To delete a memory on iPhone, open Photos, tap Collections, find the Memories section, touch and hold the memory, and tap Delete Memory. On iPad, open the memory and use its More menu to reach the deletion control. Either action removes that generated memory from the Memories collection. It does not delete the photos and videos inside it.
Delete a memory on iPhone
Apple’s current iPhone guide for Photos places the deletion action in the long-press menu. The guide is labelled for iOS 27, so if your menu looks slightly different on an earlier release, the steps still apply in general terms.

- Open the Photos app and tap Collections.
- Under Memories, swipe left to browse the suggestions, or tap Memories to see the full set.
- Touch and hold the memory you want to remove.
- Tap Delete Memory.
Delete a memory on iPad
Apple’s iPad Photos guide identifies the More menu as the place to share or delete a memory. The visible labels and menu placement can shift between software versions, so if you do not see the same options, look for More inside the open memory itself.

- Open the Photos app and tap Collections.

- Tap More, then choose the delete option for the memory.
Delete a memory, suppress similar ones, or delete photos
Photos has three separate controls that people often confuse. Choose based on what you want to change.

To use Feature Less, touch and hold a memory, choose Feature Less, and then select the option that applies. Apple’s guide also says you can identify content in memories that you would like to feature less, which gives you more control than a single delete.
On iPad, Show Featured Content is found under Photos, then Collections, then the account button. On iPhone the setting is reached through Photos settings and is described in Apple’s guidance without a fixed path in the material available here, so check the current labels on your device.

What deleting a memory does not do
Deleting a memory removes only the generated entry. Apple documents deleting individual photos and videos as a separate action, so removing a memory is not the same as deleting the pictures behind it. Apple’s memory guide does not spell out how the library retains photos after a memory is removed, so do not assume the underlying photos are kept or discarded unless you check them in your library.

If you have previously chosen Feature Less or otherwise hidden suggestions and want them back, Apple’s guide describes a Reset Suggested Memories option. Its location can appear in the account controls or in Photos settings, depending on your version of iOS or iPadOS.

Common reasons the steps do not match
- The memory is not visible under Memories. Tap Memories to view the full list, since the strip only shows some suggestions.
- Long press shows different options. Use the More menu on the open memory instead, as described for iPad.
- Featured suggestions keep returning. Turn off Show Featured Content, or use Feature Less on the specific day, place, or person.
Apple’s Photos guidance for memories is the source for the steps above. Menus and labels can change between releases, so if a label differs, look for the closest match to Delete Memory, Feature Less, or Show Featured Content in the same memory’s menu.
