To remove an AI companion account safely, export anything you want to keep, cancel any App Store or Google Play subscription separately, then use the provider’s account-deletion control. Uninstalling the app only removes the software from your device; it does not normally erase cloud chats, memories, uploads, billing records or backups. If the control is missing or you need a legal erasure request, contact the provider from the registered email, ask specifically for deletion of your profile, prompts, conversations, memories, uploads and processor-held copies, and keep the written confirmation.
What should I do before deleting an AI companion account?
Deletion can be permanent, and different services handle exports, subscriptions and retained records separately. Complete these checks while you can still sign in.

1. Export your conversations and account records
Use an in-app export if one exists. Nomi documents a complete archive under Settings ▸ Export. Save the resulting chats, images, receipts and account identifiers in a location you control. If a service has no export tool, manually save irreplaceable conversations or images before starting deletion; once the account is gone, support may not be able to restore them.
2. Cancel recurring billing at the store that charged you
Account deletion and subscription cancellation are separate actions. Open the subscription-management page in the Apple App Store or Google Play account used for payment and cancel there; deleting an account does not reliably stop a store renewal. Keep the cancellation receipt with your deletion records.

3. Record identifiers and evidence
Note the account email, username, user ID, the date you requested deletion and the payment platform. Capture the final confirmation screen and save support tickets, emails and ticket numbers. These details help a provider locate an account when several logins or social sign-in methods exist.
How do I delete a Replika account?
Replika provides separate mobile and web controls, and its help center says account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

- Open Settings.
- Choose Account Settings.
- Select Delete Replika and complete the confirmation prompts.
Web account
- Open Account Settings.
- Choose Delete my Account.
- Confirm only after you have exported anything you need and stopped store billing.
Replika states that deletion removes the profile, badges, levels, XP, chat history, photos and exchanged links. Its help center also says there is no separate way to delete the entire message history while keeping the account; editing memories is a different control and does not provide a full-history wipe.
How do I delete a Nomi account and export its data?
Nomi documents both a full export and an account-deletion route, so export first if you want an archive.
- For an archive, open Settings ▸ Export and save the complete download, including chats and images.
- To delete, open Settings ▸ Account ▸ Delete account.
- Confirm the request and retain the resulting confirmation.
Nomi says account deletion removes the account and its data and revokes Nomi’s access to a connected Google account. It also documents deletion of individual records, which can be useful when you need to remove a particular item rather than close the whole account. Check the current privacy page for the service’s latest implementation details because menu labels and retention explanations can change.

- Select Delete account and confirm.
Companion AI also documents a separate reset that keeps the account while wiping conversations, memories, stories and profile data. Use that option only when you want to continue using the service without the existing content; it is not the same as closing the account.
How do I delete Character.AI data?
Character.AI’s privacy policy describes regional rights rather than one universal menu path. Depending on your location, those rights can include access, correction, deletion, objection or restriction, portability and the ability to complain.
Start with the current account or privacy controls while signed in. If there is no suitable deletion button, send a privacy-rights request from the registered email and identify the account precisely. The policy notes that available rights and model-training opt-out choices depend on jurisdiction and the policy in effect when you request them.
Does uninstalling the app delete chats and memories?
No. Uninstalling an AI companion app removes its local software and cached data from your phone, but it does not normally send a server-side account-deletion request. Cloud conversations, memories, uploaded images, profile information and provider backups can remain until you use the account control or submit a privacy request.

Uninstalling also does not cancel an Apple or Google subscription. Cancel the subscription in the store account that billed you, then complete the provider’s deletion flow. If you reinstall later, signing in with the same account can make old server-side data appear again unless the account itself was deleted.
What does account deletion remove, and what can remain?
“Deleted” usually means the live account is removed, not that every copy disappears instantly. Providers may retain records for legal obligations, fraud prevention, billing, backups or the rights of other people. The published details differ materially:

