A silent Flexus CORE 300 is usually recoverable without a reset. Work from the signal path outward: clear mute and volume, select the source that matches the cable, correct the TV’s HDMI audio settings, test the cable and TV independently, update firmware, then repair wireless pairing. If the bar plays but the rear channels do not, the Flexus Surr speakers need power and a working USB-transmitter pairing. A system with both a subwoofer and surrounds has an additional limitation: only one transmitter can remain plugged into the bar.

The sequence below separates a TV/eARC problem from a bar configuration problem and avoids deleting settings before you know what failed.

What should I check first when the CORE 300 is completely silent?

Start with the controls and the display before changing cables or resetting anything. These checks take seconds and eliminate the most common causes.

  1. Wake the bar and raise its volume. Use the remote or the buttons on the soundbar. Cancel mute and make sure the volume is not at minimum. The front display identifies mute or minimum volume as “MUTE” and shows the active source.
  2. Confirm that the bar is on the source you actually connected. A TV connected through HDMI ARC/eARC uses the TV source. A TV connected by optical uses DIGITAL. Selecting the other input produces silence even when the TV is sending audio correctly.
  3. Temporarily disconnect unrelated source devices. Leave only the TV path under test. This prevents another HDMI device from taking control or sending a different signal while you diagnose the connection.
  4. Check that the TV is sending audio to the bar, not its own speakers. The exact menu names vary by manufacturer, but look for Sound Output, Audio Output, or Speaker selection and choose HDMI or Receiver.

If these checks restore sound, no wireless reset is needed. If the display shows the right source and the bar responds to volume commands but remains silent, continue with the TV output settings.

How do I match the CORE 300 source to the physical TV connection?

The CORE 300 has two relevant TV inputs. Use the source label that corresponds to the cable; changing the TV connection without changing the bar source can look like a dead system.

TV connection CORE 300 source What to verify
HDMI ARC or eARC TV The cable is in the TV’s ARC/eARC HDMI socket and the television is configured to output audio over HDMI.
Optical digital cable DIGITAL The optical plugs are fully seated and the television’s digital audio output is enabled.

For a clean test, change one variable at a time. For example, leave the HDMI cable connected, select TV on the bar, and test a built-in TV app. If you switch to optical, select DIGITAL immediately afterward; the bar will not automatically treat the optical signal as the TV source.

Which TV HDMI settings fix a silent ARC or eARC connection?

On the television, select HDMI as the sound output, enable eARC when the set supports it, and send an unaltered digital stream. Klipsch’s documented HDMI checks use the following settings.

  • Sound Output: HDMI, Receiver, or a similarly named external-audio option instead of TV Speakers.
  • HDMI e-ARC Mode: Auto or On on an eARC-capable television.
  • Digital Output Format: Pass-Through. Some televisions call the same type of output Bitstream.
  • Dolby Atmos: Enabled when the television exposes a separate Atmos control.
  • CEC or device-control options: Leave the TV’s normal HDMI device-control feature enabled if the set requires it for ARC/eARC handshaking.

After changing the settings, power the TV and soundbar off, disconnect power briefly, then turn the TV on before the bar. Test a built-in TV app or broadcast source rather than an external player so the result reflects the TV-to-bar path.

How can I tell whether the HDMI cable or TV is the problem?

Use a known-good connection to isolate the fault instead of repeatedly changing several settings at once.

  1. Inspect the cable and sockets. Re-seat both ends and confirm that the TV end is in the ARC/eARC-labelled HDMI port, not an ordinary HDMI input. Use the cable supplied with the CORE 300 when available; Klipsch specifies an HDMI 2.0a-or-higher requirement for this connection.
  2. Substitute a certified HDMI 2.0a-or-newer cable if the supplied lead is missing, visibly damaged, or suspect. A cable that works for video at another port is not proof that it is correctly connected to the ARC/eARC socket.
  3. Test another known-good source. A separate player connected to the bar can show whether the bar’s amplifier and selected input are functioning. Disconnect it again when you return to the TV test.
  4. Try optical as an isolation test. Connect the television’s optical output, select DIGITAL on the bar, and play the same program. If optical works while ARC/eARC remains silent, the evidence points to the TV’s HDMI, CEC, eARC negotiation, or related settings rather than a failed bar amplifier. This is a diagnostic inference from comparing two independent signal paths.

Do not leave both paths connected while deciding which one works; the television may continue selecting the wrong output or source.

