Short answer: You cannot replace Apple Music’s underlying app icon everywhere with one universal setting. On an iPhone, you can create a Home Screen shortcut that opens Apple Music and use a photo from your library as that shortcut’s icon. You can also apply iOS-wide Home Screen treatments such as Dark, Clear, or Tinted, but those affect many icons rather than Apple Music alone. How do I put a custom photo on the Apple Music icon on iPhone?
Use Apple’s Shortcuts app to make a launcher shortcut for Apple Music. The photo becomes the shortcut’s Home Screen icon; it does not become Apple Music’s native app asset.

1. Create or select a shortcut that opens Apple Music
- Open Shortcuts and create a new shortcut, or select an existing shortcut you want to use.
- Add an action that opens Apple Music if that action is offered on your iPhone. Apple’s Shortcuts guidance supports customizing a shortcut’s appearance, but the exact Apple Music action and menu wording can vary by iOS version and device.
- Give the shortcut a clear name, such as “Music,” so you can identify it later in Shortcuts.
2. Add it to the Home Screen
- Open the shortcut’s details or sharing controls and choose the Add to Home Screen flow. Apple can change the location of this control between software releases.
- Tap the small icon shown beside the shortcut name. Choose the option to select a photo from your library.
- Pick the image you want to use, adjust the crop if the interface offers one, and confirm the shortcut name.
- Tap Add. A new tile appears on the Home Screen.
3. Test the shortcut before removing anything
Tap the new tile once and confirm that it opens Apple Music. Keep the original Apple Music app available until you have verified that the shortcut points to the intended action. The shortcut and the app are separate Home Screen items, so creating the shortcut does not delete or alter the installed app.
What the photo shortcut does not change
The custom image is associated with the shortcut launcher. It does not establish a replacement for Apple Music’s icon in Settings, the App Library, search results, notifications, or other system surfaces. If you open Apple Music from another location, iOS can still show the standard app asset.

Can I change all iPhone icons without making an Apple Music shortcut?
Yes. iPhone’s Home Screen customization controls can apply a general visual treatment to app icons and widgets, but they do not provide an Apple Music-only photo replacement.
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons begin to move.
- Tap Edit, then choose Customize.
- Choose the appearance you want, such as Dark, Clear, or Tinted. Depending on the iOS release, you may also see controls for icon size or related Home Screen styling.
- Tap outside the customization panel or follow the on-screen confirmation to save.
These controls change how Home Screen app icons and widgets look as a group. They are useful when you want Apple Music to fit a dark, translucent, or colored layout, but they cannot assign a different personal photograph to only Apple Music.
How do I change the Apple Music icon on a Samsung Galaxy phone?
Samsung’s documented route is Galaxy Themes. It applies an icon set rather than a single photo chosen for Apple Music, and the available coverage depends on the model, software, and carrier.

- Select an icon set, download it if required, and tap Apply.
Samsung requires a Samsung account for Galaxy Themes. Samsung also warns that the menus and behavior can vary by model, software version, and carrier. An icon set may not include a replacement for every installed app, so Apple Music can retain its existing appearance even after a theme is applied.

Samsung’s support guide states: “You cannot use your own images as icons.” In context, that warning applies to the Galaxy Themes icon-set workflow. It means this method is not a way to upload a personal album cover or photograph as an individual Apple Music icon.
What can I do on a Google Pixel?
Pixel support documents adding apps and app-provided shortcuts to the Home Screen, changing Home Screen layout, and adjusting icon size. It does not document replacing one app icon with an arbitrary photo.
- Open the app drawer and locate Apple Music.
- Touch and hold the app, then drag it to the Home Screen, or use the app’s available shortcut options if shown.
- Touch and hold an empty Home Screen area to open layout and related customization controls.
- Use the documented icon-size or layout settings if you want to change the overall arrangement.
If your Pixel has a third-party launcher or a software release with additional icon controls, those features come from that launcher rather than from a universal Android procedure. Check the launcher’s own settings before assuming a custom-photo option exists.
What about other Android phones and launchers?
Android does not guarantee one identical Home Screen experience. Android Developers notes that manufacturers can create their own launcher experience, so menu names and icon capabilities differ among phones.

- Open the phone’s Home Screen settings, launcher settings, or theme store and look for Icons, Icon style, Themes, or Shortcuts.
- Read the option’s description to determine whether it applies a complete icon pack, edits one shortcut, or only changes size and layout.
- Check whether the feature requires an account, a download, a compatible launcher, or a particular software version.
- If no custom-image control is listed, do not assume that an image can be assigned to Apple Music. The manufacturer or launcher may support only predefined icon sets.
Google’s general Android help explains how to add an app or an app-provided shortcut to the Home Screen, but it does not define a universal custom-image method. A procedure that works on one Android brand can therefore be unavailable on another.
What is the difference between a shortcut, a theme, and the real app icon?
Shortcut icon
An iPhone Shortcuts tile is a separate launcher object. Its photo is a visual label for the shortcut, while the action behind it opens Apple Music. You can create several shortcuts with different images without creating several copies of the app.
Theme icon set
A manufacturer theme supplies a finite collection of designed icons. The launcher applies those assets wherever the set supports the corresponding apps. It may leave unsupported apps unchanged, and it is not the same as importing a personal photograph for one app.
Native app asset
The native Apple Music icon is part of the app’s distributed branding and build. A Home Screen shortcut or theme does not rewrite that underlying asset. Apple’s developer guidance treats an app icon as an asset delivered through the app build and App Store workflow.
Apple Music branding
Apple Music’s identity guidance says: “Do not create your own icon. Only the versions shown here are approved.” That guidance concerns official Apple Music brand assets. A personal shortcut image is a Home Screen customization, not an official replacement or an indication that Apple approved the image.

Why does my custom icon not appear everywhere?
Because the iPhone method changes only the shortcut tile. iOS still knows Apple Music as the installed app, with its own asset and app record. Opening the app from App Library, Settings, search, or another system surface can therefore show the standard Apple Music icon.
On Android, a theme can also have partial coverage. If the selected set lacks an Apple Music asset, the launcher may retain the existing icon. This is normal theme behavior, not evidence that the installation failed.
How do I troubleshoot an icon change that did not work?
The iPhone shortcut opens the wrong destination
- Open Shortcuts and inspect the action attached to the tile.
- Replace the action with the Apple Music-opening action available on your device.
- Delete the incorrect Home Screen tile and add the corrected shortcut again.
The photo is cropped or looks blurry
- Choose a higher-resolution image with the subject centered.
- Crop the source image before selecting it in the Add to Home Screen flow.
- Remember that the Home Screen tile is small; high-contrast artwork usually remains more recognizable.
Samsung changed some icons but not Apple Music
- Check whether the selected icon set lists Apple Music among its supported apps.
- Confirm that the theme was downloaded and applied under the Samsung account signed in to the phone.
- Try another available set if the first one does not include the app.
The menu is missing
Verify the phone model, launcher, carrier configuration, and software version. Manufacturer documentation explicitly allows for variation, so a menu shown in one Galaxy or Android guide may not exist on another device.

No. A shortcut image, Home Screen appearance setting, or launcher theme changes how you launch or display the app; it does not migrate your Apple Music account, playlists, downloads, or playback settings. If the tile opens Apple Music normally, the app continues using the same installed data and account.

On Android, identify the phone and launcher first; there is no universal promise that an Apple Music photo icon can be created.
