Then select 16GB, 24GB, or 32GB of unified memory based on how demanding your multitasking and projects are, and choose storage based on the files you need available locally. Apple’s current product and technical pages list both sizes; the configuration details below reflect those pages as of 2026. Check Apple’s MacBook Air page for live options and pricing in your market.
Choose 13-inch or 15-inch based on your workspace
The 13-inch M5 MacBook Air has a 13.6-inch display; the 15-inch has a 15.3-inch display. The larger panel can make it easier to keep multiple windows visible or work with media on the laptop itself. Choose the smaller size when a more compact screen is a better fit for your work and carrying preferences. Apple’s consulted specifications do not establish comparative weight figures, so these recommendations are about screen size and personal preference rather than a quantified portability difference.

| Model | Built-in display | Listed GPU | Battery capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13-inch MacBook Air M5 | 13.6 inches | 8-core or 10-core GPU | 53.8 watt-hours |
| 15-inch MacBook Air M5 | 15.3 inches | 10-core GPU | 66.5 watt-hours |
Both models list a 10-core CPU. Apple’s specifications establish the available GPU configurations, but not a measured performance difference between them. Don’t treat the 13-inch 10-core GPU option as proof of a particular speed advantage over the other configurations.

Both sizes are available with 16GB, 24GB, or 32GB of unified memory. Apple’s cited specifications list those options but do not prescribe a tier for particular jobs. - 16GB: Consider it if your usual work is relatively light and you do not routinely keep several demanding apps or large projects open together.
- 24GB: A middle option to consider if your workload mixes everyday tasks with more involved projects or frequent multitasking.
- 32GB: Consider it if your normal workflow regularly involves demanding applications and multiple large projects at the same time.
These are decision heuristics, not Apple recommendations or benchmark-based workload limits. If you are uncertain, focus on what you actually run together and how large your active projects are rather than assuming every buyer needs the highest tier.
How much internal storage do you need?
Apple lists 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB SSD options for both sizes. Estimate how much space your active projects, media, and offline files need on the laptop; the right tier depends on those local files, not just the kind of work you do.

- List the projects and files you expect to keep on the MacBook Air, including media and offline copies.
- Allow for the space those active files need together, rather than choosing solely from a single project’s size.
- Choose an internal capacity that fits the local space your workflow requires. If you can keep some files on an external SSD, that is a category-level alternative for additional storage, but it is a separate item to carry and does not increase the laptop’s internal capacity.
Check GPU, ports, and display support against your setup
The 13-inch model’s listed GPU choices are 8-core and 10-core; the 15-inch specification lists a 10-core GPU. The available specifications do not provide comparative workload benchmarks or a threshold for choosing one option, so base the decision on the listed configuration rather than an assumed performance gain.

Both sizes list two Thunderbolt 4 ports. Apple’s consulted 15-inch specification says it supports up to two external displays. If your desk setup uses monitors, drives, or other wired accessories, account for how many ports they occupy and confirm compatibility for your exact displays and accessories before buying. The cited 13-inch specification also lists two Thunderbolt 4 ports; check its display support for your intended setup rather than assuming it matches the 15-inch page.

What to expect from battery life and price
For the 13-inch M5, Apple lists up to 18 hours of video streaming and up to 15 hours of wireless web use. These are manufacturer estimates, not a guarantee of a full workday: Apple says battery life varies by use and configuration. The specifications consulted list a 53.8-watt-hour battery for the 13-inch model and a 66.5-watt-hour battery for the 15-inch model; capacity alone does not establish runtime for your workload.
Apple’s US product page showed a starting price of $1,299 when checked in 2026. That is a US starting price, not a complete configuration price list or a price promise for other regions. Check current local pricing for the size, memory, and storage you intend to buy; the consulted material does not establish prices for every configuration.
