Start with Steam’s built-in file check: restart Steam and your computer, open Library, right-click Everlast: Undying Tale, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Steam compares the local installation with the expected files and replaces missing or damaged content when necessary. If that does not resolve the problem, clear Steam’s download cache, repair the library folder, check that the drive is writable, try another download region, or move the game to another Steam library. A Missing Executable message also requires checking antivirus quarantine or blocking. If Steam shows the game as uninstalled while its folder remains, add the existing library or start installation with that folder still present so Steam can rediscover it.
The sequence below moves from the least destructive game-level repair to broader Steam, storage, security, and network checks. It applies to the Steam installation of Everlast: Undying Tale; Steam’s own support procedures do not guarantee that any single step fixes every game-specific problem.

What does Steam’s file verification actually do?
Steam’s Verify integrity of game files command checks whether the files installed for a game match the files Steam expects. Steam describes it as a remedy for missing textures or other content, crashes, missing files, and certain installation problems. When the comparison finds a missing or damaged file, Steam can download a replacement.
Verification is narrower than reinstalling Steam or rebuilding a library. It examines Everlast’s installed game content rather than repairing the Steam client, your download service, the drive, or another program that may be blocking a file. That limited scope is why it is the correct first repair: it addresses corrupted or incomplete game data without immediately removing the whole installation.

Steam may report that one or more files failed to verify even after the process has done what it can. Steam notes that local configuration files are not intended to be replaced, so a small number of failed entries can be normal. Do not treat that message alone as proof that the installation is unusable.
Official procedure: Steam Support’s Verify Integrity of Game Files guide.
What should I do before verifying Everlast?
Prepare the client and the computer so Steam has exclusive access to the installation and can write replacement files.
- Exit Everlast: Undying Tale and any launcher window associated with it.
- Restart Steam, then restart the computer if the client or operating system has been running through repeated crashes or failed updates.
- Pause other downloads, disk-intensive scans, defragmentation jobs, and large file copies. Steam advises not to run verification while defragmenting the drive or performing another system-intensive scan.
- Make sure the drive containing the Steam library is connected and has normal read/write access. An external drive that is asleep, disconnected, or mounted with restricted permissions can make a healthy game appear broken.
- Keep the Steam client open for the entire check. Interrupting it can leave a download or repair incomplete.
Verification works on the installed game files. Avoid deleting the game folder, Steam library metadata, or userdata as a first step; those actions expand the problem from a file check into a recovery job.
How do I verify Everlast: Undying Tale files on Steam?
Use the current Steam desktop-client path below. The check can take longer on a large or slow drive, so let the progress operation finish before launching the game.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Find Everlast: Undying Tale in the game list.
- Right-click the game’s entry and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files in the Properties sidebar.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait until Steam reports that the process is complete. If Steam downloads replacement data, allow that download to finish before trying to play.
- Close and reopen Steam, then launch Everlast once. This restart gives the client a clean chance to load any files it just replaced.
If the game now starts, no further repair is needed. If the same crash, missing content, or launch error returns, use the symptom-specific branches below rather than repeatedly clicking verification without changing the underlying condition.

What if Steam says files failed to verify?
A few failed entries do not automatically mean the repair failed. Steam says local configuration files may intentionally remain outside the replacement process, so those entries can appear every time you verify.

