To enable LE Audio on Android, first confirm that both your exact phone model and your earbuds support it. Connect the earbuds, open their Bluetooth details, and look for an LE Audio control or status; if it is not there, check the manufacturer’s app or instructions. Some models activate LE Audio automatically, while others require a setting, a firmware update, or a model-specific pairing process. A generic “Connected” label does not prove which audio profile is in use.

What do you need before enabling LE Audio?

LE Audio works only when the phone and the exact earbud or headset model both support it. Android’s platform documentation says Android 13 (API level 33) includes built-in support for LE Audio, but that does not mean every Android 13 phone has the necessary hardware, implementation, or manufacturer support. Check the phone maker’s specifications for your model, not just its Android version.

Check the accessory maker’s documentation for the precise earbud model as well. A product family can include versions or regional variants with different features, and Bluetooth support in general does not establish that LE Audio is supported. Android’s overview describes platform support and LE Audio use cases, while each manufacturer’s product documentation supplies model-specific qualifications: Android Developers: Bluetooth Low Energy Audio.

  • Phone: Verify the exact model and software build support LE Audio.
  • Earbuds: Verify LE Audio support for the exact model and install any available firmware update.
  • Pairing: Have the earbuds connected before checking their Bluetooth details; some manufacturers require both earbuds to be paired or connected.
  • Instructions: Be ready to follow the maker’s app or pairing procedure if Android does not show a control.

Android 13 is a platform-level starting point, not a universal compatibility guarantee. The Android Developers overview specifically describes built-in LE Audio support in Android 13 (API level 33); manufacturer documentation can impose additional device requirements.

Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

How do you turn on LE Audio on Android?

Start with the paired earbuds’ Bluetooth details. If there is no LE Audio option there, check the accessory’s companion app and model instructions; the setting’s location and whether it is needed vary by product.

  1. Confirm compatibility. Look up LE Audio support for your exact phone and earbud models. Do not rely on Android version or Bluetooth version alone.
  2. Update both devices. Install any available phone software update and the earbuds’ current firmware. Follow any minimum-version guidance in the earbud maker’s instructions.
  3. Pair and connect the earbuds. On Android, open Bluetooth settings and connect the accessory. The general Android Help path is to find and set up nearby Bluetooth devices; the exact labels can differ by phone: Google Android Help: Find & set up Bluetooth devices near your Android device.
  4. Open the accessory details. In Bluetooth settings, select the connected earbuds or tap their settings/details control. Look for an LE Audio switch, status, or similarly named option, then follow any prompt shown on your phone.
  5. If Android has no control, check the maker’s app or manual. Some products put the switch in a companion app; others activate LE Audio automatically or use a separate pairing name.
  6. Re-pair only if the product instructions call for it. If required, remove or forget the old pairing, then follow the manufacturer’s pairing sequence and reconnect. Re-pairing is not a universal LE Audio requirement.
  7. Check the documented indicator. Use an explicit LE Audio setting, app status, or LE-specific pairing entry where the manufacturer identifies one. Do not treat a generic connection label as confirmation.

Android Help notes that accessory settings can vary across devices. Google’s Pixel Buds instructions expose LE Audio in the device settings and say it activates without a factory reset or re-pairing: Google Pixel Buds Help: Change your Google Pixel Buds settings. Bose puts the setting for QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) in its app, while Creative documents separate classic and LE Audio device names: Bose Support: Using LE Audio and Creative Support: Creative Zen Air Plus Bluetooth connection for Android devices.

Where is the LE Audio setting on different earbuds?

There is no single setup path across Android accessories. The examples below show why you should use the instructions for your specific model rather than assume a missing Android toggle means the earbuds cannot use LE Audio.

Documented example Where to look or what to do What can indicate LE Audio
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 Open the Pixel Buds device settings. Google says no factory reset or re-pairing is needed for LE Audio activation. The device settings expose LE Audio; follow the setting and status shown there. Google instructions.
Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) Check the Bose app for the LE Audio setting. Use the app’s model-specific control or status. Bose instructions.
Creative Zen Air Plus Choose the LE Audio pairing entry when following Creative’s Android connection instructions. Creative distinguishes “Zen Air Plus-LEA” from “Zen Air Plus”; the LEA entry is evidence of the LE Audio pairing route. Creative instructions.
Jabra Elite 10 Jabra’s instructions describe removing the current pairing, pairing again, and enabling LE Audio in the phone’s Bluetooth settings. Use Jabra’s specified pairing flow and verify the Android Bluetooth setting. Its manual gives model-specific OS guidance, not a universal Android minimum. Jabra Elite 10 User Manual.
Sony INZONE H9 II Follow Sony’s defined app and pairing flow; Sony instructions include checking Android and the Sound Connect app. Sony says LE Audio should be on in Android and displayed in the Sound Connect app. For instability, its guide includes switching back to Classic Audio. Sony INZONE H9 II Help Guide.
Redmi Buds 6 Pro Check Xiaomi’s compatibility and connection requirements for the phone and earbuds. Xiaomi says support is limited to certain phone models and the LE Audio option is not supported when only one earbud is connected. Xiaomi Global Support FAQ.

