Choose cryptocurrency tax software for South Korean accounts by checking its exact import method for each exchange and wallet, then confirming that it captures and reconciles your complete transaction history. Koinly lists South Korea as a calculation country and documents an Upbit CSV import; CoinTracking documents a Bithumb CSV import. Those capabilities show that records can be imported—not that either service produces a Korean National Tax Service (NTS)-approved filing form. As of October 2026, NTS guidance schedules separate taxation of covered virtual-asset transfers or lending from January 1, 2027, so a Korean tax professional should review how any software output applies to you.

What should you look for in crypto tax software for South Korea?

Start with the accounts and records you actually use, not a vendor’s broad claim that it “supports Korea.” A useful tool must ingest the relevant history from your exchanges and self-custody wallets, make it possible to identify missing or duplicate activity, and produce calculations and records that a tax professional can inspect.

That distinction matters because the National Assembly Budget Office reported that reconstructing transaction histories and acquisition costs across multiple accounts can be difficult. In its September 17, 2026 report, it also noted that overseas platforms complicate visibility. Software can organize imported records, but it cannot reliably calculate from activity it never received or resolve every unsettled Korean tax classification.

Evaluate these five things before choosing

  1. Exact account and import path: Verify the current integration for each exchange, account type, and wallet. Establish whether the option is an API connection or a file upload; do not assume one follows from the other.
  2. Coverage of your history: Check whether you can include every relevant year and account, with deposits, withdrawals, trades, and fees. A partial import can affect cost calculations and the report built from them.
  3. Reconciliation tools: Look for itemized records and ways to investigate unmatched transfers, duplicates, missing acquisition costs, and other gaps. You need to be able to explain how a transaction moved between accounts you control.
  4. Reviewable output: Prefer exports that let you and an adviser inspect individual transactions, assumptions, and unresolved issues. A polished summary alone does not establish that the figures are complete or that the output is an official Korean filing form.
  5. Non-trade activity handling: Find out how the product labels staking, lending, hard forks, airdrops, and other activity that is not an ordinary trade. Keep your reasoning and supporting records available for professional review rather than treating an app label as a legal determination.

What is the current South Korean tax context?

The NTS says an Income Tax Act amendment passed in December 2024 postponed virtual-asset income taxation by two years. Under its current guidance, transfers or lending from January 1, 2027 are scheduled to be taxed separately as other income. The NTS describes the income calculation as consideration received for the transfer or lending, less actual acquisition cost and incidental expenses. The law defines covered assets by reference to the Act on the Protection of Virtual Asset Users.

This is a scheduled start date in current guidance, not a reason to assume that every transaction or software category has a settled treatment. The Budget Office’s September 17, 2026 report identifies a lack of clear criteria for returns from staking, lending, hard forks, and airdrops. If you have those activities, ask a Korean tax professional how they should be classified and documented in your circumstances.

Which reporting dates should you keep distinct?

  • January 1, 2027: Current NTS guidance schedules separate taxation of covered virtual-asset transfers or lending from this date.
  • January 1, 2027: The NTS says registered virtual-asset service providers must submit transaction statements and aggregate reports for transactions from this date.
  • January 1, 2023: Data required for corporate tax has been required for transactions from this date. This is a separate reporting point; do not confuse it with the scheduled start of separate taxation for individuals.

These dates concern different obligations and do not by themselves determine how a particular person or company should file. Confirm which rules apply to your tax status and activity with a qualified Korean adviser.

Which crypto tax software supports Upbit?

Koinly documents an Upbit workflow in which you download transaction history and import it as a file or CSV. Its country list includes South Korea. The cited documentation establishes a country setting and a file-import path; it does not establish direct Upbit API syncing, an NTS-approved report, or a Korean-specific filing form.

If you use Upbit, check Koinly’s current instructions for the account and history you need to import, then compare the imported activity with the original exchange export. Koinly’s guidance also says users should check import completeness and transaction tagging. Do not treat a successful upload as proof that every year, transaction, or fee was captured correctly.

Can I import Bithumb transactions by CSV?

CoinTracking documents a Bithumb-specific workflow: export transaction history as a CSV file and upload it. That supports a claim about CSV ingestion only. The cited documentation does not establish a Korean-specific filing form, NTS approval, or universal API coverage for Korean exchanges.

If Bithumb is one of several accounts you use, assess it as one part of the full record rather than assuming that its CSV covers activity on other exchanges or wallets. Confirm the dates in the export, upload the records, and reconcile them against your other accounts before relying on a resulting calculation.

Tool Documented South Korean exchange path What the documentation establishes What it does not establish
Koinly Upbit transaction-history file/CSV import South Korea appears on its calculation-country list; an Upbit file import is documented; users are told to check completeness and transaction tagging. Direct Upbit API support, an NTS-approved report, or a Korean-specific filing form.
CoinTracking Bithumb transaction-history CSV upload A Bithumb-specific CSV import workflow is documented. A Korean-specific filing form, NTS approval, or universal API coverage for Korean exchanges.

These are documented paths, not a complete ranking of either product or a guarantee that a path is available for every account type today. Check the provider’s current instructions before choosing, especially if your account uses a different exchange, wallet, or export format.

How do API sync and file imports differ?

An API sync is an exchange connection offered only when the tax-software provider supports that exchange’s API. A file import uses an exported CSV or other supported file instead. Koinly’s general instructions distinguish these methods, and they are not interchangeable: the specific Upbit path documented here is file import, not proof of an API connection.

File imports require more attention after the initial upload. Koinly’s instructions say to repeat a file import to add newer trades. If you export activity periodically, track the date range included in each file and check for overlap or gaps when importing updates. Otherwise, you may leave out newer transactions or create duplicates.

