How to Filter Your Steam Library for Games That Use Generative AI

Steam does not provide a dependable built-in library filter for generative-AI use. The practical method is to use SteamDB’s AI Content Disclosed tag to include or exclude disclosed games, then open each game’s Steam store page and read its AI Generated Content Disclosure section. That second check matters because the tag can cover anything from shipped assets to store-page marketing, while a missing tag does not prove a game is AI-free.

This workflow lets you separate games with disclosed AI use, determine whether the use affects what you play, and avoid treating a third-party index as conclusive evidence.

Is there a Steam filter for games that use generative AI?

As of a February 2025 report, Steam did not offer a native browse filter dedicated to generative-AI use. SteamDB supplied the practical include/exclude layer by indexing the disclosure text that appears on Steam store pages.

SteamDB is useful for discovery, not as the final authority. Its tag identifies store pages containing a specific disclosure, while the store page itself explains what the developer says AI does in the product or its marketing.

What you can and cannot learn from a filter

  • You can find disclosed games. Searching for AI Content Disclosed identifies products whose Steam pages contain the relevant disclosure text.
  • You can hide disclosed games. SteamDB supports an exclusion option, which is useful when browsing lists, events or demos.
  • You cannot prove that every untagged game is AI-free. A developer may not have disclosed use, SteamDB may not have indexed a recently changed page, or the use may fall outside the wording Steam displays.
  • You cannot infer the scope of use from the tag alone. The tag may cover game assets, live content, community assets, store material or marketing.

How do I find games with disclosed generative-AI use?

Use SteamDB’s Instant Search or a SteamDB event/list page, then add the disclosure tag. The following procedure works whether you are investigating your library, a sale list, a festival lineup or a demo collection.

  1. Open SteamDB Instant Search or a SteamDB list. Start from the list whose products you want to inspect rather than searching the entire catalog if you are checking a particular event or collection.
  2. Open “Filter by user tags.” Use the tag search field; do not rely on a general keyword search for “AI,” because that can return unrelated tags, descriptions or genres.
  3. Search for “AI Content Disclosed.” Select the tag with the exact wording. SteamDB describes it as covering products where the developer disclosed generative-AI use anywhere in the product or marketing.
  4. Choose inclusion. The inclusion setting leaves products carrying that tag in the results. You can combine it with library state, product type, operating system, features and other available filters.
  5. Open a result’s Steam store page. Treat the result as a lead. Read the complete AI Generated Content Disclosure section before deciding what the game contains.
  6. Record the scope of the statement. Note whether the wording concerns pre-generated assets, live-generated content, store-page material, community content or marketing, and whether it describes anything visible or interactive during play.

Why the exact tag matters

SteamDB applies the tag when the specific Steam disclosure text is present on a store page. A broad search for “AI” can miss the relevant product or produce false positives; the exact tag is the index’s intended classification.

How do I hide AI-disclosed games from SteamDB lists?

Choose the exclusion form of AI Content Disclosed in the same tag filter. Exclusion removes products whose store pages match the disclosure text, allowing you to browse the remaining items without manually opening every result first.

Excluding games in the interface

  1. Open a SteamDB Instant Search, event page or list page.
  2. Expand Filter by user tags.
  3. Find AI Content Disclosed.
  4. Switch the tag from inclusion to exclusion, using the control SteamDB provides beside the tag.
  5. Apply any additional filters, such as demos, operating system or games already in your library.
  6. Open individual store pages for borderline cases, because exclusion only removes products that have a matching indexed disclosure.

Using the documented URL parameter

A February 2025 method documented for SteamDB lists is to append &tagid=-1368160 to the list URL. The negative tag ID represents exclusion. This is convenient for a saved list or a shared query, but it remains dependent on SteamDB’s indexing and the list’s existing URL parameters.

If the resulting page does not change, check that the parameter was added after the existing query string with an ampersand, that the list is a SteamDB page rather than a Steam store URL, and that the browser loaded the updated address rather than a cached tab.