When the result is probably normal
If Steam finishes, downloads any needed content, and Everlast launches normally, leave the remaining local configuration entries alone. Repeating verification will not turn a user-specific configuration file into a standard game asset.
When the result points to a continuing problem
Take further action when the same substantial files are downloaded on every check, the game still reports missing content, or the process stops with a disk or download error. Those patterns suggest that Steam cannot permanently write the replacement, the download is incomplete, or another program is removing or blocking the file.
Before running verification again, stop defragmentation and intensive scans, check available storage, and continue with the download-cache and library repairs in the next section.
How do I repair a failed update or Steam library?
When verification alone does not hold, broaden the repair to Steam’s download and library layers. These steps address incomplete updates, a damaged library-folder registration, or a folder Steam cannot write to.
- Clear the download cache. In Steam, open Steam > Settings > Downloads, choose Clear Download Cache, and confirm. Steam will restart or ask you to sign in again. Clearing the cache removes temporary download data; it does not replace the game’s installed files by itself.
- Repair the library folder. Open Steam’s Settings, go to Storage, select the library that contains Everlast, open its options menu, and choose the available Repair Folder command. Let Steam complete the repair before starting another update.
- Check write access. Confirm that the library drive is online, not full, and not reporting file-system errors. If the library is on removable storage, reconnect it directly and confirm that its drive letter or mount point has not changed.
- Try another download region. In Steam > Settings > Downloads, select a different nearby download region, restart Steam if prompted, and retry the update. A region change is useful when a download repeatedly stalls or fails; it does not repair already damaged local files, so verify again after a successful download.
- Move the game to another Steam library. In the game’s Properties, use the installed-files storage option to move Everlast to another library on a healthy drive. Moving changes the storage location without requiring you to immediately remove the existing installation. If Steam cannot complete the move, treat that as evidence of a library, drive, or permissions problem rather than repeatedly forcing the transfer.
Steam documents these measures in its Update & Installation Issues guidance. The page also lists storage, network, firewall, driver, overclocking, and memory problems as possible contributors when installation repairs continue to fail.
How do I fix “Failed to Start Game (Missing Executable)”?
Steam uses this error when a required game file is missing or another program is blocking it. The two leading explanations Steam identifies are an incomplete or corrupted download and antivirus interference.
Check security software first
Open the quarantine, protection history, or detection log in your antivirus or endpoint-security product and look for an entry made when Everlast updated or launched. If a game executable or DLL was quarantined, follow the security product’s documented restore process only when you trust the file and the installation source. Add a narrowly scoped exception for the game folder only if your security policy allows it; do not blindly disable protection.

Repair the missing file
After handling a legitimate quarantine entry, return to Library > Everlast: Undying Tale > Properties > Installed Files and run Verify integrity of game files. Steam can redownload a file that failed to arrive or was damaged. If the executable disappears again after verification, the security log or another blocking program is more important than another verification cycle.
Escalate if the file remains blocked
Record the exact error text, the name of any quarantined file, and whether verification completed. If the error remains after verification and the security product is not responsible, use Steam Support’s Failed to Start Game (Missing Executable) guidance and provide those details.
What if Steam says Everlast is uninstalled even though its folder is still there?
That state usually means Steam has lost the library registration or the folder is no longer attached to the library location the client knows about. Do not delete the surviving game folder before trying to reconnect it.
Reconnect the existing library
- Open Steam’s Settings > Storage page.
- Use the library-management control to add or select the drive and folder that already contains the Steam library.
- Return to Library and check whether Everlast is recognized as installed.
Start installation with the folder in place
If the library is correct but the game still appears uninstalled, click Install for Everlast and choose the library where the existing folder resides. Starting the installation while the folder remains present gives Steam an opportunity to discover and validate existing files instead of beginning with an empty destination. Let Steam inspect the folder; if it cannot recognize the content, the remaining supported route is a normal reinstall.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSteam’s instructions for this situation are in Steam Support’s game-installation recovery guide. The correct library path matters: adding a parent folder that is not the actual Steam Library location can leave the game hidden even though the files are on the drive.
Should I reinstall Steam itself?
Reinstalling the Steam client is a later step, not a substitute for verifying Everlast. Steam documents reinstalling the client over the existing installation when client files may be damaged, but warns against uninstalling Steam through another method because game and userdata content can be deleted.
Use an in-place client repair
Download the current Steam installer from Steam’s official service and run it against the existing Steam installation when Steam’s own client files appear damaged. Follow the installer’s repair or overwrite path and keep the existing library locations selected. The objective is to replace client components while retaining the installation and its registered libraries.

