How to Choose Friends for Your Legend of Witch Skills

Build around the element of the skills your witch actually has equipped, then choose the Friends you own whose bonuses best support that setup. In Legend of Witch: Idle RPG, a balanced team does not mean assembling a tank, healer and damage dealer: the available sources do not establish those roles or a fixed formation size. It means matching Friends to your witch’s skill element and weighing their individual bonuses instead of copying a roster or ranking without considering your account.

The elemental lineups below are examples from Cristina Mesesan’s Pocket Gamer guide, published October 28, 2026—not developer-confirmed best teams or measured damage comparisons. Use them as starting points, and adjust for your available Friends, gear and skill upgrades.

What does a balanced team mean in Legend of Witch?

For this game, balance is best understood as element-and-bonus matching. First identify the elements of the skills your witch is using. Then look at the Friends you own and consider how their element and other bonuses complement those skills. A group of individually high-ranked Friends may be a poor fit if their elements do not support your equipped skills.

The game is an idle auto-battle RPG centered on developing a witch through equipment, skills, attributes and companions. The dated character guide calls those companions “Friends.” The official store descriptions establish the game’s systems, but do not provide a developer-authored Friend tier list, a combat-role taxonomy or an exact formation limit. That makes a generic tank–healer–damage-dealer template an unsupported way to choose a lineup.

Mesesan’s guide puts the principle plainly: “The element is the deciding factor for the Friends.” Treat that as the guide author’s advice, not an official developer rule or a claim backed by published damage measurements. The practical implication is to start with your skill setup and your actual roster, rather than assuming one lineup is best for every player.

How do you build around your favorite Friend?

Keep the Friend you want to use as the starting point, but check whether the witch’s equipped skills make that Friend’s element relevant. Then compare the bonuses of realistic alternatives you own. This gives you a way to build around a favorite without assuming that every favorite belongs in every skill setup.

  1. Identify the skills in use. Check the element shown for the witch’s equipped skills. The relevant comparison is with the skills you are actually using, not a hypothetical skill setup or an element you might choose later.
  2. Check your favorite Friend’s element. Determine which element the Friend supports, then compare it with the equipped skills. If they do not align, decide whether to change the skill setup or use a different Friend for that build.
  3. Compare bonuses among owned options. Consider whether your build would benefit more from elemental attack, Skill Damage or a resource bonus. The guide’s Fire and Wind examples show why that distinction matters: a Friend with an appealing secondary bonus is not automatically the better damage-focused choice.
  4. Use attainable alternatives. Make the best comparison you can among Friends you have. Mesesan cautions that five-star Friends can be hard to acquire, so an idealized lineup is not a useful requirement for making progress with the roster available to you.
  5. Reassess when the build changes. If you change equipped skills, improve relevant skills, or change gear, revisit whether the Friends still fit. The guide’s Water and Lightning assessments are conditional on gear and skill upgrades, respectively.

This process is a decision framework, not a promise that a particular lineup will produce a specific damage increase. The cited sources do not publish comparative damage figures, win rates or an optimal composition measured across player accounts.

Which Friends does the dated guide suggest for each element?

Mesesan’s October 28, 2026 guide gives five-name examples for each element. They are useful reference lineups, not proof that every player should use all five names, that five is a universal slot limit, or that a lineup is permanently optimal.

Skill element Friends named in the guide What to weigh
Fire Flame, Lava, Pyro, Bella, Draco Compare Skill Damage with a Bonus Gold option; the guide describes Fire as workable early to midgame, not universally strongest.
Wind Pega, Echor, Eagle, Leaf, Storm If Storm is missing, the guide mentions Luger or Willow; Willow offers Skill Damage but less Wind ATK in the described comparison.
Water Aquari, Silva, Marine, Snow, Pen Availability and gear affect the assessment; the guide does not establish a dominant Water lineup.
Lightning Aura, Prism, Thor, Sparky, Ivy The guide favors this lineup conditionally, especially with upgraded skills; its view that Aura is mandatory is the author’s opinion.

What should you consider when choosing Fire Friends?

The guide’s Fire example gives you a concrete reason to compare bonuses rather than treating a suggested lineup as a fixed checklist. Bella is associated with Skill Damage, while the alternative under discussion offers Bonus Gold. Those bonuses serve different priorities, and the guide does not provide numbers that would establish a universal winner between them.

If the purpose of the lineup is to support the witch’s Fire skills, decide how you value the available elemental and skill-related bonuses against the resource benefit. A Bonus Gold option may appeal when resource income is your priority; a Skill Damage option may better suit a choice focused on skill damage. That is a trade-off to make from the bonuses shown for Friends you own—not evidence that one bonus has a known, quantified advantage in all situations.

The guide describes Fire as workable in the early to midgame. That qualification matters: it does not claim Fire is the strongest element throughout the game, or that the named lineup stays optimal as a player’s equipment, skills and roster develop. Use the recommendation as an example of how to compare options, not as an instruction to pursue all five names regardless of availability.

What can you use instead of Storm in a Wind team?

