The most reliable way to connect a soundbar to a Toshiba Fire TV is HDMI ARC or eARC: run a high-speed HDMI cable between the TV’s ARC/eARC socket and the soundbar’s matching port, enable Toshiba’s HDMI-CEC control (usually called CE-Link or Regza Link), and select the soundbar as the TV audio output. If your TV or soundbar lacks ARC/eARC, use optical; Bluetooth is a cable-free alternative but is more prone to pairing and lip-sync problems. For delayed speech, start with Fire TV’s built-in AV Sync Tuning, then adjust Toshiba’s Lip Sync or Digital Audio Output Delay controls if your model provides them.
What is the best way to connect a soundbar to a Toshiba Fire TV?
Use HDMI ARC or eARC whenever both devices have matching ports. One HDMI cable carries the television’s sound to the bar and, with HDMI-CEC enabled, lets the Fire TV remote control soundbar volume and power. Optical is the dependable wired fallback, while Bluetooth is best reserved for situations where running a cable is impractical.

- Find the correct sockets. On the Toshiba TV, locate the HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC. On the soundbar, find its HDMI input labeled ARC or eARC. A regular HDMI input on the television will not provide the audio-return function.
- Connect the cable. Plug a high-speed HDMI cable into the TV’s ARC/eARC port and the matching port on the soundbar. Push both connectors fully home.
- Select the bar’s input. Use the soundbar remote or front-panel control to choose HDMI (the label may appear as HDMI ARC or TV ARC).
- Turn on HDMI-CEC. Toshiba may label this control CE-Link or Regza Link. Open the TV’s settings, find the HDMI-control or device-link option, and set it to On. The exact menu location and wording vary by Toshiba model and Fire TV software.
- Choose the audio system. In the television’s sound or audio-output menu, select Soundbar, Audio System, or the equivalent external-audio choice instead of the built-in speakers.
- Test volume and power. Raise and lower the volume with the Fire TV remote and put the TV into standby. A successful ARC/CEC connection normally passes both commands to the soundbar.
Amazon’s Fire TV setup specifically directs owners to use a television HDMI port that supports ARC or eARC. Toshiba’s instructions likewise require CEC Control to be on when a soundbar is connected by HDMI.
What if the TV has several HDMI ports?
Only the socket marked ARC or eARC returns sound from the TV to a soundbar. Move the cable if it is connected to an ordinary HDMI input. Source devices such as a game console or streaming box can remain in the other HDMI ports; the soundbar cable must stay in the dedicated return port.

How do I connect a Toshiba Fire TV soundbar with optical?
Optical (Toslink) is the simplest wired fallback when ARC/eARC is unavailable or unreliable. It carries digital TV audio, but it does not create the HDMI-CEC control link used for ARC volume and power commands.
- Remove the protective caps from a Toslink cable if it has them.
- Connect one end to the Toshiba TV’s optical or digital-audio output and the other to the soundbar’s optical input.
- Change the soundbar source to Optical or Digital In.
- Open the TV audio-output controls and choose the optical/digital output rather than the internal speakers.
- Set the digital format to PCM or Dolby Audio. Toshiba documentation recommends Dolby Digital for an external device connected over optical; the exact choices depend on the model.
Optical cannot use the ARC/eARC return channel, so do not expect an ARC label or HDMI-CEC behavior from this connection. If you later switch back to HDMI, change both the TV output and the bar’s input so they match the new cable.

Yes, if the Toshiba Fire TV model and the soundbar support Bluetooth audio. Bluetooth avoids cables, but wireless buffering can make speech arrive later than the picture and pairing is less predictable than a wired connection.
- Disconnect the soundbar’s HDMI and optical cables before pairing. Amazon warns that using Bluetooth at the same time as a wired audio connection can cause connection problems.
- Put the soundbar into Bluetooth-pairing mode.
- On the Fire TV, open the Bluetooth or Controllers & Bluetooth Devices area, choose the option to add a device, and select the soundbar when it appears.
- Confirm the pairing, then select the Bluetooth speaker as the active audio output if the TV asks.
Keep the bar within the recommended range and remove old or duplicate pairings if it repeatedly connects to another device. If you hear a noticeable lag, return to HDMI ARC/eARC or optical and use the Fire TV synchronization tool.