How do I update CORE 300 firmware?

Firmware updates are delivered through Klipsch Connect Plus. Install the update only after the bar has a stable network connection and while it remains powered.

  1. Connect the CORE 300 to Wi-Fi and confirm that the network has internet access.
  2. Open Klipsch Connect Plus on your mobile device and select the soundbar.
  3. Follow the setup prompts. The app offers a firmware update when one is available.
  4. Keep the bar powered and connected to the television while the update runs. The app reports the update status; do not unplug the bar during installation.

Once the app reports completion, retest the TV source before changing wireless pairings. Updating firmware addresses software and compatibility issues, but it does not correct a muted bar, a wrong source, or a cable in the wrong HDMI socket.

How do I reconnect Flexus Surr speakers when the bar works but the rears are silent?

Missing rear audio is normally a power, transmitter, or pairing issue rather than a TV-volume issue. Both speakers must be compatible Flexus Surr units, powered on, and associated with the USB transmitter connected to the CORE 300.

  1. Turn on both Flexus Surr speakers and verify that the transmitter is inserted into the soundbar.
  2. At the bottom of the first surround speaker, press and hold its pair button for 3–5 seconds until the status LED pulses.
  3. Repeat the same 3–5-second hold on the second surround speaker. Both speakers should now be waiting to pair.
  4. Press and hold the pair button on the USB transmitter for 3–5 seconds.
  5. Wait for the speaker status LEDs to become solid. A solid light indicates a successful link.

Play content known to contain rear-channel information after pairing. A stereo program may not produce obvious activity from the surrounds, so test a multichannel film, game, or other source before concluding that the link failed.

Why did surround audio disappear after I added a subwoofer?

The CORE 300 accepts only one USB transmitter. When a Flexus subwoofer and Flexus Surr speakers are installed together, one peripheral’s transmitter stays in the bar and the other peripheral must be manually paired to that same transmitter. Plugging both transmitters into the system is not a supported arrangement.

Keep the transmitter that is already in the bar

Leave the existing dongle connected, power the second peripheral, and use the second peripheral’s pair control to associate it with the transmitter in the bar. This avoids changing the connection that already works.

Move to the other transmitter only deliberately

If you decide to use the subwoofer’s transmitter instead, remove the original dongle, insert the chosen transmitter, and pair every required peripheral to it. A peripheral that was paired to the removed transmitter will not follow automatically.

If only the subwoofer or only the rear speakers work after an installation change, check this one-transmitter arrangement before clearing all pairings.

How do I clear an unstable wireless link and pair again?

Intermittent or one-sided wireless audio can come from radio interference or stale pairing data. First improve the physical environment, then clear the stored peripheral links.

  • Move the soundbar, transmitter, subwoofer, and surrounds away from routers, wireless access points, cordless devices, and other strong wireless sources.
  • Where practical, use a different electrical outlet for a peripheral that is close to a noisy power strip or crowded equipment cluster.
  • Leave the chosen USB transmitter attached to the bar.
  1. Press and hold the soundbar’s pair button for 10–15 seconds.
  2. Watch the front display for “Peripherals Cleared.” That message confirms that the stored wireless peripheral associations were removed.
  3. Repeat the surround-speaker pairing sequence, the subwoofer sequence, or both, depending on the hardware in your system.

Clearing peripherals does not replace the TV source or HDMI checks. If the bar is silent on every input, return to the signal-path steps before treating a wireless link as the cause.

How do I pair a Flexus 300 subwoofer by itself?

For a subwoofer-only repair, pair the subwoofer to the transmitter already connected to the bar.

  1. Power on the soundbar and the Flexus 300 subwoofer.
  2. Press and hold the subwoofer’s pair button for 3–5 seconds, until its status LED pulses.
  3. Press and hold the pair button on the bar’s USB transmitter for 3 seconds.
  4. Wait for the subwoofer status light to become solid, which indicates a completed pairing.

If surrounds are also installed, perform this procedure with the single transmitter that the bar is using. Do not add a second dongle to accommodate the subwoofer.

What should I do about Dirac calibration after changing speakers?

Dirac filters are tied to the exact peripheral set present when calibration was performed. They are not generic presets that automatically adapt to any replacement or rearrangement.