If Storm is missing, Mesesan’s Wind discussion specifically mentions Luger or Willow as alternatives. The guide’s comparison gives a reason to choose rather than merely listing substitutes: Willow offers Skill Damage but less Wind ATK than the suggested alternative in the described comparison.

Which trade-off suits your build depends on the bonuses you value and the Friends available to you. If you prefer the Skill Damage bonus, Willow may be the option to consider; if the described Wind ATK difference matters more to your choice, weigh the other option accordingly. The source supplies no numerical values for either bonus, so it does not support a percentage-based claim or a guaranteed damage outcome.

Do not treat the mention of Luger or Willow as proof that either is identical to Storm in every respect. The useful lesson is narrower: when a recommended Friend is unavailable, compare the element and listed bonuses of accessible Friends instead of assuming the lineup cannot work without that exact name.

Is a Water lineup the best choice for your roster?

The dated guide names Aquari, Silva, Marine, Snow and Pen for Water, but qualifies its assessment by availability and gear. It does not establish Water as a dominant meta or offer a gear-independent verdict. That makes Water a case where you should avoid treating a list of names as a guarantee of performance.

Compare the Water Friends you actually have and inspect the gear supporting the build before deciding that the lineup is weak or strong. If you lack some of the named Friends, the available evidence does not identify a single equivalent replacement. Apply the same selection method: check element match, compare the bonuses available on your roster, and account for the gear you have rather than assuming an unsupported substitute is equal.

Is Lightning better if you do not have every recommended Friend?

The guide’s Lightning lineup is Aura, Prism, Thor, Sparky and Ivy, and its favorable assessment is conditional—especially on having upgraded skills. It does not establish that Lightning is always better than the other elements or that a player must own every named Friend to make a useful Lightning build.

Mesesan describes Aura as mandatory, but that is the guide author’s opinion, not a demonstrated universal requirement. If Aura or another recommended Friend is missing, evaluate the Lightning-aligned options you do own and their bonuses. The sources do not name a specific replacement for every missing Lightning Friend, so it would be misleading to label an unmentioned character an equivalent substitute.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before judging the lineup, consider whether the relevant skills have been upgraded. A conditional recommendation tied to upgrades is not the same as a ranking that applies equally to an early account and a developed one. The guide supplies no numerical comparison between upgraded and unupgraded versions, so use the condition as a reason to reassess—not as a quantified forecast.

Should you pick your highest-star Friends or match elements?

Do not choose solely by star count. The guide cautions that five-star Friends can be difficult to acquire and recommends thinking about element and bonuses; it does not provide evidence that a higher-star, mismatched Friend will outperform an attainable Friend aligned with the witch’s skills.

In practice, compare the options on your account rather than holding your lineup to a roster you do not own. A useful shortlist considers:

  • Skill-element match: Does the Friend support the element of the witch’s equipped skills?
  • Availability: Can you use the Friend now, or is it a difficult-to-acquire target?
  • Bonus type: Are you choosing between elemental attack, Skill Damage or a resource bonus?
  • Build state: Do your gear and relevant skill upgrades support the recommendation?

These are comparison questions, not a hidden point system. The sources do not publish weights for ranking those factors, and no precise tier order can be inferred from them.

A simple worksheet for comparing two Friends

When two owned Friends seem close, write down the comparison instead of relying on a headline tier. Put the witch’s current skill element at the top. Under that, record each candidate’s matching element, elemental attack benefit, Skill Damage benefit and any resource bonus shown in the game. Mark whether the candidate is already usable or would require a difficult acquisition. This makes a trade-off visible: one Friend may support more direct damage while another helps Bonus Gold or another progression priority.

Next, note the gear and skill-upgrade state that the recommendation assumes. A candidate that looks attractive in a developed account may not deserve immediate resources on an early account if the relevant gear or skills are not ready. Conversely, replacing a matching Friend merely because its secondary bonus is less exciting can be premature when its element is the part the guide identifies as decisive.

Do not add imaginary points for an unlisted effect. The available material does not give numerical weights, cooldown details or test results that would let you calculate a universal score. The worksheet is for making your account’s priorities explicit, not for manufacturing a formula the game has not published.

Common team-building mistakes to avoid

  • Copying all five names blindly: The elemental lists are examples from a dated guide, not a guaranteed formation requirement. Use only the Friends you can actually deploy.
  • Ignoring the skill screen: A Friend’s reputation cannot compensate for a mismatch with the witch’s equipped skill element under the guide’s stated rule.
  • Confusing resource value with combat value: Bonus Gold and Skill Damage answer different needs. Neither is universally superior in the material available.
  • Calling every missing Friend replaceable: Only Luger and Willow are specifically mentioned as Wind alternatives to Storm. Do not present an unnamed character as an equivalent substitute.
  • Judging Water without checking gear: The Water assessment is explicitly conditioned by gear and availability.
  • Assuming Lightning is automatic: Its favorable description depends especially on upgraded skills, and Aura’s “mandatory” status is an opinion from the guide.
  • Treating a tier table as permanent: Echor appears twice in different tiers in the guide’s overall table, and game updates can change Friends equipment or enhancement.