What does “AI Content Disclosed” actually mean?

The tag means that a Steam store page contains the relevant disclosure; it does not mean that generative AI runs the game’s core systems or that every visible asset was generated by a model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

SteamDB’s classification can include several materially different cases:

Disclosure location or use What it may mean for a player What to verify on the store page
Pre-generated game assets AI-assisted or AI-generated images, models, audio, text or other files may ship with the game. Which asset types are identified, and whether they appear in normal gameplay.
Live-generated content The game may create text, images, dialogue or other material while it runs. Whether generation is optional, online-dependent, player-facing or part of the main loop.
Store-page or marketing material The disclosure may concern screenshots, capsule art, trailers, descriptions or promotional material rather than game content. Whether the statement explicitly limits AI use to marketing or store assets.
Community or user-facing assets AI may be used in content associated with community features or submissions. Whether the developer distinguishes official shipped content from user-created material.

Valve’s developer disclosure process separates pre-generated and live-generated AI content and asks developers to explain the use. That distinction is why the store-page wording is more informative than the presence of a tag by itself.

How do I verify a game’s disclosure on its Steam store page?

Open the game’s store page and read the complete AI Generated Content Disclosure section, including any explanation beneath the heading. Copy the wording into your notes if you need an auditable record, because disclosures and product pages can change after updates.

Read for these four details

  • What was generated: Look for references to art, models, voices, music, writing, code, dialogue or other assets.
  • When generation occurs: Distinguish files created before release from material generated during play.
  • Where it appears: Determine whether it is in the shipped game, optional tools, community features, screenshots, trailers or other marketing.
  • How prominent it is: A disclosure about a promotional image has a different player impact from one describing an always-on dialogue system.

Classify the player impact

For a personal “avoid” list, mark a game as high impact when generated material is visible or interactive during ordinary play. Mark marketing-only disclosures separately; they may matter to your purchasing policy without changing the in-game experience. If the text is ambiguous, preserve the exact wording and classify it as “scope unclear” rather than assuming the broadest interpretation.

Can I use this method to filter my own Steam library?

Yes, but SteamDB is an external discovery layer rather than a setting inside the Steam client. Build a candidate list from SteamDB, then compare it with the games you own and verify each store page.

A practical library-audit workflow

  1. Start with your owned games. Use a SteamDB list or search view that can be restricted to your library state.
  2. Apply the AI Content Disclosed inclusion tag. This produces a review queue of owned products with an indexed disclosure.
  3. Open each Steam store page. Confirm that the disclosure still appears and read its scope.
  4. Assign a local label. Useful labels include “in-game generated,” “pre-generated assets,” “marketing only” and “unclear.”
  5. Decide your action. Depending on your preference, hide the game, avoid a specific mode, disable an optional feature or keep playing while noting the disclosure.
  6. Recheck later for important titles. A patch, new DLC or a revised store description can change what the page says.

Steam’s client library may not expose the same disclosure metadata as a sortable column. Keeping a small spreadsheet or note with the game name, store-page wording, date checked and your classification makes your decisions reproducible without pretending that the third-party tag is permanent.

How reliable is the SteamDB filter?

It is reliable for finding indexed disclosures, but not for proving the absence, extent or quality of generative-AI use. Think of it as a high-recall screening step followed by a primary-source check on Steam.

Reasons a game may be missing

  • No developer disclosure: The game may use generative AI without a matching statement, or the developer may have interpreted the disclosure requirement differently.
  • Indexing delay: SteamDB may not yet reflect a newly added or edited store-page section.
  • Changed wording: A developer can revise the page after a patch, re-release or policy update.
  • Different product records: A demo, soundtrack, playtest or full game can have separate store entries and disclosures.
  • Scope mismatch: The use may not fit the disclosure wording that SteamDB indexes, even if players encounter AI-related features elsewhere.

What a positive result does not establish

  • It does not establish that AI generated the game’s code or design.
  • It does not establish that all art, voices or text were generated by AI.
  • It does not establish that generation happens at runtime.
  • It does not establish that the developer used a particular model, training data source or workflow.