Which connection should I choose: HDMI ARC/eARC, optical, or Bluetooth?
The right choice depends on whether you need remote-control integration, which outputs your equipment supports, and how sensitive you are to latency.
| Connection | Cable requirement | Remote-control support | Audio-format capability | Sync-delay tendency | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HDMI ARC/eARC | One high-speed HDMI cable in the TV’s ARC/eARC port | HDMI-CEC can let the Fire TV remote control volume and power | Uses the formats supported by the particular TV and soundbar; Fire TV offers PCM, Dolby Digital, Passthrough and Auto choices | Usually the most integrated path; delay still depends on the devices and selected format | Primary connection for most setups |
| Optical | One Toslink cable | Does not provide the ARC/CEC control link | PCM and Dolby Audio/Dolby Digital are the relevant Toshiba choices for optical | Generally stable, but format conversion or processing can still create a mismatch | TVs or bars without ARC/eARC, or as a wired fallback |
| Bluetooth | No audio cable | Depends on the Fire TV and soundbar pairing; HDMI-CEC is not involved | Limited to the Bluetooth audio support of both devices | Most susceptible to pairing interruptions and noticeable latency | Cable-free placement when a small delay is acceptable |
Exact behavior is model-dependent. If two methods work, choose HDMI ARC/eARC for integrated control, optical for a straightforward wired path, and Bluetooth only when its convenience outweighs possible latency.

Start with Fire TV’s AV Sync Tuning. It provides a visual test so you adjust the delay while watching and listening, rather than guessing from a programme.
How do I use Fire TV AV Sync Tuning?
- Open Settings on the Fire TV.
- Choose Display & Audio, then Audio, and open AV Sync Tuning.
- Watch the test animation and listen for the tone.
- Press the left or right navigation button while the test runs. Move right when the tone happens before the flash; move left when the tone happens after the flash.
- Press Select or OK when the flash and tone occur together.
Run the test with the same connection and audio format you use for normal viewing. Changing from Bluetooth to HDMI, or changing the output format afterward, can change the amount of processing and require another adjustment.

