“Reset memory” can mean three different things: removing selected facts your companion saved, deleting a small set of recent messages, or closing the entire account. Those actions have different effects and cannot be substituted for one another. Export anything you need first, check billing separately, then use the app’s own privacy or account controls; uninstalling the app alone does not establish that server-side data is gone. Replika lets you delete individual saved memories but requires account deletion to remove the complete conversation history. Kindroid offers Rewind for up to its latest 10 messages, while deleting the final Kindroid is scheduled for 24 hours. The exact labels can vary by platform and geography, so verify the current help page before confirming an irreversible action.
What does “delete my data” or “reset memory” actually mean?
Choose the scope before touching a setting. A memory cleanup changes what the companion may recall; a message deletion removes conversation records covered by that feature; an account closure is the broadest action and may permanently remove your profile, chats, media and purchases associated with that account.

- Recent-message removal: targets a limited number of latest messages. It is useful for correcting a mistake, but it is not a complete history wipe.
- Full conversation-history deletion: may be available only as part of account closure. Replika explicitly says all conversation history cannot be erased without deleting the account.
- Account deletion: closes the account and starts the service’s deletion process. It can be permanent and may not cancel a subscription or transfer purchases.
- A fresh companion: usually means deleting the existing account and creating another one, not pressing a reset button inside the old account.
These categories are not universal product rules. They describe the documented behavior of Replika and Kindroid and should not be assumed for another AI companion. Before acting, write down whether your priority is privacy, correcting a recent mistake, removing an embarrassing fact, preserving a copy, stopping charges, or starting over. The right control depends on that answer.

Compare any app on five points: the scope of deletion, how quickly it happens, whether it can be reversed, what export is available, and what billing or retention consequences remain. A button labeled “delete” may apply to one companion, one memory or the whole account, so read the confirmation text instead of relying on the label.

Why uninstalling the app is not enough
Uninstalling removes the local program from a phone. It does not demonstrate that the service deleted an account, chat history, memories, backups or information held by processors. To request erasure, use the service’s account, privacy or data controls, and keep the confirmation. If a menu is unavailable, contact support with a specific request and ask which categories will be deleted and which may be retained.
Should I export my data before deleting it?
Yes, if you may need chats, journals, settings or media references later. Exporting first is the only documented way in this material to obtain a portable copy before deletion. Once an account is closed, do not assume support can restore it or reconstruct its files.
Kindroid export
- Open Profile.
- Choose Preferences.
- Open Account privacy.
- Select Export data and request the file.
Kindroid prepares a JSON Lines file containing Kindroids and settings, chat history, journal entries, selfies and video selfies, avatars, and custom voices. Photos, videos and other media are supplied as links rather than embedded files, so preserve access to those links and download important media separately if the service allows it. The export can be requested once every 30 days; the emailed download link expires after seven days. Save the file in a location you control before proceeding with deletion, and treat it as sensitive personal data.
Replika export
The cited Replika help pages document memory management and account deletion but do not establish an equivalent export path. If you need a copy of Replika content, look for a current export or data-access control in the account’s privacy settings before deleting anything; do not assume one exists or that support can restore a deleted account. Screenshots or a personal transcript may preserve information you need, but they are not a substitute for an official export and may not capture all account records.
How do I delete selected memories in Replika?
Use the companion’s Memory area when you want to remove particular saved facts without closing the account.
- Open the Replika companion and enter its Memory section.
- Review the saved items rather than deleting the whole list reflexively.
- Select the memory or memories you no longer want retained and choose the available edit or delete control.
- Recheck the list after confirmation to ensure the intended item is gone.
Replika describes memory as layered. Some items appear in the Memory tab, while another layer uses patterns from conversation history. Removing a displayed memory therefore does not equal erasing every mention of that subject from past chats. Replika warns that deleting memories may affect the companion’s ability to recall details, so remove only the entries you intend to change. If the same fact appears in several saved items, inspect each one; deleting one visible entry is not a guarantee that related context has disappeared from conversation-based behavior.

How do I delete all Replika data and conversation history?
Replika’s documented route is account deletion. The company says the action permanently removes the profile, badges, levels, XP, chat history, photos and exchanged links listed in its account-deletion guidance, and that it cannot be undone.
Delete from the mobile app
- Open Settings.
- Choose Account Settings.
- Select Delete Replika.
- Choose a reason when prompted.
- Enter the account password and complete the confirmation screens.
Delete from the web
- Sign in to the Replika web service.
- Open Account Settings.
- Choose Delete my Account.
- Complete the reason, password and final confirmation prompts.
Do not proceed until you have exported anything important and checked which account is signed in. Replika’s help guidance states that deleting the account is permanent; a support request should not be treated as a recovery plan. If you use more than one login method, verify the email address or account identifier shown before confirming, so you do not close the wrong account.
How do I reset Replika and create a new companion?
Replika’s official reset guidance says that starting fresh with a brand-new Replika requires deleting the current account and creating a new one. There is no documented in-place reset that preserves the old account while replacing its companion.
- Export or record any information you want to keep.
- Delete the existing account using the mobile or web route above.
- After deletion, register a new account and create the new Replika.
The reset is irreversible. Store purchases made on the original account cannot be transferred to the replacement account, so review your purchase history and decide whether losing those items is acceptable before confirming. A new account is also not a way to keep the old chat history available while testing a different personality; the documented process removes the old account.

