Choose the exact phone model and the country where you will use it before choosing a logo. Compare its promised Android-version upgrades, security-patch end date, patch cadence, rollout timing, regional availability and whether the policy covers the whole range or only a premium tier. OPPO has the clearest published flagship promise—four major ColorOS upgrades and five years of security patches for selected models from 2023. OnePlus publishes a model-specific date for the OnePlus 13: security support through 7 January 2031. vivo publishes monthly, quarterly and regular schedules, with selected X-series devices listed into 2031–2032, while its UK policy gives all vivo smartphones three years of regular security updates. Those statements are not interchangeable: the model, region and software channel determine what you actually receive.
Which update promises should you compare?
“Software support” contains two separate promises. An Android-version upgrade changes the operating system and can add platform features, APIs and compatibility improvements. A security patch closes known vulnerabilities without necessarily changing the Android version. A phone can receive one promise for longer than the other, so record both before buying.

Use six checks for every candidate:
- Major-version count: how many Android or ColorOS upgrades are explicitly promised?
- Security end date: is support expressed as a calendar date or only as a number of years?
- Cadence: does the manufacturer classify the model as monthly, quarterly or regular?
- Rollout speed: does the policy say when your country and carrier receive each release?
- Regional eligibility: does the statement apply to your market, imported hardware or only a named region?
- Tier coverage: is the commitment brand-wide, or limited to selected flagships?
A promise of “five years” is useful only when you know whether it means five years of security fixes, five Android upgrades, or both. Keep the two columns separate in your notes.
What does vivo promise for Funtouch OS updates?
vivo’s security page assigns devices to monthly, quarterly or regular patch categories and provides model-level Android Enterprise end dates. That is more precise than a single brand-wide number, but it also means two vivo phones can have materially different support.
How the vivo schedules work
The schedule category is attached to the model. Monthly status indicates the intended cadence is every month; quarterly status groups releases into roughly three-month intervals; regular status is a less specific recurring schedule. The page warns that timing can vary by model and region, so a category is not a guaranteed arrival day for every country.
What the published end dates show
Examples on vivo’s current security page include X200 and X300 models with support extending into 2031–2032. The same page lists V-series devices with shorter end dates. Because the dates differ by model, a statement about an X-series phone cannot be applied to a V-series phone without checking the listing for that exact device.

vivo UK states: “All vivo smartphones will receive 3 years of regular security updates and patches.” That is a regional policy statement, not proof that every market uses the same term or schedule. vivo also notes that model availability and operator cadence can differ by country. If you buy outside the UK, use the security page for the country where the handset will be activated.
What does OPPO promise for ColorOS support?
OPPO’s 20 December 2022 announcement says it guarantees four major ColorOS updates and five years of regular security patches for selected flagship models starting in 2023. The word selected is decisive: the announcement does not turn every OPPO phone into a four-upgrade device.
How to apply the flagship commitment
First identify the exact Find-series or other flagship model. Then confirm that model appears in the applicable OPPO support material for your market. If it is covered, the four-major-upgrade and five-year-security terms are the strongest clearly stated package among the three brands in this comparison. If it is not listed, do not borrow the flagship promise from a nearby model.
The separate security baseline
OPPO’s product-security table separately states a minimum three-year security-update period for smartphones and tablets and lists long end dates for current products, including Find models. This baseline is a floor for security support; it does not establish a number of Android-version upgrades. Check the model row rather than assuming that the minimum applies instead of a longer flagship commitment.
Regional and timing limits
The flagship announcement gives the length of the promise but does not establish one worldwide rollout calendar. A phone may receive a ColorOS build at different times in different markets. Treat the end date and the delivery cadence as separate pieces of evidence when comparing an OPPO listing with a vivo or OnePlus listing.
What does OnePlus promise, and what happens if OxygenOS changes?
OnePlus’ product-security page promises at least three years of smartphone security updates and publishes an end date for individual models. The table lists the OnePlus 13 through 07-Jan-2031, giving buyers a concrete date instead of a vague “several years” statement.
What the OnePlus 13 date does and does not prove
07-Jan-2031 is the security-support end date shown for the OnePlus 13. The security table does not, by itself, state how many major Android upgrades that model will receive or whether every market gets patches on the same day. Record the date as a security commitment and seek the model’s separate upgrade information before treating it as an Android-version promise.
OxygenOS and ColorOS are related but different decisions
A 2026 OnePlus notice says eligible devices may be offered an update from OxygenOS to ColorOS while retaining their originally committed support periods. The interface can therefore change without resetting the security-support clock. Check whether your exact model and region are eligible, and distinguish the software name you prefer from the date through which security fixes are promised.

