You can schedule a downgrade from Google AI Pro to Google AI Plus in Google One. Open Gemini, select Settings & help → Manage subscription, then in Google One choose Manage membership → Change membership plan, select Google AI Plus under Downgrade options, and confirm. Your Pro benefits normally continue until the current billing cycle ends.
The important qualification is that Google does not promise continued access to Pro chats after Pro ends. Google says you cannot start new Pro chats or continue chats created with Pro. Your chat records are not described as being immediately deleted, but you should export or copy anything you may need before the change. Use the Google One membership controls rather than cancelling the subscription outright. A plan change schedules the lower tier for the next billing cycle, so you normally keep Pro access through the period you have already paid for.
Check your storage before changing plans
Google AI Plus does not have one universal storage allowance worldwide. Google’s plan information lists 400 GB and 2 TB Plus variants in the referenced help context, while AI Pro is listed at 5 TB there. The offer shown in your own plan picker is authoritative for your account and billing location.

- Open Google One and view your storage details.
- Record total use and the amounts attributed to Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.
- Note the exact AI Plus capacity displayed for your account.
- Make sure your current use will fit inside that capacity, or decide what you will delete, download or move before the downgrade takes effect.
This check matters even if your Drive files currently fit comfortably. Google services share the account’s storage quota, so mail attachments and Photos backups count alongside Drive files.
Schedule the change on the web
- Go to gemini.google.com and open Settings & help.
- Choose Manage subscription. Gemini opens the relevant Google One membership page.
- Select Manage membership, then Change membership plan.
- Under Downgrade options, choose Google AI Plus.
- Use See all benefits, where that control appears, to inspect the storage and included features.
- Review the displayed price, billing date, storage quota and payment method, then confirm the change.
After confirmation, Google One should show the scheduled plan and the date on which it becomes effective. Save a screenshot or confirmation email so you can verify the status later.
Change it from Android
Google documents two equivalent Android routes:
- In the Google One app, open Menu → Settings → Change membership plan.
- In Gemini, tap your profile picture and choose Manage subscriptions.
Continue through the same Downgrade options screen and confirm Google AI Plus. Labels can differ slightly by app version, but the destination is Google One’s plan picker.
Change it from an iPhone or iPad
Open Gemini in a browser and follow Settings & help → Manage subscription; this opens Google One’s web controls. If you originally paid through Apple, the subscription may instead be controlled in Apple’s subscription settings. In that case, use the account that processes the charge and do not assume that removing the plan in Google One has cancelled the App Store subscription.
What if a carrier or another provider bills you?
Subscriptions purchased through a mobile carrier or another third party generally must be changed or cancelled through that provider’s website or app. Google One may show the plan but not provide the controls needed to alter third-party billing.
When does the downgrade take effect?
Google says a downgrade takes effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Your current plan remains active until the end of the cycle, so a scheduled change is not the same as an immediate loss of Pro benefits.

What remains available during the current cycle?
- Your existing Pro storage quota remains in place until the effective date.
- Pro features continue under the current membership during that paid period.
- The lower Plus price and quota do not apply early merely because you scheduled the change.
How to find the effective date
After confirming, return to Google One’s membership page and look for the plan status, renewal date or scheduled-change notice. The date is tied to your billing cycle, not necessarily to the day you clicked confirm. If the account is billed through Apple or a carrier, use that provider’s receipt or subscription screen as the billing-date reference.
Will I lose my Gemini chats when AI Pro ends?
Google’s documented limitation is about access, not an immediate deletion notice. When AI Pro ends, Google says you can no longer start new chats with Pro or continue chats created with Pro.
What “cannot continue” means
A conversation that used Pro may remain visible in your Gemini history, but Google does not promise that you can reopen it and send another message after the Pro entitlement ends. A visible transcript is therefore not the same as an ongoing, editable Pro conversation. Do not schedule the downgrade assuming that Plus will preserve the same thread capabilities.
Are the records immediately deleted?
The cited Google wording does not say that chat records are immediately erased when Pro ends. It only states that the Pro chat actions become unavailable. Because Google does not guarantee long-term availability or continued access to those conversations, preserve important material independently.

- Copy text from conversations that contain decisions, instructions, code or research notes.
- Download or separately save files and images that were attached or generated in a chat.
- Record the conversation title and date so a saved transcript remains understandable.
- Remove personal or confidential information from any export that you store outside Google.
These steps protect the information you need without claiming that every Pro chat will be deleted. They also give you a usable reference if the original thread becomes read-only or cannot be continued.
How much Google Drive storage does Google AI Plus provide?
The Plus quota depends on the market and the offer attached to your account. Google’s help material lists 400 GB and 2 TB AI Plus variants, while the same referenced context lists AI Pro at 5 TB. Your Google One plan picker, not a general comparison chart, determines which tier you can select.

Do not calculate the downgrade using the 5 TB Pro allowance unless the Plus offer shown to you is also 5 TB. A lower quota can affect an account even when no file is removed on the effective date.
What happens to Drive, Gmail and Google Photos if I am over the Plus quota?
If your account is above the new storage limit, Google can restrict several functions until you reduce usage or obtain additional storage. The restrictions apply across the shared quota, not only to newly uploaded Drive files.

Existing files are not described as being instantly erased when the quota changes. The practical risk is loss of normal write, sync and backup operations, which can cause failed uploads or delayed backups until you make room.
How long can an account remain over quota?
Google’s storage policy says that if an account remains over its storage quota for two years or longer, all content in the account may be deleted. That is a long-term policy risk, not an automatic deletion triggered on the day your downgrade begins, but it makes an over-quota account unsafe to ignore.
Ways to get below the new limit
- In Google One storage details, sort or review the largest Drive files and remove obsolete copies.
- Empty Drive, Gmail and Photos trash folders; items in trash can continue counting toward storage until permanently removed.
- Search Gmail for messages with large attachments and delete unneeded threads, then empty the trash.
- Review Google Photos videos and duplicate media, download anything you need, and remove redundant copies.
- Wait for storage calculations to update, then verify the total against the Plus quota displayed for your account.
For irreplaceable material, download an independent copy before deleting anything. A cleanup that lowers the Google total but leaves no separate copy is not a backup strategy.
Which Pro features change when I move to Plus?
The supplied Google help wording identifies the clearest change: Pro-only chat actions end when the Pro plan ends. What you can establish before confirming
- Compare the storage amount shown for each plan.
- Read the benefit list attached to your account and billing region.
- Check whether any feature you use is labelled as Pro-only or subject to a separate limit.
- Look for the exact renewal price and effective date.
A generic online comparison can be stale or apply to another country. Use it only as background; treat the plan picker and Google’s current help text as the operative description for your membership.

- Open Google One membership details and verify that the scheduled Plus plan and date are displayed.
- Before that date, save important Pro chat material and any files you may need independently.
- On the effective date, check the account’s storage total and compare it with the Plus quota.
- Test a small Drive upload, Gmail send and Photos backup only if you are safely below quota; do not use a test upload to risk filling the account.
- If the account is over quota, stop relying on automatic sync and begin cleanup or purchase additional storage.
If the plan still shows Pro after the expected date, check whether the original payment was processed by Apple or a carrier and review that provider’s subscription record. If the plan shows Plus but the old quota remains temporarily visible, allow Google’s storage display time to refresh and keep your confirmation record.

Can I downgrade without interrupting current work?
