Life360 labels a home location through its Places feature, which uses saved addresses and geofenced areas to show when Circle members arrive at or leave spots. If the app is showing the wrong home, it usually means the saved Place needs editing, the map pin or address is slightly off, or your phone’s location settings are limiting accuracy.

Changing your home location is usually handled by updating the Home Place in the Life360 app, adjusting the address or radius, or deleting and recreating the Place if it no longer matches where you live. Before making changes, it helps to confirm that location permissions, precise location, Wi-Fi, and GPS are working properly so the app can detect your position correctly.

After you update Home, Circle members may see the new Place name, arrivals, departures, and location-based alerts depending on the Circle’s settings and their notification preferences. A correct Home Place makes Life360’s map, alerts, and location history easier to understand for everyone in the Circle.

How Life360 Uses Places to Mark Your Home Location

Life360 does not automatically know that a location is “home” in the same way a maps app might infer it from your routine. Instead, it uses a feature called Places. A Place is a saved location with a name, address, and geofence around it. When a Circle member’s phone enters or leaves that geofenced area, Life360 can show arrival and departure activity such as “Arrived at Home” or “Left Home,” depending on the Circle’s settings and notification preferences.

Your home location is usually just a Place named Home. It may have been created when the Circle was first set up, added manually by a Circle member, or suggested from a frequently visited address. The app displays that label on the map and in location history when the phone’s GPS position falls inside the Place boundary. If the pin is slightly off, the address is incomplete, or the geofence radius is too small, Life360 may show someone as near home but not actually “at Home.”

What a Life360 Place includes

  • Name: A label such as Home, School, Work, or Grandma’s House.
  • Address or map pin: The physical location Life360 uses as the center of the Place.
  • Radius: The circular area around the pin that counts as being at that Place.
  • Circle visibility: The Place is tied to a Circle, so members of that Circle can generally see the Place name and related arrivals or departures.
  • Notifications: Circle members can enable or disable alerts when someone enters or leaves the Place.

Life360 determines whether you are at Home by comparing your phone’s current location with the saved Place boundary. That location comes from your device’s GPS, Wi-Fi positioning, cellular data, and operating system location services. For the app to update accurately, Life360 needs permission to access location in the background, and the phone must have enough signal, battery, and connectivity to report its position. If permissions are restricted to “While Using the App,” or if battery-saving settings limit background activity, the Home status can lag or appear incorrect.

It is also useful to separate your current location from your Home Place. Your current location is the live or recently updated position of your phone on the map. Your Home Place is the saved address and geofence that Life360 uses as a label. Changing where your phone appears on the map is not the same as changing Home; to update Home, you need to edit the Place itself, move its pin, adjust the address, or change the geofence radius so the saved area matches the real property more closely.

How to Change Your Home Location in the Life360 App

To change your home location in Life360, you usually need to update the Home Place saved in your Circle. A Place is a named area on the map, such as Home, Work, School, or Gym. When a member enters or leaves that area, Life360 can display the Place name and send arrival or departure alerts, depending on your Circle’s settings and plan.

The exact wording can vary slightly between iPhone and Android, but the process is similar. Make sure you are signed in to the correct Life360 account and viewing the Circle where the Home Place needs to be changed. If you belong to mulle Circles, such as Family and Friends, each Circle can have its own Places.

  1. Open the Life360 app on your phone.
  2. Select the correct Circle at the top of the screen if you use more than one.
  3. Tap Places, or open the map menu and choose Places.
  4. Find and tap Home.
  5. Choose Edit or the pencil icon.
  6. Enter the new address in the search field, or drag the map pin to the correct location.
  7. Adjust the Place radius so it covers your home and normal driveway, apartment entrance, or parking area.
  8. Tap Save to apply the change.

If the app cannot find the address you type, try using a nearby landmark, street intersection, or manually moving the pin on the map. For apartments, condos, rural properties, and new developments, the address database may not place the pin exactly where you expect. In that case, zoom in and set the pin on the actual building, driveway, or main entrance rather than relying only on the typed address.

Set the Place radius carefully

The radius controls how large the Home area is. If the radius is too small, Life360 may show someone as leaving Home while they are still in the garage, yard, elevator, or parking lot. If it is too large, the app may mark them as Home while they are still down the street. A moderate radius usually works best, especially in neighborhoods with close houses or apartment buildings.