These periods describe the providers’ published policies, not a guarantee that every replica vanishes at the same moment. A legal hold, accounting rule or another person’s rights can limit what the provider may erase.
How do I make a GDPR or other privacy erasure request?
Use a formal privacy request when the in-app control is unavailable, fails, or does not cover data held by processors. Send it from the registered email whenever possible so the provider can match the request to the account and perform any required identity check.
- Address the provider’s privacy or support channel. Use the current privacy contact or help form, not only an app-store review or a message to a character.
- Identify the account. Include the registered email, username, user ID, sign-in method and the approximate creation or last-use date if known. Do not send a password.
- Describe the scope clearly. Request deletion of the profile, prompts, chats, memories, uploaded files, recordings if applicable, device or push identifiers and copies held by third-party processors. Ask the provider to delete linked accounts or revoke access where relevant.
- Ask about exceptions. Request confirmation of what will be retained for legal, billing, security or rights-of-others reasons, the retention period and whether data is still used for service improvement or model training.
- Complete identity verification. A provider may ask for information that proves control of the account. Send only what is necessary and use the provider’s secure channel.
- Keep the audit trail. Save your sent message, ticket number, replies and final confirmation, including the date and any stated deletion or backup-purge period.
Replika’s GDPR guidance says it verifies identity and responds within one month. That timeframe is specific to its published GDPR workflow; other services and jurisdictions can have different deadlines. If a provider does not resolve the request, follow its privacy escalation route and then contact the data-protection authority available in your region.

That depends on the provider, and a “reset” is not equivalent to account closure.
- Replika: its help center says there is no way to delete the entire message history without deleting the account. Memory editing is a separate feature, not a full conversation purge.
- Companion AI: the documented reset removes conversations, memories, stories and profile data while preserving the account.
- Nomi: individual-record deletion is documented, alongside full account deletion and export.
- Character.AI: use the regional privacy controls or a rights request to ask for deletion of specific categories; the available choices depend on your location.
Before using a reset, check whether it also removes uploaded media, shared links, device tokens or other content. If the description is unclear, ask support to state exactly what survives.
How can I verify that deletion actually happened?
A confirmation screen alone is useful evidence but may not describe backups or legally retained records. Use this checklist after submitting the request:

- Confirm that the subscription shows cancelled in the Apple or Google billing account.
- Open the provider’s confirmation email or ticket and note the stated completion date and exceptions.
- Check whether a connected Google, Apple or social-login permission was revoked; Nomi specifically says its Google access is revoked when the account is deleted.
- Do not create a replacement account or sign back in while a deletion request is pending unless support tells you to; a new login can complicate account matching.
- Keep the confirmation and any legal-retention explanation for your records.
If the account still appears after the provider’s stated period, reply to the original ticket with the account identifier and the confirmation number. Ask whether the remaining item is a live record, a routine backup, an accounting record or anonymous analytics, and request the applicable deletion or purge date.

Deleting the app instead of the account
Uninstalling is a device cleanup step, not a server erasure request. Always use the account control or privacy channel as well.
Forgetting an app-store subscription
Billing is administered by the store that charged you. Cancel there and retain the receipt even if the provider confirms account deletion.
Skipping the export
Permanent deletion can remove access to chats, images and receipts. Nomi’s export control is the clearest documented example; use any equivalent export offered by your service before confirming.
Asking vaguely for “my data”
Name the categories that matter: profile, prompts, chats, memories, uploads, identifiers and processor-held copies. A precise request reduces back-and-forth and makes the provider’s confirmation easier to evaluate.
Assuming every retained record is a failure
Legal accounting records, security logs, backups and anonymous analytics can follow different schedules. Ask which exception applies instead of treating a stated legal retention period as proof that the live account remains.
What is the safest order of operations?
- Export chats, images, receipts and identifiers.
- Cancel Apple App Store or Google Play billing separately.
- Use the provider’s current in-app or web deletion control.
- Submit a written privacy request if the control is missing or incomplete.
- Complete identity verification and save every ticket and confirmation.
- Check the stated backup, billing and legal-retention periods, then escalate unresolved cases to the provider’s privacy contact or your regional data-protection authority.
This sequence preserves evidence and personal copies before an irreversible action while separating three events that are often confused: uninstalling software, stopping payment and deleting server-side data.

Take a screenshot of the error, note the date and app version shown on your device, and open a privacy or support ticket while signed in if possible. Ask support to process the request manually and attach the account identifier and error evidence.
Can a provider keep a copy of a conversation shared with another person?
Potentially. Privacy rights can be limited by another person’s rights or by legal obligations, so ask the provider to explain any excluded content and the rule supporting the exception. The provider should still identify what it removed from your account.
Is a reset safer than full deletion if I might return later?
A reset preserves the login and can remove selected content, but it leaves an active account and any records that the reset does not cover. Choose it only after confirming the exact categories erased; use full deletion when your goal is to close the relationship with the service.