How do I remove recent Kindroid messages?
Kindroid’s Rewind feature removes up to the latest 10 messages. It is a short-range correction tool, not a method for deleting older conversations or closing the account.
- Open the conversation containing the mistake.
- Use the conversation’s Rewind control.
- Choose the point covered by the available recent-message range and confirm.
The FAQ also documents editing the latest user message or regenerating the latest companion response. Those controls affect the latest exchange; they do not provide a bulk-history eraser. Messages older than the Rewind limit cannot be removed with that feature. If the unwanted material is older than the available range, decide whether retaining it is acceptable or whether the broader account-deletion process is required.

How do I delete a Kindroid account?
Kindroid handles deletion differently depending on how many Kindroids remain. All Kindroids except the last can be deleted instantly. Deleting the final Kindroid schedules a 24-hour deletion rather than completing immediately.
- Open the account’s privacy or Kindroid-management controls and select the deletion option for the intended Kindroid.
- Check whether it is the final Kindroid on the account; the service applies the 24-hour schedule to that last one.
- Read the confirmation details and submit the request.
- Keep the confirmation and wait through the stated processing period before assuming the deletion has completed.
Kindroid says deletion removes global journals, user backstory, saved places and location data, and custom voices. It retains subscription status, currency counts and other logistical data for abuse-prevention purposes. Those retained operational records mean that a deletion control should not be interpreted as instantaneous erasure of every record. The 24-hour figure is a scheduled delay for the final Kindroid, not a promise that every account record or backup is erased within exactly one day.

No. Kindroid explicitly says account deletion does not cancel a subscription. Cancel recurring billing through the app store, payment provider or other channel that originally charged you, and verify that the renewal status has changed. Deleting the account and cancelling a subscription are separate tasks; complete both if your goal is to stop future charges.
Replika’s reset instructions concern a different consequence: Store purchases cannot be transferred to a new account. Account closure and subscription cancellation are separate tasks, so complete both checks before deleting an account. Keep receipts or transaction records if you may need to resolve a charge after closure.
How long can data remain after deletion?
Deletion controls start a service-specific process; they do not prove that every backup, legally retained record or downstream copy disappears at the same moment.
In its privacy policy version accessed October 26, 2026, Replika says profile information, messages and other content, interests and preferences may be processed for up to 60 days after contract termination when needed for contract performance. The same policy says account information and financial records are retained for a minimum of 10 years after termination because of legal requirements. It also describes deletion rights extending to third-party service providers, including AI language-model providers, subject to legal obligations and other stated limits.

Those periods apply to Replika’s stated policy, not to Kindroid or every AI companion. Keep the confirmation email, note the date you submitted the request and consult the service’s current privacy policy for retention, legal holds and backup handling. A retention period is not the same as continued access to the account; it describes what the company may keep for specified purposes after termination.

- Confirm the platform: web and mobile interfaces may expose different controls.
- Check the signed-in account: a second login can make an expected memory or deletion option appear to be missing.
- Update the app, then recheck the official help center: labels and paths change.
- Review geography-specific settings: Kindroid says privacy and data-usage controls can vary by web versus mobile and, in some cases, by region.
- Do not substitute uninstalling: removing the app from a phone does not document deletion of server-held account data.
- Contact support with a precise request: state whether you want a selected memory removed, recent messages rewound, an export, or the whole account deleted. Ask what data category and retention period the response covers.
A support agent may need to verify account ownership. Do not send a password or unnecessary sensitive material in a ticket. Describe the requested scope clearly and save the ticket number with the deletion confirmation.

- Deleting a visible memory and assuming the original chat or related pattern data is gone.
- Using Rewind for messages older than Kindroid’s 10-message limit.
- Deleting a final Kindroid and expecting immediate completion instead of the documented 24-hour schedule.
- Closing an account without downloading a time-limited export link.
- Assuming account deletion stops an app-store subscription.
- Creating a replacement Replika before checking that Store purchases cannot transfer.
- Quoting Replika’s retention periods as if they applied to another service.
- Relying on an old interface path when the current web, mobile or regional controls differ.
