What a Live Sticker is in iOS 18 and where it lives
In iOS 18, Live Stickers are typically created for use in Messages and appear in the sticker drawer when you tap the Stickers button. Depending on how you created them, a Live Sticker may be tied to a local capture, a photo you selected, or a sticker set managed by a specific content source.
That matters because “delete” can mean one of two things: removing it from your sticker list, or removing the underlying generated content. In most cases, you’ll be removing it from the sticker drawer (what you see and use in Messages).

Before you start: prerequisites and what will (and won’t) delete
- Device requirements: iPhone or iPad on iOS 18 (or iPadOS 18) with Messages available.
- App context: You’ll usually delete from the Messages sticker interface.
- What you’ll likely remove: the sticker entry you created/generated and it will stop appearing in the sticker drawer.
- What you might not remove: the original photo in your Photos app. Deleting the sticker is not the same thing as deleting the source image.
If you’re low on storage, keep in mind that generated sticker media may take space, but iOS storage cleanup behavior can vary. If deletion doesn’t free much space immediately, give iOS a little time (or check storage after a restart).
Delete a Live Sticker from the Messages sticker drawer
This is the most direct method. It removes the sticker from the Messages sticker drawer.
- Open Messages on your iPhone or iPad.
- Open (or start) a conversation.
- Tap the Stickers button in the keyboard toolbar (it may look like a sticker icon).
- Find the Live Sticker you want to delete in the sticker grid.
- Long-press the sticker.
- Tap Remove or Delete (wording can vary) from the context menu.
- Confirm the prompt if one appears.
After removing it, the sticker should disappear from the sticker drawer immediately. If it doesn’t, close and reopen Messages, then check the sticker drawer again.
Delete multiple Live Stickers quickly
Depending on the exact iOS 18 build and sticker source, bulk deletion may or may not be available inside the sticker interface. If it is, you’ll typically see a selection mode or “Edit” control.
- Open Messages → open a conversation.
- Tap Stickers.
- Look for an Edit button or multi-select icon (often in a corner of the sticker panel).
- Select the Live Stickers you want to remove.
- Tap Remove or Delete.
- Confirm when prompted.
If you don’t see an Edit or multi-select option, use the single-delete long-press method instead. That’s the most reliable path across devices.

If the sticker was created from your photo or camera: how deletion differs
Live Stickers are often generated from a source image. Deleting the sticker removes it from your sticker list, but your original image usually stays in the Photos app.
- To remove only the sticker: delete it via the Messages sticker drawer (the method above).
- To remove the source photo too: delete the photo in Photos (and, if needed, also remove it from Recently Deleted).
If you’re trying to free space and you remember the exact photos used, consider deleting the original images as well. Generated sticker derivatives may not fully match the storage freed from deleting the source photo, but it can help.
Remove a Live Sticker app/content source (if applicable)
Some sticker content in Messages can come from a sticker app or content pack. If your Live Sticker is listed under a source pack, removing the pack may be the cleanest route.
- Open Messages and tap Stickers.
- Check whether the sticker appears under a named pack or category (often at the top of the sticker panel).
- If there’s a pack name, open its panel or find the sticker’s context menu via long-press.
- If you see an option like Remove Pack or Delete for that pack, use it.
- If no removal option exists in Messages, go to Settings → find the relevant app and remove it (or disable sticker access) if you’re comfortable.
Be cautious here: removing a sticker app or pack can affect other stickers you still want. If your goal is only one Live Sticker, the direct long-press delete in the sticker drawer is safer.
Check iCloud/iMessage syncing effects
Messages and sticker experiences can sync across devices via your Apple account, especially if you use the same iCloud/iMessage identity. After deleting, you may see the sticker still appearing on another device for a short period while it syncs.

- Make the deletion on the device you’re using (iPhone or iPad).
- Wait 1–5 minutes and refresh the sticker drawer.
- If it persists, sign out of the Messages app context by closing and reopening Messages, then try again.
- As a last resort, restart the device to force sync to catch up.
If you have multiple devices, don’t assume the first deletion didn’t work until you’ve given sync time.

Troubleshooting: you can’t find the Delete/Remove option
Sometimes the context menu doesn’t offer Delete/Remove. Use the steps below in order—most issues are simple.
1) Confirm you’re long-pressing the sticker itself
Long-press the Live Sticker tile in the sticker grid. Long-pressing near the sticker panel background or on the message bubble won’t bring up the right options.
2) Update iOS/iPadOS to the latest iOS 18 point release
Feature UI and context-menu options can change between iOS 18 builds. Check your version:
- Open Settings.
- Go to General → Software Update.
- Install any available iOS 18 updates.
3) Restart Messages by fully closing the app
Close Messages completely, then reopen it and check the sticker drawer again. On iPad, swipe up from the app switcher to terminate Messages.

5) If the sticker seems “stuck” in a specific conversation
Test in another conversation. Sometimes the sticker drawer state can look stale per chat. Open a different Messages thread and verify the sticker is truly removed from the drawer.
6) Check sticker source behavior
If the sticker belongs to a pack, your delete option may only remove it from that pack—or it may only be removable by removing the pack/content source. Look for a pack name/category and repeat the long-press on the sticker tile within that specific view.
Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)
- Deleting the photo instead of the sticker: If you only wanted it gone from Messages, don’t delete your source image in Photos unless you’re sure.
- Wrong gesture: iOS expects a true long-press on the sticker tile. A tap won’t show deletion.
- Expecting instant results across all devices: iCloud sync can lag. Wait a few minutes before concluding it failed.
- Trying to delete from the wrong screen: Stickers are managed from the Messages sticker interface most of the time, not from the Photos editor.
FAQ
Will deleting a Live Sticker delete it from all iCloud devices?
Usually yes, but sync isn’t always instant. Delete on one device, then check the other device after a few minutes. If it still shows, restart that device or close/reopen Messages.

Can I delete a Live Sticker from the Photos app?
Usually you delete the source image in Photos, not the sticker entry. To remove what appears in Messages, use the sticker drawer long-press delete/remove method.
Do I need Wi‑Fi to delete Live Stickers?
Not necessarily for the deletion action itself, but Wi‑Fi can help with iCloud syncing afterward. If you’re seeing inconsistent results across devices, connect to Wi‑Fi and try again.
Is there a way to permanently delete and free storage immediately?
Deleting the sticker removes it from the sticker drawer. Storage cleanup timing can vary, and iOS may reclaim storage later. If you need maximum space back, consider deleting the source photos too and then check storage after some time or a restart.
