A past delisting notice is not proof that a game is still unavailable. As of October 30, 2026, Alice: Madness Returns has a purchase option on the US Steam page and a Windows purchase route through EA, despite a report that it was removed from Steam in June 2022. The Path, a short horror game inspired by older versions of Little Red Riding Hood, is sold directly by its developer with immediate downloads.
To buy a dark-fairytale game safely, identify the exact title, edition, platform and region; check the publisher or developer; confirm a live storefront listing; then consider a used disc only after checking hardware compatibility and the condition of the actual item.

Prices and inventory change quickly, so the table records what the cited pages establish rather than promising a particular price or stock level.
What does “delisted” mean for a game you want to buy?
“Delisted” can describe a historical removal, a regional restriction, a missing edition or a storefront that has since restored sales. Those are different situations. A June 2022 industry report said Alice: Madness Returns and other Spicy Horse titles had been pulled from Steam, but the current US listing now displays an Add to Cart option. It is therefore inaccurate to present the game as currently delisted everywhere.

Availability can also differ by country, platform and edition. A Windows license does not automatically provide an Xbox copy, and a sequel listing does not prove that the original game is included. Treat every “unavailable” claim as a prompt to check the exact storefront and region on the day you intend to buy.
The wider preservation problem is substantial. The Video Game History Foundation and Software Preservation Network reported in 2023 that 87% of 1,500 classic US games in their study were not in release, with a 95% confidence interval of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points. That statistic describes historical games generally, not dark-fairytale titles specifically and not the status of any game in 2026.

Where should I look first?
Use this order so that an old delisting article does not send you straight to an expensive or incompatible resale copy.
- Identify the exact product. Write down the title, whether it is the original or sequel, the edition, platform and your country. “Alice” can mean the original American McGee’s Alice or Alice: Madness Returns.
- Check the publisher or developer. EA lists Alice: Madness Returns for Windows through the EA app and points readers toward Xbox. Tale of Tales’ purchase page offers The Path directly and provides an immediate download.
- Check a current platform storefront. Search the exact title and edition rather than relying on a dated news story. The US Steam listing for Alice: Madness Returns is a live example.
- Only then search physical resale. Used listings can supply an original disc, but they may lack a case, contain a redeemed code or require hardware that you no longer own.
- Verify compatibility before payment. Console backward compatibility is title-specific. A general compatibility policy is not certification that a particular disc works on a newer machine.

EA’s official game page offers a Windows purchase through the EA app. The page describes the purchase as a digital license and states that a single-use serial code cannot be transferred once it has been used. Steam
The US Steam page currently shows an Add to Cart option. The presence of that control answers the immediate availability question for that storefront and region, but it does not establish the same status in every country or for every platform. Confirm the title art, edition and publisher information before completing checkout: the Steam listing.
What the 2022 removal report does—and does not—tell you
The contemporaneous report of a June 2022 Steam removal is useful historical context, not a live inventory check. Storefront rights can change, and a restored listing can coexist with old articles that still describe the game as delisted. Always give the current storefront page priority for present-tense availability: the 2022 removal report.
Where can I find a physical copy of Alice: Madness Returns?
Used Xbox 360 and PS3 discs are the clearest physical routes supported by the available retail evidence. A GameStop product page presents Xbox 360 and PS3 platform choices and a pre-owned condition. That page demonstrates the type of listing to search; it does not guarantee that a complete copy is in stock when you visit it: the retailer’s listing.

Use precise searches such as “Alice Madness Returns Xbox 360 physical disc” or “Alice Madness Returns PS3 physical disc.” Before buying, ask the seller to confirm:
- Photographs of the actual disc, case and any included inserts, rather than a stock image.
- The platform, edition and region printed on the disc or case.
- Whether the disc has scratches and whether the seller accepts returns.
- Whether any advertised serial or bonus code has already been redeemed.
- Exactly what is included; a used disc is not the same thing as a transferable digital entitlement.
Do not assume that a physical listing includes the original American McGee’s Alice. The sequel and original are separate releases, and the evidence here does not establish that a sequel purchase bundles the earlier game.

Xbox 360 disc on Xbox One or Xbox Series
Xbox explains that, for a supported backward-compatible title, inserting an older disc can trigger a download and the disc must remain in the drive to launch the game. Xbox Series S has no disc drive, so it cannot accept an Xbox 360 disc. Check the specific game in Xbox’s backward-compatibility catalog before buying; the general policy alone does not certify Alice: Madness Returns: Xbox backward compatibility guidance.
PS3 disc on PS5
A PS3 physical edition is not a PS5 purchase. PlayStation’s official support page states, “PS5 consoles do not support PlayStation®3 discs.” Choose a PS3-capable console for that disc, or use an authorized digital option on a platform that supports it: PlayStation’s PS5 compatibility guidance.

How do I buy and run The Path?
The Path is sold by Tale of Tales rather than being an example of a game proven to remain delisted. The developer describes it as a short horror game inspired by older versions of Little Red Riding Hood and offers a direct purchase with immediate download.
The developer-run itch.io page identifies Windows downloads, a Mac file, a soundtrack and a Steam key. It also warns that the game does not work with the latest macOS versions. Check the operating system you intend to use before checkout, and treat the Mac warning as a compatibility limitation rather than something a newer computer will automatically solve: Tale of Tales on itch.io.

Recheck the live publisher and platform pages whenever you are ready to buy, especially after a rights, platform or regional change. A dated removal article can remain online long after a listing returns.
What if a used listing advertises a digital code with the disc?
Treat the code as potentially consumed and value the purchase as a physical disc unless the seller can establish that it is unused. EA’s terms specifically say a single-use serial cannot be transferred after redemption.
How can I tell whether a listing is the original Alice game?
Look for the complete title and edition in the product description, not just artwork or the word “Alice.” The original American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns are separate releases with different platform histories.