How many games and demos are covered?

Available figures show the scale of disclosed use, but they are snapshots rather than a permanent catalog total.

Figure Date or context How to interpret it
More than 4,900 games Reported in February 2025 as having an AI Generated Content Disclosure section A reported count of store pages with the section at that time, not a guarantee that all remain unchanged.
2,186 demos, with 92 removed A Steam Next Fest list reported in February 2025 using the exclusion filter An example of how exclusion changes a specific event list; it is not the number of AI games on Steam.
100 products displayed SteamDB’s current tag page display limit The page’s visible-result cap, not a reliable total count of matching products.

Because SteamDB limits the number of products displayed on its tag page, counting the visible rows will understate the catalog. Use the filter for navigation and the individual store page for verification, not for estimating how common AI use is across Steam.

How should I decide whether to avoid a game?

Base the decision on where the disclosed material appears and how it affects your own play, rather than on the tag alone.

Use a four-question decision test

  1. Is the disclosure about the game or only its promotion? Marketing-only use may satisfy a strict purchasing rule while having no effect in play.
  2. Is the content pre-generated or live-generated? Live generation can affect interaction, moderation, privacy and connectivity in ways a fixed asset does not.
  3. Is the content optional? A game may disclose AI for an optional tool, mode or community feature that you can avoid.
  4. Can the wording answer your concern? If it does not identify the asset or feature, treat the case as unresolved and seek a developer statement rather than guessing.

This approach also prevents the opposite error: assuming that a disclosure automatically means the entire game is AI-generated. The disclosure can be narrow, and its practical significance depends on the exact language.

What should I do when SteamDB and the store page disagree?

Give the current Steam store page priority, then treat the SteamDB result as stale or incomplete. Note the date and wording, and check again after SteamDB has had time to reindex the page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Common troubleshooting cases

  • SteamDB shows the tag, but no disclosure is visible: Reload the store page, check that you opened the correct product entry, and consider that the developer may have removed or revised the text.
  • The store page has a disclosure, but SteamDB does not show the tag: Use the store wording as the current evidence and allow for indexing delay.
  • The exclusion filter removes a title you believe is unrelated: Read the disclosure; the tag may have been triggered by marketing, community content or another limited use.
  • A demo is filtered differently from the full game: Check both product pages, because separate entries can carry different text.
  • A saved URL stops working: Recreate the filter in the interface, then save the newly generated URL. The parameter method depends on SteamDB’s current URL structure.

What are the limits of using an AI filter on Steam?

The method identifies disclosures, not hidden production practices. Valve’s disclosure text improves transparency, but it is still a developer-provided description and may not answer questions about model providers, training data, licensing, moderation or the proportion of content created with AI.

For a strict no-generative-AI policy, combine the SteamDB exclusion with manual checks of store pages, developer announcements and updates for games that matter to you. For a less strict policy, classify the disclosure by player impact so that a marketing-only image is not treated the same as live-generated dialogue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an untagged Steam game still use generative AI?

Yes. The absence of the SteamDB tag can reflect nondisclosure, an indexing delay or wording that does not match the indexed Steam section. Treat an untagged result as “not identified,” then inspect the store page or the developer’s current documentation for a decision-critical title.

Do Steam disclosures identify which AI model a game uses?

Usually, the disclosure is about the type and location of AI-generated content rather than a complete technical inventory. It may not name a model provider, training dataset, licensing arrangement or moderation system, so those questions require a separate statement from the developer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will a game’s AI disclosure change after I buy it?

It can change when a developer adds a feature, ships downloadable content or edits its store page. Keep the date and wording of your check if the distinction matters, and revisit the page after major updates.

Can I filter AI use directly inside the Steam client library?

The documented workflow uses SteamDB for the include/exclude filter and Steam for verification; it does not depend on a dedicated sortable AI column in the client. After checking, you can maintain your own labels or notes to make the result usable in your personal library.
