“Disable AI” does not mean the same thing in every program. A browser may expose several unrelated AI surfaces, while an editor setting can hide an entire family of features. A policy that changes the default may still allow a user to opt in unless it is enforced or locked.

How do I turn off AI in Firefox on Linux?
Use Firefox’s AI Controls page. The Block AI enhancements switch is the quickest way to block current and future AI-enhanced features on that desktop profile.
Block every supported AI enhancement
- Open Firefox.
- Open the application menu and choose Settings (called Preferences in some Linux builds). You can also use the classic menu bar: Firefox > Settings or Firefox > Preferences.

How can I block only selected Firefox AI features?

What does the VS Code setting actually disable?
Microsoft says the setting hides built-in Chat and inline suggestions and disables Copilot extensions. It is broader than hiding a single Chat view: the editor’s built-in AI entry points and the related extension functionality are disabled together.
The VS Code AI settings reference can label some controls experimental or in preview, and names can change between releases. - A Chrome installation enrolled in the organization’s browser-management service.
- An administrative policy configuration that includes the relevant Generative AI defaults or individual feature controls.
- A test Linux device enrolled in the same way as production devices.

The cited Google documentation does not establish a single consumer-facing switch for an unmanaged Linux installation. Open the current Chrome release’s own settings and review any AI or generative-AI controls it exposes, but do not assume that an enterprise policy key will work on a browser that is not enrolled.
If the setting is absent, the practical choices are to use an organization-managed browser profile, choose a browser release that provides a local control, or restrict the relevant service at the network or account level. Those alternatives are outside the specific Chrome policy procedure and should be evaluated for their effect on ordinary browser functions.

Do not treat a local preference as proof of organizational enforcement. A user can remove a JSON setting, create another profile or install an extension unless the desktop is managed as well.