  • Small radius: Better for dense neighborhoods, but more likely to trigger false departures.
  • Larger radius: Better for rural homes, long driveways, and weak GPS areas, but less precise.
  • Apartment buildings: Place the pin on the building entrance or central part of the complex.
  • New addresses: Use the map pin if the typed address points to the wrong lot or street.

After saving the new Home Place, give Life360 a little time to refresh across your Circle. Members may need to close and reopen the app before the updated Place name appears consistently. Anyone in the Circle who can view Places may see the new Home area, and arrival or departure alerts tied to Home may use the updated location going forward.

How to Edit or Delete an Existing Home Place

If your Circle already has a Home Place but it points to the wrong house, has the wrong name, or covers too large an area, you do not need to create a new Place from scratch. You can edit the existing Home Place so Life360 uses the corrected address, pin position, and geofence size. This is usually the best option when you recently moved, the map pin is slightly off, or Life360 is sending arrival and departure alerts at the wrong time.

To edit Home, open the Life360 app and go to the Places section for the Circle you want to update. Select Home, then choose the edit option, usually shown as a pencil icon or an Edit Place button. From there, you can change the Place name, update the address, drag or reposition the map pin, and adjust the radius around the location. Make sure the pin sits on the actual home building or driveway area rather than the center of the street, especially in apartment complexes, rural areas, or neighborhoods where addresses map imprecisely.

What you can change in an existing Home Place

  • Name: Rename the Place from “Home” to something more specific, such as “Mom’s House,” “Apartment,” or “Main Home.”
  • Address: Enter the correct street address if Life360 selected a nearby location or old residence.
  • Map pin: Move the pin manually if the typed address does not land in the right spot.
  • Radius: Increase or decrease the geofence area so arrivals and departures trigger more reliably.
  • Alerts: Depending on your settings and plan, adjust which Circle members receive notifications for arrivals or departures.

After editing the Home Place, save your changes and give the app a short time to refresh. Circle members may need to close and reopen Life360 before the updated Place appears consistently on their map. If someone is currently near the old or new Home location, arrival and departure alerts may not update until their phone reports a fresh location change. For the cleanest result, edit the Place while the relevant phones have a stable internet connection and location permissions enabled.

If you no longer want Life360 to use a Home Place at all, you can delete it from the same Places area. Open Places, select Home, choose the edit or settings option, and look for Delete Place or a trash icon. Confirm the deletion when prompted. Once deleted, Life360 should stop labeling that spot as Home and stop sending Home-based Place alerts for that Circle. This does not remove anyone from the Circle, erase location history that has already been recorded, or turn off live location sharing; it only removes that saved Place and its related alerts.

Before deleting Home, check whether other Circle members rely on that Place for notifications, such as knowing when a child arrives from school or when a family member leaves for work. In shared Circles, changes to Places can affect everyone who uses that Circle’s map. If you delete the wrong Home Place, you can recreate it by adding a new Place and naming it Home again, but you may need to reconfigure the address, radius, and alert preferences manually.

How to Improve Location Accuracy Before Updating Home

Before changing your Home Place in Life360, it helps to make sure the phone is reporting the most accurate location possible. Life360 uses your device’s GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular signal, motion data, and operating system permissions to estimate where you are. If those inputs are weak or restricted, the app may place your home pin slightly down the street, at a neighbor’s house, or in a broad area instead of at your actual address.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Start by checking location permissions on the phone you use with Life360. On iPhone, open Settings, select Life360, tap Location, and choose Always. Turn on Precise Location if it is available. On Android, open Settings, go to Apps, select Life360, then open Permissions and allow location access. For best results, choose an option such as Allow all the time and enable precise or high-accuracy location if your device offers it.