Which Toshiba controls can make a further correction?
Some Toshiba Fire TV models expose additional controls under Settings > Sound, including Sound Bar Settings, Lip Sync, or Digital Audio Output Delay. The names and availability vary. Toshiba’s manual specifies that Digital Audio Output Delay applies when the audio output is ARC or SPDIF, and that Lip Sync may only appear for certain output modes. If a control is missing, first confirm that your current output mode supports it rather than assuming the TV is faulty.
What should I change if the delay remains?
- Try a different digital format. Fire TV audio settings can offer PCM, Dolby Digital, Passthrough, and Auto. If Passthrough leaves speech late, test PCM or Dolby Digital and repeat AV Sync Tuning. The best choice depends on what the Toshiba TV and soundbar decode.
- Use only one speaker path. Select the soundbar or audio system as the TV output and turn off duplicate television speakers. Two active paths can produce an echo that sounds like a delay even when the bar itself is synchronized.
- Prefer a wired route for testing. If you are using Bluetooth, switch to HDMI ARC/eARC or optical and compare the result with the Fire TV test animation.
- Recheck after every change. Do not carry an AV Sync value from one connection or format to another; each path can process audio differently.
What should I do when the soundbar has no sound?
Work through the physical connection and input selection before changing advanced audio settings. Most silent-bar problems are a cable in the wrong socket or a source set to the wrong input.
- Verify the TV port. For HDMI, the plug must be in the Toshiba port labeled ARC or eARC, not a standard HDMI input.
- Match the source on the soundbar. Select HDMI for an HDMI cable, Optical for Toslink, or Bluetooth for a wireless pairing. Automatic source selection is not guaranteed.
- Select the external output on the TV. Choose Soundbar or Audio System in the TV audio menu. Leaving the output on TV Speakers can prevent the bar from receiving audio.
- Check HDMI-CEC for HDMI. Enable CE-Link or Regza Link (or the equivalent HDMI-control setting) before testing ARC.
- Check mute and volume independently. Raise the soundbar’s own volume and the Fire TV volume; a muted bar can appear connected while producing no sound.
- Power-cycle the connection. Unplug the soundbar from power for 30 seconds. Reconnect the HDMI or optical cable, restore power, select the correct input, and test again.
- Isolate HDMI conflicts. Temporarily disconnect other HDMI devices if the audio handoff still fails, then reconnect them one at a time to identify a device that is disrupting the handshake.
- For Bluetooth, remove wired links. Disconnect HDMI and optical before pairing again, as simultaneous wired and Bluetooth connections can interfere.
If optical is silent, inspect both Toslink ends for an illuminated red optical signal and make sure the cable is fully seated. If HDMI is silent but optical works, the ARC port, CEC setting, cable, or HDMI handshake is the likely area to investigate.
What do CE-Link and Regza Link mean on a Toshiba TV?
They are Toshiba names commonly used for HDMI-CEC, the control system that allows compatible HDMI devices to coordinate power, input and volume commands. For a soundbar connected through ARC/eARC, CEC Control must be enabled for the Fire TV remote-control behavior to work. Different Toshiba generations and software versions may show CE-Link, Regza Link, HDMI Control, or a similar label, so look for the HDMI device-control option rather than one exact phrase.

CEC is separate from the audio cable itself: an HDMI cable in a normal port cannot become an ARC connection simply because CEC is enabled. The cable must still be connected to the dedicated ARC/eARC socket on both devices.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can I verify that lip sync is actually fixed?
Use the Fire TV AV Sync Tuning animation after the initial connection and after any format or input change. Then check several real scenes with clear dialogue, such as a news presenter or a close-up conversation. Watch for both kinds of error: a voice that consistently precedes the mouth movement and one that consistently follows it. If the test animation aligns but only one app is late, compare another app before changing the global delay; the app or programme may be introducing its own processing.
Keep a note of the connection, output format and delay setting that works. This makes it easier to restore the correct combination if someone changes the soundbar input or the TV’s digital-audio mode.
When should I switch from Bluetooth or optical to HDMI?
Switch to HDMI ARC/eARC when you want the Fire TV remote to control the bar, when Bluetooth latency persists after tuning, or when you want a single cable and automatic TV-to-bar audio return. Move to optical when ARC/eARC is unavailable, the HDMI handshake repeatedly fails, or the soundbar only accepts Toslink. Retain Bluetooth for a cable-free installation where occasional pairing work and a possible delay are acceptable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why has the Lip Sync option disappeared from my Toshiba Fire TV?
Toshiba makes Lip Sync availability dependent on the selected audio-output mode. It may not appear for every combination of TV speakers, ARC, SPDIF and digital format; check the current output mode before assuming the setting was removed.
Can I leave the Toshiba TV speakers on while using the soundbar?
It is better to use one active audio path. Two speakers playing together can create an echo or apparent lip-sync error, so select the soundbar or audio system as the output when you are testing synchronization.
Will an optical connection let my Fire TV remote change soundbar volume?
The Fire TV remote-control feature described for soundbars relies on HDMI ARC/eARC and HDMI-CEC. Optical carries audio but does not establish that HDMI control link, so you may need the soundbar remote or a separate compatible control method.
Why does my Bluetooth soundbar keep reconnecting incorrectly?
A wired HDMI or optical connection left attached can interfere with Bluetooth pairing. Disconnect both wired audio cables, remove stale pairings if necessary, put the bar back into pairing mode, and pair it again from the Fire TV Bluetooth-device menu.