How can you check whether the tax report is complete?

Test a candidate product with your own records before relying on its calculations. The aim is to establish that the software has all the activity needed to calculate from your history and that you can trace the output back to source records.

  1. Collect original records. Save exchange exports and wallet records, noting the dates each export covers. Keep these source files even after importing them.
  2. Build an account inventory. List the exchanges, account types, self-custody wallets, and other relevant sources of activity. Identify where you have used overseas platforms, chains, or decentralized finance (DeFi), since those may require separate records or handling.
  3. Import every relevant period. Compare each software import with the export or wallet history it came from. Check that the file covers the intended dates and that newer activity has been added where needed.
  4. Review transaction categories and costs. Inspect trades, deposits, withdrawals, and fees. Investigate missing acquisition costs, transactions without a clear match, and any activity the software categorized in a way you do not understand.
  5. Match transfers between accounts you control. Compare the sending and receiving records and investigate activity the software leaves unmatched. This helps reveal gaps or duplicates; do not assume that every unmatched entry is a taxable sale or a harmless transfer.
  6. Reconcile and document exceptions. Compare balances and transaction histories across accounts, resolve duplicates where possible, and write down the assumptions you used for ambiguous activity. Preserve the report export alongside the source files so an adviser can trace the calculation.
  7. Have the result reviewed. Ask a Korean tax professional to assess the data, assumptions, and report for your circumstances before treating it as a filing-ready answer.

Koinly warns that output reflects errors in incomplete or incorrect input. More broadly, a software calculation cannot repair a missing record simply by presenting the result neatly. If your history spans multiple accounts, the reconciliation and source-file review are part of choosing a tool—not optional polish after the calculation.

How should you handle wallets, overseas exchanges, and DeFi activity?

Do not infer wallet or chain coverage from an exchange import. Check that the product can ingest the particular self-custody wallets and chains you used, and determine whether overseas exchange and DeFi records need a separate import or manual review. The available documentation for the two named exchange paths establishes Upbit CSV import for Koinly and Bithumb CSV upload for CoinTracking; it does not establish comprehensive wallet, chain, overseas-platform, or DeFi coverage.

Once records are collected, compare movements between accounts you control rather than judging one exchange export in isolation. The Budget Office has noted that reconstructing histories and acquisition costs across multiple accounts is difficult, particularly where overseas platforms are involved. If a movement has no matching record, preserve the relevant source information and ask an adviser how to treat it instead of letting a software category settle the question.

Does this software produce a South Korean tax filing form?

The cited product documentation does not establish that Koinly or CoinTracking produces an NTS-approved Korean filing form. It documents data-import capabilities, and Koinly lists South Korea for tax calculations; neither fact is proof of official acceptance or of a Korean-specific form.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ask a provider what its report contains and whether it is a general transaction or calculation export. Then ask your Korean tax professional whether that output is suitable for your specific filing or recordkeeping needs. Keep a distinction between a report that helps organize data and a form that an authority has approved.

What records should you keep with your software report?

Retain source records alongside the calculations, so an adviser can follow how the software got from raw activity to an output. Organize the files by account and covered date range, and keep a written note of assumptions for activity that could not be classified confidently.

  • Original exchange exports and wallet records, with date ranges recorded.
  • Copies of the files you imported and the reports you generated.
  • A record of accounts and sources included or omitted, including relevant overseas exchanges and wallets.
  • Notes on reconciliation issues, duplicates, unmatched activity, missing acquisition costs, and manual changes.
  • Written assumptions or adviser guidance on staking, lending, hard forks, airdrops, and other ambiguous activity.

These are practical recordkeeping steps, not a claim that a particular storage device or software subscription is required by Korean tax law. The underlying goal is traceability: an adviser should be able to inspect the source transaction and understand how it appears in the exported report.

What is the safest way to make the final choice?

Shortlist products only after confirming a documented import route for every major source of your activity. Then test the imports against original records and judge the tool by whether you can find and explain gaps—not only by whether it generates a total.

For an Upbit account, the documented option here is Koinly’s CSV/file import, with South Korea listed as a calculation country. For a Bithumb account, CoinTracking documents CSV upload. Neither documented path establishes NTS approval or a Korean filing form. If your activity includes several accounts, overseas platforms, self-custody wallets, or ambiguous non-trade returns, select for reviewability and complete records, then have the resulting treatment checked by a Korean professional.

The scale of the issue makes careful records useful: the National Assembly Budget Office reported 11.13 million domestic virtual-asset exchange user accounts and approximately KRW 5.4 trillion in average daily trading volume in the second half of 2025. That figure is context about the domestic market, not a measure of any individual’s tax exposure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Korean exchanges report crypto transactions to the NTS?

The NTS says registered virtual-asset service providers must submit transaction statements and aggregate reports for transactions from January 1, 2027. That reporting requirement is separate from whether a particular tax-software report is accepted as a filing form.

Are staking rewards taxable in South Korea?

The National Assembly Budget Office reported in September 2026 that clear criteria for returns from staking had not been established. A software category alone cannot resolve that uncertainty; ask a Korean tax professional how to document and treat your specific activity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use one tax app for all my crypto accounts?

That depends on the exact exchanges, account types, wallets, and chains you used; the documented Upbit and Bithumb CSV paths do not prove universal coverage. Before relying on a single product, confirm an import method for each source and check that the combined history can be reconciled.

Do I need to keep records from before 2027?

The NTS’s scheduled taxation date for covered transfers or lending is January 1, 2027, but the guidance and Budget Office report both make acquisition costs and transaction histories relevant to calculation and reconstruction. Preserve older source records and ask an adviser which periods matter for your circumstances.