  • If a calibrated surround or subwoofer is merely disconnected or unpowered, reconnect and power that same unit before judging the calibration.
  • If you replaced a peripheral, changed which units are paired, or added hardware, either restore the original calibrated set or run a new Dirac calibration for the current system.
  • Do not use a missing rear channel as evidence that Dirac itself is defective until the wireless link and speaker power have been restored.

Recalibration belongs after successful pairing. Running it while a speaker is absent can map filters to an incomplete system and leave you troubleshooting two problems at once.

Should I factory-reset the CORE 300?

Use a factory reset only after checking mute and volume, source selection, TV output settings, cable operation, firmware, and peripheral pairing. A reset returns the soundbar to its defaults and means you must perform setup again.

Klipsch maintains a dedicated CORE 300 factory-reset support article. Follow that model-specific procedure exactly; do not substitute button combinations published for the CORE 100 or CORE 200. The reset sequence can change with firmware or model, so it should be taken from the current CORE 300 instructions rather than inferred.

What is the practical difference between HDMI eARC and optical for troubleshooting?

Both connections can provide a useful test, but they behave differently. HDMI eARC is the preferred path when the television supports it and is configured correctly; optical is a separate route that helps determine whether the HDMI handshake is the source of silence.

Factor HDMI ARC/eARC Optical
CORE 300 input label TV DIGITAL
TV output setting HDMI or Receiver; eARC Auto/On when available Optical/digital output enabled
Control behavior Uses the TV’s HDMI device-control and ARC/eARC negotiation Does not use the HDMI ARC/eARC handshake
Best diagnostic use Normal TV connection when the TV and cable are configured correctly Isolation test when ARC/eARC is silent

Keep the comparison focused on the symptom. If optical produces sound and HDMI does not, concentrate on the TV’s HDMI port, eARC mode, digital-output selection, CEC behavior, and cable before investigating the bar’s internal audio hardware.

Which symptom points to which repair?

  • No display response, muted indicator, or volume at minimum: wake the bar, cancel mute, and raise volume.
  • The display shows the wrong input: select TV for HDMI ARC/eARC or DIGITAL for optical.
  • The bar responds but TV audio is absent over HDMI: correct Sound Output, eARC mode, Pass-Through/Bitstream, Atmos, cable, and power-cycle order.
  • Optical works while HDMI does not: investigate the television’s ARC/eARC path rather than assuming the bar’s amplifiers failed.
  • Bar audio works but both rears are silent: verify speaker power, transmitter insertion, and the 3–5-second pairing sequence.
  • Only one peripheral works after adding another: check that both are paired to the one transmitter allowed by the bar.
  • Wireless audio drops in and out: reduce nearby radio interference, clear peripherals for 10–15 seconds, and pair again.
  • Sound changed after replacing or moving hardware: restore the calibrated peripheral set or run Dirac again.

What should I avoid while troubleshooting?

  • Do not reset before testing the simple source and TV settings; a reset removes configuration without proving what failed.
  • Do not infer CORE 300 reset instructions from another Flexus model.
  • Do not pair a subwoofer and surrounds through two transmitters; the bar supports one connected USB transmitter.
  • Do not run Dirac calibration with a missing, unpowered, or temporarily unpaired peripheral if you intend to keep using that hardware.
  • Do not judge surround pairing with a strictly stereo test source; use content that actually contains rear-channel information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave the optical cable connected while I repair HDMI ARC?

You can, but select only one path while testing. For an optical test choose DIGITAL; for ARC/eARC choose TV, and disconnecting the unused lead temporarily prevents an automatic source change from confusing the result.

What does a pulsing surround-speaker light mean?

A pulsing status light means the speaker is in pairing mode and waiting for the transmitter. The light should become solid after the transmitter pairing completes; if it never does, repeat the sequence with the speaker powered and close enough to the bar for setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will changing the USB transmitter affect my existing Dirac sound?

It can, because Dirac filters are associated with the specific peripheral set used during calibration. After changing the transmitter or peripheral assignment, restore the original set or perform a fresh calibration for the arrangement you will keep.

Is a CORE 300 reset procedure interchangeable with other Flexus bars?

No. Use the current CORE 300-specific Klipsch support instructions. Button combinations for CORE 100 or CORE 200 models should not be treated as valid for the CORE 300.

What should I test after a firmware update?

First retest the same TV source that was silent, then check the rear speakers and subwoofer if they are installed. Keeping the test order consistent makes it clear whether the update changed the HDMI path, the wireless links, or neither.