Quick checks before moving the Home pin

  • Turn on Wi-Fi: Even if you are not connected to your home network, nearby Wi-Fi signals can help your phone calculate a more precise position indoors.
  • Disable Low Power Mode or Battery Saver: Power-saving settings can reduce background location updates and make Life360 slower to refresh your exact position.
  • Open Life360 while at home: Stand near the center of the home or driveway, open the app, and wait for your location dot to settle before editing the Place.
  • Check cellular and GPS signal: If you are in a basement, elevator, garage, or dense building, step outside or near a window for a cleaner reading.
  • Update the app: Install the latest version of Life360 from the App Store or Google Play, since older versions may handle location updates less reliably.

If the blue location dot is jumping around, wait a few minutes before saving a new Home location. A moving or drifting dot usually means the phone is still refining its position. You can also toggle Airplane Mode on and off, restart the phone, or briefly turn Location Services off and back on to force the device to refresh its connection to GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular networks.

Accuracy also depends on the size of the Home Place radius. A very small radius may cause Life360 to think you have left home when you are still inside, especially in apartment buildings, townhomes, or areas with weak GPS reception. When editing your Home Place, adjust the circle so it comfortably covers the house, driveway, garage, and normal entry points without extending too far into nearby streets or other homes. This makes arrival and departure alerts more reliable for everyone in the Circle.

What Circle Members See After You Change Home Location

After you change the Home Place in Life360, Circle members will generally see the updated label on the map once the app syncs the change. The Home name stays familiar, but the geofence—the area Life360 uses to decide whether someone is “at Home” or has “left Home”—moves to the new address or adjusted pin location. If the new Home Place is saved correctly, members in the same Circle may start seeing arrival and departure activity tied to that new location instead of the old one.

What other people see depends on their role in the Circle, their app version, and notification settings. A member viewing the map may see your avatar near the updated Home label if you are physically there and your phone is reporting location normally. If they have Place Alerts enabled for Home, they may receive notifications when you arrive at or leave the new Home area. If alerts are turned off, they can still usually see the Place label on the map, but they will not receive push notifications for your movement in and out of that zone.

Changes Circle members may notice

  • The Home label may move: The saved Home Place appears at the new address, apartment complex, house, or manually adjusted map pin.
  • Arrival and departure alerts may change: Members with Home alerts enabled may get alerts based on the new geofence, not the old one.
  • Location history may show the new Place name: Future visits can appear as Home in location history once the updated Place is active.
  • The old Home may stop triggering alerts: If you edited the existing Home Place, the previous address should no longer count as Home.
  • There may be a short delay: Some phones may not reflect the update instantly, especially if the app is running in the background or the connection is weak.

Changing the Home Place does not hide your live location from Circle members by itself. If your location sharing is turned on, members can still see where your phone is on the map, even while Life360 is updating the saved Place label. If you are trying to correct an incorrect Home marker, the goal is to make the label and alerts match your real address more accurately, not to change how location sharing works across the Circle.

Permissions also affect what members see after the update. If your phone has Location access set to something limited, such as “While Using the App,” Life360 may update less reliably when the app is closed. If Precise Location is turned off, the app may place you near the Home area but not always inside the correct geofence. For the cleanest result, keep Life360 allowed to use location in the background, enable precise location, and make sure cellular data or Wi-Fi is available when you arrive at the new Home location.

If several people in the Circle use the same Home Place, it is a good idea to let them know after you edit it. This helps avoid confusion if someone suddenly receives an arrival alert at the corrected address or stops receiving alerts from the previous one. In shared households, one person updating the Home Place can affect how the Circle interprets everyone’s visits to that location, especially when the Place is used for family routines, school pickups, caregiving, or safety check-ins.

Troubleshooting When Life360 Still Shows the Wrong Home

If Life360 still shows the wrong home after you edit the Home Place, the issue is usually caused by an old Place boundary, weak GPS data, app permissions, or a delay in the map refreshing. Start by confirming that you changed the correct Place in the correct Circle. Places are Circle-specific, so editing “Home” in one Circle does not automatically update it in another. If you are part of mulle Circles, switch between them and check whether each one has its own Home Place saved.

Check the Home Place location and radius

Open the Places section and review the Home Place on the map. The pin should sit directly over your actual home, not just near the street, apartment complex entrance, or neighboring building. If the pin is slightly off, drag it to the correct spot or re-enter the address and select the most accurate search result. For apartments, townhomes, rural properties, and homes on new roads, Life360 may rely on map data that places the address at a general location rather than your exact door.