How do the published terms compare by model?
The table uses only model-level or policy-level terms that are explicitly published. Where a document does not state an Android-upgrade count, cadence or region, that absence is shown rather than inferred.
| Exact model or published group | Android upgrades | Security-support end date | Patch frequency | Region | Current OS or transition |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| OnePlus 13 | Not stated in the product-security table | 07-Jan-2031 | Not stated in the table; OnePlus promises at least three years of smartphone security updates | Regional scope is not stated in the cited table | OxygenOS; eligible devices may receive an option to update to ColorOS under the 2026 notice |
| OPPO selected flagship models covered from 2023 | Four major ColorOS updates | Five years of regular security patches; the announcement gives a duration rather than one calendar date | Regular security patches | Announcement does not define one region | ColorOS |
| vivo X200/X300 examples listed on vivo’s security page | Model schedule is listed; an upgrade count is not stated in the cited summary | Selected models extend into 2031–2032 | Monthly, quarterly or regular, depending on the model | Timing, availability and operator cadence vary by country | Funtouch OS where that regional software applies |
Official support pages do not set a universal retail price. At checkout, write the seller’s current price beside the applicable end date, then estimate how many supported years remain from your intended purchase date. A phone with a lower price can cost more per supported year if its end date is close.
How do you verify support before checkout?
Use this sequence for an unlocked phone, a carrier model or an imported handset. Save a screenshot or PDF of the policy page because support tables and regional listings can change.
- Write the complete identity. Record the commercial name, storage and memory configuration, model number, country of sale and intended carrier. A regional variant can have a different listing from a similarly named import.
- Open the manufacturer’s regional security page. Select your country first, then search for the exact model number. Do not stop at a family name such as “X series” or “Find series.”
- Capture two dates or statements. Note the Android-version upgrade commitment separately from the security-support end date. If one is absent, mark it as not stated rather than assuming the other covers it.
- Record the cadence category. For vivo, copy whether the device is monthly, quarterly or regular. For OPPO and OnePlus, record any cadence language that the model page actually provides.
- Check rollout qualifications. Look for wording about country, carrier, operator testing or staged deployment. vivo explicitly warns that timing varies by region and model; similar caveats can make an announced patch arrive later than a headline date.
- Check software-transition notices. OnePlus owners should see whether an OxygenOS-to-ColorOS option applies to their model and region. The interface choice should not be confused with the original support period.
- Calculate remaining coverage. Subtract your planned purchase date from the published security end date. Use the result to compare cost per supported year, not just the phone’s launch price.
- Recheck immediately before payment. Confirm that the seller’s model number matches the policy row and that the regional page still lists the same end date.
Verify before checkout: model number, country variant, Android-upgrade count, security end date, cadence, carrier eligibility and any OS-transition notice. If one item is missing, ask the seller or manufacturer for written confirmation before paying.
How should different buyers choose?
If you want the clearest long flagship commitment
Start with an OPPO flagship that is explicitly covered by the selected-model policy. Its four major ColorOS upgrades and five years of regular security patches are the most clearly expressed package in the published material. Confirm the exact Find-series model and your region; the commitment is not automatically inherited by every OPPO tier.
If you prefer a dated, model-specific security horizon
The OnePlus 13 is easier to calendar because the security table names 07-Jan-2031. That date lets you compare a seller’s price with a defined support horizon. You still need separate information about major Android upgrades and local rollout timing.
If you are considering a vivo X-series phone
Use vivo’s model page rather than the brand name. Selected X200 and X300 entries reach into 2031–2032, and the page identifies whether the model is monthly, quarterly or regular. Confirm that the entry applies to your country and operator; an X-series date is not a guarantee for a V-series device.
If price matters more than flagship specifications
Do not assume a cheaper model receives the flagship promise. The published material shows shorter V-series end dates and selective OPPO coverage, while OnePlus gives a minimum security commitment but not one uniform upgrade count for its entire range. A lower purchase price is sensible only after you know the remaining security period.
If you keep phones for work or banking
Prioritize a listed security end date and a cadence you can tolerate, then check whether your carrier receives releases promptly. Security support is the relevant minimum for protecting accounts; major Android upgrades are valuable but should not substitute for a missing patch commitment.
What rollout and regional pitfalls can shorten secure ownership?
Confusing a brand promise with a model promise
OPPO’s four-upgrade statement covers selected flagships, not every handset. vivo’s UK three-year statement covers all vivo smartphones in that policy, while its model page still differentiates cadence and dates. OnePlus’ three-year minimum and the OnePlus 13’s 2031 date are model evidence, not a guarantee for every OnePlus release.
Using a foreign policy page
A UK statement may not describe an Indian, European or North American variant. Firmware approval, operator testing and model availability can differ by country. Match the policy’s region to the place where the phone will receive updates.
Treating a cadence label as a delivery deadline
Monthly, quarterly and regular describe intended frequency categories, not an exact day. Staged rollouts and operator approval can move the arrival date. If you need a patch immediately for a workplace requirement, ask the carrier which release channel it supports.

