayed-input, and menu-button fixes.
  3. No sound: Check Silent mode, Delta’s audio behavior, and whether the problem affects previews, gameplay, or both.
  4. SNES crackling: Update Delta for the documented SNES audio fix, then retest with other audio apps stopped.
  5. Missing or incompatible state: Make an in-game save, update Delta, review Delta Sync, and disable Context Menu Previews if inspection crashes.

This order protects data while testing the least destructive explanation first: connection, mapping, audio session, software update, then synchronization or recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a keyboard with Delta on iPhone?

Yes. Delta’s controller guidance includes keyboards, but the keyboard must first be connected in iOS Bluetooth settings so it appears inside Delta. After that, select it under Player 1 and configure the relevant system’s controls.

Will changing iPhone Silent mode erase my Delta settings or saves?

No. Silent mode changes audio behavior only. It does not remove controller mappings, games, or save data; use it as a diagnostic switch when sound is missing.

Should I delete an old state marked incompatible?

No, not immediately. Preserve progress with an in-game save, update Delta, and check Sync first because release notes document fixes for incorrect incompatible-state displays.

Why do I hear game audio but not the cover or game preview?

Delta treats preview and gameplay audio as separate paths. Test both with Silent mode changed; a preview-only failure points to preview behavior rather than the game’s emulation audio.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can locking a save state repair a corrupted state?

No. Locking prevents accidental overwrites but does not repair data. Use it to protect a state that still loads, while relying on an in-game save for dependable recovery.