Avoid destructive cleanup
Do not remove the Steam directory, delete userdata, or use a third-party uninstaller as a first response to an Everlast launch problem. Those actions can destroy local content that a verification or library repair could have recovered. If the client cannot be repaired safely, contact Steam Support before deleting anything you may need.
For the client-installation warning and supported sequence, see Steam’s Steam client installation guidance.
Which repair should I try for my symptom?
The table puts the least destructive, narrowest action first and identifies when the problem has moved beyond Everlast’s files.
| Symptom | First action | Scope | What to check next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Missing textures, content, crashes, or a failed launch with no specific cause | Verify integrity of game files | Everlast’s installed files | Clear cache and repair the library if the result does not hold |
| Update repeatedly fails or stalls | Clear Download Cache | Steam’s temporary download data | Repair the library, confirm write access, and change download region |
| Steam cannot update or write to the library | Repair the library folder in Storage | Library registration and folder access | Check the drive, free space, permissions, and file-system health |
| “Failed to Start Game (Missing Executable)” | Inspect antivirus quarantine, then verify files | Security blocking plus game files | Use Steam Support if the executable remains missing |
| Game marked uninstalled while its folder remains | Add the correct library or start installation with the folder present | Steam’s library registration | Reinstall only if Steam cannot rediscover the files |
| Several games or Steam functions fail | Repair the Steam client over the existing installation | Steam client files | Check storage, network, firewall, drivers, memory, and overclocking |
What external problems can keep the repair from working?
If the same failure affects more than Everlast, or Steam cannot keep replacement files on disk, investigate the surrounding system instead of treating the game folder as the only suspect.
- Storage drive: intermittent disconnects, file-system errors, failing sectors, a full volume, or a changed mount point can interrupt verification and updates.
- Network: an unstable connection can leave downloads incomplete. A different Steam download region can separate a regional content-delivery problem from a local installation problem.
- Firewall or security controls: a firewall, endpoint policy, or antivirus rule can block Steam or remove a file immediately after it is downloaded.
- Drivers: outdated or malfunctioning device drivers can contribute to system instability that looks like a game crash. Update them through the hardware or operating-system vendor’s supported channel rather than using an unverified optimizer.
- Overclocking and memory: unstable CPU, GPU, or memory settings can cause repeated crashes or corrupted downloads. Return the system to stable, supported settings while troubleshooting.
These checks are especially important when verification repeatedly redownloads the same content, when multiple games show missing files, or when Steam reports disk-write errors.
When should I contact Steam Support?
Contact Steam Support after verification, cache clearing, library repair, and the relevant security or library-registration check have failed, or sooner if the client is at risk of deleting content. Include the exact Steam error, the point at which the process stops, the library drive, and whether antivirus quarantine or a download-region change altered the behavior.
For a missing executable, include the filename shown by the security log or error message. For an “uninstalled” state, state the library path Steam displays and whether starting installation with the existing folder present caused Steam to discover any files. Precise details help Support distinguish a game-file mismatch from a client, drive, network, or security problem.

Do not uninstall Steam through an unrelated cleanup method while waiting for a response. Steam warns that the wrong uninstall route can remove game and userdata content, turning a repairable registration problem into data loss.
How do I avoid making the problem worse?
- Use Steam’s own verification and library tools before deleting folders.
- Do not run verification during defragmentation or another intensive disk scan.
- Do not repeatedly change settings without noting the result; record which step changed the error.
- Inspect antivirus history before disabling protection or adding broad exclusions.
- Keep the existing game folder in place when trying to recover an installation Steam labels uninstalled.
- Do not uninstall the Steam client through a method that can remove game or userdata content.
For most Everlast installation failures, the safe path is therefore: verify the game, repair Steam’s download and library layers, investigate security blocking, reconnect an existing library when necessary, and only then consider an in-place Steam client repair or a reinstall.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Steam still list a few files as failed after verification?
Steam says local configuration files are not intended to be replaced, so a small number of failed entries can be expected. Judge the result by whether the game launches and whether substantial files are downloaded again, not by the count alone.
Will verifying Everlast reset my graphics or control settings?
Verification targets the installed game content. Steam specifically notes that local configuration files may be excluded from replacement, so settings stored locally can remain; keep a separate backup if a particular configuration is important to you.
What should I record before opening a Steam Support ticket?
Copy the exact error text, note whether verification completed, identify any quarantined executable or DLL, and record the library drive and folder. Also list whether clearing the cache, repairing the library, or changing the download region changed the behavior.
Is it safe to delete the Everlast folder when Steam calls it uninstalled?
Not as a first step. Reconnect the correct Steam Library in Storage or start installation with the existing folder still present so Steam can attempt to recognize it; delete and reinstall only after that recovery path fails.