When should you change your Friends or revisit a lineup?

Recheck the lineup when a meaningful part of the build changes: equipped skill elements, relevant skill upgrades, gear, or which Friends are available. Those are the variables the dated recommendations make relevant. If the skills change element, a Friend that suited the old setup may no longer be the best match under the guide’s stated principle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Version changes are another reason to revisit an old recommendation. The inspected US App Store listing shows version 1.14 dated September 21, 2026, and its version history records changes involving Friends equipment and enhancement. That is a dated listing for the US storefront, not proof that version 1.14 is the latest version in every region or on every platform. It does show why a lineup guide should not be treated as a permanent balance guarantee.

Before investing scarce upgrade materials, check the current in-game descriptions and update notes available to your platform. A store snapshot can differ by region, and the reviewed listings do not establish that every device receives changes on the same date. Keep the elemental principle as your baseline, then verify that the Friend bonuses and equipment wording still match your version.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

The guide’s broader tier table contains an internal inconsistency: Echor appears twice in different tiers. For that reason, rely on the attributed elemental examples and the specific bonus comparisons rather than treating the overall tier labels as a precise ranking. The available sources do not establish developer-confirmed rankings or independent comparative combat measurements.

What does a practical upgrade order look like?

There is no published universal spending order, but the evidence supports a sensible sequence. First make sure the witch’s equipped skills and Friends share the intended element. Then inspect the bonus trade-off among Friends you can use now. After that, improve the gear and relevant skills that the chosen lineup depends on. Revisit the comparison when a new Friend becomes available instead of automatically displacing a well-matched, upgraded option.

This order avoids a common waste: investing heavily in a celebrated Friend while the active skills belong to another element, or judging a conditional Lightning lineup before its skills are upgraded. It also respects the guide’s warning about five-star availability. A difficult-to-acquire target can remain a future goal, but it should not prevent you from building around an attainable matching Friend today.

How can you make the final choice without a universal tier list?

Use the choice that best fits the build you can actually assemble. Start with skill element, compare the bonuses on owned Friends, and account for gear and upgrades; do not let a dated example override the details of your own setup.

  1. Write down the element of the witch’s equipped skills.
  2. List the Friends you own that support that element.
  3. Compare their elemental benefit and other listed bonuses, including Skill Damage or resource bonuses where relevant.
  4. Check whether the guide’s recommendation depends on gear or upgraded skills in your case.
  5. Choose among attainable options, then reconsider the lineup if the skills, gear, upgrades or version changes.

That approach keeps the recommendation proportional to the evidence: the named lineups are examples from a dated guide, while your lineup depends on the skills and Friends available to you. No cited source supports a precise damage percentage, win-rate claim or universal best team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Legend of Witch have a developer-approved Friend tier list?

The official store listings establish the game and its development systems, but the sources cited here do not provide a developer-authored Friend tier list. The elemental recommendations discussed in this guide are attributed to Pocket Gamer author Cristina Mesesan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I play Legend of Witch on PC?

An official Google Play Games PC listing exists, in addition to the inspected US App Store listing. The available information does not establish that Friend bonuses or team-building rules differ between those platforms.

Do the five names in an elemental lineup mean I need five team slots?

No slot limit is established by the cited sources. The five-name lists should be read as the guide’s examples, not proof of a universal formation size.

Do store ratings or download figures show that a team is effective?

No. Store popularity measures do not establish combat effectiveness, and the cited material provides no independently verified team damage or win-rate comparisons.

How should I build around one favorite Friend?

Check that Friend’s element against the witch’s equipped skills, then compare its listed bonuses with attainable Friends of the same element. If the elements conflict, either change the skill setup or choose a better-matched Friend; no universal rule requires abandoning a favorite.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I do if I cannot obtain a five-star Friend?

Use an owned, element-matched Friend and compare its elemental, Skill Damage and resource bonuses with other accessible options. The guide notes that five-star Friends can be difficult to acquire, so they are targets rather than mandatory entry requirements.

Is Willow always the best replacement for Storm?

No. The Wind discussion mentions Luger or Willow. Willow is described as offering Skill Damage but less Wind ATK in that comparison, and no numerical result establishes a universal winner.

Can I call Aura mandatory for Lightning?

Mesesan describes Aura as mandatory in the guide, but that is her opinion rather than a developer-confirmed requirement or independently measured rule. Evaluate the Lightning Friends you own, especially alongside upgraded skills.

Why might a team recommendation change after an update?

The US App Store version history inspected for September 21, 2026 records changes involving Friends equipment and enhancement. Store versions can differ by region and platform, so recheck current descriptions and notes rather than treating a dated lineup as permanent.

The Bottom Line

Match Friends to the elements of your equipped skills first. Then choose among the Friends you actually own by comparing elemental benefit, Skill Damage or resource bonuses, gear and skill-upgrade requirements. Fire, Wind, Water and Lightning examples from the October 28, 2026 Pocket Gamer guide are useful starting points, not universal rankings or guarantees.