Also check the Place radius. If the radius is too large, Life360 may mark someone as “Home” while they are nearby but not actually at the house. If it is too small, the app may fail to recognize the arrival because normal GPS drift places the phone just outside the boundary. A moderate radius often works better than the smallest possible setting, especially in dense neighborhoods or buildings with poor signal.

Refresh the app and phone location data

  • Close and reopen Life360: Fully quit the app, then open it again to force a fresh map update.
  • Restart the phone: This can clear temporary GPS, network, or background refresh issues.
  • Check location permissions: Life360 should have location access set to “Always” on iPhone or “Allow all the time” on Android for reliable Place alerts.
  • Enable precise location: On iPhone, turn on Precise Location for Life360. On Android, allow high accuracy location services.
  • Keep Wi-Fi and mobile data on: Even if you are not connected to Wi-Fi, nearby networks can help the phone estimate location more accurately.
  • Update Life360: Install the latest app version, since map and Place behavior can change after updates.

If the wrong Home label appears only for one person, troubleshoot that member’s phone rather than the Place itself. Their device may have battery saver enabled, background app refresh disabled, poor signal, or limited permissions. On iPhone, check Settings for Life360 location access, Background App Refresh, Low Power Mode, and Precise Location. On Android, review location permission, battery optimization, data saver, and any manufacturer-specific battery restrictions that may stop Life360 from updating in the background.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Delete and recreate the Home Place if needed

When edits do not seem to apply, deleting the existing Home Place and creating a new one can clear a stuck or poorly mapped location. Before deleting it, make sure you know the address and desired radius. After recreating the Place, ask Circle members to open Life360 so their apps can refresh the latest Circle data. Arrival and departure notifications may not correct instantly if a member is already inside the boundary, so test again after they leave and return.

For persistent errors, compare Life360’s map with Apple Maps or Google Maps. If the address itself is mapped incorrectly across services, the problem may come from the underlying map database rather than Life360 settings. In that case, use the map pin placement instead of relying only on the typed address. If Life360 continues showing the wrong Home after permissions, radius, app updates, and pin placement have been checked, contact Life360 support with the Circle name, the affected Place, the device model, and screenshots of the incorrect location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my Home location in Life360 without moving my phone there?

Yes. You can edit the Home Place in the Life360 app and update the address or move the map pin manually. For the best result, zoom in on the map and place the pin directly on your home, then adjust the radius so Life360 does not mark nearby streets or buildings as Home.

Will my Circle members be notified when I change the Home Place?

Circle members may see the updated Home label on the map once the Place is changed, but Life360 does not always send a separate alert just because you edited the address. If Place alerts are enabled, members may still receive arrival or departure notifications based on the new Home location. Anyone in the Circle who can view Places can usually see the updated Home area.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I do if Life360 keeps showing my old home address?

First, open Places and make sure there is not an old Home Place still saved. Edit or delete the outdated Place, then force close and reopen the app. If it still appears wrong, check that location permission is set to always allow, precise location is enabled, and your phone has a strong GPS, Wi-Fi, or mobile data connection.

How large should the Home radius be in Life360?

The Home radius should be large enough to cover your house and normal GPS drift, but not so large that it includes nearby roads, neighbors, or other buildings. A smaller radius is more precise, but it can cause false arrival or departure alerts if your phone’s location signal is weak. If alerts are unreliable, slightly increase the radius and test it over a day or two.

Can I delete Home in Life360 and create a new one?

Yes. You can delete the existing Home Place from the Places section, then add a new Place with the correct address or map pin. This is often easier than editing if the old pin is far away or tied to the wrong address. After creating it, check the name, radius, and alert settings for each Circle member.

Bottom Line

Changing your home location in Life360 usually comes down to updating your Home Place, correcting the address or map pin, and making sure location permissions and accuracy settings are enabled on your phone. Once saved, Circle members may see the updated Place name, alerts, and location activity based on your Circle’s settings.

If Life360 still shows the wrong home location, check GPS accuracy, Wi-Fi or cellular signal, app updates, and whether another Circle member has edited the Place. Your next step is to open Places in the app, verify the Home pin and radius, then test it by leaving and returning to the location.