These are documented setup examples, not a guarantee that every phone supports the listed accessory or that a product is currently available in every market. For current compatibility, rely on the manufacturer’s page for the exact phone and accessory combination.

How can you tell whether your earbuds are using LE Audio?

Look for a model-specific LE Audio setting or status in Bluetooth details or the manufacturer’s app. In some cases, a distinct LE Audio pairing entry is the relevant evidence; a plain “Connected” label is not.

Android’s consumer Help describes the general Bluetooth connection state, while its BluetoothLeAudio API separately defines an LE Audio profile connection state and methods for connected devices. That API shows the platform tracks the profile programmatically; it does not mean every Android interface exposes that state to users. See the Android BluetoothLeAudio API reference and Android Help on Bluetooth connections.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
  • An explicit LE Audio status or switch in the accessory’s Android Bluetooth details.
  • An LE Audio status in the manufacturer’s companion app, if its instructions identify one.
  • An LE-specific pairing entry, such as Creative’s documented “Zen Air Plus-LEA” name.
  • The particular combination of Android and app indicators specified by the manufacturer, as in Sony’s instructions.

Do not infer active LE Audio from the Bluetooth icon, a generic “Connected” label, or a codec selection in Developer Options unless the device maker explicitly documents that indicator as proof of the LE Audio profile. Codec information and a profile connection state are not interchangeable checks.

What is the difference between Bluetooth being connected and LE Audio being active?

Bluetooth is the transport and connection framework; LE Audio is a particular Bluetooth audio profile. Android can report that an accessory is connected without presenting the profile detail in the consumer settings screen. The separate BluetoothLeAudio API exists because Android tracks LE Audio as its own profile state, but the API is primarily a developer interface rather than a promise of a visible status badge.

Consequently, a phone can show the earbuds as paired, connected, and available for media while still leaving you unable to identify the active profile from that screen alone. Use the manufacturer’s documented control or pairing name as the deciding evidence. If no such indicator exists, the safest answer is that the public interface does not verify the profile, not that LE Audio is definitely active or definitely absent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why is the LE Audio option missing?

A missing option usually means a compatibility, software, connection, or interface requirement has not been met; it does not by itself identify which one. Check the phone and accessory model requirements, then the manufacturer’s exact setup flow.

Check the exact phone and earbud models

Verify each model separately. Android’s platform support requires supporting hardware and a compatible implementation, and Xiaomi says Redmi Buds 6 Pro LE Audio works only with certain phone models. Android version or Bluetooth version alone cannot settle compatibility. A phone listing that says “Bluetooth 5” or a similar generic version is not a substitute for an explicit LE Audio qualification.

Update software and firmware

Install available Android updates and current earbud firmware. Follow the model’s documented minimum software guidance: Jabra’s Elite 10 manual, for example, specifies Android 15 or later in its instructions. That is Jabra’s direction for this product, not a minimum version established for all LE Audio accessories. Firmware updates may also change where a setting appears, so reopen the app and Bluetooth details after updating.

Meet connection requirements

Make sure the earbuds are connected in the way the manufacturer expects. Xiaomi says its LE Audio option is unavailable when only one Redmi Buds 6 Pro earbud is connected; both must be paired. Other products may have different requirements. If an app reports that one side is missing, place both earbuds in the case, reconnect them, and check the maker’s prescribed pairing sequence rather than assuming the Android toggle is broken.

Use a model-specific re-pairing flow when instructed

Some instructions require removing the old Bluetooth pairing and pairing again, as Jabra’s Elite 10 flow does. Google says Pixel Buds activate LE Audio without a factory reset or re-pairing, so do not reset or re-pair simply because another model’s instructions call for it. Forgetting a device also removes its saved pairing, so use that step only when the product documentation says it is part of the LE Audio setup.

Switch to the documented fallback if audio is unstable

If the manufacturer offers a classic-audio fallback and LE Audio stutters or disconnects, use the maker’s recovery directions. Sony documents switching back to Classic Audio and adjusting its sound-quality mode for an unstable LE Audio connection. Do not assume every accessory has the same controls or fallback behavior. Record which mode is selected when troubleshooting, because switching profiles can change the device name, app status, or available settings.

Check whether the setting is simply in another place

Some phones expose a control in the accessory’s Bluetooth details, while Bose places its control in the Bose app. A model may also use automatic activation, so the absence of a switch is expected. Creative’s separate “Zen Air Plus-LEA” and “Zen Air Plus” entries are a reminder to read the available names carefully. Search the exact model number in the maker’s support site rather than following instructions for a similarly named product.

Can you enable LE Audio with only one earbud?

Not universally. Xiaomi’s Redmi Buds 6 Pro instructions specifically say the LE Audio option is not supported when only one earbud is connected, so both earbuds must be paired for that model. This is a model requirement, not a general rule for every product. If the option is missing, verify that both sides appear in the manufacturer’s app and follow the model’s connection instructions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do you need to buy new earbuds?