Assuming an OS name determines support length
ColorOS and OxygenOS identify the interface and platform branch; they do not replace the model’s security end date. OnePlus’ transition notice specifically separates a possible interface change from the originally committed support period.
Ignoring the end date when buying used
A used phone does not receive extra support because it has a new owner. Base your decision on the published model date and the time left when you buy it. If the date is close, price the phone as a short-term device even if its hardware remains capable.
How can you turn a support promise into a buying decision?
Create a simple worksheet with one row per exact model and these columns: seller price, Android-upgrade count, security end date, cadence, region, carrier and OS-transition notes. Sort first by the security end date and regional eligibility, then by Android upgrades and price.
For a phone bought in 2026, a calendar date is more useful than a launch-year slogan. The OnePlus 13’s 07-Jan-2031 entry, for example, gives a fixed endpoint. OPPO’s five-year term requires you to identify the covered flagship and establish when its coverage began. vivo’s 2031–2032 examples require you to identify the exact X-series listing and confirm the local schedule.

When one has a longer date but an unavailable local variant, the longer promise is theoretical for your use. The winning phone is the one whose documented support applies to the device in your hand, not the most generous statement attached to the brand.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I keep using a phone after its security-support date?
The handset will usually continue to run apps and make calls, but the manufacturer is no longer promising fixes for newly discovered vulnerabilities. For banking, work accounts or sensitive data, treat the published end date as the point to plan a replacement rather than as a date when the hardware suddenly stops working.
Does buying later reset the support period?
No. Published end dates and durations are tied to the model’s support commitment, not to the day you purchase it. A later purchase leaves fewer supported months, so compare the remaining period with the price you will pay.
What does vivo’s “regular” patch category mean?
It identifies a recurring schedule without the monthly or quarterly label. The page does not turn “regular” into a fixed interval, so do not assume a specific number of weeks between patches; use the model’s regional listing for practical expectations.
Will a carrier delay an update even when the manufacturer has released it?
It can. The vivo policy specifically notes that operator cadence may differ by country, and staged approval is common for carrier firmware. If timing is critical, confirm the carrier’s release channel for the exact regional model instead of relying only on the manufacturer’s announcement.