Only if the current earbuds do not support LE Audio or cannot receive the required firmware and pairing configuration. Android 13 platform support does not add LE Audio to an incompatible accessory. Confirm the exact model first; do not replace working earbuds solely because your phone lacks a universal switch. If you do compare products, compare phone support, exact earbud support, firmware requirements, where the control lives, and the evidence each product provides for an active LE Audio connection.

Are Audio Sharing and Auracast proof that ordinary playback uses LE Audio?

No. Audio sharing and broadcast audio are LE Audio capabilities with their own device requirements, not universal indicators of the profile used for ordinary music or calls.

Android Developers lists audio sharing and broadcast audio among LE Audio use cases. Google’s Pixel instructions require an LE Audio headset connected to use Audio Sharing and explain joining a broadcast. Those features can be relevant capability checks on supported devices, but their availability does not prove that a different playback session or accessory is currently using LE Audio. See Android Developers’ LE Audio overview and Google Pixel Phone Help: Use multiple Bluetooth audio accessories at once with a Pixel device.

A practical verification checklist

  1. Write down the exact phone model, Android version, earbud model, and firmware version.
  2. Confirm LE Audio support for that exact combination in the phone and accessory documentation.
  3. Connect both earbuds if the model requires both sides.
  4. Open the Android Bluetooth details and note whether an LE Audio control or status is shown.
  5. Open the companion app and check for a matching LE Audio status, switch, or connection mode.
  6. If the product offers separate names, select the LE-specific entry and confirm that the app or Android settings reflect it.
  7. If the model requires re-pairing, forget the old entry and repeat the documented process; otherwise, do not reset merely to search for a hidden switch.
  8. If playback is unstable, use the manufacturer’s documented Classic Audio fallback and sound-quality settings.

Keep in mind that the checklist can establish what the product documents, but it cannot manufacture a status indicator that the phone maker has not exposed. When no explicit indicator exists, report the limitation accurately instead of treating ordinary Bluetooth connection text as proof.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does LE Audio guarantee better sound quality or longer battery life?

No universal sound-quality or battery-life improvement can be promised from the presence of an LE Audio setting alone. Results depend on the phone, accessory, implementation, and listening conditions; the cited device instructions do not establish a general performance figure.

Can Android Developer Options confirm that my earbuds are using LE Audio?

A codec shown in Developer Options is not, by itself, proof of an LE Audio profile connection. Use a model-specific LE Audio status, app indicator, or pairing entry instead, if the manufacturer documents one.

Does an Android 13 phone automatically support LE Audio?

Android 13 (API level 33) includes built-in platform support, but an individual phone still needs supporting hardware and a compatible manufacturer implementation. Confirm the feature for the exact phone model rather than relying on the Android version alone.

Is there one LE Audio switch on every Android phone?

No. Android has no universal consumer-facing switch or status screen. Depending on the product, the control may be in Bluetooth details, the companion app, an automatic mode, or a separate LE Audio pairing entry.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does my phone say Connected if I cannot find LE Audio?

“Connected” confirms a Bluetooth connection but does not identify the audio profile. Check for the model’s explicit LE Audio setting, app status, or LE-specific pairing name. If none is documented, the public interface may not expose enough information to verify the profile.

Do I have to factory-reset my earbuds?

Not generally. Google says Pixel Buds activate LE Audio without a factory reset or re-pairing. Reset or forget the pairing only when the instructions for your specific model require that step.

Will re-pairing enable LE Audio on any earbuds?

No. Jabra documents re-pairing for the Elite 10, but re-pairing is not a universal requirement. First confirm compatibility, update software and firmware, and follow the exact manufacturer procedure.

What if LE Audio audio keeps stuttering?

Follow the manufacturer’s documented fallback. Sony’s INZONE instructions include switching to Classic Audio and adjusting its sound-quality mode when LE Audio is unstable. Other products may use different controls, so do not apply Sony’s sequence to every model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can one earbud be connected for LE Audio?

It depends on the model. Xiaomi says the Redmi Buds 6 Pro LE Audio option is unavailable when only one earbud is connected; both must be paired. Check your own accessory’s requirements.

Does seeing an Audio Sharing or broadcast option prove my music is using LE Audio?

No. Audio sharing and broadcast audio are separate LE Audio capabilities with their own requirements. Their availability can show relevant capability on supported devices, but it does not universally identify the profile used by an ordinary playback session.

Should I replace my earbuds if Android has no LE Audio option?

Not until you check the exact phone and earbud models, firmware, and manufacturer instructions. The missing option may reflect automatic activation or an app-based control rather than incompatibility. Replace the accessory only if its documentation confirms it lacks the required support.

The Bottom Line

There is no universal Android LE Audio switch or proof badge. Verify support for the exact phone and earbud models, update both, connect the earbuds as required, and follow the control or pairing path documented by the manufacturer. Confirm use with an explicit LE Audio setting, app status, or LE-specific pairing name—not a generic “Connected” label.
